This was my first trip there and it was amazing. Four of us had different dishes and they were all prepared to perfection. I always think I have to go to Pappadeaux, Perla’s or some other high end restaurant to get good seafood but that is not the case!!! Prices were incredible for the quality and portions so you will not leave underfed and over charged like I have been used to. I will definitely spend my seafood dining $$$‘s at Deckhand.

I have always had a pleasurable experience and good dishes here. This place opens up at 12pm on Sunday and there were already six people waiting outside when I pulled up to get their eat on! Man I was very hungry too! Our waitress was new and very sweet! She provided me a refill without me having to ask. That’s always a standard to me that most may miss. I noticed on the menu the La Frontera Oysters were designated as the local favorite so I ordered a half dozen. It has crab, bacon of course oyster and cheese. Yummy! Never go wrong with cheese and bacon! I have had the calamari salad before and the seafood papaya salad so today I ordered the crying boar salad and the calamari salad again. You can order the spice level. I love VERY spicy food so I went with a 3 out of 5 just in case. May need to increase the spice because it was not very spicy for me. You can order a side of sticky rice for $ 2.50. The crying boar was tasty and reminds me of a Thai beef salad(Larb) except this was pork strips. The calamari salad as expected was good and the noodles were delicious. It comes with the glass noodle, calamari, tomatoes, lettuce etc. So yummy and good! Worth the price! The food as always was good and on point. The food we ordered had an Asian influence on it as the owners are Asian and I was seeking out a nice salad. This is my go to if I am craving a seafood salad.

This is one of my favorite restaurants! I usually order the Deckhand Soup because it is amazingly delicious! I hoary can’t get enough of it. It’s almost like a seafood phở, spicy and delicious with vermicelli noodles. But honestly I’ve never had a bad meal here. They have the best oysters on a half shell I’ve ever had anywhere. But other suggestions would be the mango salad and even the spring rolls with peanut sauce is amazing. I also love the servers. Very casual environment with great service. And they have 32 oz draft beer. I would eat here every day if I could!

Oysters are to die for! Obviously. There shrimp Diablo has an addicting spice to it that makes you want more. There boudin is delish as well, ordering is a must. The La Frontera oysters are surprisingly good. The cheese gives it a unique flavor. Great environment. Looking forward to having there crawfish soon!

I would have given this place 3 stars but I cannot due to the fact that my husband got food poisoning shortly after we ate there from one of the Beachcomber Specials. It’s truly a shame because the oysters were absolutely delicious and soooo fresh! Just as good as Pappadeaux and the Tom Yum Seafood Soup was great. We will not be returning back though due to the fact that my husband got so violently ill.

I’ve visited several times and have enjoyed every dish I’ve tried. My friend loves the oysters. The offerings of fresh seafood and Thai food make this oyster bar unique.

Amazing food! I’m addicted. I need to stop coming here. This is totally my comfort food. Highly recommend the Thai Papaya Salad, one of the most authentic in town(I’m Thai). Order it with sticky rice. It’s delicious, surprisingly my American friends also like it. The spicy level 1 – 20 that they ask is tricky. It’s actually means how many Thai peppers do you want in it. My spicy level is pretty high, but a 3 – 4 is already spicy. So be careful.(This has a lot of MSG though, but worth it!) Pandas Cake is amazing! It’s very authentic Thai cake, which is slightly different than American cake. It’s hard to find Thai cake in Austin. Try it! The house special sauce is the best. It’s on every table. Southwestern Oysters are my favorite. Raw oysters is also good. I wish they have multiple kinds of oysters. I also ventured into Fried Frog leg. I guess it’s well done, I never had it anywhere else, so I can’t compare. Texture was more slimy than chicken. Atmosphere is very loud, and usually it’s crowded. Sometimes hard to get waiter or hostess attention. I wish it was closer to Austin. But always worth the drive. Hidden gem.

We wanted Pappadeaux but it was packed. So found this little place using Unilocal and we were not disappointed. The Tom Yum soup was sooooooo good! Wish I’d gotten a bowl of it instead of a cup. The whole catfish was huge! It was perfectly cooked and the breaking was delicious! They were packed but the service was great from the hostess to the waiter! We will definitely hit them up next time we are in the area!

Why do I always forget that this gem is right around the corner from me? This place is a great place for some Cajun and Asian inspired seafood! In a recent visit with my husband I had a bowl of Gumbo and the La Frontera Oysters. Gumbo was great. Lots of seafood, sausage and rice. It’s a great hearty bowl of goodness. Now let me tell you about the La Frontera Oysters. It’s broiled oysters still in the half shells with crab meat stuffing, chopped bacon and Monterrey cheese. There’s also a sprinkle of lemon on top so there’s a nice acidic finish with all the richness of the cheese and saltiness of the oysters and bacon. I also love that the cheese made a nice crusty on top. This is a decadent taste of heaven in a shell. The flavors are all so full but complimentary of each other it’s perfect. My husband got the Deckhand Combo platter — three shrimp and one catfish filet. He got more than he bargained for because there was a few pieces of catfish on the plate. This is all he wants when he gets friend seafood is shrimp and fish. I tried one of the shrimp and it was tasty. Had a great crunch, the breading was just right and the shrimp was decent size. Our server was very nice and attentive. He checked on us often and gave us updates on food. I’ve been to this place a few times before with my parents and I always forget that it’s there. They have a variety of items on the menu Cajun and Asian and the place is always busy when we’re there. They also have plenty of TVs there if you want to catch a game while you enjoy delicious seafood.

This is the best seafood restaurant in the area. It beats any seafood chain by a large margin. The portions are huge, good beer specials, and the prices are just right. The secret deckhand sauce works on all their food.

The best Tom Yum soup I have ever had! I’m not the biggest fan of Tom Yum but my friend is and she let me try her’s…she had to keep me from eating the whole thing, it was delicious! The raw oysters here are pretty good as well and the sauce they give you to put on them is so good I thought long and hard about putting the sauce bottle in my purse… I didn’t though of course! Our service was excellent and they have great drink specials. Deckhand is definitely worth checking out.

I’ve had the grilled oysters as well as raw. All were great but my favorite and must have here is the seafood gumbo. It is the best I’ve had in Austin and much better than Quality’s… although that is also pretty good. Nice casual atmosphere.

We went on a Thursday night and they were so busy! Do we thought it was gonna be great, but it wasn’t anything special, the food overall was just ok. My husband was so disappointed and we definitely won’t return, we ordered shrimp spring rolls and those were flavorless, my husband ordered the shrimp platter and half dozen oysters. Nothing great. And honestly the best thing about it all was the sauce they give you with oysters and that’s it! Plus our server was great. We will not return, our bill was 50.00 we feel that’s too much for what we got.

This place is AWESOME! Fresh shucked oysters-right in front of you if you sit at the bar. I’ve eaten here several times-and the food and service is always outstanding. It’s hard for me to choose between the seafood gumbo or their seafood noodle soup-as both are amazing-with the right amount of heat! They only have beer or wine-but hey-the food is amazing, so who cares! One of my favorite restaurants!!!

The prices are unbelievable. Its amazing to find seafood for this cheap! Do not waste your time at the Red Lobster across the way. Bacon wrapped Boudin was phenomenal. Gumbo was decent and Garlic Shrimp were scrumptious and sufficiently garlic-y. The raw carrots on the dish are slightly weird, would be nice to have them cooked. We took the inlaws and they thoroughly enjoyed their stuffed catfish. Don’t be deceived by the photos– the platters are huge! I really want to try more things on this menu but there’s not a lot for my seafood averting husband to choose from. The Crying Tiger Beef was nice enough, but if only they could just find another dish or two to utilize that succulent beef in, for variety’s sake! The décor and layout are the only things here holding them back from being a legend– on one hand, it has that quaint small down dive feel, but on the other hand, the tables were nightmarishly crowded– the back of my chair touched the guy who was directly behind me and we kept bumping each other throughout the meal and even the waitress seemed exasperated. The service seemed a little short-handed too. But– if that’s what it takes to keep the prices down, maybe they’ve got a good thing going on!

Well, my hubby & I went here last night for dinner(my 1st time going). So cool, Unilocal gave it an average of 4-stars, so HELLYEAH we going. We got there a little after 7:30pm, nice crowd inside. It took about 10mins to seat us, not too bad. We got a booth, cool. Our waiter was good in the beginning, taking our drinks & appetizer order. We ordered a half dozen of their La Frontera oysters, and wow. It did not mention in the description about lemon, NOTHING! They were too tart-tangy for us to really enjoy, but I ate them. LOL Glad we only ordered ½ dozen. We normally get them raw on the halfshell, so much for trying something new. My hubs had the Combo Platter(2 fried catfish fillets; 3 fried shrimp; FFs; hushpuppies). Only the meat was HOT, not the side dishes. His food came out BEFORE mine, and all I had was the Seafood Noodle Soup(actually pretty good; VERYSPICY!). It took abt 15min after he got his, before I got mine. He was not happy abt that, since we like to eat together, or they bring our food out at the same time, so I nibbled off his plate till my soup came. All in all, the food was OK, hubs had to put salt on his fish for it to taste better, or seasoned. The bill was not bad at all, a lil over $ 51, we also had 4 beers, and two Shrimp Spring Rolls, NOWTHOSEWERETHEBESTFOODITEMS we had all night!!! LOL Hubs said he’s not going back, and well, I won’t be going back any time soon. 8.2.15

AMAZINGINCREDIBLEFRESHSEAFOOD. I wanted to go back there the very next day! The food was delicious. I have posted pics and I thought a review already but here it goes again! I dislike catfish immensely and don’t touch the stuff. Theirs didn’t taste like catfish and I actually took a second bite! My blackened flounder was amazingly fresh and flavorful, my father in law’s thai seafood stirfry curry was brimming with seafood and he enjoyed it very much and my husband really loved his seafood platter(half fried half blackened). They have this sauce in a squirt bottle that I would marry if I could. I wanted to smuggle it home under my coat.
