Ernie’s Lock

I needed a heavy duty combination lock and was quoted $ 50.00 per lock. OUCH!!! I bought the same exact locks on
for $ 21.47 each. This company is way over priced and the counter guy isn’t pleasant to deal with.

We live in the house my husband grew up in. His father used Ernie’s and when my husband first moved back into the house, he started using them as well. In the eight years I’ve been living there, we’ve used Ernie’s on many occasions — new keys, new locks, buying and installing a safe. I couldn’t recommend them more. They are reliable, prompt, and polite… even when hauling a 300-​pound safe up a flight of stairs.
I could only surmise that the negative reviews here are the result of the old bait and switch routine pulled by some other locksmiths. I was at work one day and didn’t have the number with me. I googled for Ernie’s and, not paying attention fully (obviously), clicked on a look-​alike ad. They answered the phone «Locksmiths» and I asked «Is this Ernie’s in Riverdale» and the guy said yes. I made arrangements for him to come out to the house to give some advice on how to secure a generator. The guy was surly and not very helpful. He suggested we buy a huge chain. I told him I would think about it and would call him if we decided to go that way. Something just didn’t seem right, so I looked again for Ernie’s number and realized I had been duped into calling someone else. Once I called the real Ernie’s I got the same amazing advice and service that we’ve always gotten. As an aside, the phony locksmith called me back and wanted to charge me $ 200 for coming out to the house and for special ordering the big chain. After telling him that I didn’t ask him to order the chain, he yelled at me and repeatedly called me back, demanding money. I finally blocked his number.
So, if you’re calling Ernie’s — or any other specific locksmith — please note that this bait and switch scam is going on.
Ernie’s is the best.

I’ve been here several times in the last year. Both for my office and for personal. Regular keys and SPECIAL KEYS ALWAYS WORK. That’s important. Everyone is very helpful.

The keys they made for me worked the first time and every time… as opposed to the keys from the hardware store which always stick. It is worth the slightly higher price to get the job done right.

Sure. You can say, «What’s the big deal about a lock and key company?»
Plenty.
#1. Many don’t open until around 10:00 or later and when you need a key or a lock first thing it’s nice to know this place opens at 8am.
#2 The keys they make always fit and always work.
#3 They have a ton of key blanks and will even replace Medeco and other specialty keys including those new fangled car key thingies.
#4 Tons of different kinds of locks for lots of different uses.
#5 Friendly, knowledgeable staff. They know what the heck they’re doing.

I’m surprised to see a negative review of this business. I have used them both for my business and home needs and they have always been super nice and easy to work with. I don’t find their prices to be excessive at all. It always feels great to use a local business too!
