I asked for another hamachi nigiri and their response was sure it will be out once the chef finishes cleaning the floor. Finishes. Cleaning. The floor. Let that sink in. I literally watched him clean the kitchen floor at which point I called the waiter over to promptly cancel that hamachi order. What a joke. This is a place that invites you in close to closing time, says it’s all good, then cleans around you and basically makes you feel completely uncomfortable. You can’t have your cake and eat it too guys — accept late patrons then guilt the hell out of them and clean around them. Have been here multiple times and this was my last.

Happy hour 5pm — 7pm on Mon — Thurs Cute little spot. Our table wasn’t super clean when we were seated but it was nothing offensive that we couldn’t wipe down ourselves. The happy hour deals are great and the portion sizes are large. But with the large portion sizes does come a lot of rice and filler in your rolls. Not the best sushi but decent sushi in the downtown redwood city area. Will def be back for happy hour but wouldn’t pay full price here. I might stick to simpler rolls next time to really make the most of the happy hour and actually enjoy the freshness of the fish.

Got the sashimi and a speciality role for around $ 40 and it was just okay. The customer service wasn’t great, the sashimi wasn’t great, the setting was great. I won’t come here again and wouldn’t recommend this place. Hopefully, redwood city has better sushi places than this.

Best sushi in Redwood City, nay, best sushi in the Peninsula area! Okay, we don’t really know if it’s the best sushi in the area, but it’s the best sushi in a 20 minute drive from our apartment and we’ve tried at least two or three sushi places around here! We actually really just go here. Cause it’s AWESOME! Wait time is chill, parking is chill, service is fast, sushi is great, I don’t know what else you want guys! Try the crazy fish — it’s crazy! Crazy good! Free tea too — YUM!

The service is great and cordial. Today, I had order couple of rolls and I had some hot tea. The food made carefully and the balance of flavors and texture are great. There are a lot of specialty rolls in their menu for your to choice from. Spice and no spice.

Update: 4÷26÷16− Ordered take out: Rainbow Roll, sashimi dinner, and salmon sashimi appetizer. See the pics for yourself! Previous review: Best sushi in Redwood City. Why, you say? Portions– highly recommend the sashimi dinner! Thick, fresh pieces of fish. Taste– this is fresh! With pieces this thick, you cannot hide bad fish– no bad fish here! Value– for $ 23 you cannot beat the amount of fish and quality. Service– the service is friendly. What more can I say? We also had: Hangover Roll– this was made fresh. This means that they don’t pre-fry the soft shell crab, it’s made to order so your roll is that awesome combo of warm, cold, and crunchy. Not drowning in sauce– just right. Spicy tiger– again, super fresh. Just the right amount of sauce. Large roll. Rainbow roll– nice sized fish on top– California roll inside was spot on. I wish the restaurant was bigger.

This place is «just» a neighborhood roll house, but every time I walk out far more satisfied than I have any right to be. That’s always a great thing about japanese food, it’s always simple but satisfying. Although this place shouldn’t win any awards for japanese food, I give it an extra star for being a cut above while being a «normal» place.

Great sushi place, fresh fish. Very small place though and they get really crowded. One time we decided to just sit outside, they were still very attentive to our table. Good service, good food, I’m happy.

My boyfriend and I have come twice now and I would say it’s our favorite sushi place! We’ve switched between tempura bento boxes to combination dinners. Everything has been so good! I like its small, cozy feel and its centralized location in downtown Redwood City. Generous portion sizes and everything has been delicious! Monday through Thursday a large hot sake is only 99 cents between 5 and 9 I believe. Perfect for two to share. The service has always been really great as well. We plan to come back regularly :)

If you want authentic japanese sushi, this isn’t the place for you. If it’s quantity you are looking for, you’d enjoy it. This place likes to serve insanely big and thick slices of fish that has no flavor. We had the sashimi dinner which included soup and salad: soup-nothing from the norm salad– no miso dressing so it was pretty bland The sashimi was nicely presented with seared tuna, tuna, hamachi, red snapper and salmon. The sad thing is all the fish tasted the same like plain jelly. The hamachi had sinew left behind that the chef neglected to cut off. The fish slabs were bigger than what you get at other places, but hard to embrace the nonexistent flavor of the fish. All the fish tasted the same-awfully bland. Out of all the fish, the only one that actually tasted what it was supposed to was the salmon. sunset roll– hamachi encased rice topped with tobiko and quall egg — reminded me a quail egg shooter except this would have been tastier if the hamachi had any flavor I’d rather go to sushi buffets or my favorite, zensen in newark, at least their fish actually has a taste. The only reason I see this place surviving is because it’s located in busy downtown redwood city.

tldr: Big portions and fresh fish but the food comes out with assembly line quality. Everything that had salt was too salty. Recommended for lunch if you’re hungry and want sushi but if you’re looking for more quality and experience then go elsewhere. Nothing stood out in particular. Dinner prices look a lot more expensive so for good value go at lunch! Everything came with miso soup and a green salad. OKAY: Yokohama sashimi special: You get 3 pieces salmon, tuna, hamachi and mackerel. May vary since it’s supposed to be chef’s selection. Pieces are easily double in size of what you get in other sushi places. Comes with rice so it’ll fill you up and then some. MEH: Spicy tuna roll: Too much rice and the tuna was a terrible texture. It’s more of a paste than fresh fish. Okay flavor. Ika sansai: The marinated squid was too salty but the flavor was decent. If you’re going to get this then make sure you have water or rice to dim the saltiness. NOTGOOD: Tonkatsu don: TOOSALTY. The rice is good and there are no other redeeming features. The pork is super dry, the onions are super salty and in general the dish is overly seasoned. It’s a huge portion and is only $ 9. Soft shell crab: Too breaded and not enough crab. Terrible value.

Great place to come to during the week to take advantage of their $ 1 sakes. In addition, their food is really good and service is efficient. There’s always a lot of people when I come which I think speaks to the quality of the food here.

The first time I noticed when my friend and I entered the door was the great customer service, very attentive and friendly. I ordered a bento teriyaki box, it was very fresh. The soup was very tasty. We also ordered the sushi caterpillar roll, very good.

Pros: –Large variety of creative and unique rolls –Fish is relatively«fresh»(See cons) –Bento boxes can be customized in various ways with lots of different options –Service is friendly and prompt –Decent prices Cons: –Place is really small so there can be a long wait, especially for dinner –You can tell some of the fish was previously frozen, got some unthawed pieces –The Tonkatsu here are completely worthless, dry, overcooked and flavorless, even after dousing in lots of katsu sauce Not the best Japanese restaurant in the world but not the worst either. Pretty standard across the board, minus their crappy«Katsu».

Pretty average sushi. Came here with 5 other coworkers for lunch and they did not have enough seating. They offered us a table for 4 while we waited for a party for 2 to leave so that they could combine tables, which we agreed with since we looked a little ridiculous standing around outside. After a 20 minute wait, we were seated and we ordered our round of food. Half the guys got some sort of bento/combination boxes, which was average. I and another coworker ordered the rolls. I ordered: Sake Nigiri, Lion King roll and 49’er roll. Coworker order: The Bomb(appetizer), Chicken Teriyaki Roll, and Philly Roll. I mooched off one of my coworkers for his miso soup since he didn’t want it and I found the flavor pleasant enough. The service was a little slow at first while we were waiting but they brought out all our food in a decent time. Now, for the food: Sake Nigiri: The Salmon was very fresh and buttery. Melted in my mouth. Recommended if you don’t want to pay full price for the sashimi! The slide of salmon was way bigger than the wad of rice so it was more like eating sashimi than nigiri, which i did not mind at all. 49’er roll: I really liked this roll. It was pretty fresh and the salmon was not overpowered by the lemon slices. It was a refreshing roll, not one of the flavor heavy or sauce heavy roll but I liked it all the same. Lion King: Speaking of flavor heavy and sauce heavy rolls… I usually try Lion King rolls whenever I try a new sushi place and this place had a decent roll. I’ve definitely had better Lion Kings but of the rolls I tried here, this one was my favorite. The Bomb: I feel like this appetizer didn’t have much flavor compared to how it looked. It’s fried jalapeño stuffed with tuna(?) and had some mayo sauce drizzled over it. It was okay but I would not get it again. Chicken Teriyaki roll: To be fair, I like seafood over poultry with my sushi. So which I might get the chicken as a separate dish rather than in a roll, this one was also just okay. Coworker ordered it so it’s whatever since I would not have ordered it for myself. Philly Roll: Again, coworker ordered it. I only had one piece because I did not like the cream cheese in my sushi but that’s a personal preference. So the things I recommend for this place are the Sake Nigiri, 49’er Roll and the Lion King. I take away one star because they were extremely late in bringing out our check and a to-go order I had placed. We were already late getting back to work but the order was not finished until about 30 minutes after I had ordered it, so the service took a nose-dive. The food here is pretty average, I was not blown away by anything I ate. I would come back if I was in the area but I would never crave Yokohama’s.

Out of the few sushi roll restaurants in Redwood City, Yokohama is my favorite. There is a huge selection of rolls you can get and if you don’t know what you want before walking in, you can easily spend more than a few minutes trying to sort through the choices. I emphasize though, this is a place great for sushi. They do have bentos and ramen but those are less than stellar. I come here for the sushi, nothing else. I’ve too many of their rolls to name but the one that I always get is the Broadway Spider. Their rolls are always filled and topped with a huge portion of whatever is listed with the roll. For rolls with fish topping the roll, it is common for you to get a block of sashimi on top, not a cursory slice like many other places, but a block like you’d get in a sashimi platter. Some may not like that but to me, hey its more bang for the buck. The fish itself has always been fresh when I’ve come and the pieces are good quality piece(not stringy and junk ones). One thing I do have to mention that I love about this place. Their Uni nigiri! My goodness, every single time I get the Uni, it is just the best. The nigiri is filled with 4 or 5 huge pieces that are choice selection and fresh. I’ve never had a sour piece, only the sweetest. If you like Uni, you will want to get it here!

Came here last night in the crazy heat after a long workout. We were craving cool(temperature) food, so salad was naturally the first thing to come to mind… but in wanting something more substantial, we immediately sushi would be a far superior choice. The restaurant is kind of small with some sidewalk seating. The doors/windows open out onto the sidewalk, so it makes the restaurant feel a lot larger and more open than it really is. We ordered four rolls to share between the two of us: giants roll, sunset roll, crazy fish, and… I forgot the name of the last one. All of the rolls were outstanding, but what I really noticed was the size and freshness of the fish. There was so much flavor — almost a sweetness — to each fish! I would definitely come back here some time. My only quip with this place was that they wouldn’t give me anymore water once I signed the credit card receipt for the bill… which kinda sucked, but the food was delicious!

Nice semi-classy japanese place in downtown redwood city The place is hard to miss as you drive by, especially at night because of all those big lanterns hanging outside the entrance. The inside is also quite flashy in terms of lighting! With a huge neon«Yokohama» sign above the sushi bar. Feels like a party :) ALLTHETIME The food is not bad. Originally I came here wanting to try the chirashi because it looked so good in the photos, but then the menu says it was going to set me back $ 21 before tax, and so I got the tempura udon instead. The udon was ok – the tempura had a lot of veggies and pretty much only one shrimp/meat, which sucked, but at least the noodle portions were pretty big. Also, the cali roll was very well done – big and consistent, with a lot of filling/ingredients, and also pretty tasty. The service was also pretty good too. The folks there were on top of things and made sure everything went smoothly. Overall, a pretty chill place to stop by if you walk past.
