This was one of those restaurants I stumbled upon by accident, and boy am I glad I did! Small, quiet and friendly, it’s one of those places that gets everything right. The menu is a mix of traditional Cajun and southern classics, all with the head chef’s personal spin. I’ve done Sunday brunch, Sunday dinner and mid-week meals here, with every dish being as good as it gets. They also have one of the best pecan pies in the city — made in house! Really, there are a lot of over-hyped restaurants in the French Quarter, but I can promise you that I’m not overselling Vacherie — it’s just wonderful. The restaurant is very easy to overlook. If you don’t pay attention while walking down Toulouse, you can miss the hanging wooden sign right past the Hotel St. Marie(the restaurant is actually inside the hotel).

Coffee was pretty good, I figured they would have had more of a variety and maybe offer some pour overs. The place is cozy and the Danish and coffee shop shares space with the bar and restaurant but you really can’t even tell… I would recommend it if you are trying to grab a quick coffee and muffin.

Lets keep this short and sweet. SKIPTHEGUMBO… perhaps the worst gumbo I have tasted in my life. Everything else we had was delicious! Pork Chop– You better be hungry! Huge servings Grit cake w/Greens — Delicious Brussels Sprouts Side dish… We licked the skillet it came on. Beet salad with spicy walnuts… You must get a bite of it all together for it to make sense… but delicious. Bread Pudding– Really good Just ok… Chicken stuffed with with Boudine. Don’t skip by this place… the food is decent!

AWFUL. I feel completed violated by the fact that I spent $ 140 on an inedible dinner for 2. And the service was nonexistent. Probably the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. We. Came here for Christmas Eve dinner and Vacherie certainly knows how to ruin Christmas. Update: I woke up in the middle of the night really sick! And considering I lived in Asia for four years, my stomach can handle just about anything so something here must have been toxic. Definitely the worst dining experience I’ve had. I never warn like this but DONOTEATHERE! You will regret it.

I discovered Vacherie before I read the reviews. Am glad of it. I was in town three nights and business and ended up eating here in the bar for dinner twice. Comfort food nirvana! Big and good portions. Super reasonable prices for value. Amazing really. I wanted to take my video crew out for dinner before our last shoot and had asked our three local guys for recommendations. They were excited to turn us on to their favorites but then the afternoon shoot went long and our dining window vanished. They couldn’t believe that a non local turned them onto such great food half a block off Bourbon Street. They also couldn’t believe the $ 5 happy hour food menu. I ate all my meals in the bar from the restaurant menu and the happy hour menu… Wonderful service with a touch of attitude, which I really enjoyed. This place ain’t no sterile McDonalds… Thank god. This morning is my last meal in New Orleans this trip. We celebrated a bit too much at the end of the night so I’m enjoying a successful hangover cure of Debris and grits with poached eggs. Debris is roast beef cooked long enough to melt. Fantastic melt in mouth combination of flavors. For dinners I’ve shared in: $ 5 sliders, gator sausage, deviled eggs, shrimp étouffée(discovered that it’s not my thing). Also from the restaurant menu, sausage sliders, fried oysters(best I’ve had), grit cake and collards… I’ve never, ever had greens that were a little sweet before. YUMMY dish.

We come to New Orleans for weeks at a time, and we eat out ever night. Vacherie has become our«go to» place when we’re looking for a good meal in a pleasant setting. The menu is interesting, the food is always well prepared, and the kitchen is willing to make adjustments for dietary needs. The dining room is quiet, private and very pleasant. A haven away from the noise and crowds. The servers are always well informed, pleasant and helpful. If you’re looking for a pleasant, quiet, even romantic, meal, give Vacherie a try. (And BTW, we usually eat in the restaurant, but we have also eaten at the bar on Monday night when the dining room is closed. The bar is also pleasant and friendly.)

This small bar-type café is a great place for a nice break away from the madness. It’s quiet, intimate, Room has dim lighting, etc. Victoria is such a great bartender! She talks to her customers with ease and is efficient with bartending. She’s definitely one of my favorite bartenders in New Orleans! She made me a great mint julep and I enjoyed my first one. She has great personality which fits this place. I’ll be coming back here sometime soon for more!

Delicious breakfast of crawfish fritata, fresh biscuit, incredible bacon. Indoor ambience is a bit old school for us and unfortunately it was too cold for the courtyard

Breakfast in the quarter, a café, a regular sit down and a bar(go figure)! Ordered Croque Madame(ham Sammy with fried egg) on French bread which held up to the egg and the sauce, actual pieces of ham with a great béchamel sauce on top — croque’s are different at every place so this is one of those good, somewhat memorable. I keep exploring the menu. Service was great! Coffee is awesome(French Market blend) ! And great basic grits!

Good food let down by appalling service. Arrived and waited two or three minutes to be greeted and seated. Place had two other tables with another party of about eight. Took our drinks order. Diet coke was not coke. Definite inferior brand. Decided our food order quite quick and ordered. We then waited for over 30 mins for our food. I had the southern sampler dish and it was really nice. Gumbo was tasty, same for shrimp étouffée. Food brought out, had to ask for cutlery to eat it with. Not asked once if wanted any more drinks. If you like good food with awful service to spoil it all, this is the place for you.

We had an early dinner here before our ghost tour. We were looking for something authentic and New Orleans, and we found it here! Not to mention, the service was amazing! Our server was extremely gracious and attentive(granted we were one of the only people eating in the dining room vs. the bar) but still, he was great! He even went out of his way to find out a place where we could purchase bug spray :) I got the Louisiana étouffée — it was wonderful — the sauce was mild enough for me with just that kick I was looking for. It also came with lots of shrimp! Mmmm My husband for the stuffed hen, which he was very happy with. I’d highly recommend this place, especially if you’re looking for a romantic dining experience in the French Quarter. One thing to note — dinner doesn’t start until 6 p.m. Since we were having an early dinner we had to wait just a few minutes.

This restaurant has some of the best food I have eaten in NOLA. Beautiful courtyard, peaceful oasis. I highly recommend the grit cake and collards starter. BBQ shrimp and grits is good, too. This is something different from the gumbo, jambalaya circuit — not that I don’t like all that; I do. But this chef is something else. Comfort food done in a gourmet manner. Fancy but not pretentious. Paul was a very attentive server and someone I am glad to have met. Kudos.

If you are lucky enough to stumble upon this gem of a place, just a stone’s throw from the debauchery of Bourbon St, then whoever you say your nightly prayers too, thank em doubly. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary last week in New Orleans and after a harrowing night of hurricanes and hand grenades, we needed a quite place to recover. The venue was relatively empty, bar some locals and our wonderful servers(who’ll I’ll rave about in a bit) and we’re promptly shown a menu that soothed troublesome tummy just the sight of it. We began with a serving of buffalo bacon mac and blue cheese in a skillet. This is one of the most mouthwatering morsels I’ve ever had the privilege of digesting. It sounded so good, I put my lactose intolerance to the side, and I was not disappointed. The next course was a New Orleans sampler. Gumbo and shrimp étouffée and collard greens with pork belly and a side of the best fried green tomatoes that ever did get fried. Our service was amazing, Paul and Victoria are so personable and it felt like we’d step into our Ol local where the food tasted like home and the service felt like meeting friends for a drink at the end of long hard day. Please note though, it’s a beautiful local bar and is definitely not a place to get wild in, please be respectful of that when choosing where to dine in old Nawlins.

Came here for BREAKFAST. Went here because it’s in the Hotel St Marie. The menu looked solid and we didn’t have time to search for a breakfast place before a tour we were going on. Service here was solid. The woman who served us was attentive and kind, and everything went super speedy, which was good because we were in a bit of a time bind. My boyfriend got the eggs and bacon plate with potatoes. Potatoes were soggy, blah. Eggs were that weird overcooked-undercooked state. Bacon was good. I got the oatmeal with apple, walnuts, and brown sugar and raisins. I got it, and the oatmeal was this weeeeeird consistency. Like if that SMACKS cereal didn’t have sugar in it and was left in hot water. Not the best. And then the apple was literally 2 tiny slices of green apple. Kind of blah, even for oatmeal. And barely even made a dent in that bowl! So much of it! Then we got the receipt. My oatmeal was more expensive than the eggs! What. I’d say if you want oatmeal, get a side of it. It’s only $ 5 and probably all you’ll need.

Came here for breakfast because, unlike Brennan’s, it offered its regular breakfast menu for Easter. But it also had some specials, so I had one of those: shrimp with grits, the best-tasting shrimp I had anywhere in Louisiana. Prejudice would suggest a staff of waitresses with tattoos and piercings would not be very caring towards their customers. Prejudice would be wrong. Excellent, attentive service.

Le sigh I saw that friends liked this place and it was around the corner from where I was parked so I took a chance. Our server(see Katie A’s review) was… a little lost. Pretty much everything we said seemed to confuse him. The space itself is lovely both inside the restaurant and the attractive patio I peeked into I got a cup of the seafood gumbo and it was mediocre at best. I also had a special salad which was grilled romaine with shrimp. The salad was OK. Some of the romaine was overcooked and it just made me long for the superior version at Boucherie. I sampled a couple of companions items. The ceviche wasn’t…it was a cold seafood salad. The roasted okra was amazing. The rest, meh. So maybe next time I’ll try the bar instead
