Such a yummy place to grab a quick bite off the beaten path in the French Quarter. I definitely recommend heading there for a tasty lunch! Your expected Southern Hospitality and delightful food. Take your lunch outside and eat there while people watching and enjoying NOLA.

I really liked this place. It seemed like a great neighborhood café. I bet a lot of locals go here. I had the Shrimp burger and my wife had a bowl of gumbo that was as big as her head. The shrimp burger had apple wood smoked bacon and a bag of gluten free chips. Never having had a shrimp burger before its hard for me to compare it to anything. The flavor was a lovely combination of bacon and shrimp. The best of both flavors mixing for a great lunch. It was huge and sort of drippy just like a good burger should be. I would most defiantly go here again.

I found this grm after a long day in the French Quarter. I had the jambalaya and it was great! Tasty and filling! Nija was super friendly and helpful. I would come back if in New Orleans again.

I stopped by Somethin’ Else for breakfast during a weekend in New Orleans with my wife. We were very unimpressed. To begin, the kitchen was out of shrimp and grits AND bacon. How can you be out of bacon for breakfast? I ended up ordering the beef biscuit, but it was not well seasoned. The biscuit was fairly good but the shredded beef on top was just flat and tasteless. My wife had an omelet that was ok, but she did not get hash browns like she had ordered. Additionally my orange juice tasted fermented and old. I would not at all recommend this restaurant with so many other options nearby.

It’s okay. I had the French toast but it just tasted like a piece of bread pudding with praline sauce. Not really inspired to come back.

Y’ALLGOTSOMEPEOPLEOUTHERE!!! I dont think i could have picked a better day to be there for lunch. It was sunny with a slight breeze and a temp of 73 so we decided to eat on the terrace. We go in and are greeted by a dishwasher that says«YALLGOTSOMEPEOPLEOUTHERE». A lady comes out and says its open seating, just choose where you would like to sit. We then go to the terrace and realize, she probably doesnt know we are out here. I get up to let her now we are outside, and she says ok just grab 3 menus and I will be out there to take your drink orders. DO I WORKHERE? Why am I grabbing my own menus instead of you meeting me at the table with them? BUT I grabbed the menus and went back outside. She came to take the drink order, left, and when she came back, we were ready to order. She retrieves the menus and walks off. She begins YELLINGOURORDER from outside into the bar. Before I even get a chance to look over my shoulder at her, she is taking a puff of a SHAREDCIGARETTE with a coworker. I’M FLABBERGASTED. Almost 30 min later, we got our food. and I must say, THESHRIMPBURGERWASAMAZING. I didnt care for their fries. I didnt know if they were left in the oil too long or if they were supposed to be like«CAJUNSTYLE» LOL but they were dark, bland and undesirable. The right amount of spice and cooked really well. The only thing missing was pickles. We were given some but they were dry and sad! lol We had another group join the terrace to eat at the restaurant but apparently it too so long to get the lady to come back that they left. THEFINALKICKER… The waitress must have noticed the other table had left and she begins cleaning the table WITHANOTHERSHAREDCIGARETTEINHERMOUTH. and Who is she sharing it with? THEDAMNCHEF! WITHIN4FEETOFOURTABLE. Thank goodness we were finished eating because Newport Smoke and Shrimp cant be a good combo. I WOULDNT go back but I would like the recipe for the burger! lol

After finishing our bone-chilling(not really, it was super fun!) cemetery tour we were ravenous and looking for something delicious for brunch, but unfortunately we arrived at 12.05 and they were very strict about not serving us breakfast food after noon, which was very disappointing but understandable. We perused the menu and decided on the Three Layered Grilled Cheese(bestie had been on a grilled cheese spree) and the Vegan Delight sandwich. Both came with chips, but we were really hoping for fries and salad to share — this seemed to confuse our server quite a bit, but we did get what we wanted. Service was fairly slow and curt, but we’d come to expect that from the French Quarter by this point. A few minutes after we ordered we realised that the sandwich had said it was vegan and had mozzarella in it — I have to admit we panicked a bit! Vegan cheese is… not our favourite thing! We quickly spoke to a server and asked her if it was vegan cheese — she wasn’t sure but brought over another server who did know. The woman looked a bit nonplussed by our question and told us that it was regular mozzarella. We were relieved for ourselves, but very concerned for any vegans dining here — I would strongly encourage the restaurant to change the sandwich name to vegetarian, as regular mozzarella sure isn’t vegan! The«vegan» sandwich ended up being great — huge chunks of cheese, and quite flavourful. The grilled cheese was very disappointing, with very little cheese sandwiched between lots of very white bread. The fries were ok, but unfortunately the salad didn’t impress us at all. There was carrot in there that looked quite sad, and the whole thing was underwhelming. I found this fine for a quick bite, but not somewhere I’d come back to often.

Gumbo was not warm and the roux was more of a light beige gravy. The boudin balls that Anthony Bourdain raved about were a disappointment for sure. I’ve had better boudin in a C Store. The shrimp po boy was the only saving grace for this establishment. But the most shocking element was the fact that they had NOBEER.

It was a good meal. There was five adults and two children. The roast need poboy was good, fries are excellent. Kids had chicken tenders and they loved them. Mac and cheese was tasteless. My daughter ordered the boiled crawfish and we had to send them back because they were nasty. She ordered the fried crawfish poboy and said it was the best she has ever eaten. The seafood/spicy mayo was amazing. Our bill was $ 135 which was pricey for this kind of food. Overall we would probably go back at some point.

Got here a little before 10am on a Saturday… pretty empty, but yet they were somehow out of biscuits and bacon. …that’s like almost their entire menu. About 1⁄3 of the items are biscuit-centric and almost everything includes a choice of bacon. Ended up getting an egg white crawfish omelette with hash browns, which were pretty damn tasty. Never got my water refilled, though. Kinda annoying since the omelette had spicy cheese in it.

I’m thrilled that I came across this place while I was doing a beer tour today! I haven’t been in forever, but I still remember the biscuits with roast beef au jus I ate here last. It was scrumptious. I will go back ASAP. Yay!

Can’t decide whether the food or service was worse. Conundrum. When we entered the Café, we were greeted with an abrupt«Sit where ever yo want.» by Miss Freakin Sunshine. We searched for an empty table outside, but they were all covered with previous customer’s garbage. After a while, the plates were cleared… and after another while, the menus were brought out. Other people who made the same poor decision to eat there waited a long time for the dirty plates to be cleared from their tables as well. I’d ordered a spinach salad which was supposed to have bacon and a vinaigrette, but tasted like vinegar and soggy ham. The waitress clearly didn’t want to be there, and definitely made it known through her attitude. I’d overheard a fellow customer that there was no soap or paper towels in the bathroom either. Couldn’t pay our bill fast enough and leave that dump.

Cute little café from outside off bourbon street seemed like a good bet for brunch. At 1:30, brunch menu was off limits — seemed surprising as it was New Years and people are not expected to wake up early. Vegan Sandwich(not actually vegan as it has cheese and mayo) is the only option for vegetarians along with some fries or salad. It mentioned it has pesto in it but the two sandwiches we ordered forgot that key ingredient. Bread was lightly toasted and the sandwich was definitely not worth it.

After having walked past this place several times, I was urged to stop by and eat when I saw it on TV talking about Boudin Balls — of which I’m a big fan. I liked most everything about this place except the slooooooooowwwwww service: slow. For whatever reason, that day there was only one server. IDKY. She was nice. We sat outside and ordered Boudin Balls, Alligator Corn Dog w/fries, both with Special Sauce. They happened to be out of Crab Cake or we surely would have ordered it. We also considered the Heart Stopper Burger but wiser heads prevailed. Since we weren’t all that hungry, we went straight for dessert: Sweet Potato Cheesecake & Bread Pudding. Price /Value: Good for the French Quarter Boudin Balls: Excellent Alligator Corn Dog: Interesting and Tasty Special Sauce: Good on anything Sweet Potato Cheesecake: Good but out-done by the Bread Pudding: with creamy blackberry rum sauce — OMG! Get 2! No, get 3! Since we didn’t try any of the burgers, po-boys, sandwiches, or salads, I’m hoping to go back again and surely, I will.

MRSPAUL’S FISHSTIX: are tastier than my overpriced«Fish & Chips»; NON-LOCAL: despite slogan; of 100 reviews here only 7 are from locals, ‘nuf said! TURNTHECORNER and dine at Café Beignet for better food & courtyard seating! «Eat like the locals» is this tourist trap’s slogan. But living four blocks away I don’t know any locals that consider this relatively new eatery worthy of a return visit. Yet, for some reason«Somethin Else» draws in uninformed tourists. This is most likely because of its central location and outdoor eating space which is rare for the Quarter. However why would anyone eat a dry, flavorless shrimp po’boy with a bag of chips for $ 12 at this divey café when steps away they can have an amazing flavorful and piled-high version at K-Paul’s, one of the finest old-line restaurants in the Vieux Carré, WITH a choice of side(from among 8 tasty offerings) for $ 13.50? I mean really? WAYBETTERFQCAFÉOPTIONS: Mister Gregory’s, Fleur De Lis, Café Soulé, Olivier’s, Café Conti, Café Beignet, Jagerhaus, Little Vic’s, Popeye’s(half the price; at the original Orleans Parish location just 3 blocks away at Canal)

I went here on a recommendation from a former NOLA native. She likes food but is not a foodie. In fact she rarely remembers the name of a restaurant, so I was kind of surprised she knew the name so I figured I should go on my business trip. I got there after the dinner rush(or I assume since it was empty on a Monday night at 8pm during the summer). I got the surf & turf po’ boy & a side of fries. The sandwich came with Zapp’s Crawtaters, but I didn’t feel like chips even though I do love me some Zapp’s. The sandwich was pretty delicious and it was fresh(heard them frying up the shrimp since the restaurant was empty and quiet). The french bread on the sandwich was fresh and perfect(sometimes can be too soggy with the gravy from the beef or hard from not being fresh). All in all it was a good place and the staff was super friendly. If there was a 3−½ star option I would have given them that, but I did not think they deserved the 3 stars so I went up. It was not cheap for a sandwich, but it was not an over priced tourist joint as one Unilocaler put. It is in a great location at the heart of the French Quarter.

First night in NOLA, right off the plane, and we were looking for an affordable dinner we didn’t have dress up or line up for. And while the prices for burgers and sandwiches aren’t on the low end, otherwise Somethin’ Else fit the bill. The riverside end of Conti is fairly quiet, and there were only a couple of other tables occupied. It’s a small, cozy place and the waitress was very friendly; it made for a warm welcome back to town. It was a tough decision between the Popeye salad(basically spinach and seafood) and the Shrimp Burger, which the menu claimed to be a local favorite. I went with the burger, and it was really good. Its very soft texture took some getting used to, but the shrimp flavor was outstanding and stood up to the bacon, tomato, and soft crusty roll. I was also introduced to Zapp’s Voodoo chips here, and that is a very good thing! A big chalkboard lists nightly specials. We were there on crawfish boil night, and saw a HUGE pile of shells left behind by the party to our right. The breakfast menu also looks promising, but we didn’t get back there unfortunately. But this is definitely worth a repeat visit next time I’m in town.

Okay, please keep in mind that this review happened during French Quarter Fest, and what earned this place a meh had nothing to do with the staff, service, or even that the fryer was broken which, btw a french fry craving by My Favorite Vegan was our only reason for visiting. Their«Vegan Delight» contains mayo and mozzarella . Eggs… and milk. Now I don’t want to be the proxy for an angry vegan, because MFV is probably the least angry vegan there is(no really she is the antithesis of angry), but when you put eggs and milk in something it’s no longer«vegan,» and after the experience we had just trying to find some starch for a hungry vegan in the middle of French Quarter Fest. I don’t think we’d visit this place outside of a french-fry emergency but the tea was lovely.

Mmmmmmmmmm! Meandering through NOLA’s french quarter a sudden hunger struck… enter Unilocal for a gem of a find. I enjoyed my grilled shrimp, grilled vegetable plate, & Pima drink… very tasty! The real surprise however is their deserts. The bread pudding was quite rich & filling, but my rice crispy treat was the absolute best. Your raising your eyebrows aren’t you? Go get you one. they make them to order! I ordered mine to go and it came out about 10 minutes later and it was warm, chewy goodness and quite a bit of a portion. My friend & I tried some right than & there and the rest was demolished for the next morning’s breakfast.
