I came in to see if they carried sewing supplies. I was greeted as I came in, but no one left the counter to see if I needed help. I didn’t find what I was looking for. So this would have been 2 – 3 stars, except… As I was leaving, the two people behind the counter were discussing Christmas music. One of them mentioned to the other that half the top 25 Christmas songs were written by Jews, to which the other replied, «Well, sure. They know how to rake it in and get one over on someone.» I wasn’t exactly feeling welcomed before since no one tried to help me, but this definitely pushed me into Never Coming Back Here territory. Might I suggest to the employees that you save these kinds of comments for your own personal time?

Visited for the first time on Halloween. They had a ton of things, really an art lover’s place. I needed spray glitter and piping and they had both. Unfortunately the can of spray glitter didn’t work and I had to throw it away. Probably old stock. Everyone there was extremely helpful. Would visit again. One downside is parking but what do expect from any place located on magazine.

Every single time I have come in here, they were out of whatever it was I was looking for. So why 3 stars? Because every single time I have come in here, they were amazingly polite and helpful and offered to put the item in their next order. Much better that the«Sorry, you are out of luck» crap you get at so many places.

Man the owners here are AWESOME. Seriously helpful but they also leave you be to browse and seek your inspiration. The store includes legit art supplies for the talented like Re H and for me they include costume crafting items. They also have great art kits as gifts for kids or the kids at heart. They also sell gift certificates if you need those. The prices are bit higher than the big box stores, but the quality of many of their items are better and, of course, there’s the neighborhood/local angle. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

First thing you probably should know that I typically visit art supply stores not because I’m a visual artist, but because I’m a wannabe crafty girl. That is to say, I’m not really all that crafty at all. Concepts, those I have. Execution skills, not so much. And, y’know, there’s a certain pride that comes from making your own headpiece, wig or costume. In these times, I get cockamamie ideas in my head like, «wow, this bare bones skull cap needs a coat of glitter paint on it) and so, into National Art & Hobby I go, and wow, I’m blown away by the selection and helpful nature of the staff. The latter bit is crucial as I like to pretend to know what I’m doing, so I rarely actually ask for help. It’s almost like they could sense what a lost little girl I was as soon as I crossed the threshold. So, costume season is about to get started and here’s a place where you’re likely to find the materials to make it happen!

As an artist I had stopped in here sometime ago when we first moved to New Orleans and then sorta of forgot about it as I order many things online. Thank you Groupon for opening my eyes to a wonderful selection… I purchased a $ 30.00 groupon for $ 60.00 worth of goods, what a deal. The gal behind the counter said this was their third coupon… that’s cool! I came mainly for Montana spray paints… folks this is the only place in New Orleans that cares them for all that I know… as an artist sometimes you have to see the products to touch them and they have a plethora of items that stimulated this creative mind. The staff was super friendly and they let me go behind the counter to pick out exactly what i needed… I loved this, it made me feel welcome… I’m definitely going back, so worth the trip up from the bayou… and I spent an extra 52.00 and was dancing all the way back to my studio with creative glee!

I’m an avid paint-for-fun person, so I frequent this location. Each and every experience here has been a great one. The staff sincerely loves what they do and they are always knowledgeable and willing to help. Today though they went above and beyond with their customer service. I called in and asked if they could set some items aside for me so I could pick them up this weekend on my day off and he patiently stayed on the line with me and helped gather the items that I needed to purchase. I love this place, love the people. I will always shop here and continue to refer people.

I like these guys. You should too. The selection and prices are great. Their operating hours just right. And the service is on time, very New Orleans. You can even phone in your order for pick up if you know what you need and are pressed for time. Convenient location, a task to park at times, but so what? Love the murals over the years too and all the fliers of what’s what just inside the front door to the right. National Art & Hobby survives as one of the few throwbacks to pre-Whole Foods Magazine and pre-Wal-Mart Tchoupitoulas. Give them your business; they’re way more Crescent City than either of the aforementioned national corporate stores that killed Ott’s Pet Shop and the old organic spot next to Ott’s that the name escapes me. Rambling done. Heart the Hobby!

I work in the Art Department of the film industry and my dad is an artist, so I spend a great deal of time at all our local art/hobby stores and this is my favorite. Do they have the widest selection? No, but their stock is wide ranging and fairly comprehensive. No, it is the unfailing enthusiasm and warmth of every single staff member that makes National Art & Hobby my first choice for art/hobby and drafting supplies. I even feel more creative after each visit-what more can you ask?

Needed a few supplies for our booth at the convention center. This is quite a distance from the convention center. I’d say 20 – 25 minutes away, but they had what we needed and were very friendly and helpful. Decent prices. They also called a taxi for us.

This is my basic go to place to supplies when i don’t have time to run to metarie or other such far flung places. They have many items that I need. They are a cozy sized store, but great selection. They have a student discount, and are really helpful.

i just started back with my arting life this past year, so i’ve been shopping A LOT at national art and hobby. everyone always talks about how expensive it is, but i just don’t find that to be the case — at least on the items i am purchasing. the staff is friendly and they almost always have what i need — if not, they have been able to order it for me. i tell everyone i know to shop there and i’m telling you now, as well…

This is the best art supply house in new orleans, but it is definitely more expensive than some other places. The staff is great though, and can always help you out if you have questions, even if they dont wanna. Maybe i’m just partial to the neighborhood, i dunno. whatever. give national yer biz.
