As others have said, the unique features of Le Meritage are the ability to order any dish in either small(between an appetizer and entrée portion) or large(significant entrée portion) sizes, and that each dish has a recommended wine, which can also be ordered in half or full pours. Don’t pay much mind to the stuffy décor. Dishes tend to be modern twists on classic, elegant fare. Most are quite successful. Highlights included the jumbo lump crab cakes, duck two ways and the grilled venison. Our waiter recommended 3 – 4 small dishes, but that was excessive. I would recommend 2 – 3 small plates(for variety) or 1 small and 1 large plate. For dessert, chocolate lovers should not skip the chocolate mousse cake, which is an unfortunate description because it is infinitely more decadent and sophisticated than the name implies). Prices are steep, so save this for a special occasion. That said, it’s worth every penny. I’d recommend making a later reservation and grabbing a drink at the attached bisto beforehand.

Awesome. The oyster soup and the lamb two ways may be the best I have ever had. The service was spectacular. I had eaten at Le Meritage over a year ago, yet, some our waiter Nick remembered not only my name but where I was from etc… Le Meritage was very good under the old chef, however, new head chef Mark Harris’ tasting menu was superior to last years menu. In my opinion, Chef Harris has a great future!

Good but not great. Beautiful room and attentive staff are big credits. And, I really enjoyed the wine that was recommended by the menu and waiter as appropriate to my meal. However, the pretentious and expensive menu meets the diner only half-way. Plates are artfully prepared but the flavors underwhelm. My duck dish that was to include fois gras seemed to have only a hint of the fois atop the the duck breasts. The«summer beet» risotto was stunning and really rather good, except that there was no hint of beet other than the purple dye in the rice. A nice effort and a lovely venue, which included the music from a guitarist wafting in from the bar next door. But, whether or not I’ll return and pay a handsome sum for a blasé experience remains to be seen.

Wow. Le Meritage is located in the historic Maison Dupuy Hotel in the French Quarter. I stopped by for a date night with my girlfriend and couldn’t have been more pleased by the food! The menu is created specifically to pair the wine with your food. We sampled everything from rosé to deep reds. All of which were excellent. We selected five small plates, each paired with our wine, to share together. We had classic southern dishes like shrimp and grits, fried oysters and short ribs. Though these dishes are staples of southern cuisine, they tasted unlike any other version of the dishes I had ever had. They were fantastic! I would recommend each of them. Stick around for the dessert and order the sweet potato bread pudding. You’ll be glad you did.

Wow. My first time in New Orleans, we came here on the 2nd night of a 3 night stay. Each night, the food got progressively more amazing. Walked into the bar area by accident, but were politely greeted to the restaurant portion. There were only a few tables taken(usually not a good sign), but it was also mid-week. The atmosphere was a little on the quiet side(and our group isn’t known for being quiet), but we never felt like we were being invasive with our volume. Came here with a group of 8. Service was the perfect balance of keeping our water and wine topped off but not invasive. Started off with some appetizers, continued with some main courses. I’m not a huge fan of wine, but enjoyed one of the recommended pairings at the beckoning of my group. I chose the braised short rib as it jumped out at me as soon as I opened the menu, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t hear a single complaint from anyone in our group, and I think we tried 4 or 5 different items overall. The Red Fish was chosen by several people, and also quite yummy. When the bill came, my boss actually asked if they had made a mistake because we expected it to be much more expensive given the quality of the food and service. Definitely going to be recommending this place to others!

I have always wanted to try Le Meritage because of the reviews I had seen of it and also because I think it’s a cool name for restaurant. I’m glad I did because it was a very good eating and drinking experience. It does have some flaws, but they are overwhelmed by the what we were there for– the food and the wine. I like the menu concept. There are no real appetizers, entrees etc. Everything can be purchased in a half plate or full plate. My dining companion and I ordered 4 items — a half plate of the halibut and of the crab cake and a full plate of the short rib and of the duck 2 ways. All 4 dishes were great. Halibut is one of my favorite fishes, and you can’t go wrong with this one. The chive potato cake was a perfect base for a perfectly roasted piece of halibut. The crabmeat and bacon accents went along well with it. The crab cake was awesome, 99% beautiful lump crabmeat which was beautifully grilled, not fried. The cajun spices(added for the tourists) were perfectly understated. The cake sat in a puddle of beurre blanc for moisture topped with avocado slivers and a few thyme sprigs at the side, a meaningfully sparse presentation. The crab cake was clearly the star of the show and needed no foil. The short rib was perfectly braised and the parsnip purée was a nice«rooty» complement. My only criticism was the dish was a big dry and could’ve used some sort of reduction or other sauce. The basil gremolata was nice but simply not enough to overcome the extremely lean and therefore dry boneless short rib. The duck 2 ways was half good, half spectacular. The first way was a seared breast that was sliced across the grain and served in a little bit of au jus(could have been more) with a fig compote on top. An acceptable effort although not the best I have had. The 2nd way though was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. It was 2 pieces of duck confit topped with grilled foie gras. I am not going to describe the taste other than to say it was like having a few bites of heaven. Really awesome. The wine pairings I thought were really well conceived and, again, I like the half and full pours option. The service was excellent. Our waiter did a great job of making recommendations, telling us what he thought were the best things on the menu and being honest about the things that he did not think we would enjoy. The downsides of the place are the cost which was a little on the high side and the ambience, and I am one who feels that the way a restaurant looks is extremely important to the dining experience. I really felt like I was sitting in a hotel lobby. The tables, chairs, lighting, floor, everything screamed breakfast buffet at the Hampton Inn. But the food was so good that the uninspired ambience faded from view as the food and wine took the spotlight bite by bite.

Pros: Halibut was excellent, the red wine made the wife a believer, her crab cakes were delicious, and my shrimp and grits were tasty once I realized they’re meant to be semi-mixed. Service was top notch. Cons: You’re gonna have a much lighter wallet, you can’t really say it’s a con, it’s kinda expected.

The night got off to an interesting start as we entered Le Meritage. The hostess eyes’ actually became inflamed with judgment and loathing at the sight of us. I don’t know(or care) if it was because my skirt was too short(though it passed the high school«three finger» test) for her liking or if she didn’t care for my flannel, either way within the first five minutes she made very clear she did not think we belonged at such a fine establishment. And maybe we didn’t, because on a Wednesday evening the place was practically empty with most the clientele over 60(a group known for their fantastic taste buds). Not that the hostess’ judgmentally looks are in any way justifiably or professional. Naturally we were sat in some far off corner and largely forgotten about for most the evening. If Le Meritage is going for upscale, it fails firstly on appearance. The style is a complete mishmash. The chairs feel like they’re from an office conference room, the track lighting is painfully cheap and out of place and there’s no cohesion between paintings except veering towards hotel-room tacky. For being a wine place, we were surprised to find that our first wine glass was corked. It was bitter to the point of undrinkable. They understandably replaced it and it’s possible we gained some respect from our snooty waitress in the process. Service overall was exceedingly formal(too much for my taste) as our napkins were folded over our laps for us and the waitress took OCD-care to make sure every plate and utensil was positioned just right. The menu is essentially a wine-pairing selection with the option of small or large plates for all foods. We got four small plates and two glasses of wine each(the total came to around $ 100). All in all, the food was okay. The highest compliment my boyfriend gave was along the lines of «food doesn’t always have to be so flavorful I suppose.» The crab cake was fresh tasting, but light on the creole spices. The lobster ravioli was not at all what I expected, in that it wasn’t ravioli. Instead it was like a messy sandwich where instead of bread were two large squares of pasta with a loose middle of with lobster and some vegetables. It once again tasted fresh, but plain. The duck was overcooked for the duck two ways. The mushroom risotto was a little plate of heaven. All in all, the food at Le Meritage is mediocre when compared to the other great foodie options available in New Orleans, the atmosphere fails to reach high marks and the service manages to be both formal and unprofessional.

I was here for a 504ward event. We had an amazing deal, where we got a 3 course meal for $ 30, including tax and gratuity. I had just spent too much money eating out during Restaurant Week but I was not about to turn this deal down. This girl RSVPed, put on a nice dress, and got on the streetcar to join other young professionals in the city for a dining experience at Le Meritage. The first course was a tuna tartare napoleon. I love me some napoleons, ever since I tried a couple of them at Andina in Portland(one of my absolute favorite restaurants). This was delicious. It had corn, guacamole, and crispy tortilla. Everything came together very nicely. Main course was a seared red fish served with succotash, fried green tomatoes, and herb butter. It didn’t blow my mind or anything, but it was good. I think I wanted more flavor, especially after the tuna, but it was good. The dessert was a chocolate pot de crème with berries. Mine was gone within seconds. There were ladies at my table who only ate half of theirs. I had to resist from asking these strangers if I could finish their dessert for them. I behaved though. My goal was to go to this event and make some female friends, because I still know very few women here, and while I didn’t meet that goal, I got a very nice meal out of it. I’d like to go back and try other items on their menu.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Went there for lunch and had a great dining experience. They have a special menu to choose from with different wine pairing recommendations. Food(lunch) is a set price of $ 13 or $ 21 and comes with free dessert. I never got that far because I ate everything on my plate and was too full. Going back for dinner with the boyfriend.

The French Quarter WIne Festival makes its home here, so you buy tickets or are handed tickets and make your way to the Italian vineyard-hosted evening and there’s this professional class drinking the day into what’s next — there’s your doctor from 9am then your attorney you missed at 2pm and you’re sort of there, shaking hands with their friends congenially in the concrete and marble courtyard, short palms swaying in May. Sitting down a course comes and the wine is poured and poured again and the space is a not so memorable, sort of meeting hall angular with rows of white linen tables. The woman adjacent to you sitting by her ophthalmologist/boyfriend looks directly at you and wants to know your number. The surgeon across grimaces and tells you about his second house. He’s knows everyone on the Planning Commission and they’ll never approve his balcony. The fourth course comes and you’re asking for another glass, maybe the fifth, there’s no good way to remember. You learn the vines in Tuscany grow into hills, at times 40 feet deep, and it’s better to plant them in a valley. Later you’re told the king of wines is Brunello di Montalcino, and why not, tonight you believe it. It’s over and your meal was careful, maybe kind. You really want to forget everything the Canadian to your right told you, there with his sister the blonde Albertan legend, traveling the world playing golf together. The waiters seem to speed up, the weekend almost here. The chef will come and say hello to your table. Buy him another at the hotel bar still open, and then wander into whatever you’ll remember, on this corner and that corner and the next.

What makes Le Meritage a 2-star instead of a 5-star? The same thing that separates men from boys; first place from second place; gods from mere mortals — the package. I’m talking about the WHOLE package. The attention to detail — flawless execution. Basically, what I’m saying is that a restaurant that purports itself to be even leaning towards fine dining, enters a league in which restaurants cannot be judged solely on the taste of its dishes. Rather, the dishes must not only taste good, but look, smell, and be served well. Le Meritage, for the price and atmosphere, falls short on many of these categories. The first of many problems, and arguably the most discomforting, was the service. After being seated and waiting for a few minutes(which I don’t mind), our first interaction with our waitress was ‘I’ll be with y’all shortly’, which turned into the manager taking our order and telling us that our waitress was going to take our wine pairings. Fail. Did I mention that she didn’t even acknowledge us after she said she would be ‘right with us’ and even after the manager took our order? ! Double fail for when she didn’t even take our wine pairing orders until we had to shout her down. Last time I checked, I was at a moderately fine dining restaurant, not dim sum. I would be more forgiving had the food been orgasm-inducing. But alas, Le Meritage didn’t deliver here either: Amuse Bouche: Fried halibut over tomato confit Not sure if the chef was aiming to have the fish be crispy… but the product was dry — so dry that it couldn’t be saved by the tomato confit, but rather, had to be doused with gratuitous gulps of water. 1st Course: Tuna Tartare Napoleon(corn, guacamole, crispy tortilla) The first course wasn’t bad, though I thought the crispy tortilla didn’t do much for the dish, as it wasn’t very flaky, but actually pretty dough-y. The corn, surprisingly, added nice texture to the tuna and guacamole, which, alone, would feel more like baby food. The pepper corns in the tuna tartare add nice flare and really pull out different flavors in the dish. 2nd Course: Duck Two Ways(fig compote, foie gras, butter potatoes) — 07 Duckhorn«Decoy» Pinot Noir Napa Valley, California Identity crisis dish: in other words, I don’t think this dish knew what it wanted to taste like, which resulted in a plate composed of three separate dishes rather than components of a larger, more cohesive dish. The fig compote was served over dry, flavorless duck breasts, which were easily overpowered by the compote. The foie gras, on the other hand, was served over a juicy piece of thigh. This was the highlight of the dish, as the foie was decadent and its heavy liver flavor complemented and the thigh meat very well. It was awkward to switch between bites of foie and bites of dry duck breast. Also, since the dish was so jumbled and didn’t really have a solid theme, the wine pairing was completely thrown off. 3rd Course: Braised Beef Short Rib(parsnip purée, basil gremolata) — 02 Peter Dipoli«Fihl» Merlot Alto Adige, Italy One of the better dish and wine pairings of the night. The short rib, however, was disappointingly dry — it actually reminded me more of a cut of brisket than short rib. The juice of the short rib, coupled with the gremolata and wine, however, was excellent. 4th Course: Wild Mushroom Risotto(white truffle foam, parmesan) — 06 Lioco«Indica» Carignan Mendicino, California I usually love the combination of risotto, mushroom, and truffle, however, this preparation left much to be desired. It was disappointingly bland, and I attribute this to the fact that the rice was undercooked, thus naturally the whole dish was undercooked, not giving the truffle or mushroom adequate time to present its full flavor profiles. A wine pairing can’t bring out flavors if there isn’t much flavor to start with. 5th Course: Lamb Osso Buco(horseradish mashed potato, lemon zest) — 08 Guidobono Barbera d’Alba Langhe, Italy The wine was great… the osso buco… not so much. Once again, the meat preparation was way too dry! There’s not much else to say, other than, when you over cook meat, it tends to be dry and flavorless — chewing cardboard ain’t fun. Ever. 6th Course: Citrus Lemon Soufflé Good though parts of the soufflé were extremely soggy(gross!). The chantilly does a great job of tempering a rather robust citrus flavor. Overall, while the meal was cheap, I don’t think I would ever find myself willingly coming back to Le Meritage. Forreal, I don’t like half-assed fine dining. Then it isn’t fine dining anymore! Seriously, go hard or go home!

It was our first meal back in Nola in two years, so the two of us each got 4 small servings accompanied by a half pour of a wine. The meal was hit or miss throughout, and not cheap for such an experience. The white wines were disappointing but the reds were much better. We also sat next to a table of wince-inducingly loud women celebrating a birthday — even the staff had never heard a table that loud. They were in a solo space off the main room, and all the sound bounced back by way of our table. Hits: — the best beef carpaccio I’ve ever had. I don’t like the chewiness of raw beef, but it seemed they had slow cooked this beef ever so slightly so it was still quite raw tasting but meltingly tender. — the crab cake was a generous serving of crab chunks. The accompanying avocado worked nicely. — the sage(?) gnocchi was then pan fried and had a great texture. — some of the red wines were lovely including the Catapult shiraz/viognier, the Artesa pinot noir, both of which were reordered. The syrah rose was strawberry tinged and surprisingly rich. — the bread was light with a thin crunchy crust… just the way I like it. Misses: — the white wines were largely disappointing. The New Mexico gyuet sparker was ethereally light(to be chartable) or completely unsubstantial(my opinion). The Chandon is fairly generic stuff. The viognier was the best of the bunch with an earthy note. — wine prices seemed tad high. Most half pours were $ 6 – 7. — the crab corn bisque was just so so and seemed slightly burnt with a gentle brown color. — the pork and beef shortribs were unmemorable, partly because we were were so full. We had ordered four small dishes at our servers recommendation. As I finish this review months later, the main memory was an uneven meal and wines, sitting next to the loudest table of shrieking women.

My husband and I celebrated our 2nd year anniversary here. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. They asked us if there was a special occasion and they gave us complimentary champagne and dessert! It was our first time. Parking was a little harsh on a Friday night, but we did not know they validated your parking if you park at their hotel. The host was extremely friendly and courteous. We were a bit overwhelmed at first since we don’t frequent«hoity toity» type restaurants, but it was a nice treat for us. The interior is beautiful. I know other reviewers have commented on the spotlights on each table, but they did not bother us. During our meal, we could see a wedding reception going on outside as they were second lining. Now onto the food. We ordered 4 small plates which was the perfect amount of food. I don’t really think it’s at all expensive. The Lump-Crab Cake was so good! I need this recipe. Seriously, it is almost made of nothing but crab meat! I also could not stop eating their bread, which was so warm and delectable. Their butter has an «M» initialed in it. lol We also ordered the Duck Two Ways and the Slow Roasted Pork Belly. My husband loved them all. All of our dishes came out in a good pace. The servers were so attentive and really made sure our needs were met. We never felt uncomfortable or out-of-place. We would definitely consider coming here again for a special occasion.

I took my boyfriend here for his 27th birthday and selected this restaurant because there was a living-social certificate for it and the few reviews available all cited good things. In terms of the ambiance and décor, I thought it was rather simple and unmemorable. I agree with another reviewer that the lighting was too bright and I would’ve preferred a darker, candlelit setting. We chose four small dishes + half-glass wine pairings and thought it was the perfect amount of food and drink. While all of the dishes were aesthetically pleasing and tasty, I just wasn’t WOWED. I wanted my taste buds to do the jitterbug but all I got was gentle swaying. We ordered: — crab cakes — beef tartare — duck two ways — grilled filet Oh! I will say that their bread was DIVINE! Toasted to order. Wonderfully crisp on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. And spreadable butter. Bliss. The next best thing to the bread was the service! The waitstaff was the perfect balance of attentive but not intrusive. Über knowledgeable about the wine. The food came out at the right pace, no long gaps between dishes. And lastly, we opted to finish our meal with coffee and not dessert because we had tiramisu waiting for us at home and our waitress brought back a sampler of their desserts with«happy birthday» spelled out in chocolate. It was such a nice gesture and a great way to end our night. So while I wasn’t wowed with the food, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Definitely recommend others to dine here!

Selecting a restaurant for my birthday dinner in New Orleans was a dilemma, but we did exceptionally well by choosing this one. The room is elegant and comfortable, it reminds me of the dining rooms at several Ritz Carlton’s(Not sure what bothered a previous reviewer about the art?) The service is attentive and very friendly, without being overly formal. The ability to order small plates and sample several things on the menu is a big plus because so much on this menu is wonderful. And having the wine parings offered in a small serving also makes it work even better. We shared the lump crab cake(small portion works for two) and it is without a doubt the best crab cake we ever had! No fillers here. There was a special cabbage salad offered that night, and it was truly a unique and heavenly surprise. We also got the crab and corn chowder, what can I say but more of the best crab around! Our main courses were fillet of beef, and lamb chop, both excellent. Every dish was beautifully presented, and did a great testament to the chef’s talents. I would recommend to every«foodie» to make a point of visiting this restaurant when in New Orleans.

After hearing some recent praise about Le Meritage, my family decided to give it a shot for my father’s birthday. The location has been home to several restaurants in the past, so the permanence of the restaurant is a little questionable. Upon our arrival we were greeted warmly and seated. The décor of the restaurant did leave a little to be desired. The place was a little bright for my taste and the art was just plain bad. Restaurants tend not to have as much freedom in their décor when inside of a hotel, but they could have done a better job nonetheless. The wait staff was very congenial and lively, which they tend to be in New Orleans. The menu was large and inviting. The twist about Le Meritage is the fact that you can select any dish on the menu as small or large plate(appetizer or entrée) this provides and excellent opportunity for foodies and indecisive people alike to try a number of different dishes. We all elected to choose three dishes and do something of individual tasting menus. Each dish is paired with wine grouping right there on the menu, so if your knowledge of wine is somewhat limited, they have done what they can to idiot proof it. I ordered the gnocchi, crab cake and lamb. Each dish was impeccably done and stood along beautifully in its own right. I am a huge gnocchi fan in general and when I travel I often seek out what claims to be the best in a given city. This gnocchi dish was a great surprise. They were firmer that what I am used to, as they have been pan seared after the water bath; but the combination of that and the delicious sauce made it a truly excellent dish. The crab cake followed this. In a word, it was one of the BEST ever. My apologies to the state of Maryland, but this is one crab cake to try. Even though it was the«small plate» this crab cake was massive and done to perfection, it was just a delight. Lastly was the lamb. The lamb(as a small plate) was essentially a rack of lamb, but done as a single piece. It was cooked perfectly, the way anyone who loves lamb should expect. The meat was a great temperature and the inside was moist and juicy. Growing up in New Orleans and being privy to such amazing cuisine, I am rarely surprised and delighted by a restaurant, but I was there. Le Meritage had a wonderful attention to detail and I only detract from the 5 stars because of the décor.(Really it should be 4.5 stars)

My gf and I had our nice dinner date here in December and had an overall positive dining experience. We had to change the time of our reservations a few hours prior to the scheduled time and they were more than happy to move it to a later time. The only downside was when we got there, we had to wait a little bit for the table. Aside from that, service was very attentive throughout dinner. I kept asking for more dinner rolls which I drowned in creamy whipped butter! The waitress even brought out the chef’s complimentary appetizer before the start of our meal. I chose Le Meritage because of their unique menu that pairs menu items with wine. You have the option of choosing a small or large portion, which allows you to sample more of the menu! I had the pan roasted halibut with smoked bacon, lump crab & chive potato cake and it was delicious and cooked to perfection! My gf had the savory lamb chop with sweet potato, apple & bacon hash. The hash had a sweet taste that complemented the lamb well. My next dish was the gulf cost tuna tartare with avocado, sesame & spicy aioli. The tuna was fresh but the taste of ginger was too overpowering for me. My friend had the crab & corn bisque which was to die for… it was decadent, creamy, and the fresh lump crab meat was divine! Our waitress recommended the apple cinnamon bread budding with vanilla ice cream for dessert and it was out of this world… I would eat more right now if I could! And of course, we had wine to accompany our dishes. It was definitely a nice dinner treat to ourselves after a long and exhausting day in NOLA :)

‘Oh my, how embarrassing. We descended upon Le Meritage with the misunderstanding that it was a casual, semi-upscale restaurant. Oh, how wrong we were. Good thing we make a habit of stylin’. «Do you have a reservation?» one of the 3 hostesses breathily inquired. I looked around at the completely empty room and smirked. With a healthy buzz going, and all the wonderful food out there, I was in no mood for pomp and pageantry, but this time, the fella was. I was put off by the prices and formality, plus little mistakes, like when a hostess took my white napkin to bring me a black one –to match my dress??? and never brought it. Offering me a dinner roll, and never bringing it, etc. However, once our waitress warmed up to us(due to the fella’s irresistible charm, and despite my ridicule) and the food and wine started coming, every thing was just fine. The menu is small, yet vast, and actually arranged around wine pairing. It’s interesting. We disregarded the wisdom of the chef’s pairings, got all crazy and ordered 6 small plates and went rogue with the wine. Here they are: Smoked Salmon Salad egg, pine nuts, parmesan, red onion Giant scallops Sauteed peas and corn Gulf Shrimp and Grits tasso ham, «red eye» gravy Rabbit Tenderloin tagliatelle pasta, pancetta, chive Duck Two Ways fig compote, foie gras, butter potatoes Grilled Quail andouille corn meal stuffing a decent but forgettable white. and the best cab in the world. Ever. 03 Freemark Abbey I have to say, it was all pretty wonderful as far as taste and presentation. The duck and wine were so good together. So good. The shrimp and grits were out of this world. Home cookin prettied up beyond recognition. . My favorite dish was the scallops, and although those were probably the biggest, tastiest scallops I have ever had, the best part was the sauteed peas and corn. No kidding, and those are not my favorite veggies by any means. These were special. So fresh, Obviously Shucked and podded right in the kitchen that day, and just warmed in butter. Sweet, crunchy and Divine. You will not get out of here cheap, but the pampering, the attention to detail and the quality and freshness justifies the price, if only once. It’s places like this that make me covet obscene wealth. Ooh lala Le Meritage. Have I got a thing for you.
