Worst soul food in New Orleans. If you are used to well seasoned food, then this is not the place to go. When my party arrived at 2 pm we were greeted with a menu, though we were later told that half the items on the menu were unavailable. Also note there are specific menus for each day of the week and the dishes they serve change frequently. They also no longer serve po boys any day of the week. Not worth the drive or cab ride. I ordered the flavor less catfish that came with watery macaroni and cheese(no cheese flavor, just coloring with pepper) and canned green beans. Just don’t do it.

Had the $ 30 brunch it was great! Omelette to order, large breakfast buffet, desserts, fruits, peel em’ shrimp, delicious grits, étouffée, I could go on and on. I definitely are my money’s worth. Live music too. Great breakfast spot to satisfy your hangover needs.

A gem in Midtown. The Real Deal. The Meatloaf and Cornbread are to DIE for. I just opened an office in New Orleans and I was fortunate to open it a block away from Two Sisters… AWEOME!

I decided to go back here with a fellow fried chicken connoisseur. We were not disapointed. One thing I love about the place is the consistency out of the kitchen. Everything we ordered was hot out of the kitchen. I had my usual fried chicken, beans, and greens, and my dining companion fried chicken with the carbo plate of mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and green beans. It was all wonderful, not to mention the cornbread with extra dollops of butter. A go-to place for me.

Whoever the Two Sisters are, their mother would be ashamed. I only made it to this creepy rundown shack on the bad side of town to meet a friend who says that one of the local hacks raved about this place. That cab driver should be ordered to stop telling tourists about Two Sisters or have his TLC license suspended! This place looks and smells like a funky basement. There’s busted, flea bitten carpet everywhere. Both bathrooms were out of order and I was about to burst so I used a porta-potty that was on a small construction site across the street. Otherwise it would’ve been down a few blocks and over a bridge to the gas station bathroom according to one of the waiters. Two Sisters menu is limited to THEEWORST, hard– scrabble living soul food options,(we call this«struggle» food.) Ham hock dinner, cabbage and rice dinner, turkey necks dinner??? This menu reads like the weekly meal plan for The Evans family on Good Times. I wanted the meatloaf dinner but they were out. My smothered pork chop combo was supposed to include potato salad and red beans and rice. They were out. I asked for butter for my cornbread. «Sorry. We’re out of butter.» Also, I grew up eating smothered pork chops and these bad boys weren’t smothered. They were just covered in a very unexciting brown gravy. Best part about my experience? Didn’t have to pay. Gonna leave it at that. Two Sisters needs to be bulldozed.

«I never had a chance to taste the food» We stood in line for 45 minutes outside in the heat and once we finally got inside, we waited another 15 minutes. When we finally sat down to order from the menu we were told that they did not have any more Mac N Cheese, Greens or Turkey Wings and that it was going to be about a 45 min wait for us to get our order. Needless to say we left. i was disappointed because I was really looking forward to trying the food. Maybe the Essence Festival Crowd was just too much for this mom and pop operation.

Let me just say this I’ve gone to this place twice and was disappoint both times. The only thing which I really liked was the corn bread and thats about it. The down side about this place is the long wait outside in the hot heat. Then both times I’ve came they always run out of food out of there 8 to 10 items that you can pick from only leaving you with only 2 or 3 things you can select off the menu sense they are never prepared. Noe as far as the food I’ve had better soul food. Wasn’t impressed with there Mac & cheese which looks and taste like Kraft Mac and cheese. Total time spent here was an hour wait and another hour and some change for your food. Lastly not everyone in your food will receive there food at the same time. Don’t think I will ever return to this place again.

**This review is from 2010, but I’m going back next week and can’t wait!!!** I will tell anyone who will listen about this place!!! I am from Washington, DC and am here for a conference. I heard about this place from a couple of people so we tried it for lunch. They close EARLY so don’t think you’re going to go for dinner. It is the BEST Southern meal you will ever get! The food is awesome and the portions are huge. The staff are so friendly and gives the real down in the country feel. My cousin and I got the fried chicken and my sister got the Neckbones, they come with rice, greens or black eyed peas(which I was told were the best they’ve ever had) and potato salad. Everything was tasty! There is also someone who walks around with homemade baked goods. This is definitely one of New Orleans best kept secrets if you don’t talk to the right people to let you know about it. they only take cash so make sure you have some, but you won’t need a lot because their prices are very reasonable.

Good soul cooking that has a different menu everyday. I haven’t been there in over year but from I remember there was a slight wait but to wait for this home cooking it was well worth it. A lot of the local celebrities come here also. So don’t be surprised if you see, cooks, Saints players, polticians, etc.

I’ve eaten here numerous times over the past 13 years and the food is always great and CONSISTENT. This is where the locals go. I don’t know much about soul food, but their dishes delight my soul. My favorite is the smothered pork chop dinner, but I also tried the fried catfish, and even pig tails. Ha, where else in town you can get pig tails these days? The portions are huge — 2 meals for sure. The sweet tea is pretty much a brown simple syrup! So be good to your body, and skip it, unless that’s your thing. The clientele is heavily African-American, but I never felt un-welcomed here. Service is very friendly and fast. You can also call in your order, and pick it up quickly(even when they are packed). This place is charming. It’s not in a nice neighborhood, but it’s safe and easily accessible. They have«remodeled» a bit after Katrina, so the place does not feel like it’s gonna collapse at any second. The floor feels more leveled then it used to be(or is it my imagination?).

This review has been a long time coming. I had to try this place a few times, eat a few things. Two Sisters is the kind of place you really want to love, which may be why people keep going there. It’s got that real«down home» feel or whatever. The type people always want because they forgot how to cook and create that feeling in their own home. It pretty much feels like a house that has been converted into a restaurant. When you walk in your met by smells, smiles, and tons of locals. All that is definitely part of the recipe of a successful establishment, but the missing ingredient is quality food. I’ve eaten the fried fish, neck bones, smothered chicken etc. All was extremely sub par, I’m confident I could make it better after one try off of a recipe I found on a yahoo answer thread. Most of the food is just doused with too much salt and butter, which I suppose is symptomatic of a lot soul food joints. Let’s also not forget the sweet tea, at the time I drank it I could clearly tell it was powdered and probably was 50% sugar. I love the cuisine of my people, but I can’t take the threat of obesity and diabetes anymore. I’ll say what I’ve said time and time again. New Orleans is not known for soul food, you just can’t expect the quality you can get readily in other parts of the south. I remember when I was in college in NC me and my friend used to go to this place called the ritz, literally like 3 or 4 times a week. I have yet to find a soul food resturant in this city I would even consider visiting more than a few times a year. If your looking for a similar cuisine I’d suggest hitting up Sammys on Elysian fields. You order at a counter but the food is great, huge portions, and hardly a tourist in sight.

I know this is only 3 stars, but I am definitley coming back here to try some other stuff. On Wednesdays they have chitterlings! I happened to go on a Saturday which meant no po boys. I had the turkey wings, which came with rice, greenbeans, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, AND potato salad. For $ 9 even(cash only). The turkey was great, greenbeans were great. The mac & cheese was pretty good. The rice was just rice. The potatoe salad was just so-so. The cornbread was old, but I forgive them. Huge, huge, HUGE portions. Even to go. The wait staff was super friendly and the place felt very small town for being in the middle of the city. As people pointed out, it’s not in the BEST neighborhood, but it is only open during the middle of the day, so it isn’t that big of an issue. I am definitley coming back to try some of the other dishes. It is a pretty impressive menu!

In my 4 days in New Orleans, this was one of my favorite meals. The amount of food compared with the price you pay is an unbelievable! You can choose your sides, the menu is limited but still offers up a decent amount of choices. I had catfish that was not greasy at all and very delicious. Also with that, collard greens & ham hock on a bed of white rice. On the side, cornbread and some really amazing potato salad that had an interesting lingering kick to it, but not overwhelming. Wish I had that recipe! It’s a little bit off the beaten path, but close to Canal St. where you can take the street car for $ 1.25 or so. Don’t confuse this with Court of 2 Sisters on Bourbon St. — not the same!

Went here in Aug 2009. As another Unilocaler wrote too, the area does have a rough feel. There’s no one around, weeds growing out of sidewalk cracks, a church with broken windows. Then you swing the restaurant doors wide open, you’re the only light skin person. You can tell that all the patrons are locals, which is great. But no one notices that you’re out of place. At the risk of looking like a hick, I took out my camera to take pics of the LARGE portions of food they gave us along with the super cheap bill. The dinner comes with cornbread and sides, at under $ 10. What a deal. And the food was very good, too. We gobbled up everything. There’s no air conditioning there and when you go to their tiny restroom, crammed in a hallway, you really feel the humidity. The whole experience felt authentic.

The Two Sister’s Kitchen(not to be confused with the much more expensive Court of Two Sisters in the Quarter) resides in Treme, two blocks off Canal Blvd and just lakeside of the expressway. I’m not sure if «dive» or «hole in the wall» accurately describes the inside of the restaurant, although modest houses, abandoned lots covered by uncut grass, and the graffiti decorated elevated expressway do give the surrounding neighborhood a rough feel. I wouldn’t suggest it for tourists walking from the quarter, but as for myself I felt totally comfortable parking my car on the road and walking in. About fifteen glass topped tables are available for dining. I passed on that opportunity and ordered to go, though I’d be amenable to eating in if I’d had a dining partner that day. The walls showcase a couple dozen pictures of prominent black residents, including Dollar Bill Jefferson, so I guess not everybody scorns those who would store money inside a freezer ;) To your rear left there’s a window through which you can place your order and also peek a glimpse at the large boiling pots of soul food. A small menu lies above the window advertising the daily specials, which included chicken, catfish, rabbit, and oxtail this particular day. I ordered the fried chicken dish and paid $ 8.50 cash, and cash only, including tax. This proved to be a very reasonable price for the mammoth sized portions I ended up receiving. As I was ordering to go, my food came inside a large paper bag which I took home to enjoy my meal. Everything was individually wrapped, including my cornbread, potatoes, chicken, and red beans. The cornbread was a bit of a disappointment. It was dry and bland, given the previous reviews perhaps they were just having an off day. The potatoes were probably best described as a mashed potato salad without gravy, if that makes sense. The chicken wasn’t half bad. I received three pieces, a thigh, leg, and wing. The meat was contained within a thin crispy skin. It was juicy but you could still taste a hint of the oil it’d been fried in. Of all the parts of my meal, the red beans and rice interested me the most. Steam floated out of the container as soon as it was opened, so I knew they’d been served fresh out the pot. The red beans were soft and accompanied by sausage, of course, but few other meats were thrown in as well. I found some bacon hidden in the rice, and something else, maybe oxtail? Whatever it was, the combination was quite good. Cornbread: 2 stars Potatoes: 2 stars Chicken: 3 stars Red Beans: 4 stars Value: 4 stars Will definitely be back to sample the other dishes.
