I go to Mamas all the time! The food is good and the staff is friendly. The reason they don’t get 5 stars is because they are a bit pricey. They charger like $ 6 for a sandwich. With salads they give a large portion which is a plus! Mamas you know I will return.

Can’t give zero stars, unfortunately: worst case of food poisoning I’ve ever had, and I lived and travelled throughout developing Asia. Also, they run a racket with the notoriously criminal MidCity Automotive. Stay away from this place if you can.

I can’t quite give it a Three-star rating so… I rounded down and gave it a Two. BUT I should also state that several of my co-workers who have eaten there enjoyed it. Based on their opinion, I would say that the three employees would at least give Mama’s Cooking a Three and maybe even a 4 star rating, but that’s just my opinion of their opinion. haha. So why the two-star? I ordered the grilled pork sandwich. In Vietnamese, it’s a type of Banh Mi. And if I compared it to other banh-mi around the city(of New Orleans), it’s the weakest one out there. The pickled carrots don’t carry enough weight to add any contrast of flavor. The grilled pork is barely even chard. It’s as if it is having an identity crisis. «Do I want to be Vietnamese… or American? Can I be both?» No, not really. The sandwich isn’t horrible but I have high threshold for these sandwich so… try it and make your decision. BTW, in New Orleans East, you can get one for $ 3 and in Metairie it costs $ 5 – 6. Here? $ 7. I can’t justify the«higher» price but again, try it and be the judge. Overall, this is based on ONE experience. And if my coworkers enjoyed their meal, then maybe you should try it. They do have other dishes, i.e. Asian fusion dishes, poboys and the like. It’s a fusion café of sorts. I may give this place a three star in the future after I try the other dishes, but for now, it reigns as the Terrible Twos.
