Honey loaf is a fabulous place to enjoy a quick lunch or just a coffee while chatting with friends… The atmosphere is always welcoming and peaceful. And the pesto chicken sandwich and grilled cheese are excellent. My friend raves about the potato soup. It’s a great option near Tulane’s downtown campus for between class snacks. The customer service is always top notch. They always have us feel like VIP. I recommend everyone tries honey loaf!

Chill vibes and tasty breakfast/lunch options. The ambiance and music make this place feel like it’s miles away from the bustle of downtown. Couches, love seats, tables, modem art, board games and logic games on the table make this place great for a quick solo meal or a group looking for a place to relax.

Returning to the ol’ bookmarks for ideas, almost stopped over by Rollin Fatties but felt like I wanted something new and came here instead. The inside is really cool, artsy, really clean and edgy. The seating is not your typical table and chairs set up, it’s quite tasteful, i dig it. They didn’t really seem to be on their p’s & q’s much today. I heard the cashier telling the poor lady that they pretty much had nothing she was trying to order. I went with the Treme and an iced Chai tea. The sandwich was good, but it didn’t blow me away. I certainly expected to be after the twenty minute wait for it. Not to say it was not tasty tho. Honey Loaf feels like the place cubicle workers and college students go for a quick lunch. I had higher hopes for here, can’t say it’s anything I ‘must have’ but I could see myself giving them another shot.

The most important factor in considering honey loaf is the dearth of food options in the medical district, especially near Tulane. The owner of this place moved here from new haven to be a teacher, but somewhere along the line decided to open a sandwich shop. She’s going to make money hand over fist because her only competition is a couple subways. The food is very good, particularly the treme.

I went boring and just ordered the Brava sandwich. I wanted to really be able to compare this sandwich with something I would regularly order or even make at the house. This sandwich was lovely. Great bread, great turkey meat(and lots of it) fresh, crisp vegetables. I also love, love the tables and chairs here. Service was so quick I didn’t get to finish the logic puzzle that was on the so I will be back, you know to finish the puzzle. Was slightly disappointed when I realized that the chips I had with my sandwich were lays because it said(i thought) that it would be veggie chips. Other than that, great combo of coffee shop atmosphere with good deli food.

Made a second trip. Leaving the two stars because the salad was good again. But customer service needs major work.

This is the perfect spot to get a late, healthy lunch downtown. The staff is friendly, and the ambiance has more of a casual coffee shop vibe. This is definitely not your usual, bustling sandwich shop. I got the spring salad with grilled chicken — spinach, strawberries, blueberries, roasted pecans, Gorgonzola, croutons, and a raspberry vinaigrette. All the produce seemed to be fresh and good quality. The chicken tasted a little processed, but was still edible. My only other criticism is that the salad could have been a little bigger(I can eat a buckets of salad) but for $ 7.25 I can’t say it wasn’t a fair price. The best part? A delicious muffin accompanies your meal, so desert is included! Yum

Dropped in at another downtown lunch spot and had a decent meal at the Honey Loaf. Though I have to say, there were some flaws. It is located on Canal Street, right on the edge of the French Quarter, so the neighborhood is a little shady, but the place was a neat little location with an interesting set-up. I’ll start with the atmosphere; again, the location is a little shady, but not a problem at lunch time. The inside is pretty nice. You order at the counter and they will bring your food to you. There are a variety of tables, as well as some comfortable couch seating areas. It almost has the feel of a relaxing coffee shop. There was some light music playing, some art on the walls(including a funky-designed wall just outside to the river side of the place). I’ll give it an 18 out of 30 for atmosphere. The food was good; basic sandwiches, salads and wraps. I had the bacon brava sandwich which had turkey, bacon(of course) and avocado(nice and fresh) on sliced white bread. All pretty good, but… the name of the place is «Honey Loaf.» I thought they would use some special honey loaf bread for their sandwiches. But okay, maybe not. However, on the menu for salads, it reads, «All salads come with a signature honey loaf and cinnamon honey butter.» Now THAT sounds tasty. I didn’t see an option to order it on its own, but figured I could check it out with the salad that was also ordered by my table. Nope. No honey loaf with the salad. Checking other tables, no signs of honey loaf. Were they out of honey loaf? What’s the story here? I’m sure we could have asked, but that’s not really the point. It’s called«Honey Loaf.» You can’t forget to give people the honey loaf. I don’t know if this is a service issue or a food issue, but I’ll dock them both. Food is a 25 out of 50. EDIT: Very nice of the owner to offer a free meal after a chaotic stretch for the place. I went back for a bbq chicken panini and it was also very good — and I had a piece of the honey loaf; it’s basically a muffin with tasty butter. I’ll bump the food to a 30. The service was decent; relatively fast to get a salad and a sandwich. But the table next to ours had one salad delivered and 10 minutes later, when the sandwich didn’t show up, the young woman had to go ask. They said, «Oops, we must have lost the ticket.» Again, it happens, but it seems like if you delivered a meal to one person at a table, you may notice that the other person didn’t have anything. There were only three tables occupied, so not like they were swamped. Add this to the honey loaf issue and the service gets a nine out of 20. EDIT: As mentioned above, nice response from the owner and they really are working hard to make this a good stop for a downtown lunch. Check it out. I’m bumping to a 15 out of 20 in service. Final score = 52.(I created a restaurant ranking system which includes a total of 100 points: 50 for food, 30 for atmosphere and 20 for service). EDIT: It’s up to a 63.

3⁄5 quality ingredients, but pricey a little torn here — love the concepts being healthy and all, and they ask for your name right from the start so i can see how they are really trying to build relationships with their customers. the space is cool, but was pretty dark the one time i grabbed lunch there. for downtown prices, i guess this is average, but i found that my sandwich at close to $ 10 wasn’t exactly amazing. the ingredients were all«classier,» but the overall taste didn’t quite come together. the side slaw was pretty boring, and the bread(i think it was supposed to be a focaccia) definitely could have spent another 5 minutes in the oven. i’d come back if ever i’m looking for a walk for lunch, but probably not anytime soon.

I have to preface this review by saying I did not actually eat here. But I did try, and I think my experience is worth mentioning for those who are curious about trying the place. I came in shortly before noon after reading about a veggie panini and a «build your own sandwich» option on Unilocal.I figured a place that offers both soy AND almond milk, and brags about having«something for everyone» on their website, would have some good vegetarian options, right? Wrong. There was one vegetarian wrap on the menu, but no veggie panini, no vegetarian sandwich, and no build your own option. But I was hungry and determined to give this place a shot, so I went up to the counter, thinking I’d just ask if they could make me something. Nobody ever came out to greet me, and after at least five minutes of waiting, as the handful of other customers all watched my sad attempt to locate an employee, I gave up and left. I honestly don’t think there even was an employee there, which is. bizarre. I didn’t notice if the other people in there had food or not– they all looked like they were doing homework. I gave it two stars, just because the décor was very nice and the menu looked like it would be tasty, if I ate meat and there were actually any employees. Did they just open up the doors and leave? I have no idea. I swear I really tried to get someone’s attention. I called out and looked everywhere. Not to mention it was noon, which is when you would normally expect a sandwich place to be busy, or at least, you know, staffed. I doubt I’ll bother trying again.

My husband and I came for lunch around one on a Thursday afternoon and there was only one other person in there. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and we got our food fast. My husband got some chicken sandwich w/cheese and spinach and some other stuff and he loved it and said it was the best sandwich he had. I got the chicken caesar wrap and it was super good and croutons are delish… I was however a little bit disappointed when only the one half of my wrap had avocado and it wasn’t much. Other than that the place is super cute, clean, the chairs are so comfortable and next time I’ll have to try the pasta station.

My review may be completely off since I visited around 3pm on a weekday, after lunch rush was over. The interior is really nice. As others have stated, it has a very cool décor. I went in with the intention of ordering a sandwich, however looking at the menu I was confused by the build-your-own option since there wasn’t one listed on the menu. I opted for a spiced chai, and was informed they were out of soy milk. I was offered 2% milk. um, no thanks. Not the same. Then I just wanted an iced tea, which they were also out of. I was offered some fresh brewed tea and I chose green tea. It tasted like fish or something, I don’t know if it was because it wasn’t steeped fully or because of the dire lack of sugar or what. Anyway, not the best experience trying to order a coffee drink but they do have comfortable seating.

I walked for a good 30 minutes in the heat when I found this place on Canal in New Orleans. I was on my way to a different breakfast spot so I only requested water because I was so thirsty from walking for so long. Oh I got lost, which was why I was walking so long. I put the wrong address to a breakfast place I was recommended to and my Google maps took me far from the business district. The owner Nerissa was very nice and very friendly. After a brief discussion she learned that I was on my way to have breakfast and got lost which was why I was exhausted. She recommended I tried there breakfast, I hesitated but then decided what the heck and ordered the Nana breakfast sandwich on croissant. The sandwich was wonderful and I only had to add salt to it which was ok because I later learned the theme of this restaurant is health first and salt is not good for you. I needed it to compliment the tasty sandwich. While eating my sandwich I browsed Unilocal to see what the reviewers were saying about Honey Loaf and I noticed a number of five star ratings but being the skeptic that I am I reviewed the one star ratings to see what the issues were. I did come across one rating which appeared to have weight and was very pleased to see that Nerissa actually answered the reviewer and refunded there money as well as offer them a free future lunch(Subway will never do that). I have had Subway many times and I will vouch with all honesty that Subway does not have anything on Honey Loaf. If you are in the area and would like a contemporary, peaceful place to recharge and enjoy free WiFi and great food, stop by Honey Loaf.

Inside is very nice. It looks more like a hotel lobby or a cocktail lounge than a sandwich shop. Love the comfy club chairs. The space is beautiful. The concept is great but the execution is poor. I’m a fan of sandwiches, especially paninis. I ordered the chicken pesto. Price was good. $ 7 and it comes with a side. The issue is with the quality. There was a measly few thin slices of chicken on the sandwich and it was gross precooked/packaged chicken. Reminiscent of the kind you can buy in the bags at the grocery store. If the chicken was higher quality, it would have been a good sandwich.

I can’t say enough fantastic things about this place. I visit at least once a week and have always been given stellar service! My favourite menu option is the Treme and a healthy smoothie! They also offer free wi-fi so I can work in a comfy-cozy environment. I totally recommend this sandwich lounge not just to locals but to tourists looking for sandwiches and coffee in a friendly, eclectic atmosphere! Signed, Sandwich Junkie

It cost $ 17 for a basic smoothie and salad. No extras added. I was the only customer at 12:45pm on a Thursday and it took 4 people almost 20 minutes to get my order together. They skimped so much on the fruit in the smoothie and kept adding water to make up for it. Who adds water from the faucet to a smoothie? Needless to say, it was the worst smoothie ever and I had to throw it away. The salad was fine but who can mess that up? Ingredients were fresh. The workers were friendly but didn’t know what they were doing and wasted a lot of my time for a less than mediocre lunch.

Such a nice staff, lounge-y atmosphere café with great food and coffee at reasonable prices. I like to go in here in between classes to study or get away from Tulane mayhem. If this place had wine I would move in. I have a feeling it will really take off soon… once word spreads…
