OMG what can I say that can properly describe how MAGNIFICENT Golden Feather is? It is sincerely a wonderful reservoir of history and amazing, amazing food. Chief Shaka Zulu and his family provide an excellent, heartfelt presentation and the best bread pudding I had during my entire New Orleans vacation. 100 Stars!

Another hidden secret in the Big Easy. Shaka Zulu and his wife and other family members prepare everything with love. First discovered the place during a private function in the upstairs banquet room, which they catered. Everything I’ve had has been spectacular. It’s a fusion of West African, New Orleans Creole and Caribbean flavors. I don’t know the name of it but they serve a skinless chicken that looks stewed but tastes fried. There’s a fish dish that is also stewed that is on point also. They make a homemade salad dressing that was the talk of the meeting, that was made of lemon juice and a few other ingredients that escape me. Had a late show and a lot of vodka last night so I’m kinda foggy on details right now. My new favorite N.O. restaurant.

Golden Feather is the CAT’S PAJAMAS. Let’s be clear, though: this is not a «Coffee and Tea» place, as Unilocal says it is. It’s well-priced Southern fare with plenty of vegetarian and vegan and gluten-free options, and extremely fresh ingredients. The owner would be happy to sit down and talk to you about the amazing history of the Mardi Gras Indians, and the gorgeous costumes are on display for all to enjoy. I have personally never had barbecue tofu that is even CLOSE to as amazing as the barbecue tofu here. Also, order the hibiscus drink if they have it, because it’s off the chain. OFFTHECHAIN.

This is currently my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. It’s also the only restaurant I’ve been inspired to write a review for. Their food is exceptionally good. Fresh, filling and incredibly tasty. The menu is short but there’s something for everyone on it(even vegans and gluten-frees). The BBQ shrimp(Tu Way Pocky Way) is amazing! The BBQ tofu(Let’s Go Get Em) is delicious too. And the prices are unbeatable – plenty of high quality food with no entrée over $ 11 dollars.

We had a very cool experience and great food at The Golden Feather on Rampart St. While we enjoyed our delicious Hu Ta Nay and Calinda, the one other occupied table in the room was being used by a few folks working hard on their Big Chief’s Mardi Gras Indian suit. Amazing! We had a great chat with them and they even allowed us to take a few pictures. Several full suites or costumes are on display as well as photography and related art. Golden Feather will be on my not to be missed list for all future visits. A good combination to do with the Back Street Museum a few blocks away. I would come for the great food alone but the overall experience is really something special!

Fabulous food! This place is nice and quiet, and the traditional shrimp appetizer«Tu Way Pocky Way» was to die for. My boyfriend and I split that and a «Big Chief» and we were very satisfied. Be sure to get a Bissap Breeze(hibiscus flower tea) as well.
