Again. Terrible. Why do I keep stumbling into this place?! We were walking around the French Quarter and my boyfriend picked this place. I have to admit… the look and feel of the restaurant is amazing. After we were seated I realized that I had in fact, been here before… 2 years ago. My friend’s and I had ad the most horrible dive bar level food + a waiter that was just frankly, an unhappy miserable jerk. Low and behold… we got the same grumpy faced guy again. Lucky me. He spent 15 minutes of the first part of our business rolling silverware while we sat within eyesight of him, menus folded and waiting for him to come take our order. The food… just as bad as I remembered. My boyfriend had a craving for gumbo. Too bad it was a tiny portion that tasted like it had been cooked ahead of time and warmed in a microwave. My red beans and rice was… meh. The«side salad»(if you could even call it that) consisted of a tiny saucer size place with iceberg lettuce, mushy chopped tomato and a generic Italian dressing. Yuck. I will not come back.

I didn’t know the schtick behind this place before stopping by on a Saturday afternoon. Literally was looking for a place to eat, saw this place, and decided to check it out. We had to wait a few minutes for a table, so we grabbed seats and the bar and ordered drinks. The place only has one beer on tap, so we ordered local brews in bottles(that is probably not too much of a ding on the place based on the fact that everybody else seemed to be ordering specialty cocktails that the bartender was making with flair, meaning folks probably aren’t coming here to grab a beer). The bar is also rather small, maybe 8 seats at most. We were seated in the back room for our meal and received prompt and friendly service. The schtick of this place I came to find out is that it is really old(one of the oldest joints in NOLA), so it has that really old vibe going in the dining area. We ordered sandwiches and jambalaya. Both were good(but not great), prices were very reasonable relative to other restaurants in the area. This is not a bad place to check out if you are looking for relatively cheap NOLA classics that are done decently well.

I might be a little biased toward this restaurant, but I can’t help it. I’ve loved it since the first day I stepped in the door. I brought my family here for dinner recently. They loved it too. The 3 of us shared a bruschetta and 1 muffuletta. Both outstanding! I could eat their muffuletta every day and not be sad about it. We also each had a Pimm’s Cup. You must try one! It is their signature drink.

This place is really beautiful. Dark and cozy its great for a relaxing dinner. I had the muffaletta, bread pudding, and a sazerac and all of them were great. I would highly recommend when you’re looking to have some quiet time and enjoy a meal.

My advice: Stop in for a drink, and leave. Sure, it’s in a cool part of the Quarter, but there’s really nothing special about this place. Who knows, maybe it was because the bartender«Mario» was such a curt prick. Maybe, if he didn’t exude the personality of a brick, we would’ve stayed for more than a drink. Overpriced, extremely weak drinks. Trust me, I had a front row seat while angry Mario splashed maybe a half oz. into each Pimms cup. Yep, come in for a drink, just to say you’ve been in Nola’s oldest bar. Too many other cool joints in this area.

Went for a long lunch break and was very happy with the prices. Other restaurants in the Quarter would’ve charged $ 15 for an $ 8 sandwich. So the value is definitely there. The atmosphere is definitely cool. Our waiter was a little TOO chatty for my taste, but it’s better than the alternative of an inattentive one. I got the garden sandwich which was right up my alley. avocado, cream cheese, balsamic dressing and greens on a raisin bread. It was definitely worth the $ 7.75. I would skip the small ceasar salad though next time. wasn’t really worth the extra $ 3. I’d go back for sure.

Came here because during a walking tour this place was said to supposedly be a safe-house for Napoleon for when the pirates broke him out of jail(but he never made it out), and that they do an original Pimm’s Cup. Excellent Service! Pimm’s Cup — refreshing but incredibly weak Sazerac — tastey and done right this place is nice for an afternoon visit with it’s old time atmosphere and being quiet place to get away from burbon street during Mardi Gras

You can’t go wrong with the ambience or the history of this place. Drinks are solid and I don’t think they get enough credit for their muffaleta sandwich. Be warned though-the sandwich is ginormous so a quarter or a half is more than appropriate for a single person. Waitstaff are friendly and cordial. The courtyard was closed when we visited but that is one of my favorite spots to sit back and sip on a few cocktails.

After dining at KPaul’s, you can go across the street to the Napoleon House for a nightcap. Order a Pimm’s Cup at the bar located in this 200 year old building where Napoleon was invited to live while in exile. Since not much has changed, you will feel like you were transported back in time as soon as you step inside.

Take a step back into history and dine in this local gem. The building has been here since 1762. The dining room and tables are small but cozy. Ask to sit in the courtyard on a pretty day. The menu is small and that is the only reason I did not give 5 stars. The menu is mostly po boys and other sandwiches but they do have local favorites like jambalaya and red beans and rice. Tip: Try the Pimms Cup for a cocktail.
