Catfish heaven and Buffalo fried oysters! We love authentic places to try and this was it! We walked in and were seated right away for dinner. Very casual place and we could tell the locals love this joint. I had the fried catfish and so so good along with the buffalo oysters — I’ve never seen this on another menu! My coworker had the Po’ Boy and finished it in like 2 seconds. Good stuff!

Char broiled oysters were amazing! Was a little crowded but service was fast and great. Shrimp po boy was also great!

Wonderful. The Oysters Bienville get 5 stars alone! The Rockefeller was a bit burnt-cheesey, but on purpose. Very good. The Des Jour was sweet and spicy. Also good. But! The Bienville! Imagine delicious oyster chowder on the half shell. Yummy! Incredible. Staff was great. Came during Mardi Gras. Shorter wait than Acme across the street.

CHAR-GRILLEDOYSTERS is the reason why I come back to Felix’s time after time! Sweet, juicy, and piping hot when served! Full of flavor of butter, garlic, herbs and Parmesan — oh yea! Choosing one or two of Felix’s delicious side portions of red beans and rice, seafood gumbo, jambalaya, or étouffée makes an early or late evening meal complete! The line moves quickly! The service is fast and friendly! The austere interior remains as the background for the bustling and engrossing atmosphere! Cheers! Disclaimer: with my 5 stars given … stay clear of their iceberg salad — not much care was put into cutting the wedge, mostly the hard core of the lettuce was served — not worth ordering at all

Char grilled oysters are the BOMB! Had my first experience here and I’ll never forget my first bite. Also had the fried alligator which really does taste like chicken. Can’t compare it to acme because I never went, but I can’t imagine it getting much better than that! Oh, and the jambalaya was the best I’ve ever had

I debated on how many stars. It’s 3.5 I think. Here is why. Chargrilled oysters were awesome. Probably 4.5 stars for me. The first dozen we got were flavorful but a little small. The second set was great. Our waitress was super friendly and the atmosphere was festive. Why the 3.5 stars? Well the rest of what we ordered was just ok. At best 3 stars. We got blackened gators. It was good but a bit salty. My least favorite was the sampler with etoufee, jambalaya and rice and beans. Glad we didn’t get the full size etoufee or jambalaya. Both were not that great. Rice and beans were flavorful My point is this place is great for oysters. Go here for that and the festive atmosphere. Skip the etoufee or jambalaya.

Strictly talking oysters… Had the Bienville, the char-grilled and the raw oysters. All were perfect and served promptly. All were so good we had to double down and then triple. I’ve always flip flopped between Acme and Felix’s but nowadays I favor Felix’s for the ‘ysters. Didn’t have anything else, so I can’t speak further, but saw some good looking fried foods that made me wish I had more stomach room.

Best oysters in the French Quarter. My bud who is a NO native introduced me to Felix in 2000 and it’s still pretty much the same, even post Katrina(other than that a dozen were ~$ 6 back then, ~$ 12 now). Belly up to the bar and get friendly with those wonderful guys shucking those beautiful sexy gulf oysters. Slurp em bad boys down mon cheri! ;-). Also recommend the chargrilled oysters, they’re amazing. Marble bar to stand and slurp or table service. Old school gritty feel, the place hasn’t changed much over the years. Last visit I put away 4 dozen in one sitting(42 gulf beauties in mah belly!). Yeah that good.

Delicious, reasonably priced Cajun food! Yes pls! They like to jack up the prices in the FQ restaurants b/c it’s such a touristy area but not at Felix’s. Prices were very reasonable in comparison to other restaurants in that area. I didn’t get a chance to try their oysters but the chargrilled ones looked amazing and huge! Def. must try next time! Red beans and rice was tasty, they need to add some andouille sausage in there though. We ordered the sampler which included, jambalaya, étouffée and red beans and rice. My favorite out of the 3 was probably the red beans and rice. The seafood gumbo was also good but not a lot of seafood in there as I would have liked. I wanted to sit at the bar by where they we’re shucking oysters but they seated us at the other end of the bar by the bartender. Service was good and quick. There’s usually a line at peak hours but not as bad as Acme across the street. The line usually starts forming around 7:00/7:30 at dinner. I will be back when I am in Nola!

Chargrilled oysters! Easily in my top three favorite chargrilled oysters in N’awlins…maybe my favorite due to the smokey char flavoring presence on the shell. We liked their Crawfish, Shrimp and Oyster PoBoys. We liked their Crawfish etouffe’ and jambalaya… but we LOVED their chargrilled oysters. It’s right across the street from the famous Acme Oyster House. While there’s a line at Felix, it’s not as long as the one at Acme, and no need to wait longer if you’re looking for chargrilled oysters. By the way, it is quite possible that given the option… I’ll choose chargrilled over raw in the future… it’s just addicting.

Texans vs. Chiefs playoffs game, fail. But with giving our home team the benefit of the doubt, Felix’s came to the rescue of a quick meal to satisfy our last attempt at oysters on the trip. In fact, my sister and j also came to Felix’s right before our flight on a previous trip when we looked at the line outside of Acme. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Service is usually fun and so very efficient. My kind of people. They tell you how to make your own cocktail sauce and it’s just as good as pre-made ones! Oysters are delicious here, you can also sit at the bar and watch the staff shuck them.

Ahh where do I begin, I had the best oysters here. First time I had char grilled oysters and it was the best first time of all things(well, up there in the list). They are so flavorful with a hint of smokey taste from the grill. On the shelf oysters are also too good, fresh and big — you can make your own sauce w the ketchup, radish, tobacco and can change it to your taste. Must visit place when you are in nola

YUM. So good — I would say it’s almosttt on par with Acme Oyster House but better/worse for different dishes.(But being a bigger fan of raw oysters, had to rate Acme with 5 stars & Felix with 4). Food ordered from favorite to least favorite: 1. Jambalaya @ $ 12(5⁄5 stars): Best dish of the night. Best jambalaya I had in NOLA. Only got to try it at maybe 2 – 3 spots but this was the place to get it. It’s got a little kick to it, some green onions and moist yummy rice. 2. Chargrilled Oysters @ $ 20 for 1 dozen(4.5÷5 stars): Better than Acme. Not exactly sure how or why(not a chargrilled oyster Connoisseur), but the flavoring was overall extremely tasty and pleasant to the palette. Some french bread included to dip in that garlicy, cheesy goodness. 3. Fried Alligator bites @12(4⁄5 stars): These were very good. Juicy with thinly fried outer layer, retaining all flavor. Sits on top of some salad which goes well for some much needed veggies. Ranch sauce on the side if you’re not into the original flavor. Personally I had some alligator sausage at the French Market and I liked alligator meat that way even better, hence the 4⁄5 stars. 4. Bienville oysters @ $ 12 for half a dozen(3.5÷5 stars): The oysters are done in a creamy sauce with shrimp and mushrooms, and all of them were big. Pretty tasty and fun to try since I’ve never had anything close to it before. However, just a tad bit too cheesy for me(not a big cheese fan when it comes to my entrees). 5. Raw oysters @ $ 15 for a dozen(3⁄5 stars): These were just OK. I actually bit down onto some of that icky sand stuff multiple times, which is never a welcome feeling. Size of the raw oysters here are smaller than Acme’s, so I say skip the raw ones here. 6. Turtle soup @ $ 10 for bowl(2⁄5 stars); OK so our group wanted to try turtle soup, because why not?! We’re in NOLA, it’s all about trying the new and exotic stuff. Glad I tried it so I can say I’ve had turtle soup, but… the soup was too sour and full of vinegar. Kind of felt like it was lacking something. Would not get again: P DRINKS I tried the Mississippi Honey. Description of drink: Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, Fresh-Brewed Iced Tea, Lemon Twist. It was absolutely great — strong but sooo tasty. Sweet but honey-sweet; it was a delicious concoction. 5⁄5 stars! TIPPING 18% gratuity was automatically applied to a group of 5. :(I thought its usually for parties of 6+? OVERALL I’d come back for the jambalaya, chargrilled oysters, and alligator. Great spot right across from Acme, so you can even ‘oyster hop’ ;)

My girlfriend and I decided to try this place while looking to try some oysters, and saw this place across from the super packed Acme. We noticed that the reviews were almost the same level and decided to give it a try, and wow, what an experience. We had to wait a bit to get it but there were only about 5 groups ahead of us, compared to the long 15+ group line at Acme. As soon as we got in, we were promptly seated. The restaurant itself was bright and vibrant, and had a more of a diner feel, which was welcoming. My girlfriend and I ordered the following: char grilled oysters, blackened alligator, shrimp po’boy with a side of red beans and rice, and a trio of red beans and rice, jambalaya, and etoufee. The alligator was a little salty but not too bad. I felt the po’boy was mediocre and nothing special. And my girlfriend wasn’t really digging the etoufee. But the jambalaya and the red beans and rice were excellent. Now I have never tried oysters before and my girlfriend despises raw ones, but these char grilled ones were heavenly! The garlic butter and the juices from the oyster are amazing to dip your bread it. Possibly the highlight of our trip! If you ever visit New Orleans, you should take some time to stop by this place! I know I will!

On our recent trip to NOLA, we needed an oyster fix. Not sure why we chose Felix’s over the other recommended places — I think nostalgia. Oysters — couldn’t have asked for better — we had a dozen raw and a dozen grilled. The grilled were just slightly grilled with the most amazing flavor. yummm I had an Old Fashioned, but it was pretty watered down and sugary. So, stick to beer with your oysters.

The line was short along with the wait. They really manage the service for quick turnover. Great when you’re in line. Not when you want to eat slow and enjoy the fantastic fare. A dozen raw good size oysters $ 15 and worth it. Also had the char grilled oysters which were topped with a bearnaise sauce. Umm good. The onion rings looked fabulous and huge. Worth a daily visit.

I already knew I’d be bypassing Acme for this place before I even arrived to NOLA. There was no way I’m standing in line for an unnecessary amount of time just for oysters no matter now much I love them. So I came at what I thought was an off-peak time(2:30PM) but there was still some people in line. Although it was only about a 7 min wait at Felix’s, the line across the street at Acme looked at least 40 mins. Suckers! Because this was a pre-dinner, I only ordered a half dozen raw oysters and a half dozen chargrilled ones. The raw ones were super plump and fresh! It didn’t even need any mignonette. And when I was considering thinking about getting more raw ones, the chargrilled ones arrived and BOOM, I was thinking about getting more chargrilled. They were SO delicious that I was almost bummed that I didn’t stuff my face more with oysters. However, I still had the rest of NOLA to feast off of, so I enjoyed my brief time at Felix’s and look forward to the next visit!

I heard that this place was similar to Acme oyster house and I wanted to see for myself. Came here right at 11 am when it opened and there was a line of people waiting outside already! Luckily we were near the front so it wasn’t a problem, plus they have plenty of space inside to seat everyone! Ordered the Jambalaya and 2 dozen Chargrilled oysters. In comparison, the chargrilled oysters here were much better than Acme. They were grilled to perfection in comparison to Acme which were a bit overcooked. However, it doesn’t seem like Felix cleans their oysters as well as Acme as I kept having to spit out pieces of shell when digging into our oysters — just a small setback from my eating endeavor. The jambalaya was much tastier than Acme as well. Had a slight spice to it and overall good portion and flavor! In terms of the setting, very dive bar like as mentioned in previous reviews. Lots of people like to come here to grab lunch and drinks before football and basketball games. Overall: think this place has better chargrilled oysters and jambalaya.

While on vacation, we checked this place out for some fried seafood. Inside, the place does not have much ambiance — it sort of feels like the place hasn’t been updated since 1955; however, the food does not disappoint. Service was friendly and they were quick to refill drinks and check in. The place isn’t too big so there is always a line outside. However, Acme has a much longer line so this place is a very good alternative when you are looking for oysters. Every kind of oyster prep is here(charbroiled, fresh, fried, etc) which made for some tough decisions. We got the fried alligator which was a bit of gamey but absolutely delicious. The breading on the alligator was amazing. Best breading ever. I got a fried shrimp and oyster combination which was alot of food for the price($ 17). I couldn’t finish the platter despite my best efforts. The fried oysters were crispy, buttery, and well cooked. The hush puppies were deep fried little balls that I could not get enough of. It also came with cole slaw and a bunch of fries. Very good food. After eating, I felt satisfied and full. A must for fried seafood while in New Orleans.

I do wish I had gotten to Acme across the street, just to compare, but I’ve never met an oyster I didn’t like(except for Blue Points, cuz come on, ya know?). The line at Felix’s was short at around 6pm on a Friday, I got a seat at the bar right away. I ordered half a dozen of the Rockefeller and half a dozen of the Bienville. I know some people love oysters Rockefeller but I think I can safely say it just doesn’t do it for me. Oysters Bienville, on the other hand, I had never had before and it blew me away. The oysters are done in a creamy sauce with shrimp and mushrooms, and all of them were big. I also had the jambalaya which I didn’t love nearly as much, but the oysters? Yes please.
