Met the charming owner, who was kind enough to read my book. He may have liked it or he may have not, but it’s wonderful to know that authors can go to a real place and connect with real people. Amazon has destroyed the small bookstore, and Otis is wise to expand into art. All success to a quirky, only-in-New-Orleans store!

Here is a Youtube video of the book store. When we went maybe they just got a bunch of new used books because we could not walk around the small store due to piles of books on the floor. Books were on the floors everywhere. Me and my hubby were happy to be on Frenchman’s Street and we were looking for old NOLA books post cards and other memorabilia. I ended up buying old NOLA post cards because that is all I could get to. Others say the owner is engaging but maybe he was having a bad day I don’t know but he didn’t even look up when I bought the cards or speak to me at all in spite of me asking a few questions. This was my one and only visit to this book store and NOLA so I can only go by my experience. It was cluttered and I was not able to walk around the store and I couldn’t get answers to my questions and I could barely reach the counter to hand him the money because so much stuff was blocking the counter. The store didn’t give the impression it wanted to sell anything. I got the impression I was intruding on the owners private time and space. «When a new book is published, read an old one.» Samuel Rogers *** «I just got out of the hospital. I was in a speed-reading accident. I hit a bookmark. « Steven Wright

Great«family» store, and by family I mean my people, the gays. Really great selection of important local literature, gay erotica and coffee table books. PROS — Every type of book from dime store trash to classy Richard Avedon photo spreads — Great selection of gay literature | content and authors — Genius location smack dabb in the middle of Frenchman — Really interesting guy who own the store. Not afraid to engage people and talk with them about the books, the stores history or his interesting life. CONS — Overwhelming in some spots due to the sheer number of books. — Seemingly no order to the books, titles, authors and subjects.

Get there quick. You may not find the book you’re looking for but the experience will be worth it. Yah there’s a bit of homoerotic artwork around. Actually my friend brought me in there to see a pic, ends up she had it wrong but glad we got in there. If you love books, not plastic things you can read, you’ll like this place. Owner is authentic, books are all kinds. Found a 90 year old book about Michaelangelo with 100 prints of his works for a friend. Owner sized me up and charged just what I was willing to pay and my friend loves his book. This store is in the Faubourg Marigny district of NOLA and Frenchmen St has at least five excellent restaurants and clubs plus this great book store. I’m serious — make a point of getting in there on your next trip to NOLA. These kind of bookstores are getting endangered. Check out the YouTube of it.

Great store, though not the hugest selection in the world. Unless you are looking for a huge selection of gay porn from back in the day, in which case, bring it on! Lovely location, just right for a post-dinner browse. Got a great book of locally-set short stories.
