Wow! Had no idea what to expect here. We really thought it was a simple hot dog place– it was awesome! Great character in the ambiance AND the menu! Loud brass band right outside the door, but we honestly loved that. The food was on point! I told the bar tender to surprise me and he did not disappoint– really great hot dog with delicious fresh toppings and a great chipotle ranch. Good stop if you want a change up from the usual NOLA cuisine. Ordering is a bit of a hassle though as you have to go to the bar, despite the counter right in the entry way. Sometimes flagging down a bartender just isn’t something you’re in the mood for on empty stomach. We watched a lot of diners go right to that counter and stand, waiting to be served before being redirected. Will definitely be coming back and bringing friends!

Frenchmen street — Amazing live music and Dat Dog will now go together hand in hand for me. Order the duck special(with blackberry sauce). Truly one of the best hot dogs I’ve had anywhere in the world. Thank you mr. bartender for the suggestion. My stomach thanks you.

For an everyday hot dog joint… Dat Dog is one of the best I’ve been to. As someone from Chicago and as someone who has spent much time in Germany, I’ve had my share of cased meats. The reason I am such a fan of this place has to do with the bun they used which is a soft almost Texas toast style bun. The toppings are plentiful and can be changed to your liking. The sauces are also quite good. The variety of meats is also great, especially for an American establishment. Many times, these types of restaurants only feature a few types of dogs and then have a variety of combinations… But this is the easy way out. Dat dog truly provides all of the combinations. The only reason why this place was not given 5 stars for this class is restaurant is that service could be a bit slow. Still, it was much better than the service I’ve gotten at many other hot dog establishments(chicago’s wiener circle excluded). Bottom line, if you’re looking for a quick bite in Nola… Dat dog should be on the short list of your destinations.

They are really trying to expand their menu. I’m impressed with the new items and always impressed with the beer selection. I tried the LA31 beer that was made specifically for Dat Dog, Dat Biere. It was a traditional German style beer that of course pairs well will sausage. Happy hour has $ 2 abita amber and $ 2PBR.

First time I came to new orleans, so I had to come to his restaurant and try out alligator meat! I had the alligator dog and it was pretty good! Some of the staff do need to know more about the food they offer and whats in it, but overall great place

Despite how touristy this spot is, it actually does have great dogs! It was hard for me to tell apart the sausages, except the duck(only because it was more charred, which I loved), but the buns are super soft & fresh and the dressings are great, whether you want something classic or something unique. We got there around 10:45pm on a Friday night during Jazz Fest. It was busy, but most of that is just the crowds spilling in from the streets. A side-note on those crowds: be forewarned, you will have to deal with a mob of adults on spring break mode. In terms of the wait, it’s first come first serve, and we got a 4-person booth in just a few minutes on the first floor. You order at the bar. And it’s just like ordering at a crowded bar. Don’t hesitate for even a second or they’ll move on to the next person! Between the four of us, we go the Chicago Dog, the Alligator, the Duck w/Blackberry sauce, and the Crawfish Étouffée. Again, I couldn’t really differentiate the meats since they were in sausage form. My friend said he could distinguish the Alligator as it has a dry chicken texture, and I liked the extra charring on the duck. They all had delicious relishes and soft buns. My favorite overall was the Duck b/c of the charring, the extra crisp, and the unique tangy sweetness from the blackberry sauce.

Came here for lunch on a weekday, so it was pretty empty; but we didn’t mind b/c we could enjoy the fun atmosphere & sit outside on the balcony overlooking Frenchman St. Ordered the Crawfish Etouffée — huge toasted bun holding a crawfish sausage w/crawfish etouffée, onions, tomatos & creole mustard on top. The sausage was very delicious & light, not too meaty and fresh toppings; however, the mustard was wayyy too much, which overpowered the taste of the hot dog itself. I recommend asking for light mustard or on the side. Paired it with some WTF Fries(pretty much chili topped w/onions, tomatoes, guac, jalapeños, & sour cream), but still delicious as a side Overall, really cool place to check out on Frenchman St and try out their variety of meats and special hot dogs!

Loved this little hotdog shop! I had a crawfish ettouffe(sp??) dog because i really wanted to go out of the box and try something with some Nawlins roots and it was bomb! Not too fishy but very meaty. It would be hard for me to try anything else! The loaded fries were also a great tasting treat. Very ooey and gooey just how loaded fries should be. Pairing this with a few of their many draft beers available made for a great quick dinner treat.

You either like hot dogs or you don’t. if you do, this place should have something for you. Stopped in here on many a night in between catching music shows on Frenchman and have always had a good experience. Sure it can get busy, but has always been worth the wait(never more than 15 minutes– I usually sit at the bar) in my opinion. Miles apart from other street vendors dogs.

Had the bacon werewolf and the crawfish ettoufflé dogs and I am dying, in a good way. The buns are toasted just the right amount to not be soggy under all the toppings and are just a little sweet. The hotdog meats taste of decent quality and the flavor altogether was just perfection. Fair warning though: it is kind of an end of the night thing where I felt like I I needed a nap straight after!

Delicious dogs! The bread is soft, but not soggy, the sausages are filled with flavor and the toppings are really fresh and unique. Last time I was here I tried the Field Roast Italian Dog(eggplant vegan sausage, fennel & garlic spiced), which was surprisingly tasty. Topped it with sauerkraut, grilled onions and sriracha mayo. Heck yeah!

Cheddar.bacon.ranch.fries! A drunk girls dream. Well in my case anyways. Best fry concoction I’ve ever had. On to the dogs: we got the Crawfish dog & gator dog both chefs choice of toppings. I do love a nice surprise. The gator dog was more my taste, could’ve fooled me tasted like chicken with a twist! It should be noted that I also had the best Bloody Mary EVER here. Lots of spice and pepper just how I like it. Forever missing this comfort food, all the way from CA.

My guinness dog was a tasty loaded morsel that really hit the 10:30pm late lunch spot. It was basically a loaded cheese dog and I don’t mind that at all. Plus they have a full bar. I’d fully support one of them opening in the Bay Area.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! My friends and I each got something different and loved it. The bread is as soft as butter, they have TONS of sausage and toppings options. My girlfriend and I each got the vegan Italian sausage and the chef’s choice topping and we were pleasantly surprised! The staff here knew A LOT about their food and drinks and they were REALLY nice and fun to talk to. The bartender upstairs had great drink recommendations and made me a grapefruit drink that is no longer on the menu but it was really tasty.

Delicious! Though, I have no dietary restrictions(other than, must be yummy), I did appreciate that they cater to many diets including those who don’t eat pork, celiac, vegans, etc. They even recognize that beef in pork casing still counts as pork. Beyond multiple sausage types, they have myriad toppings. As a first timer, I was a bit overwhelmed, so I chose the aligator sausage with, «chefs chice.» «Chef’s choice, «is the option to let the chef dress your dog, and boy did he… DE-LISH! We also got the crawfish etouffe fries, which were good, but… I’m still dreaming about, DATDOG!

This is an amazing place on Frenchmen St. to grab a quick meal when you’re amidst craziness around you. If you’re dining in anywhere on the first floor you must order from the bartender. If you’re getting something to-go, order at the register. There is a dining room upstairs as well. I highly, highly recommend the Crawfish Etoufee Dog(one of their specialties) and the White Trash Fries(basically some loaded fries). This should do for one hungry fellow and the fries are shareable. The great taste of that crawfish dog screams New Orleans inspired cuisine. The dijon mustard on top really tied all the flavors together(yummy cheese, sour cream, steamed bun, etc.). Don’t skip out on Dat Dog because it’s a great NOLA experience while you’re catching some music.

After a long, long day of traveling(and I mean LONG), it was time for late night sustenance. As per usual, hot dogs were on my mind. I ordered the Guinness dog and a helping of cheddar bacon ranch fries. My friend ordered the alligator sausage. I had a bite of the gator, and it was definitely the star of the show. My fries were also awesome, but the Guinness dog had too much of a crazy flavor juxtaposition for me to handle. I left most of it behind. Bathrooms here are gross, as you may expect. Service was friendly. They also have a full bar, if you’re still up for drinking more at your night’s end. We were not. Prices are reasonable, and I’d definitely head back to try a different dog concoction.

Cool place to check out for unique hot dogs. The restaurant also has a lot of character with the artwork and sayings they put up on the wall and on the napkin dispensers. I got the alligator sausage hot dog, crawfish etouffe doc, and crawfish etouffe fries. Alligator sausage was my favorite! Tasted like a normal sausage, but they also added things like bacon and onions so made it even better. The crawfish dog wasn’t my favorite, just had some weird flavors. Fries were good! Had a nice splash of Cajun crawfish flavor. I liked this place, but I would come here just to split a few bites with friends. Very casual and laid back place!
