I was slightly weary simply because I had read some of the reviews. I arrived at the shop 30 minutes before they closed, needing a new tube, wheel adjustment, brakes tightened. The guy explain they were about to close and it could be ready maybe today but tomorrow would be easier, which I understand. I hobbled a bit and the guy checked if I was okay, I explained old bike wreck injury and that I ride better than I walk, he then told me to come back at 5 and he’d have it ready(I am at times in a heep of pain due to a bicycle accident, walking from the Bywater to this shop had me in so much pain. Riding a bicycle is much easier for me). Sure enough it was ready at 5, that kindness saved me from a painful walk home and I am very greatful. I can’t recall his name, really great staff thank guys. Hugs and Kittens!

AWESOME! These guys hooked me up with a quality bike. Unlike a lot of the other shops, they only rent bikes with 21+ speeds(most places are single speed cruisers). It’s nearly the same cost and worth it. Even though NOLA is fairly flat, those speeds are pretty necessary. I was in and out of the shop in about 5 minutes. They’re really efficient! Super happy with this service. Thanks, guys!

So kind! My chain broke on the way to work and they fixed it for me within ten minutes! They also have a great selection from what I saw. I shall definitely be back!

I came to NOLA for IronMan triathlon. And this is the only place where you can get a nice road bike for rent. Guys in the store were awesome! Helped me with bicycle, gave me some extra stuff. On my way to transition station I got a flat tire so I used an extra one. After that I came to the store and asked to buy an extra one but they gave me a new one for free! I enjoyed 60ml ride on the race. That was a really nice bicycle and I left a lot of people on carbon expensive ‘horses’ behind me. on Sunday I came around 5:10pm and door was closed I knocked and they took the bike without extra charge. Thanks guys!

okay so i don’t like to be negative generally unless it’s fully warranted and i did for the most part have a great experience at this shop. after some contemplation and riding my amazing bike i feel compelled to leave this review. it’s more of a comment than a review. i almost want to open my own bike shop here but that’s another story. i am new to nola but absolutely not even close to new to bike riding. 20+ years. i found a beautiful electra cycle at this shop and the staff was super helpful in picking it out, sizing it, etc. i have been here one month and have had four flats. the explanation they give is that the tires are subpar and that the debris here is more so than the average city. also they said they told me the tires were crap when i bought the bike which is not true because why would i spend $ 600 on a bike that’s going to get flats left and right!!!@#$% all i am saying is if as proprietor you know these facts don’t sell the bikes as is. how hard would it be to offer tire upgrades at a discount if the roads and debris are so bad here — it’s like sending out a filet mignon that was ordered rare and making excuses for it being over cooked. lame.

I’ve been in NOLA for 3 weeks. Twice I’ve stopped into Bicycle Michael’s. The first time I needed help with locking up the seat on my new folding bike. A guy who I am going to assume is Michael walked out of the shop and down to the corner with me to where my bike was parked and showed me the best way to do it. The second time, my chain had gotten jammed. The same guy fixed it up and fixed the problem that was causing it. Both time there was no charge. He could have gotten a couple of bucks off of me. But instead, he got my loyalty! Really, really nice guys.

These guys are great. I loaned my bike lock to a friend and they stuck the wrong key up in there and it got jammed. I took it in to the shop and after three guys tried to sort it out they gave me a new bike lock and sent me on my way. Great folks, they do their best and get you sorted out!

I just wanted to say thanks, on behalf of my husband(who does not use Unilocal), for taking the time, patience and kindness to show us your Ice Cream Truck and to talk shop the other week. Being able to check it out in person informed his decision to go ahead and order one for his shop. Nice shop, great inventory, solid staff. Thanks again, looking forward to popping back by next time.

Had an issue with my Dahon requiring a specific part to be shipped in. Even though the wrong part was sent in prolonging the repair process(distributor’s fault, not the shop), they still only charged me for the part and labor was free. Best bike shop in town… which says a lot in New Orleans with all of the competition.

OK, let me put it another way: This is the BEST bike shop within 50 miles. I ride almost every day. I have tried them all, so I KNOW ! Rick

These guys had an ample amount of in-good-shape bicycles in varied sizes even during the Jazz Fest. They’re quick and they have some really cute shop dogs :) This is the absolute best way to get around NOLA during and for the Jazz Fest.

We rented bikes here and while the bikes were fine, the service we received was pretty poor. When we rented the bikes and when we returned them, the younger guys who were«helping» us acted like they were doing us a favor. We come to New Orleans a couple times each year and part of what keeps us coming back is the friendliness of the people and the great service we normally get. This place stands out for its poor service.

This place makes me feel old. I have been buying bikes(road, mountain, and hybrid) from them and having them service the bikes for over 20 years. I watched the owner’s kids go from tykes riding trykes to college grads. It makes me feel old. In all of those years I have always found them to be dependable, honest, and priced fairly. They have one of the best bike mechanics in the South in Donnie. Tim is also a great mechanic. Tim and Michael are extremely knowledgeable about the latest in stuff regarding bikes. Finally, every time I go in there they do their level best to make me not feel old: encouraging me to relax more, ride more, and buy more. Its also hard to feel old when in the shop. The place abounds in youthful energy and craziness. Always has. Suppose it always will.

Great place to rent a road bike if you’d like to get a ride in on the road. These guys got me a bike, showed me a route the distance I was looking for, pointing out some interesting neighborhoods on the way, installed Keo pedals, and threw in a pack of Cytomax on the house! Next time I travel to NO, I’m going to get a taxi straight to Michael’s and be set with my transportation needs the rest of the week! Oh, and they also recommended a really nice little dive bar(13) about a block up the road!

Just recently purchased a used Schwinn Sierra at a great price. The bike is a perfect fit and man does it ride fast and smooth. Michael and his staff were great at fitting me with the best bike I could afford. They also have a great selection of accessories and gear. No cheap stuff here all to quality, plus they do great repair work at a fair price especially considering that he is in the quarter. Always a popular stop for any cyclist in New Orleans local or otherwise.

On my ride from San Diego to Miami I made a stop here to get someone to take a look at the crank and on the bearings on my trailer. The crank was tightened and the bearings adjusted in about ten minutes. Total cost: 0 dollars. Explanation was that the owner had a special place in his heart for touring cyclists. This is the place you want to go to in New Orleans!

Snarky never sounded so sweet and oddly adorable. The boys of Bicycle Michaels are always terse but never in a way that isn’t charming, endearing and precious. I get my bike fixed here for two reasons: they’re fast and they’re no nonsense. PROS: — Knowledgeable staff make you feel comfortable leaving your precious transport for a few hours while it gets fixed. — A willingness to explain your bike and it’s quirks in laymen’s terms. — A great selection of EVERY range of bike from cruisers to road bikes to performance machines. — Dog! Yeah, they have a store dog and he’s adorable. I’ve named him«Spokes,» although I don’t think that’s his real name. He doesn’t care as long as you scratch his booty. — They let you use the restroom even though it is pretty obviously not for the general public… AND it was totally clean! CONS: — Not open Wednesdays!
