Vietnaam has the best steam moon spinach dumplings! Seriously! They taste like heaven! Normally we order in but this time decided to go and have the full experience. No reservation needed — big place with a lot of tables in and out. Service was really nice too. Quick and happy to help. We ordered spinach(!) and shrimp dumplings. They are delicious. The one with spinach are probably the best I ever had — and it didn’t chance since I first tried them there. We also got Nem — crispy spring rolls with pork, shrimps, taro served with nuoc cham sause — very good. As a main course we got Vietnaam Chicken Curry with eggplant, onions, peppers and coconut milk. We ordered white rice, got brown but it wasn’t big deal for us. Even though we shared this dish we took some home as portions are big. Wish it was a little bit more spicy but I just like spicy spicy food. Good deal! Vietnaam deserves 4,5 starts:)

This was really a special find trying to get out of the rain this past Sunday. I come from an authentic, dirty, and delectable Southeast Asian cuisine background. Like the real shit. And I thought this place was extremely pleasant and wonderful. I got the moon dumplings which were superb. Along with the hot and sour soup — quality! And finished up with their roasted pork and duck confit banh mi. I thought I could’ve gotten a little more from the banh mi and roasted pork. I was expecting a little more grease in the banh mi and was imagining roasted pulled pork or at least pork with skin! But overall I thought this was a gem~ I can’t wait to eat here again! Service was great!

Large and beautiful restaurant on the upper east side. Ordered phở and beef bun(vermicelli dish) — both were excellent! Moon dumplings were good — but took a little while getting used to as they were very authentic! Service was excellent and the prices reasonable. We love Vietnamese — would recommend this place — perhaps for take out also…

Multiple dining experiences, 0 disappointments. The Phở here is probably not as traditional as some people may be looking for, but that doesn’t take away from its hangover-curing, illness-combatting reputation. It helps to ask for more lime to add to the broth if you’re looking for a more sour, traditional vietnamese quality. The Banh Mi sandwiches here are really good! Get the Classic for a trifecta of crunchiness, tanginess and meatiness; the Roast Pork Shoulder Bun for a refreshing«salad»(good portion!) The service here is keen and polite — will be coming back for sure.

Easily one of the best, underrated restaurants on the Upper East Side. Maybe I don’t know the thick of authentic Vietnamese food, but what I do know is good food and their food tastes great. My partner and I stumbled in here late one Sunday night a few months ago and I’ve been obsessed since. Even though I’m on an abbreviated diet, I still choose Vietnaam for my cheat(and non-cheat) meals when I’m in Yorkville. Firstly, a moment to discuss the spicy fried fish banh mi… cod, spicy mayo, a hunk of cilantro and fresh veggies, on a shockingly fresh hero – wow. This may be one of my favorite sandwiches in the city based on freshness, accessibility, and price. Even when it’s delivered it maintains it’s crispiness. Secondly, on the topic of delivery, they once got my food to me in exactly 10 minutes from the time I placed the order. While it was unnerving to think they could prepare a meal that quickly, it was piping hot and fantastic as always. Other notable dishes include but are not limited to, beef bun xao, grilled shrimp vermicelli, and the delicious piping hot doughy morsels they coin ‘moon dumplings’(a mash-up between a dumpling and shumai). Make sure to try them all, even the bizarre taro flavor. If there’s a single complaint to be filed about this establishment is that they’ve yet to get on Seamless or any other online delivery service(they keep records in their system for repeat customers’ ease). Conclusively, this is another one of the fantastic businesses in this area that make me such a proud resident. A no-fuss attitude and memorable Vietnamese comfort food puts this restaurant at the top of my list.

I’ll be honest: I was a skeptic. After all, it’s some trendy«Vietnamese» place where you pay a lot more than you should for authentic banh mi and phở. However, I had to oblige when my friend insisted that we go and that I wouldn’t regret it. She was right. Came here on a Saturday for dinner, and while it was crowded, there were a few tables remaining for parties of two. Although my friend had not yet arrived, they seated me immediately since I told them that she was 5 minutes away. Filet of sole banh mi: my favorite of the night. The sandwich ingredients were well-balanced, with not one ingredient overpowering any others. I enjoyed the amount of spice in the sandwich: enough for a nice kick, but not enough to set my tongue on fire. The fish was crispy on the outside, but hot and tender on the inside. Shrimp and chive moon dumplings: really enjoyed this also. The skin was chewy but not too tough, and the shrimp and chive combination was very flavorful. Red beef curry: I liked this dish, but it didn’t exactly wow me. I could get a similar dish at any local Thai restaurant. The standout of this dish was the beef, which was very tender. Service was great. They filled our water without being asked(and I drink a lot of water!), food came out relatively quickly, and they split up our leftovers upon request. My friend also ordered some dishes to go for her visiting aunt at the end of our meal, and it came out quickly. I was still too much of a skeptic to try their phở. Would I dare try? Perhaps during my next visit.

I was hunting for an Asian restaurant in the vicinity, and came upon Vietnaam. I got a bowl of phở, and it was kind of bland. I typically finish my entire bowl of soup when I’m dining at Sao Mai in the East Village, but not here. I also got some of the chicken spring rolls, and those were really unwieldy, large batons for a spring roll. They were so wide they didn’t even fit into the sauce dishes. My boyfriend’s crispy shrimp dish was better. I have a feeling that this place may be better for American-Vietnamese-type dishes, like stir-fries.

Every time my fiancée would pass this place, we’d turn up our snobby noses and say«HUHUHUVIETNAAM with two A’s, bet it’s all modern and overpriced and PROBS doesn’t even COMPARE to Little Saigon and mom’s home cooking back in California! HOOOOAHHHHHHH» I’m exaggerating a bit. Maybe. But we were right about one thing, and that it’s modern. We were quite wrong about the rest. While I don’t know exactly why it has two A’s(pronunciation perhaps?), I have to say that they serve some real good food. We both had bun — she chose steak and I chose lemongrass pork shoulder. The meat was flavorful and importantly, juicy. If I had any complaint it would be that there were more noodles than meat. But I took it to go, so the serving size was more than enough. Going back, we could even, dare I say, share. Stand-out was the fried tofu appetizer! It was so good I could order it by itself. We decided to hold off on finishing it as we wanted to put some in our bun… this was a difficult task. However, if you can fight the urge to eat it all at once, please, do so and put it with your bun as it greatly enhances it. Tiny gripe with the egg rolls as the skin was too thick(thus, it tasted okay) and we had to purchase lettuce on the side. Glad that Vietnaam is so close to us cause my fiancée is gonna crave Vietnamese food from time to time. Doubly glad that Vietnaam does it so well!

Am-AYYY-zing chicken moon dumplings, I mean, phenomenal!!! The veggie ones were good too, spinach not as good but fine still good. Got spicy phở, I think too much fish sauce because I didn’t really like it, but the lady gave me stir fry noodles totally for free!!! So cute!!! Also my roommate got it too and she loved it and she likes fish so that makes sense. Overall cool experience. Also they have really high quality napkins. Update: The noodles I got are really good too!!! I am picky about chicken and I got the chicken one and it tastes fresh and delicious. They also kept checking on me to make sure I liked it, great service

My new favorite Vietnames restaurant in NYC! I have tried couple of different meals from here and I enjoyed every single items so far! Their beef and lemongrass pork shoulder is great! Bun(vermicelli): Room temperature rice vermicelli with lettuce, cucumber, bean sprout, crush peanut, herb. I order this one when I feel I should eat salad but still want to have nice big portion of meat. Bun Xao: Stir fried soft rice vermicelli with vegetable, egg, crush peanuts. This is Vietnam version pad Thai? This is my go to meal when I am super hungry! Really generous portion!

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the city! I go here at least 4 times a month. Normally I dine in this restaurant with a large group of friends. Last time I visited, it was for my friend’s birthday. 6 of us dined with 6 orders of dishes in total. Normally I like to order Bunxao beef, chicken fried rice, Bo loc lac, pork shoulder, ginger shrimp, fried fish, and red Curry with chicken or duck. Their bun xao has perfectly fried noodles with sweet and sour yet nutty flavors. The peanut crunches give great sound of the note to the taste. I like to put beef for it.(personal taste) Fried whole fish is something to try if you are looking for exceptional visual experience. Their steak cubes are very juicy and flavorful. A must try for beef lovers. If you are looking for an appetizers, MUST try their spinach moon dumpling. They just wowz in your mouth.

It was Saturday around 1pm. The night before was spent with whiskey. All the whiskey. I went to bed early but I barely slept. I was upset with myself – for drinking too much, for getting older, for not eating food the night before. My friends and I roamed the UES, looking for a place to eat brunch. Each place we passed I said no to, and deep in my gut I knew why. Finally, I looked my hoping-to-boozy-brunch friends in the face and said the truth«I need asian food» We went to Vietnaam – it was our second time there. Thank god we did. It was delicious. I had the Bun Xao with vegetables and we shared vegetable spring rolls. I do not think I ever ate noodles so quickly – so delicious. Good pricing. Oh, and we got a bottle of wine which was decently priced($ 24). Good service. Definitely check it out if you want vietnamese style food and you are in the area.

So I went last night with 4 people. We ordered a lot of foods. Calamari– fried squid. Taste decent, nothing special. Phở– vietnamese rice noodle soup with beef. I put some chili & hoisin sauce. It is absolutely well seasoned. Good for this cold weather. Pork fried rice– its the usual fried rice & taste decent. Pork vermicelli– grilled pork with noodle, carrots & lettuce on the side. Actually this I love! It has a thin noodle & you mix everything & pour the sauce on the side that taste a little sweet. I always put hot sauce because I love spicy. Mix it well. Perfect! Compared to any other other vietnamese restaurant, this spot makes it better. So I’m suggesting this food. Beef steak cube– steak cube with salad on the side & that sweet sauce. This one is good. If you don’t wanna get dissapointed & try new flavors, to be safe get this dish. It taste like any other asian type of steak meat that any asian restaurant have. Basil beef– beef with broccoli & cucumber. Have you tried beef basil noodle from any thai restaurant? If yes, then it taste semilar. I’m pretty sure it has oyster sauce. This dish is safe to order too. The usual asian taste. Porkchop– it taste a little sweet & juicy. Its really tasty! For drinks we got vietnamese Iced coffee, lemonade & tea. Their iced coffee is big! I love it! Go get yours! ;) All in all I like the place, its big, cozy, very clean & food is great! The only thing is its pricey for a vietnamese restaurant. We paid $ 145 with tips. This is my first time to pay that much for a vietnamese food. Maybe because of the location? I think so. But still its a great dinner on a freezing thursday night! ;)

It’s rare for me to find an Asian place that doesn’t have a giant«NOSUBSTITUTIONS» on the menu. Phở ga is my favorite Vietnamese dish and this spot doesn’t traditionally serve their phở with chicken so I am thankful to them for allowing me to skip on the raw beef. I’m pretty sure I’ve already bored my boyfriend with my dinner suggestions because this place is always first on my mind. The iced coffee is delicious and not too sweet. The curry is delicious too and the service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is also super clean and they use the good chopsticks, not the awful ones that give you splinters. It’s the little things, you know. If you are cold this winter, drop in here for a delicious warm up!

My fav phở spot in Manhattan! This is THE place to be. Sorry Chinatown, but there is just something about the phở broth that’s perfectly balanced, slightly herbally, and not overly salty nor watered down. It never fails to hit the spot. It’s my saving grace when I’m feeling under the weather and in dire need of some Asian girl comfort food(read: brothy noodle soups) without having to get out of bed. Their Phở is on point and menu is exceptionally organized. If you order out, it comes in a soup bowl, making it so much easier to eat out of than a regular quart sized take out container. Seriously makes a difference to me. Nam(Viet spring rolls) are delish too, and I almost never complete my order without adding the peanut mochi dessert! Banh-mi– many places are only good at one thing: either phở or banh-mi, but rarely both. Vietnaam does both exceptionally well. They’re amazingly authentic with everything they make. I have yet to find something on the menu that I didn’t enjoy. It’s a fav amongst my colleagues at work too. If there is anything to criticize, it’ll be that they do not have an online ordering system and you have to call it in. Really not a big deal though because everyone I’ve spoken to on the phone has been extraordinarily competent. I’ve never had a missing item from my order and I’ve paid via credit card over the phone too. Dining-in: love it. It manages to be spacious and airy while being cozy enough for good conversation. Energy of the place is very calm and tranquil for a peaceful evening out. Delivery: quick and food is always piping hot when it arrives. Don’t think I can ever get sick of this place! Lol

I’m sure many NYC foodies out there remember the late, great Saigon Grill(RIP). While I never agreed with their foul business practices, their food was undeniably fantastic. It was a sentiment shared by many. Vietnaam is the closest we will get to a reincarnation of Saigon Grill. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Saigon Grill, it’s sort of like Vietnamese-Chinese fusion aimed at a western customer base. So it really bothers me that so many of my fellow Unilocalers disapprove Vietnaam for not being authentic. News flash, if you were looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine you should probably avoid the Upper East Side. The atmosphere is very clean and modern. In the daytime, their many windows invite natural brightness to light up the entire dining room. In the evenings, the place is kept dimly lit to allow for a more romantic and intimate setting. The waitstaff is usually friendly and attentive, but sometimes a little slow– even disappearing for extended periods of time. It’s certainly not a deal breaker, however it is worth pointing out. I’ve had several dishes here, none of them being Phở. In fact, I refuse to eat Phở here. Maybe it’s good, maybe it isn’t. Either way, I don’t recognize Vietnaam as an authentic Vietnamese restaurant, so I will not order the national dish of Vietnam at this establishment. Some of the absolute stand outs at Vietnaam are: Lemongrass Grilled Pork Chops, arguably Vietnaam’s best dish. The pork chops are thin by western standards, but thicker than most Vietnamese restaurants you’ll find Queens or Chinatown. The simple grilled meat dish is an overwhelming sensory experience. The pork chops come out with perfect grill marks and a beautiful gloss from the marinade and the meat’s natural juices. My mouth waters just looking at my old pictures of it. Perfectly executed, moist and tender with deep layered flavors. Vibrant, fragrant lemongrass greets the palate at the beginning of each bite, sweet and savory from the marinade, and an undeniably distinctive smokey finish from the grill. Bo Luc Lac is another favorite of mine. It’s tender steak cubes marinated in teriyaki, and cooked over high heat. I’ve had Bo Luc Lac many times before, and I will admit the use of teriyaki is not the most authentic preparation for the dish. However, ultimately all I’m looking for is a nice seer on the edges, and flavorful tender meat throughout. This is achieved by a popular cooking technique in Vietnam that requires shaking the beef in a wok over a high flame. So the technique is authentic, it’s just a more modern-fusion form of preparation when flavoring the meat. Fine by me, it’s delicious.(Admittedly a little pricey.) Ginger Duck is perhaps my least favorite entrée I’ve tried here. It’s boneless duck sautéed with an array of vegetables including asparagus and broccoli, even shiitake mushrooms. This is a very western-Chinese dish, which I have absolutely no problem with. It just seemed very average and subdued next to everything else. The vegetables were fresh, with a good crunch to them but not undercooked. The duck was also cooked well. Also, my mother in law loved it so that’s a plus. Some of the appetizers I tried were: Fried Calamari: They were light, crispy, tender, and fresh. The sweet chili lime sauce they serve it with is excellent. Nem(fried spring rolls): I do actually find these spiritually very close to authentic Vietnamese Cha giò. Ground pork and shrimp, with taro, jicama, tree mushroom, and glass noodle. Fried perfectly. I love the addition of taro here, it adds a bit of sweetness and a slight creamy starchiness. The contrast plays well with the julienned vegetables, grounds meats, and crispy wrapper(they use tofu skin instead of traditional rice paper by way). And as always, the nuoc cham is killer here. And lastly the Fillet of Sole Bahn Mi: The fish cooked perfectly. Crispy exterior even after being topped, sandwiched, and brought to my table. Fish was flakey, tender, not dry at all. The tandem with the perfect baguette, pickled vegetables, fresh herbs, and spicy mayo is a delightful synergistic combination. I think Vietnaam is actually a sleeper for some of the best Bahn Mi’s in the city. Especially if you’re going outside of the box from your typical Pâté, Headcheese, and Cha lua combo. Having only tried one, how can I say that about the rest of their sandwiches? It’s simple, they get the foundation right. Bread: Perfect baguette, crusty outside, pillow soft inside. Pickled vegetables: Perfect, and Cilantro and herbs are fresh. The bottom line for Vietnaam is this. There is a time and place for stick to your roots authentic cuisine that transports you to another country. NYC is great for that, and there are many places that will gladly offer that to you. Vietnaam is not one of those places. But there is something that can be appreciated and even celebrated about a place that embraces outside cultures and influences to dish out some damn good food.

Great place to be at: Great food & great atmosphere. The nice thing about this place is that they have various choices of authentic Vietnamese food! It was absolutely an enjoyable dine in experience with my sister! Definitely recommend the bun xao beef noodle, shrimp moon dumpling, pork shoulder and chicken fried rice. Honestly, you can nver never go wrong in here

Solid phở for the UES. The portion was rather large, with a lot of hearty, meaty soup(yay!). Reasons why I would rather come here than to my favorite Viet places in Chinatown: — SOO much closer. I would save 40 min travel time. — Phở is rather good and I can’t even say if Chinatown places are better — Much cleaner, nicer atmosphere, no screaming and dirty streets — Condiments such as hoisin, sriracha, and jalapenos are out on every table instead of brought out in little plates. I love munching on the jalapenos while waiting for my food :) This place always seems to be packed too, but since they have a bunch of tables I don’t think there’s usually a wait at all.
