Great place. Love the drink specials. Must go for happy hour oysters which were great. Had spicy maki sampler which was so good and great price!

I haven’t tried their sushi but I love the vegetable curry. Also, very pleasant atmosphere and great, and I mean GREAT, service. My weekly stop.

Absolute favorite sushi spot on the Upper East Side. If you have the chance to dine in the restaurant, I’d defintely suggest it. There is a nice ambiance(including a waterfall along one side of the restaurant) despite being located right on busy 2nd Ave. If you’re like every other New Yorker and super busy, ordering delivery is a great choice! The service is always super quick — I’m consistently shocked at how fast they get to me. As for the food: it’s always fresh and delicious. I’ve never been disappointed by my meals. Yay Shoga!

My sister and I treated our Japanese mother to a weekend in NYC including dinner at Sushi Yasuda. Excellent sushi — the best we’ve had outside of Japan. Elegant, minimalist Japanese décor, superb service. We ordered«omakase» allowing chef to prepare what was freshest that day — definitely the way to go, included two small appetizer courses, sushi and sashimi, although not cheap. Shared only one beer; bill was $ 371 for the three of us. An exquisite, expensive treat… One we hope to repeat someday.

I am very sensitive to the quality of the fish and this place is always of the highest caliber. You will feel like you are eating much more expensive sushi. Sit at the sushi bar, the guys are very nice and very generous.

Came here with a group of friends twice ! The staff was attentive and provided us excellent service. We ordered the same dishes the two times we went because it is that good. We ordered pad thai, basil and pineapple fried rice, sushi and sashimi and rock shrimp tempura. Their sashimi and sushi is very fresh ! My favorite dish was definitely the pad thai and basil fried rice. Definitely recommend coming here for lunch and dinner if you are around the area.

I came here with a group of friends and we had a great time. The snow crab salad is amazing, the sushi is fresh, the shrimp tempura is delicious and the staff is very professional and polite. I will come back to this place for sure.

Do not go to Shoga. There’s another sushi restaurant five steps away, Ichiro, if you don’t want to go far for your sushi fix. Go to Ichiro. You’ll thank me. They don’t just have sushi rolls and sashimi. They also have pad thai, Sesame chicken, and lo mein. They are honestly all across the board with their menu. We ordered a salmon avocado roll, eel avocado roll, 88nd-and-2nd roll, and chicken pineapple fried rice. The chicken pineapple fried rice came out first. It was red in color, which is not its usual color. And with the first taste, I realized they had put in some ketchup into the fried rice. There was hardly any pineapple pieces, and if there were any, it was the size of a cut nail. To make up for the missing pineapple ingredient, they added raisins. The chicken was the worst part of it all. It was soft, rubbery shreds that tasted more like soy and fish. It was definitely not chicken. I hope it wasn’t rat or pigeon meat. We put all the ‘chicken meat’ to the side. Also, there was INTENSEDRILLINGANDNOISECOMINGFROMTHEKITCHEN. I don’t think it’s okay to fix, repair, or reconstruct a part of the restaurant, especially the kitchen, during open hours. I don’t know. You tell me. The sushi rolls came out. It looked fine. And I was honestly relieved, since the pineapple fried rice was such a bust. HOWEVER, HALFWAYTHROUGHTHEMEAL, A SLIMY, GOOEY, BLACKTHING(for the lack of a better word), FELLFROMTHEEELAVOCADOROLL. I uploaded a photo of the ‘black thing’. I highly recommend you go take a look at the photo right now. We called over the waitress, whose greasy hair was too long to be considered sanitary. Her hair kept hitting tabletops and our shoulders. She grabs it with her fingers, squishes it, and brings it into the kitchen. She comes back out, and insisted that it was a piece of the avocado pit. We asked her to bring out the avocado. She said that it was unsanitary to do so. She wanted to replace our eel avocado roll with a new one. We bargained. And told her we would pay for half of our bill. We wish we could have walked without paying a single penny. She quickly prints out the check. And rushes us out, worried that we’d make a bigger scene. We even left a $ 4 tip. We just wanted to get the hell out of there. STAYAWAY. DONOTGOTOSHOGA. YOUWILLNOTEATREALCHICKENMEAT. YOUWILLEATSUSHIWITHBUGS.

Dollar oysters, delicious. Sushi, bomb dot com Pad thai, amazing. Mai tai, we asked her to make it strong. And woo wee it was! We loved it. The host was our waitress as well as our bartender. She was doing it all! And quick and proficient at it and keeping a genuine smile on her face as she does. She was super woman! Definitely a must go to place if your near Central Park. Enjoy!

Everything was great, the service, ambiance. Its just that i ordered a katsu chicken but there was a bone in it. I never encountered a katsu with a bone. But the rest of the food was fine and delicious

Went there tonight with a party of 4. Great fresh sushi, nicely prepared and very fresh. Loved the spicy scallop /crystal roll! The service was good and responsive, and they helped make recommendations when asked. Good portions and reasonable price. The ambiance was nice too — not too cramped, with a laid back and fun vibe. We will be back!

Outstanding $ 1 oysters, delicious shrimp pad thai, excellent, polite and attentive service in a clean place with a nice, chill vibe. They had me when they played ‘In a Sentimental Mood’ and other quality jazz for lunch. Will be here again.

Average. The service was REALLY slow and they told us they had a lot of deliveries they needed to make… Which I would assume would come second to the customers in person. The $ 1 oysters are for a certain time slot we just missed– we did order a couple and they were good! Sushi was not bad, the spicy mayo is okay… Overall not badly priced, may try again and see if better experience!

Excellent execution on the rolls — ordered a flawless set of salmon avocado and tuna cucumber rolls! (The place was recommended to me by sushi expert colleagues, and didn’t disappoint!)

Shoga always has great sushi, which is why I’m a little surprised by their rating right now. I’ve had a lot of sushi on the UES, and Shoga’s fish is always very reliable. Other places can sometimes get fish that feels like they just defrosted it half an hour ago, but Shoga’s fish always tastes and feels very fresh. Even their maki rolls are mostly fish and very little rice, when usually for NYC restaurants of this price range it’s the other way around! They also have some creative rolls, which my boyfriend and I like a lot too. I noticed a few reviewers spoke about their customer service, but that hasn’t been my experience with the restaurant. It might be that there was one discourteous staff member before, but they’re certainly going out of their way to make everyone feel welcome now. Basically, this is my go-to sushi place on the UES.

Edit 3: This has been a rollercoaster ride of customer service that should not have happened in the first place. However, I was messaged by someone who claims to be the owner of this restaurant stating that the woman who treated me very rudely on the phone is no longer working here and that Rain G is not affiliated with the restaurant, although I still find her suspicious considering how she personally attacked me for leaving a one star review on some restaurant she’s supposedly not attached to. I appreciate the communication but the one star is staying as it is based on the experience I had, which was a one star experience. No more edits! Edit 2: The same staff member who harassed me for leaving a poor review just posted her own 5 star review of her own restaurant! Look at Rain G’s review, look at her pictures. She’s related to the business, left a not even 2 line long review with a 5 star rating as a reaction to the recent 1 star ratings, and she personally harassed me for leaving a bad review. How shady is that? She can’t even take the extra 2 minutes to be less conspicuous about leaving a review from a different account, which she didn’t HARASS me on. This restaurant is even lazy about cheating the system. Speaks volumes for how much effort they put into their actual work, and how much faith they have in their own food and service. Edit: One of the staff members here just sent me a message calling me picky for leaving a 1 star review! Ha! Being picky for expecting being treated like a human, okay Shoga. Terrible customer service when I ordered through seamless. I got confirmation that they received my order at 11:34AM on the app AND by text, also stating that my food would arrive between 12:15 and 12:25PM and it has been over one hour since my order was«in the works» so I called their restaurant saying, «Hi I placed an order an hour ago through seamless and was wondering when my food will arrive?» I gave the woman on the phone my phone number and she said«I got your order at 11:50, not even one hour.» I said, «Well I placed my order at 11:30 — 11:40 and got a confirmation text at that time saying you got my order.» She said, «Well I got it at 11:50. ONE-ONE-FIVE-ZERO. It is on it’s way.» Um okay lady I heard you the first two times, I just wanted to know why it was taking so long because I, the customer, am entitled to receiving the food that I paid for in the timeframe I was told it would arrive? I don’t think getting what I paid for on time is being unreasonable, and doesn’t call for an attitude when I’m calling to check where it is. I don’t care if your food is amazing or crap, either way I am never ordering from here again due to this rude customer service after I called wondering where my food was.
