Changed name to Tillman’s Select after a renovation and as of a few weeks ago they closed. Let’s see how the Phoenix rises from the ashes at this location.

I went there last Friday for the first time. Got there around 11:00 and it was soooo crowded. No where for me to perch but had a great time! I haven’t had the food but based on the reviews I will next time.

Really cool place. The ambiance is great… Dark lighting, cozy booths and good music. Great place for a date. Pours were really generous and food was delicious. We had the Mac and Cheese and the onion soup grilled cheese. Amazing! Definitely coming back!

Came here on a Monday evening with two friends. Pretty empty. Friendly vibe and a classy atmosphere. Drinks were strong, mac and cheese was very good. Would come back, though I’m not a big drinker.

Came here randomly last Friday while hanging out with a pal in Manhattan. Definitely dug the vibe of this place. The décor of the bar and lounge area is swanky. I was told Tillman’s had recently been remodeled so it looks nice. The waitresses were friendly, service was exceptional, and there were some guys in the place that were easy on the eyes. The music was awesome and is what really got me into staying longer. One of the bartenders told me last Friday was their soft opening and the grand opening will be this Friday. So I will have to check it out to see more of what this place has to offer and update my review.

This place is interesting. It’s not my usual scene but once I heard about a grilled cheese sandwich menu, I was sold. There are a lot of booths here so it’s a cool place to go on a date. When I came here, there was a couple sucking face at the booth across from us, so the date definitely worked out for them. It’s dimly lit and there’s pretty loud hip hop music, at least on the night I was there. Got the chicken sandwich and the French onion soup grilled cheese. I highy recommend the latter, especially if you’re like me and love gruyère. It’s an interesting concept: you dip the grilled cheese into the French onion soups that accompanies it. The chicken sandwich was good but not amazing.

If you are looking for a spot where you want to feel exclusive, but in a public setting… TILLMAN’S is your spot. It meets all the needs of your entertainment — music, atmosphere, cocktails and appetizers. Reminds me of the clubs and spots that I used to see on TV — dim lit room, great music, people with different styles, conversation and libations! Definitely my new Cheers! — U can call me Norm!

Yesterday/this morning was my second time coming to this place and I was disappointed. Me and a friend decided to stop in to have a drink and the place was semi full. It was primarily couples and there were zero cuties in the house. The place has been remodeled and it looks ok. The music was on point which seems to be their only selling point, We were seated immediately upon arrival and asked for the drink menu only to be informed that there wasn’t one. Sigh. I ordered a cosmo and when the bill arrived I saw that it cost $ 15. $ 15 for a freaking cosmo? Never again. This was my second and last time going to this place.

No need for a long, drawn out review here. Went here to catch a few drinks and a bite to eat. The drinks were very mediocre but the chicken sandwich they have was incredible! The service was also good as well. Our server was patient and attentive. I would maybe go back here to grab that chicken sandwich again but not for drinks. Also be advised that their food menu is probably the smallest you’ve ever seen. I want to say there are 5 or 6 items on the menu but I could be wrong it might be less. Yeah, that small. The layout could best be described as a bottle. The very beginning is very small and narrow and then it opens up to a wider space in the back area.

No cards? Fail. Apart from that; good — friendly staff, quick service and decent priced cocktails.

Smooooth vibe. Easy on the eyes and the ears. very cool staff who have a good grip on NYC and their jobs. Think mid to late 1970’s MoTown and soul, and you’ll know what to expect. Go often, but first time writing a review. I only go during the week so it may be different on weekends.

SUPERFRIENDLYSTAFF! :D Had a non-alcohol drink($ 6! + tax), the lemon one. it was very bitter! :X but to the bartenders credit, he offered to make me another drink. Drinks are pricey. Very unique sorta bar. Think it’s the sorta place you sit back and talk with your friends/date, not the type of place you’d come to party or get drunk. + for no credit card limit

I definitely dig the ambiance here. It’s perfect for a 1st date if you just want to converse over some drinks in a dimly lit loungy type atmosphere. The service is on point. Waitress was attentive and friendly. As for food, well the menu is quite limited. the waitress suggested the Classic Grilled Cheese sandwich. I tried it and wasn’t too impressed. But it’s a cool spot! I enjoyed it.

Great vibe. Think grown and sexy, which is great on one end, but can also tend to attract people who want to let you know how«cool they are». Aside from that, absolutely delicious food– ok I only eat the chicken sandwich that comes with this great(possibly) sweet potato chip and is served with some type of chipotle sauce and yummy cheese when I come, but it’s amazing! Friends who have ordered other things also have great opinions of the food served here. They always seem to have a DJ spinning soulful classics. The drinks are not inexpensive here. Expect to drop $ 15 per drink. The bar area is also pretty tight so come early to lock down your quarters if hanging at the bar is your style. There are tables in the back for dining and they somtimes move a few out for some dancing the night away. I really like this place. I’ve been back many times and will continue to come here. Just won’t head here on a budget night or when I just want a lowkey night without heels and a well thought out outfit.

I’ve come here a couple of random friday nights w/friends. Each friday feeling a bit different. So different that I can only say this place is decent. The sandwiches are pretty good… grilled cheese or patty melt can suck up the alcohol nicely. And that’s if you can get your drink. Each time I’ve been here its taking me a while to get my expensive semi– decent drink. The crowd is sometimes young brown professionals w/a couple of vanilla sprinkles, which is pretty nice. Or its the crowd thats over 40… which is not my cup of tea. Why did i go back more than once? B/c i really wanted to like this place, but between the drink prices & the inconsistent crowd I wouldn’t choose this as my 1st choice on a friday night get together.

This place is a chameleon. On any given night, it can vary from a slick and hip bar with«all the beautiful people», to a sticky floor dive, that has been commandeered by a small group of people, dancing to their own DJ in the back of the long hall. Had some light soup in here one cold night, and was seated in a nice corner booth. Not crowded. Soup comes in a tumbler glass. Nothing special. Decent and pleasant service. Another late evening, and had some drinks at the bar. It was kind of dead. Yet another night, a buddy I were content to stand in the doorway, and have a beer and chill with the 70’s music that was spinning with the wall to wall people. Overall this place is slick, if you catch it on the right night.

Tillman’s is situated in a very unsuspecting place with a very discrete entrance. We went here on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The dimly light entry way had wall-paper covered in shades of brown and beige. The incense greeted us along with the heat on full blast. The Bar area was half full, but we opted to sit in the back area in a booth. I ordered the Tillman’s Classic Grilled American Grilled Cheese in a Pullman white loaf, with American cheese, basil herb, mayo and fresh basil served with San Marzano Tomato Soup and fried potato chips for $ 13. I thought I was hungry, but I could not eat all of it. I liked the grilled cheese sandwich, but it was not as amazing as I thought it would be. I am a fan of grilled cheese, but hearing the buzz about this place made me look for something extra-special. I am not doubting the place, because it is definitely a go to spot for after work Happy hour, or just a nice place to hang out, so the grill cheese does not make them loose too many points. A plus was their Bathroom. I always judge an establishment by how clean they can keep their public restrooms. Sometimes I try not go after I have had a really good experience because I don’t want to have anything bad to say, but the bathroom is a pretty good gage for me. So in light of me saying that, the old oak wood staircase added a nice charm leading downstairs and the images of I believe Lesley Bernard with her Afro gracing the wall paper was artistic. Their bathroom was immaculate and I was very impressed.

My four star review just got kicked down to three stars. Picture getting a $ 40 gift certificate to Macy’s. You buy a pair of shoes for $ 35 bucks, you’d think you have a little extra spending money right? I’ve been reading about this place for a long time. A nice jazz club close to Penn Station, Yeah baby! Jay-Z and Puff-Puff Daddy-P-Diddy come here for drinks and mac & cheez. This place just looks bad ass Superfly, like Huggy Bear is gonna walk in any second. Thru the powers that be, I get a $ 40 gift certificate to Tillman’s. Walking in, you pass thru a curtain and everything inside is dimly lit and cool. Jazz playing throughout the club. I’m feelin’ the vibe. I tell the host that I’m here for dinner and drinks and so he sits me in the back. Its 6:30 in NYC and I’m the only person here. I started with the $ 9 Gumbo. It was really good, but such a small portion? Then, my waitress comes out and she is just heavenly. What a knockout! She asks me what I would like to drink, I feel like Donkey in Shreck and she’s my Dragon girl. She’s over 6 feet tall, stunning. brr. back to Unilocalin. I order a drink and she tells me they are out of Amaretto. No biggie, I order something with Whiskey & Gin, strong!!! Then, I order a patty melt which was also the bomb. Everything is great and I’m loving this place. Then, the check comes. $ 35 and I owe them $ 3 in cash for tax? This dude gives me this jive ass math, well you have a 5 dollar credit but you really dont, yada yada yada. WTF! Hey, I am Mr. Lets Do it Again, no scams here! I’m from Brooklyn! I left $ 6 and my $ 40 gift card. See ya dragon girl!
