Mainly locals, older crowd. Cool pool table. Long expansive space. Exceptionally long bar area offers lots of seating. If you’re looking for a venue to create your own party, this would be a good spot, you have to bring the crowd yourself though.

It’s hard to find any fault with Dusk. A fun, relaxing bar for any occasion. It’s relatively easy to find the pool table open, unless you come late or on a weekend — and a game only costs 6 quarters in 2010. The ambience is just about my ideal: dark, quiet and cozy. The beer selection is nothing to get excited about, but the prices are awesome for NYC, especially for mixed drinks. You can come here to kick back with your pals and not worry about emptying your wallet after 1 – 2 drinks, which is a huge relief. The bartenders are very friendly and it’s easy to get their attention. Monday is karaōke night, whether that’s a plus or a minus. I’m not a big fan, but the crowd at the bar is gentle enough to singers and they don’t make you wait forever while the same 2 people go up song after song because they know the bartender, as happens at some other places.

Cash only bar, no food. Decent prices for happy hour, which warrants the 3rd star.

Like that this bar isn’t well known. Love that its by the F train & it’s on 24th St. Like the décor and the atmosphere. Very chill & mature crowd. Just enough ppl in the place not to feel crowded or overwhelmed. Bartender was nice. The cosmo I had? I’ve had better but it definately wasn’t bad. Enough alcohol to satisfy and not put me into a stupor.

OK, they don’t have wood, and they do have music… BUT, they have a pool table, an extremely friendly and mixed(racially and age-ily) clientele. One of the few non-gay bars in the area, it’s got a lot of broken mirrors on the walls, a few couches and tables and a long bar. The pool table seems to be the focus of the place, but I spent the whole evening without playing once. They have a decent beer selection and a huge notebook of take-out menus for the calling. Beware though, some places are pretty far and some others have a pretty hefty minimum. All-in-all though, dusk is a fine place to hang out after dusk. Not loud, no pressure, just drink, talk, and play pool. –Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers

It’s always a mellow good time at Dusk. This is my friend’s neighborhood dive bar, although I have to say, it’s a little too nice to be coined as a dive bar. I’ll call it, «the spot» I love it because it’s one of the very few bars that are never packed so it always feel like«your bar». Points. Two pool tables in front with a mirror mosaic along the walls, and a jukebox with all your classic modern rock hits. You don’t really need more than this. The bartenders are all amazing here and I always get into an «interesting» conversation with random strangers… Ari is my guy, he always takes care of me and makes us all feel like this place is our Cheers. Drink til dusk.

Dusk? More like dark! What on earth is up with it being so darn dark in here, especially the bathrooms? I know you are not always surrounded by hot people and you’d like to keep an air of mystery, but seriously? I almost hurt myself because I couldn’t see the sink in the bathroom. That’s not hot, it’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. One extra star for the cool mirror wall, which reflects what little light there is in the place, and for turning on Jax’s appearance on America’s Next Top Model. Oh, and I guess kudos for having Absolut Kurant and serving me the smallest drink I have seen in a while. No extra star for that.

The mirrored walls here and old school metal ceiling is very trendy, and the seating felt very much like I was in a club. There was no coat check, and coats were piled in places, but it was still a fun night out. I enjoyed a nicely made margarita, and some frosty coronas that hit the spot. bartender was attentive to our needs as well after he thought we were crazy for taking to long to figure out how we wanted our margaritas prepared at first. Extra star awarded to the bar sized pool table, which I got to play before it go too crowded. music was in the realm of B-52s to Pearl Jam

This is the closest thing to a dive bar you will get in this area, and thus a perfectly convenient spot to catch happy hour and friends if you happen to be in the neighborhood. If you’re lucky, the bartender will be a Philly sports fan, and there’s always some sort of shot special to keep this bar in its place. cheers!

I attended a party here last night. There seemed to be plenty of lounge type seating up front to accommodate a large group like ours, so this worked out for us. They have a happy hour special that runs from 6−9pm where well drinks are $ 5 each, cosmos are $ 6 each, and bad American beer is $ 4 each. I stuck with the well drinks. The music was diverse but largely late 90s «alternative» hit parade. They have a lone pool table up front, but not really enough space to accommodate it, so you will inevitably be in the way of a pool stick at some point if you are standing up front. The bar is advertising their new 32″ flat screen HDTV for sporting events, but, I don’t know, that seems kind of small to me. I felt bad for them. The men’s bathroom has a 1-way mirror that allows you to look out to the bar. That seemed disturbing. The bar itself is in a long narrow rectangular space and has beautiful tin lined ceilings. Holiday lights were strewn about the walls for a festive flare. In short, nothing standout or remarkable about the place except maybe the ceiling. That was a nice ceiling. I’ll give them an extra half star for that ceiling. 2.5 stars

I should have gotten a cosmo… but I digress. Dusk is a cute bar and spacious with lots of room to plop your butt down and have a seat. I went for a friend’s holiday party and we had a pretty nice sized crowd. I believe she may have reserved the space we had. The happy hour extends until 9p.m. and includes $ 4 bottles of Bud and Coors, well drinks are $ 5 and cosmos are $ 6. The drinks come in kind of a small glass though and wasn’t the strongest. We stopped at three each and decided to just head out early and grab a bottle of wine with dinner. No biggie, was an all right place to get out of the bitter cold and socialize with friends but, nothing really stood out for me about this place at all.

I’ve been to Dusk a few times over the course of a few years. Always late, after my waiter friends get off work. Always with those same two friends looking for a chill place to have a drink, talk about the day, and share some laughs. Though these evenings have always need on the weekend, Dusk has always been about 80% empty(delightful!) leaving us ample room to choose between bar, banquet or pool table locations. Bartenders have always been friendly. Bathrooms, though dark, are clean. Drinks, inexpensive. Woot woot! I love.

It’s about a 3.6 or so for me — just enough to put it over the dividing line. What’s to like: — the décor is fun especially the mosaic, the two way mirrors in the bathroom and the lounge seating around the pool table — eh, the pool table that is right up front — the drink selection is above average — it’s off the beaten path(which I like) — this stretch of 24th street is not where those not in the know come. I think that brings a certain type of person and therefore I’ve had a good time with those there. What is lacking: — the last few times I’ve come in the male bartender has been kinda aloof. Not an ass or anything — just no smile or good feeling about him. — on the wrong night it can be a ghost town. I’m talkin’ crickets. — a better happy hour. In sum — a solid option in that part of town.

On a Saturday night this lounge was nearly dead for lack of patrons when our group of five entered we wondered why. Low and behold we soon found out the reason. The bar tender is extremely abrasive and inattentive while the five of us sat in front of him. Four of the five of our party order Cosmopolitan which the bar tender nearly forget my order. As I was last to be served, the bar tender yanked the napkin where my glass sat which was filled to the rim spilling ¼ of my drink. After the bar tender served my drink I never touched my Cosmo which he yanked the napkin from underneath to spill it. The dude has no common sense! The bar tender tried to compensate for it by making another who is a total and complete klutz by dropping the cap to the mix shaker and didn’t clean it. His curt attitude said it all which after our one drinks we all left to go elsewhere for dinner. There is one pool table. The décor is modern where mirrors are in a mosaic art. I do not recommend this lounge for a get together due to bad service and the drinks are just average. There is karaōke between 9pm to 11pm. Happy Hour is limited to $ 6.00 Cosmos; $ 4.00 beer; and $ 6.00 well drinks.

D to the F. Walk. Walk some more; turn the corner. Voila… Met a friend here on my visit home; he says he likes to come here after work some days… It was a Friday a week ago; he had some huge beer in a can from Finland @ $ 7 or $ 8 bucks a pop; I had 3 Stoli Raz’ &7-Up. Got the huge White Take out binder and ordered in; I got spaghetti & meatsauce, he got Eggplant Parmesan. Once the food arrived and we started eating people kept coming over asking what we were eating and where could they order from. It’s pretty cool place if you school/work near here or live in the area. There’s no overhead signage so just look for the sandwich board outside… My 2nd time here in 2 years; it’s coo’. P. S. Check the«I luv Unilocal» sticker in the front window.

I can’t believe I still haven’t reviewed Dusk. Has it been this long, Unilocal?I guess it has. As far as Chelsea bars go, this one is tops for me(not counting Karaōke One7, but that’s karaōke and therefore unto a category in itself). Granted, I don’t know a whole lot of bars in the neighborhood and the area doesn’t really cater to straight girls as much as, um, other demographics(and my roommate still hasn’t taken me gay bar/club-hopping like he PROMISED; hmph). Dusk is a great place to know about in the area. A little off the beaten path, relaxed, decent jukebox, great happy hour, and super-cool bartenders who give you free rounds and rarely make you wait to be served. I recommend going there on Tuesdays for Napkin Idol. It’s like American Idol for doodles on cocktail napkins. I can’t draw worth a damn, and even I got second place in Napkin Idol(my prize was an extended happy hour). It’s a good place to to live out your biggest napkin doodle star dreams or to go on a casual date or random happy hour or girls-night-out-for-your-friend-who-got-her-heart-broken-by-some-dude-who-OBVIOUSLY-is-brain-damaged-not-to-realize-how-awesome-she-is(hypothetically speaking, of course). Plus, the walls are a mosaic of broken mirrors, which gives me all kinds of impractical-and-possibly-dangerous decorative ideas. So go! Drink! Date! Doodle! Cheer up your broken-hearted pals!

I only upgraded the review because of the $ 16 dollar beer. I forget the name, its like, Chamays or something like that, but not only is it HUGE it is friggin DELICIOUS, and now I am drizunk. Thank you, Dusk, very much.

Karaōke that’s not(1) Not in K-Town(2) not crawling with douchebags(*ahem* IZU *ahem*) and(3) not costing me an arm and two legs is a concept that is beyond me in New York City. Leave it to my karaōke queen friend to find a place that exceeds all of these stipulations, across the board. It took me a while to understand how the karaōke thing worked. But now that I know, I can tell you that there is a book titled«American Idle» floating around the place. There are no numbers to memorize. You look to see if they have your song. Write it on the white square slip. Hand it to the guy sitting at the end of the bar in front of the laptop. Wait to hear your name. Go up on the little stage. Belt your heart out. Heard some impressive singers in this place. I’m certainly planning on going back on Monday nights since I go to school across the street. My version of Aretha’s «Respect» brought the house down. And well, I just love the spotlight so I was eating it up when Phil came up to me to tell me that he thought they had turned on the CD. The ultimate compliment! Now that I know how it all goes down, this’ll be a great stress reliever when the semester starts. The bar itself is just as return-worthy. The patrons were kind. And the bar is long with lots of bar stools. There’s a pool table and plushy couches line the walls in front. The bartender learned my name, wasn’t a jerk, and he stayed sober. We love that. Monday night at Dusk, SIGNMEUP!

As far as happy hour specials go, this place is a solid place to booze at dusk. The space is divided into two parts, the entrance area has three large lounging areas so if you have a group it’s nice to stake your claim. The second part is the long bar that seems like an endless extension so it’s unlikely you’ll have issues squeezing through to place an order. The jukebox cranks out 80s and 90s classics, though at $ 0.50 a crack you’d better really like Journey. The HH drinks are $ 4 for buds, well drinks, the usual… served up by a surly dude that seemed pretty unhappy with life. The lady bartender was a sweetheart though and when she took over our group seemed to loosen up… er, maybe that’s when I switched to vodka sodas… damn. I wouldn’t call this place upscale and I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. We had a great time though and I’ll definitely be back since it’s so close to work!

It’s a nice low key place, that doesn’t mind that you eat McDonalds while sipping a dirty martini. Very good drink specials– for example a cosmo and a gimlet is $ 9. Oh and the drinks, the bartenders are EXTREMELY generous with their alcohol. One drink may contain enough«juice» for three. Pool table, obligatory juke box, the place’s vibe is a cross between a nice lounge and a dive(price wise). Nice mixed crowd of straights and gays. And a very good place to get a bunch of people together to drink and gossip.
