Terrible food and service. Don’t ever go here! They messed up our order and gave us cold food. When we tried to explain that our food was cold, the staff argued with us about it. On the top of that, they misled us and tried to make us pay double the amount of the bill they originally gave us. Go somewhere else!!!

THANKYOUCROMPTON! Lets talk about customer service. I sent a few bars in my neighbor a message about a Friday night birthday party. 12 – 15 people, just some drinks and food after work etc. Can we reserve some tables so we can all be seated together? *crickets* no response. EXCEPT my girl Trina at Crompton. «of course Tara! Bring balloons, come early… WHATEVER you need». Super cute bar, good food, great staff… good Friday night crowd. Just an awesome place, ran by awesome people.

Service was super slow, took forever to get drinks. Food was hot. Got the beef sliders, it was mediocre.

I don’t think I would pick this place to come to on my own volition. But, if you got a large group in tow and need a centrally located place for drinks and food, then this place will get the job done. We had a going away party here for a colleague and we were able to occupy a small section near the front of this restaurant/bar. At one point, our party had about 10 people or so. This place does have happy hour from 6−7pm and selected beers are $ 5. That’s a pretty good deal. What I didn’t like about this place was that the hostess did not have any interest in helping me secure more chairs for our party. She suggested we just wait for the lone diner to leave and then take his chair and table(I felt bad for that guy). And besides not helping me, she also made sure to tell me that our party was not ordering from the waitress(many people in our party came straggling in after work and we all were in dire need of a beverage and the waitress was no where to be found). I guess customer service no longer exists… sigh. In any case, this place was bland, not much character, but it got the job done and we sent off our colleague in good spirits and our piggy banks not completely destroyed…

Solid happy hour, great craft beer selection and great food. Good TVs too. It can get cramped and a bit loud sometimes but that’s Manhattan for ya. I go there once or twice a week after work. Solid spot!

Last night, I went to this restaurant to have a dinner with a friend and my partner. The place was packed! We like to support a local business. However, at $ 14 a martini, I would like a nice solid drink! When we asked our waitress about filling the glass more than half way(I assume they measure out shots), she assured me she would rectify the situation. We would have paid for the extra shot, but she didn’t even suggest that option. However, once we saw our drinks on the bar, I could see our blonde waitress poor water out of the bar gun into a separate glass. She caught my eye, and then turned her back to me and our entire table. She proceeded to take the glass, move our martinis behind her, and I could see her pouring the water glass into something. She then turned around and moved our martinis back onto her tray. Ten seconds later, she delivered them. And yes, they tasted like water! Did she help add to our martinis, yes. But all she did was water them down. That’s some pretty pathetic customer service. Even though we live on the street, we will not be visiting there to have water with a side of vodka. That waitress should have up sold, and not water down. We spent 168.00 on dinner. This mistake won’t happen again!

My husband and I decided to give this place a try as we work on the same street, glad we did. The food was great. We ordered the chicken panini, fish and chips and Crompton beer. All was yum! The bread from the panini was delicious which can really make the difference for any sandwich and the fries were perfectly cooked, I like them small, shoestring type. My reason for 4 stars is the service. The waiter was okay, but never came by after the food was delivered to ask how everything was or if we needed anything. When we asked the manager about the portion of fish and chips, his response was«Oh its a standard size» with a bit of an attitude. Um, that doesn’t really answer the question. It was a legitimate question since it was under«large plates». Anyways, good food, nice atmosphere. I’m sure we will come back for the beer and apps.

A friend of ours picked the Crompton Ale House for our New Year’s Eve dinner. Upon arriving, I had high hopes. The space is lovely. Dark wood, cool atmosphere, big nice long bar. Very pretty. I especially loved the one wall lined with old books. It made this former English major feel right at home. I think I even spotted some titles I’ve read at some point in my life. And here is where I have to offer a split review. The food was very good. The service was not. Food: My husband ordered a salad and the mac and cheese. I ordered the sliders. Our friends ordered a steak frites and another salad. All food was excellent. I appreciated that our waitress asked me how I wanted my sliders cooked, and they came out perfectly cooked medium as I had requested. My husband’s mac and cheese was everything you want in a mac and cheese. And the couple of fries we snagged from my friend’s plate were deliciously perfect. We also ordered the apple crumble dessert, which was a bit heavy on the sugar, even for sweet tooth me, but still very nice and tasty. Beer-wise, the menu offered decent options. We all found something to make us happy without too much difficulty. But we did think that the variety was a bit on the light side for a place that calls itself an Ale House. Maybe we are just spoiled when it comes to beer places. Service: Well I think our waitress tried. But the service was pretty poor. It took a long time between visits to the table. She did not know enough about the beer selection(especially for a beer loving crew like us). She had trouble remembering the couple of beers on for happy hour, and once she served us a beer we had not ordered… my friend had been discussing two beers with her and ordered one, but she brought the other mistakenly. And I noted that she did not try to upsell us very hard. I am quite sure we would have had at least another round of beers if she had been more prompt about circling back with us and delivering the beers we ordered. We were confused since it was not very crowded at the time, so it wasn’t that she was overwhelmed. Maybe she was new or having an off night. I don’t know. But we’ll call it lackluster at best. So split it down the middle, three stars.

Really nice space, always clean and decorated for the appropriate holidays. Great staff, but we encountered a service issue when we had booked a business group of 15 people and was assigned one single waitress. We didn’t have time to order desserts because they took too long with the entrees(no appetizers, no drinks = 90 minutes to take the order and for us to finish our meals). Food is great, prices are in line with this area(expensive, but welcome to Midtown, Manhattan), beer list is great, space is clean and lovely. Service is good, just be sure to request a second server if you’re booking a group so the person who coordinates that knows it takes more than one person to handle a larger group.

An unassuming storefront brings a delightful pub much bigger and nicer expected with a neighborhood feel. Long bar, middle shared tables, and private tables along the side and rear — providing a little something for everyone. All the expected drafts, but the menu has a few featured things that’s worthy of a buzz. Burgers, ribs, shepherds pie, a steak sandwich, mussels, hummus trio, shishito peppers, roasted brussel sprouts, and deviled eggs. Mmmmm mmmm! I got the Reuben(pastrami, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, 1000 island dressing) — served on marbled rye, I ate it up faster than a Porsche goes from 0 to 60.(4.0 stars) With a pint of Guinness, I was high flying watching games and having a blast with my mates. Staff was very friendly and efficient. All good!

A friendly staff and service team was setting up for a private event(starting about an hour after I arrived), but I sat at the bar with about 4 – 5 others. I was waiting for someone somewhere else, and they don’t serve food and I came to Compoton for some hot-wings and a beer. I ordered the Buffalo wings, and a bottle of beer. The wings came out warm(I could immediately hold and put them in my mouth), and were not very«hot» or spicy. Quite disappointing since I was hungry. The beer was fine(it was bottled — I was offered a glass but declined). The kicker is that I spent the night in the bathroom being ill/sick. Not proven to be the wings, but I had nothing else, besides two bottled beers elsewhere. Pre-tip was $ 18 and I tipped $ 3.50. Definitely not worth $ 18 for a happy-hour beer and bad wings.

These folks are just great. My leather jacket was accidentally taken by a departing patron, and the owners found the incident on video and sent an email to the group that the person was there with. Two days later the manager called to say that the patron had responded to the email, and I got the jacket back! Thank you, thank you, Trish and Jimmy for doing what you could to help, and to the conscientious patron who made a mistake and then corrected it. There are still honest people out there(ok, they were tourists visiting the city, but still)!

My friend and I decided to try this place out when we needed a bite to eat before her train. The restaurant caught my eye after seeing a sign for a brunch menu. They had a good selection of brunch cocktails and I ordered a Bellini($ 10) while my friend ordered on of their nonalcoholic drinks($ 5). Both our drinks were great but it took a while for us to get them. Normally I wouldn’t really mind but we were in a rush to make sure she made her train, and there was no one else in the restaurant so I don’t know why it took so long for the bartender to make a couple drinks. For my main course I ordered the«hangover burger.» It was $ 15 so not a bad deal especially in midtown. On the menu it said it was a burger with a fried egg, avocado and bacon. However, it didn’t have avocado or bacon :/I didn’t care that much about the bacon but I was kind of disappointed I didn’t get avocado. My friend ordered the skillet which was $ 14 and also missing the mushrooms that the menu said would be with her home fries. We would have complained but we’re in a rush so we just ate it. Our food was pretty good, but I’m not sure why they don’t know the dishes on their menu. I wouldn’t mind having a burger that was missing promised ingredients, but they should at least tell me they’re out of avocado or bacon. Overall, the restaurant is nice and clean with tons of TVs if you want to watch a game. It’s also conveniently located near Penn Station. I think the restaurant is relatively new so maybe it will be better when they learn what’s on their menu.

I probably come here way too much… but when it comes to a bar, whats too much? lol Definitely has one of the best bartenders in town — Danny! Such great service and he even has me hooked on Guiness!(never liked dark beer before, and guiness is as dark as they come). Everytime i come in, he is smiling and very welcoming to myself and other surrounding guests. I just recently tried the burger on their late night bar menu — and it was phenomenal! The fries were perfect also. I will always come back!

whelmed — — — — I I was underwhelmed. Maybe it’s because they are new but everything was just a notch below mediocre in my book. First off, let me say that the place is gorgeous! I love the design… all the books and gears and vaguely steampunky things are very cool. It has a nice layout and I like having the sinks outside the bathroom. Whoever designed it did a phenomenal job! Also, service was friendly and somewhat efficient. It wasn’t crowded on the Wednesday night we went so I was happy with our server. The first thing that put me off is that I ordered the Schofferhofer Grapefruit and it said $ 8. Okay, that’s a little high, esp with no happy hour, but I know at least three places I can go in Manhattan and get 16 ounces of for $ 8 so I was willing to pony up for a refreshing beer on a hot day. However, when I got the beer, it was in a .3 liter glass. It was filled up over the .3l line so maybe, if I’m being generous, there were almost 12 oz in the glass. They should really print the size of the pours on the menu so you can tell beforehand if you’re getting ripped off and I felt that way in this case. The Bronx Pale Ale I got for $ 7 was a pint, so that was fine. The beer menu is okay but nothing out of the ordinary. We ordered some food. Started with the deviled eggs. The menu described them as if they might have a little kick to them, but they were just bland and a bit soggy. Not awful, just immediately forgettable. Then we ordered meals… a burger(medium), fish and chips and mac & cheese. My friend who had the fish and chips didn’t even finish them. They were overly greasy and made him feel sick as he ate them. My burger came out well done and thus was very dry. There was no distinctive flavor that would make me say«oh, this is a good burger». It tasted like something my sister would make. The tomato on the burger was very good and I did like the fries. My other friend’s mac & cheese was good, so that was the highlight of the meal. I was torn between a 3 and a 2 rating but I couldn’t justify saying it was A-OK because it really wasn’t. They need to step up the game if they want to be competitive in this neighborhood. I walked by Flatiron Hall and Ainsworth on my way there and they were packed. This place was half empty. You don’t stay in business that long without customer but I think with improvements, they could survive for awhile.

Another Irish bar added to the area. Crompton Ale is very well positioned to take over the bar scene since its not in the same strip of street that tall other ones are. No longer we have to content with the same crowd over and over. This new Joint so far has delivered a nice ambiance, vibe that attracts you. Dark /dimmed lighting, great beer selection and great whiskey alternatives are plenty. Drink specials $ 14 each are in par with surrounding bars. Lunch prices are high for a wrap $ 12 but its to e expected due to the other higher end restaurants in the area. So far during lunch it sits empty so its a great time to bring your office mates for a large gathering. Its new so no biggie.

Finding a new sign/façade across from my hotel saying«Crompton Ale House» staring right at me, why would I not check it out? Once inside, I found a great new venue for drinks and bar eats, and I was glad I dropped in here. Walking in, I was politely greeted and seated. I dig the atmosphere… a feeling of mixing the old and rustic with the modern. I love the bookshelves along the side filled with old books and items, along with the design of the bar with the woodwork as well as the layout… sort of like a enlarged study or sitting room. It is a bit dark but hey, it’s a bar. Plenty of space and seating, it was not claustrophobic at all. It’s a bit upscale for a bar but not one that you would feel you have to dress up for to enjoy. I felt perfectly fine with jeans and polo shirt, as were most of the patrons that night. There are plenty of TVs to enjoy sporting events as well, so it would be a great place to hang out with a group. Great music played overhead, it is a bit loud but hey, again, it’s a bar. My server was good, she was attentive but we did have some difficulties due to the music volume(nothing you would not expect at a bar). They have a reasonable list of draft beers and ciders, bottled beers, and wine to choose from that should satisfy anyone’s tastes. They also have a signature cocktail menu and of special interest a old fashioned/whiskey menu that is pretty sizeable. For food, I was there late enough that I ordered from the late night bar menu. I had the Hummus Trio(«picante sweet pea & wild garlic, ‘everything spice’, white bean beet tahini») which was pretty tasty and also the Crompton’s Own Burger which was spot on, good burger. A great night out! Bottom line: I am a fan of the new Crompton Ale House. A unique bar atmosphere with plenty of character, however it can be a bit loud and dark as a bar can be. Good list of beers/wine as well as cocktails and old fashioned/whiskey choices. The bar food is thumbs up. I say try these guys out!

Where to begin… the venue is adorable and centrally located in the city for a good midpoint to meet friends. We went on a Friday night as Happy Hour was about to end with the Ranger game starting and was able to get a table and request to sit by the open window… winning! With 2 minutes to spare we were able to take advantage of the happy hour deals. It is the little things like this that makes your visit to a restaurant worthwhile and wanting to come back. We all enjoyed the Crompton Ale and raved about every sip. Then for dinner we split(3 girls) the mac & cheese, the finger-lickings, and sliders. Everything was to die for… especially the mac & cheese, cooked to perfection with the perfect blend of cheeses. I think I truck into the city just for this meal and the ale!
