I have been visiting NYC for 20 years since I moved from there to LA. I visit at least twice a year to see my brother and stay in hotels. Now that I discovered the Out Hotel. I really don’t want to stay anywhere else. The staff Vanessa, Bibi, Paul, Terrance, Angie, Steve and others are so kind, caring, and helpful. The rooms are great and the BEDSARETHEBESTEVER! When I brought my cat, they couldn’t have been nicer and when I had to be away they made sure she was fed, had music in the room and was comfortable. When I returned six months later, right away they all asked, «How is Sasha? my cat.» I felt really at home. Plus, I had just published my book last Xmas. I was showing them all and they were so encouraging and supportive. It made me feel like I had kind friends around me. I am going back again, this time I maybe seeking to relocate and where do I want to be more than only the Out NYC as whatever I am going through, I know they give me more than a room they give me emotional support and gracious kindness as well and my kitty. Please give them a try. If you are like me, you’ll never go back. The location is GREAT too.

Needed a little weekend getaway and came to stay at the Out. Very nice place and great hot tubs. Just had a little issue with the air conditioning and television. Called front desk and Angel was sent to the room. He fixed both problems and explained thoroughly. way to go angel, thanks! Will definitely return!

I felt somewhat bait and switched here. I didn’t realize I signed up for a room in a hostel until I got there. I was upsold $ 100+ for a private room. The place was«trendy», in an early 2000s way, but clean.

My buddy paid for the stay and likes the hotel. The deluxe King is spacious with soft bedding; the HVAC is outstanding. Don’t get a room fronting 42nd or over the bar — I used earplugs and still heard the raucous. Open common spaces offer chill areas and whirlpool /gym are cool amenities. The dim lighting, low furnishings and massive mirrors could be sexy. But I’m 6’2″ — Give me night stands with drawers(for discrete items) and a bed off the floor.(for position options) Staff were very friendly. Good housekeeping. There are so many better stay choices in NYC. But if you crave the gay vibe, just insist on a room located opposite 42nd.

The Out was home away from home when I stayed in New York for a couple of days. Booked through AirBNB, they’ve made a seamless stay very pleasant from check-in to check-out. The room was perfect in size for someone that wants to go in and out of the room. It sports a responsive heater and AC, as well as a clean and spotless bathroom with hot water. When outside, the lounge area as well as the spa and jacuzzi area was open, calm, tranquil… perfect for a weekend stay for a local or a longer stay for a visitor. Work off the dollar pizzas with the gym and lift weights if you desire. Two blocks from the 42 St Port Authority Subway station, it is perfect proximity to anywhere in Manhattan!

3am. Loud music coming from somewhere. I call the front desk and say that someone has loud music on. They say that they’ll send someone to check. Fifteen minutes later and nothing has changed. I call again and I say that I’m still hearing it. They say that a security person checked and no guest has loud music on. «Maybe it’s coming from the night club.» They inform me that there’s a night club one floor below me. Thanks for having a night club and putting me above it.

DONOTSTAYHERE!!! This hotel should not have any stars at all. For a somewhat«classy» hotel, they do not make any accommodations to your stay. We booked a Deluxe King suite but need a double instead and we cannot get a refund or make any changes to our reservation. Most hotels will accommodate for you if you need a king or double instead. ALLRESERVATIONSARENONREFUNDABLE. They do not have any roll out beds so if something comes up and you need to make a change to your reservation, YOU’RESCREWD… Customer service is most important for any business and this hotel definitely does not have good customer service.

I like this hotel. I was very well treated, the price is fair. Great location right on Times square, easy access to the city if you prefer to walk. It is very clean, and the decoration is modern and great! It was a little noisy at night but hey! you are right on Times Square right? After 12pm it calmed down though. Great shower too! I recommend.

Seriously? A fucking nightclub underneath the hotel? Am I 20 years old? Do NOT stay here if you enjoy a quiet night’s sleep. This place looks great in photos but unless you are here to party, I would recommend another hotel. I stayed here Saturday and Sunday night and the LOUD music from the club downstairs was bumping until 2 am. both nights. I am by no means uptight. I just think that a quiet night’s sleep is a basic when it comes to a hotel.

The beds are old and extremely uncomfortable. I’m about to lose two nights prepaid and don’t care. That is how bad they are. If I wanted to sleep on a10 year old spring mattress, I’d stay at my great aunts house. also the room has only one chair and no closet. Would not recommend. I got this place because it was close to the Javits center, but sticking to midtown next time. I just learned my lesson. Thanks @theout you made me realize how crappy boutique could be. :(

I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. The hotel itself is well put together and some parts of it like the jacuzzi are really beautiful but there’s a lot about it that is not practical. First off, the way the rooms are numbered makes no sense. The electrical connections are all messed up. You have to turn the light on in order for the plugs to work or flip the lights to off and the switch to on in order to sleep with the light off and charge your phone. The shower is open and has no door so water gets everywhere. The gay club attached to it is a great space but the music is awful and the floor is so sticky that you have trouble walking a few steps. Also if you’re room is on that side of the hotel where the club is then the bass is bumping until 2−4am and even if the club shuts down late. If you’re playing your own music at 6am, you’ll be asked to turn yours down. The center of the whole hotel has a great open sky lounge area but you aren’t allowed to smoke there and have to trek outside of the hotel to just smoke a cigarette. There’s no ice machine you have to call for someone to bring ice to you.

I can’t stop talking about this hotel… Let me start by saying I’ve stayed in dozens of hotel around the world, so my standards are pretty high when it comes to hotels/motels, because I’ve stayed in ones that were really good, and ones that were really bad. THISHOTELISDEFINITELYTOPNOTCH! Everything from the SUPER clean room/bathroom, the customer service, and the overall ambience of the hotel. And the price!!! I booked the room at the last minute(2 days ahead) and only paid $ 107/night(stayed 2 nights). This is in the heart of Manhattan/Times Square! Unbelievable! Now you don’t get an actual view of TS, but it’s just a few short blocks away… My only complaint is that a) the gay club was closed the nights of our stay, and my best friend and I really wanted to drop in and have some fun, but that was no big deal b) all the rooms face the indoor courtyard(which is BEAUTIFUL, might i add) However, the courtyard is an open-air sitting area, and the night we stayed the temps. were in the 20s. Meaning our room was super cold & drafty, but the heat can be turned up as high as you want it, so that was really no big deal either. I also recommend stopping into the bar/restaurant in the lobby. Very pretty eatery. If you don’t feel like eating/drinking there, there are TONS of eateries, bars, restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and in Times Square as well. You really can’t go wrong with this place. I will definitely be staying here again and recommending to others.

Over-all it’s a great value. Prime location: walking distance to Times Square, public transportation, deli’s, etc. The staff is excellent! If you have an issue they will take care of it. The adjoining night club make it very difficult to actually sleep before two am. But it’s NY so we took that with a grain of salt. The room was neat, clean and spacious. While the bathroom looks cool, water does splatter because of the modern style shower. The gym was simple but efficient; although one treadmill had a belt that would skip(needed to be tightened). We would stay here again, but perhaps try to secure a room higher up. Oh the outdoor areas are unique and a great place to have breakfast as well as play some ping pong or corn hole.

No. I went here for«That Bachelorette Show» at 7 pm on a Friday and the bathroom looked like a construction zone. The bathrooms here are the worst I’ve seen in the city. The sinks were wrapped with black garbage bags, no working soap dispensers, little to no toilet paper in any of the stalls, broken doors, and bugs. Appalling especially for 7PM on a Friday night. The drinks were also way overpriced at $ 14 for a Whisky Ginger. Late night i’d understand these prices but at 7PM no way. The ginger ale in the drink was also flat. Just no.

The Out NYC is tailored for gay travelers but of course, everyone can stay here. The rooms are very modern and the bathrooms look like they have been renovated. There are no bathtubs(or at least not the room we stayed in) but the shower is nice and roomy. They have dim, romantic lighting in the rooms, so it seems like it’s geared more towards couples(especially since they have alcohol, condoms, and lube for sale in the rooms! A little weird, but I guess the Out really knows their clientele.) The hotel also has a couple of indoor jacuzzis, and a few bungalows(? — that’s probably not what they’re called) next to them, so you get a little bit of privacy while you’re relaxing. Located in Hell’s Kitchen, it’s close enough to Times Square, but far enough from the huge, annoying crowds. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby on 9th Avenue. So if you’re looking to explore NYC, the Out is a good option to stay at.

I’m giving them a good review but there were issues, but it wasn’t with the hotel. First, the hotel staff is *outstanding*. They were wonderful, funny, helpful and friendly. They are top notch. Housekeeping? Excellent. Seriously. I have never seen such great housekeeping in a New York City hotel other than the Marquis. Where to park? Use SpotHero and score yourself a better deal on parking. There’s several garages nearby and they range from $ 50 to $ 78 per day. I was impressed with the room as well. Considering where you are, these are really well designed rooms. Considering the price point, they are large for the price. The bed was excellent — and I am a raving insomniac. We had plenty of room, and the bathroom was excellent. So often, when you’re in a hotel in Times Square or HK that’s under $ 300 per night, you can pretty much expect a very cramped space that you can barely turn around in. This was surprisingly comfortable and attractive. We did appreciate the blinds over the window into the courtyard and perhaps, as an older couple, the younger people sitting in the courtyard appreciated not seeing us in our grandpa jones’s too! The courtyard space is clever. It may be a bit too clever for its own good, though. At 2 am, rowdy people and those who decided to call home to Asia decide it’s a great idea to hang out there having personal phone calls, conference calls, or discuss who’s on Grindr. As many rooms face the courtyard, you also learn the personal attributes of who’s on Grindr, and Ni hau ma! Tinaqi feichang re! W de jidiàn chōngmn tóngxìngliàn zhě(Hello? Yes. It’s very hot here and my hotel is full of homosexuals!) This can be entertaining. Not so much at 3 and 4 in the morning when you’re older and you’d like to sleep but you have«OHMYGODSHEISNOT24!» and BOOMBOOMBOOM from the adjoining club and«I CANBETHEREIN5MINUTES» It could be a little nicer and quieter if there were locking panels to close off the courtyard. It’s a nice idea, but it goes really wrong. I loved the spa. That was beyond question the best hamam style steamroom I have seen in 30 years. I had it all to myself, and yes — it is family friendly. Super clean(even by my refined German standards). An attendant checked frequently, which was very welcome and demonstrates the really excellent quality of this facility. I didn’t see a single towel on the floor or any waste. It was clean enough to take my German mother in law into. Would I stay again? Perhaps a suite if it’s much quieter. Concept and execution are excellent. Service and hospitality are well above any expectations that we had. The location is outstanding and convenient to everything.

I was a bit skeptical after reading all the reviews from noise complaints to items missing or being overcharged. It was too late to back out after booking through hotel tonight, but I’m extremely glad that I didn’t. I was a bit frazzled from running around after work and rushing through avenues so I can get ready in my room. I guess the hotel receptionist noticed and gave me a complimentary drink when I checked in. He was also very friendly. I stayed on the south end of the second floor and my room faced the hot tub room and the beautiful patio that had a waterfall fountain. I posted a picture as well so you are able to view. The room was pretty big as well as the bathroom. The bathroom was decorated so nicely and it was very clean(I’m a bit neurotic over a clean bathroom so this was very important to me). I’ve read some complaints about the tv in the rooms not working. Mine wasn’t either. We called the front desk. Two people came to fix it… Literally 5 minutes after we called. It was also on a Saturday that I checked in so I thought there would be a longer wait time. They informed us a lot of guests unplug a cord thinking its a camera(because strangely they had a big brother type bar cam channel to spy on the bar scene), but it’s not. It’s the censor for the remote. It was a quick and easy fix… Boom came on my personalized TV screen catered with my name and allowing me access to the web/email. The hotel was loud because it was a Saturday and it houses a club. There were vibrations in the room that you can clearly hear, but I stayed in plenty of hotels in the city. It could be a lot worse. You could hear the partying going on in the next room, people fighting in the other, waking up to massive construction noises… So I really didn’t mind, and guess what? Not a single noise or vibration for the rest of my stay which was on Sunday and Monday. I just thought it was strange because the thumping was clearly heard in the room, but not a single thing on the 1st floor where the lobby is. The other reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of a lady receptionist. She may even be a manager because I saw her come out of an office, but she had the worst people skills. She gave me an attitude answering the front desk phone. I was also checking out and gave me attitude yet again because the first guy to assist me didn’t know how to «check out» and had to call her over. She was annoyed and didn’t even look at me then said, «yeah. You are fine. Your room was prepaid» in such a demeaning tone. I mean clearly. The room is my room. I know this. I was dropping off the key? Have a good day? Thanks for the staying? That would have been nice because that’s what receptionists are supposed to do? Just answer questions and check you in/out… Anyways, the other downer was the room doesn’t come with a room service menu. We had to request one only to realize it was a menu for the restaurant that is attached to the hotel next door… But you still have to pay $ 3 for it to be delivered to your room. Why? You are literally walking 5 feet into an elevator. I paid $ 55 for dinner for two. It was a pasta dish and a chicken sandwich. I understand if the food was decent I wouldn’t care, but it was terribly bland. I was so disappointed.

Very hip and cute hotel located smack in the middle of Hell’s Kitchen. 10 min walking to the subway, another 10 min to get to Times Square and all the other tourist attractions. The inside is very clean and hip, and the rooms were also nicely decorated. There are 3 floors total, and each floor have rooms surrounding an indoor garden, patio, and jacuzzi. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel on the first floor in the lobby. 2 min walking distance to a 24/hour CVS. Overall, very convenient location that is comfortable as well. No smoking anywhere on grounds.

Kind of a mixed bag The good… The location is outside of Times Square insanity and has terrific access to restaurants and to pretty good transportation. The beds were really comfortable and no bed bugs. With the exception of one front desk clerk who acted very condescending, all of the employees that we encountered were friendly and professional. For the most part we weren’t disturbed by excessive noise from other guests or the night club. The bad… It took forever to get hot water to our sink/shower and the room heater was loud and irritating. The décor is modern and austere but in an Ikea kind of way. The room bordered on tired looking and the carpet had not been well vacuumed before we arrived. The hotel only uses liquid toiletries but we didn’t even have any soap until we asked for it. The sliding glass bathroom door does not allow for much privacy when using the facilities. Want a pen, notepad or ice? You won’t find them in or near your room. The Out portrays itself as a gay, straight-friendly urban resort. From my perspective, in the winter time it is rather difficult to identify the hotel in any terms related to one’s sexual preference. It is too cold to spend any time socializing in any of the outdoor spaces and since the rooms all open to the open air, there isn’t much loitering outside of the rooms. Were there a lot of gay guys around, my gaydar said yes, but I am sure that there are a lot of gays at the Marriott too. Urban resort? Not so much. Gay, straight-friendly? Haven’t we moved past this? 2.5 stars
