Terrible. We ordered food based on a recommendation. Wonton soup — brown insipid broth with 2 green leaves. The worst was the honey back ribs — stringy, dry and tasteless except for the cloying honey and sesame seeds. Next spicy shrimp in a bright orange sauce. Not good. Called the manager to complain and his response — plenty of people like the food. Now there are 2 less and perhaps you will agree. Btw — Thursday night at 8pm and no customers in the restaurant. That’s a big signal we missed due to hunger pangs.

Came in for late dinner. Delicious pork dumplings followed by giant shrimps in salt and spices, Szechuan style. All very good. As we were the last diners, sort of put the squeeze on to finish. On the other hand, when we hadn’t quite finished the 6 dumplings, held off on the shrimp. Would like to return. A little pricier than others in Midtown but guess you have to pay Upper East Side price for it.

Definitely not authentic Szechuan. Mostly filler ingredients(celery, bean sprouts, etc) in their dishes. Everything was cooked in old oil and nothing tasted fresh. I’m part Szechuan and have eaten real home cooked Szechuan food all my life and have also been to very authentic restaurants and this is definitely an oily bastardized version of it. At least delivery was quick.

Dan dan noodles are amazing. Scallion pancake is good. Love the spicy mung bean jello. Pretty authentic especially for the location, which is pretty unexpected. Not a big fan of the service here though.

Not sure if this is connected with the other one in midtown which I’ve been to a number of times. Haven’t been here yet but ordered some delivery on Seamless. The dan dan noodles are seriously tasty, definitely will be ordering that again. Also tried the general tso’s chicken which was fairly meh. Will definitely try this place again and update on other dishes.

If your looking for a very clean and efficient kitchen you have come to the right place. I had the traditional Wong Tong soup and Shrimp with Lobster sauce. Both were very delightful and met my expectations. I would recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a traditional Chinese experience.

Ordered stir fried eggplant with sweet & sour sauce and stir fried beef with scallion. First of all, these two dishes were way too oily and tasted like they soaked all ingredients with 3 cups of oil. And this wasn’t the worst because I found a STAPLEINTHEBEEF when I was chewing it!!! And I will not go there again…

This is about my fifth time back at this restaurant. I cannot get enough. The Szechuan pork wontons in roasted chili soy appetizer is amazing. So light and flavorful. Dan Dan noodles are the best. Dumplings are extremely tasty with very thin wrappings. I am obsessed with this restaurant. I’ve never had better Chinese food!!! I am almost glad that I don’t live in this neighborhood since I would be ordering in at least 5 nights a week.

This place s not for the suburban chicken-with-broccoli set. It serves delicious hardcore food that I’ve eaten in Chengdu. Do yourself a favor and try something different and you’ll be pleasantly surprised! The food here is great and authentic – and not everything is spicy. Delivery is quick, too(but I do prefer dining there).

Wow! The best Chinese food I’ve had in a long while. I’m so surprised to see such a low rating for this little diamond of a Restaraunt. Especially since it has a great Zagat rating. My wife and I had steamed dumplings for the appetizer which was scrumptious with the spicy soy sauce and sesame oil. Second part of the meal was seafood bisque with tofu. What a wonderful, robust tasting broth. And to cap our meal, we had crispy duck with garlic sauce which was phenomenal to say the least. This Restaraunt is a hidden gem and if you’re in the neighborhood, it is not to be missed.

I ordered a lunch through seamless, 1 dandan noodle and 1 pork dumpling. After 30 minutes, the restaurant called, and told me they are out of pork dumpling, and asked me to order something else. Then I decided to change it to pork jiaozi. The woman at the restaurant told me she will give me a free soda because she felt sorry And another 45 minutes passed, the delivery came. There is no free soda. even worse, they gave me veggie jiaozi instead of the pork one i ordered. it takes them almost 1.5 hours to get the food delivered. They not only delivered the wrong item, but also forget about my soda! What’s wrong with this place?!

(Review for only delivery) Guys. I watched the netflix documentary on General Tso’s chicken. And it made me want to have it asap. I got delivery of the sticky, spicy fried chicken – but it was neither spicy nor crispy. More like lanky and just sweet. I actually just wished I were back in my college days eating Panda Express sesame chicken. Scallion pancakes were too thin. Flavor was okay. Food meh. But tis a Chinese food desert here on the UES… and the fact that they deliver is good enough. Prices are UES expected. Go if you just watched the documentary and are too lazy to go to Queens like me.

When I moved to UES from EV/LES(land of Han Dynasty and Grand Sichuan), I thought my access to top-notch Sichuan food would evaporate. I was pretty bummed. Little did I know that this gem would be literally right down my street. I haven’t had anything bad here yet. Sichuan classics are all good. Dan Dan noodles were very decent. Cumin lamb filets were crispy and super cumin-y. Non-Sichuan dishes are great too. Pea shoots were tender and garlicky. Steamed whole fish with ginger and scallion was perfectly done, like the best Cantonese restaurants downtown. Granted, you will pay a premium at Szechuan Gourmet compared to places in Chinatown(probably $ 2-$ 7 across the board for entrees). But for tablecloths, art on the walls, good service, and being one of the only solid Sichuan UES places — it’s a small price to pay. I will say that a lot of bad reviews on Unilocal are coming from people who ordered General Tso’s Chicken, etc. I never tried any of those dishes(that’s what the Panda Expresses of the world are for), so I can’t really comment there. But if you order the right things(i.e. spicy things), you won’t be disappointed.

Some of the best Chinese food I’ve had. Sichuan delight. Dumplings are awesome. Cumin Lamb was moist and delicious. Top notch spot. Fast service a plus!

I am completely flummoxed by the 3 star rating of this scaffold-hidden gem. Went there last night with my aunt, who noted that even her Chinese friends visiting *from China* were in agreement that this place was the real deal. If you don’t like the food here, then… you simply aren’t a fan of Szechuan cuisine!(which is totally fine). I had the pork dumplings with chili soy, thinly sliced pork delicacy, General Tso’s chicken, and wonton soup. It was all so, so good. It was way better than that overrated trendy Szechuan place in the lower east side whose name escapes me at the moment, the one that used to offer beer to waiting patrons. You’d know it if you heard it. This place also doesn’t overdo it with those peppercorns that make your tongue tingle, and for one terrifying moment makes you think you’re having a stroke. If you’ve got a hankering for authentic spicy Chinese food that hasn’t been tempered for the Western palate, you should probably stop reading this and just get your Metrocard and go.

Very authentic Szechuan cuisine! I also went the the one near Bryant park. This one is bigger and nicer. Feels like a decent place to dine in. Waiter was rude though. We went there at 9pm and they warned us that they close at 10pm. They were very fast to bring everything on our table and can’t wait to kick us out… And the waiter stared at our receipts to see how much we tipped him…

E-Scale: 8⁄10 I live around the block from this place so I order and eat here often. My favorite is the Dan Dan noodles and the noodles with minced meat sauce. Very authentic and like home! The pork dumplings with the chili soy is also fantastic. Just from these 3 appetizers alone, one can eat at least 2 full meals. The entrees are pricey but I love the prawns in garlic sauce. Service here is good and they don’t charge me when I ask for extra rice. The best part is the dessert. The sticky rice balls with sesame paste is very authentic and delicious. Reminds me of home! This place is pricier than some chinese food places but you can’t beat the quality!

This is the best Szechuan, and probably the best Chinese food on the Upper East Side. We’ve been ordering from them for a while, always satisfied, and recently it’s gotten even better.(New chef?) The pork with baby eggplant lunch special is an incredible value – enough for 2 meals, and the garlic sauce is the best I’ve had. Plus their hot and sour soup is great.

Normally I don’t review delivery but this was so good I felt I had to. Ordered through GrubHub while staying at the Hotel Bentley and it was a fantastic Chinese meal. Started with the Honey Glazed Spare Ribs, enjoyed them but probably the weakest part of the meal. Good flavor but not that meaty and not a huge portion. Then I had the Shanghai Steamed Pork Buns(Soup Dumplings) which was not what I expected but were great. They were more like steamed dumplings than pork buns but they had fantastic flavor and did not even have to use the dumpling sauce(which I normally love). Finally, my main course was incredible, sliced chicken with baby eggplant. Huge portion, very tender eggplant(sometimes parts of it are hard) and the chicken seemed high quality. I can’t describe the sauce but it was great, I really enjoyed. Overall, fantastic delivery option.

I am obsessed with this place and it hurts my heart a little more everyday that I can’t go here(you have to go with a friend, honestly, it’s a really nice restaurant). I have the shrimp lo mein every single time because it’s literally the best shrimp lo mein I’ve ever tasted. This past week alone, I’ve gone for the lo mein about 3 times. It’s heavenly. I think I need an intervention. It costs about $ 8 for the shrimp lo mein. I’ve also had the broccoli over garlic sauce and that was amazing as well. Honestly, do yourselves a favor and stop wasting time at other restaurants. Eat here!!!
