Sorry no food photos with this meal. Sushi Choshi is located in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan. If you’re not from NYC you might want to use GPS. I hate to admit I had to do it find this location on E 19th Street and Irving Place. It’s a tiny restaurant great neighborhood sushi spot. Small sushi bar with a bunch of 2 and 4 tops. The staff is extremely friendly — they charged a dying cell phone for my group and one of the waiter was superbly cheeky! This is not an AYCE joint that I’ve grown to love in Reno. The meal: Edamame boiled salted soybean — basic starter goes great with sushi! Veggie Gyoza six pieces of pan-fried veggie dumplings — so good we had 2 orders. Sushi Dinner eight pieces of assorted sushi(nigiri) and a tuna roll.($ 19) The perfect amount of sushi. Excellent ratio of fish to rice. Cost: $ 29 including a beer it was great to have sushi and not over do it! I’m not sure if it was the company, the service or the food but it was a great time. If I’m back in that ‘hood and want sushi I’d try them again.

Pretty bummed that I spent money on the Unilocal delivery app for this restaurant. I ordered under«Chosi Spicy» sushi for crab, tuna, and salmon. This includes cucumber, scallion, spicy mayo, etc. what I got instead was just plain rolls. I thought — could this be a mistake? I checked the delivery menu. The only item called«crab roll» on the whole menu is the spicy crab roll. So I ordered a bunch of delicious spicy rolls and got plain rolls instead. :(Was really looking forward to these rolls. I asked for extra soy sauce too since I got so many rolls — they didn’t even do that. They sent me a couple packets of soy sauce for the whole order.

3 rolls and a piping hot miso soup at dinner for $ 17? You have my attention, Sushi Choshi. Very solid sushi on Irving Place. Apparently they have been around since the ‘80s, which seems like a pretty good run for any standard sushi restaurant in NYC. Our server was super attentive & my water was always filled to the brim(important when downing spicy rolls, y’all). Fairly priced, good service, and an overall good meal. Nice place to grab dinner before you head out to one of the other nighttime haunts in the area.

Choshi is around the corner from where I work and I’ve been eating there — once a month or so — for years. Staff is very friendly and the sushi is always great. The lunch special is a great deal — you can pay just as much(if not more) in a bad deli on the same items, but here the fish is fresh and prepared really nicely. In the summer, the outdoor tables are super pleasant.

Came here with a friend… would definitely come back again. We split a few rolls… got the spicy combo… we chose the spicy scallop(best dish of the night), spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail. All were fat, tasty rolls. Had the sashimi platter as well… all fish was fresh and delicious!

I come here regularly and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. The staff is always welcoming and attentive, the food beautifully laid out, and the acoustics such that even when it’s packed, you feel like it’s private and intimate.

There are two main things people worry about when choosing where to go for sushi: price and quality. Sushi Chosi is one of those places that respectively satisfies each criteria. Fresh fish, accomodating waitstaff, and fairly reasonable menu prices — especially for Gramercy Park! The ambiance of the resaurant isn’t the greatest, although there is a pleasant outdoor seating for the spring/summer months. Like many others, for the appetizer I go for the miso soup, which is a solid choice — hot and flavorful but nothing to go nuts over. As far as the rolls go, I was recently introduced to the salmon lovers roll which is delicious — fresh salmon and avocado topped with a spicy salmon and tempura flakes. Hands down get this if you’re craving salmon :). The standby spicy tuna is a great choice, too, but again, nothing to go nuts over. 3.5 stars

Ordered on Seamless with a wait time of 45 – 60 minutes, food was at my door in 25 minutes. The salmon salad is amazing. Very fresh fish and creamy avocado. The sesame dressing is delicious as well. The spicy tuna roll was delicious and so was the white tuna sushi. The spicy crab roll was average. Overall very happy with my food and I’ll be ordering from here again.

I’ve had lunch here a few times since I’m currently working in the neighborhood, and the sushi lunch special is as fresh as any of the top sushi restaurants in the City! I also love that it comes with both soup AND salad — nice not to have to choose between the 2. Service is with a smile. I highly recommend this restaurant.

So, this place looks like a small charming sushi place tucked in a sweet neighborhood in Irving Place. We decided to give it a try. If you’ve tried a few Japanese restaurants in Manhattan you’d be truly amazed at how this place is even in business. I love Japanese food and have tried many high end/low end places that serve sushis ranging from subliminal to meh. But man, this place takes the cake! Their salmon sashimi was cloudy because clearly it was catch of a week before. Spicy tuna sushi roll reeked of cod liver oil. Everything we ordered looked stale and disgusting. Even their water glasses smelt of fish! After having one bite of the sashimi, I immediately spat it out. We didn’t bother to ask them to replace these dishes or take it out of our bill because they have hired untrained staff who cannot communicate in English. I did tell them that this food was inedible and they just shrugged! Oh, and the bathrooms stink!

Small but cute sushi restaurant. Servers are nice and professionals. Food is great and good value. Ingredients seen fresh and quality is tested with the raw dishes. It’s my 3rd time and they seem to uphold their standard for quality and freshness. I’d go back again and recommend this place.

Quiet and full in lunch time. This is a real Japanese sushi bar. Different lunch specials, I liked the eel roll!

I’ve lived less than two blocks away for a couple of years now but never actually ate at this place, mainly because the low Unilocal!rating kept it off my periodic searches when looking to satisfy a sushi craving. Finally went in the other day and I really enjoyed it. They had very delicious Toro, and a wide selection of other high quality fish. I had a fried octopus appetizer which I also enjoyed although it was definitely a bit on the chewy side. It wasn’t crowded, the staff was friendly and the service was great. It’s a comfortable place and I felt like I definitely got my money’s worth. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in the mood for sushi.

Decent prices for the neighborhood. Got the sushi set for two people, it was an okay amount(for two females). Sat outside and it was relaxing on a mid-september evening. Nothing fancy or too romantic– if that’s what you’re looking for. Good spot for a casual lunch/dinner.

A decent lunch spot in the area for the standard rolls. The spicy scallop was pretty good. They have different specials each day so make sure you check that out if you live or work in the area — dine in only. Friday has a good sashimi deal that makes this place worth going to.

Pretty solid casual neighborhood joint for sushi. The prices are reasonable and the menu has something for everyone. I would never say this is a must visit or you are going to have your mind blown by the menu’s inventiveness. However, if you’re looking for a no frills sushi place without the bullshit and scene that characterizes so many sushi places in NYC, this is a good choice.

We ordered the ET roll and the Red Dragon, just as an appetizer while on a walk. The Red Dragon was fantastic. The ET was just OK. Wine and beer were pretty standard, and the service was mediocre at best. The savior was the cheap price. I’d rather pay more and be amazed, though

It was all right, but I would say it is a little below average than the average cheap sushi place, partially due to portion size. My mackeral roll was tasty, but the portion of fish was pretty small, even if it was fresh. On the other hand, the salmon roll was normal size, but had chopped fish instead of pieces, which I only expect in a spicy roll. I wouldn’t really recommend this place.

Decided to pop in here before heading to a concert at Irving Plaza. Staff was friendly, polite and attentive. We were in and out within 30 minutes and they checked in on us as needed(then again, the place was quiet). I got a few vegetarian rolls which came out really well and filled me right up. My date got a few spicy rolls(tuna & yellowtail) and liked them also. The only downfall is that the bathroom is all the way downstairs and between going up and down, I almost slammed into a few employees. Could’ve been disastrous.

3.5 stars to be exact. Came on a Monday around 6pm, the place was empty. A little alarming on top of the 3 star rating on Unilocal, but then I just thought, «maybe people haven’t gotten out of work yet.» I started off with some miso soup — it was good. Ordinary miso soup, just a little more flavored than most. For our food, We got the sushi dinner and dragon rolls, the sushi was fresh and and the rolls were good, the avocado on top was really fresh. Their medium dry sake was good too, but on the other hand, how could sake go wrong? No clue. For dessert, we had green tea mochi and the tempura ice cream with kiwi and red beans. The tempura ice cream is more than enough for two people, it was plenty and reaaaally good! I’d actually give this place 5 stars if only… (1)There were no flies in the restaurant — there were a couple buzzing around us and it was really annoying!(2)The waitress stopped hovering — she kept walking by our table and checking on us. So overall, I would come back. I just hope they take care of the fly situation. :)
