i grew up in nyc born and raised and I loved this location. I started going during high school with friends. Sure its seemed cheesy and kind of over priced for a themed resturants but its not. I could care less about what tourist want or where they herd to so generally you want to aviod them, but this place was an exception. It was a unique fun place amoung the endless standard selections in nyc. Sure you could find more refined food or a more adult environment but it was enough of both that made it work perfectly. As an adult new yorker i hope that generations of younger new yorkers get to enjoy its fun. I hear they have a new location and i wish them many years of sucess.

I’m giving it one star. We didn’t even stay because the stench was so appalling we became nauseous. Stay away in our opinion.

I’m not surprised by all the mixed reviews on here. I’ve been going to Jekyll & Hyde for nearly 7 years now, and last night was my first time visiting the new location. I’d only ever been to the old midtown, which is now closed. I was too young to understand the characters & atmosphere & too scared to do the secret entrance, but after seeing this new location, I can safely say I am a fan. Let it be known that in my spare time, I enjoy spooky things very much(especially the Disney Haunted Mansion), so it could’ve just been me. Before I go any further though, I must put this disclaimer though — THISIS A THEMERESTAURANT. So for those bitching about this restaurant not having good food, just stop — it’s meant to be a theme/atmospheric restaurant — NOTALWAYSWITHGREATFOOD. But enough ranting about my personal experiences with the old location and such, let’s jump into this newly improved location. Upon walking up there, I could feel my heartbeat rapidly speeding up. There’s 2 entrances — 1 that just goes straight into the restaurant, and another that’s FAR more cool — the secret entrance, the latter of which you enter through an old-style black telephone booth. The operator running it will tell you to turn this hand crank until an automated voice comes over the intercom, and then say some silly password(it varies, but in my case it was«Saber-Toothed Skulls»). Once you’ve said the password, another door inside the booth opens up to reveal a dimly-lit chamber — similarly styled after the Stretch Room scene in the Disney Haunted Mansion. In this sequence, several things happen, all of which I’ll only give a brief description of, for the sake of not boring the Unilocaler/tourist reading this review right about now. Anyhoo, so you enter the chamber, and mirrors surround you on 3 sides. Strobe lights inside the mirrors flash throughout the sequence to reveal skeletons inside the 2-sided mirrors. You are greeted by the voice of Dr. Jekyll & then the sequence begins. Throughout this, a series of creepy voices & the sounds of electricity surging within the light fixtures surround you with the use of a subtle yet amazing surround sound system. At one point, the ceiling starts to compress, while javelins stick out. At the end of the suspenseful yet uneventful sequence, you are ushered into another room where a talking animatronic of Dr. Jekyll himself greets you with a spiel & makes you promise not to tell any of the«secrets» within the restaurant. A 2-sided white marble bust also laughs evilly at the end of his spiel. You are then ushered out into the staircase through a door which looks like a bookshelf. You then proceed to ascend a staircase with pictures on all sides, with gothic-style english wallpaper. Once you’ve ascended it, you enter the main portion of the restaurant — and this is when the theme of the restaurant really starts to become noticeable. There’s 5 places where you can sit at; the Bar, the Rotunda, the Hall of Masks, the Balcony, & the surgical theater. All of which are unique & cool in their own ways. The Hall of masks, as the name suggests, has a wall with a collection of animatronic masks, as well as a 2-headed animatronic girl in the back. In the corner in between the steps to the rotunda & hall of masks, there’s also a table surrounded by a grey marble bust that speaks every now & then, and a disembodied head in a ball that comes down from the ceiling every so often(much like Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion). In the rotunda, there’s a shark head, and a diver comes out to talk every now & then. In the surgical theater, there’s a show about every hour, which is cool. 2 live actors usually do it. One plays the«doctor», the other plays the«patient», and they re-tell the story of Frankenstein. There’s also a giant elephant head, &2 skeletons that play music(one plays the violin, the other plays the pipe organ). The Balcony isn’t too special, it just overlooks the cooler surgical theater. It’s the kind of place where you need to come a few times in order to properly experience all the gags and effects and whatnot. So yeah, I’ve just walked you through the Jekyll & Hyde in Times Square. I would visit it, but be prepared to spend money for the theming, and only if you’re comfortable eating food that’s typical American food. Nothing overly special.

My husband convinced me to eat here. He thought it looked fun. It was hokey. We both giggled at the contrast between serious actors and the ones that half assed it. The food was forgettable. And expensive. The show was great, if you are 7 years old. Ok, maybe 5.

I have only had awesome times here. I once had my birthday party here as a kid but I think that particular time may have been the other location. The last time I was at this location though, was a few months ago, for the launch party for the upcoming(at the time) Annabelle film. It seemed as though this was something meant more for press but I was lucky enough to attend and it was a great time, held in a secret party room inside Jekyll and Hyde, that I had no idea existed. The entry way was through a bookcase and then inside, there were also bookcase entryways for the bathrooms. We got to meet and take pictures with the star of the film, take our pictures with the actual Annabelle doll, got some cool free bracelets that were supposed to ward off evil spirits, and there was also free food and an open bar. The scenery in there was great too. Oh and I also got to hang out with that guy, Alphacat from youtube, that makes all of those great Obama spoof videos because he was paid to fly out and attend. Another treat, was that I got to catch part of the actual dinner show in the main restaurant area on the way out. It was an awesome night!

Great fun if you are a tourist or want a fun dinner around Halloween time. The food is over priced and nothing out of the ordinary. It’s about the same as an Applebee’s, Friday’s or Chili’s. The experience was definitely something worth seeing though. I go every year before Halloween just because it sets me in a good light-hearted mood. The entertainment is truly bizarre and odd.(in a good way). The drinks are cool and the servers are funny. Definitely worth a trip. I recommend making a reservation because its in Times Square and gets very crowded.

This is, above all, a themed bar and one done very well. The drinks we had were really good(and strong), and the ambiance of the bar is pretty damned cool. I don’t want to do a spoiler on it, though I’m sure you can look up the details, but I will suggest you sit AT the bar on a barstool, and be sure to take a trip to the bathroom. Keep your eyes and ears open as there is plenty to observe over time as the place comes to life. Plan to spend a bit of time. I know they also have food, but I can’t speak to that. Definitely a fun place to have a drink and I’ll go back with other unsuspecting, and«uniformed» friends just for the laughs. Worth a visit!

Straight off the bat, I’m warning you this is for tourists only, or if you want to bring the kids somewhere fun. The food is super overpriced and I would have given the food itself only a 3. However, the experience as a whole was so entertaining that I’m giving the overall restaurant a 4. As far as the food, it’s equivalent imo to a Chili’s or TGI Friday’s. Mayyyyybbe a step above but no more. My husband got the steak sandwich and it was ok but kind of dry and came with no condiments. Fries included but they were just standard fries. I got the pasta with Cremona mushrooms. Their pasta was much better than the steak sandwich. Pasta was cooked Al dente and the sauce had good flavor. Nothing to write home about but it tasted good and I was satisfied. We also got the nacho appetizer and it was pretty good although people from home would give weird looks to the chili that was on them instead of just ground beef. So, food is a 3… decent but nothing special. Drinks…imo don’t bother with the restaurant specialty drinks. Get a alcoholic drink with a standard recipe and not one of the house concoctions. My husband got the zombie and I got the lucid dream and I really wanted to like them but they were both a strange blend of flavors that didn’t work. Also, they tasted uncomfortably of straight alcohol and while I would like my alcoholic drinks to have a good amount of alcohol in them, the best ones don’t really taste like they’re full of alcohol, ya know? Atmosphere…here is where the restaurant shined. If you like the macabre, if you like old horror movies, or if you’re just looking for something different, you’ll get it here. The décor and theme of the restaurant is on point. There’s so much to look at and enjoy that you’ll find yourself with your head constantly turning. They also have fun animatronics and little live action shows like the creation of Frankenstein which make you feel like you did dinner and a show all at once. TL:DR — if you want fun, yes! Great food? Not so much.

I love love the asian salad and fries. They taste amazing. I would go back for more. The entertainment is fun! It’s a must see and to do in New York. The entertainment is constant. The wait is not long. The staff are friendly. The prices are not bad because of the experience and taste.

Great fun if you’re a tourist. Food is so so — you go for the bizarre entertainment and odd atmosphere. The entertainers are great — they stay in character and keep coming back to the table to have some fun with the guests. Two people at our table got pizza and were happy with it — one person had wings and they were quite spicy; I had a salad with salmon on it. Salmon was overcooked and the greens were a little wilted but it wasn’t horrible. We shared fried pickles(they ran out of the coconut shrimp) and the mozzarella/tomato appetizers. Adult beverages were decent; dessert was meh. It’s really all about the weird stuff on the walls, the hidden restrooms and the entertaining folks wandering around. Like I said — fun for tourists.

poor service and even worse food. Our table and the 2 behind us all sent back food. I overheard our waiter continuously apologize to the 2 tables behind us and to us once. My friend sent his food back, but I didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes so I ate my overpriced pizza with the cardboard crust. Wasn’t very busy when we attended after the theatre was let out, but waited quite a few times for refills and to be checked on by by our server Julian. Beware they charge a $ 3 per person surcharge for«entertainment» which was pretty bad. Will not be back to the tourist trap. Visited ½/15

This place was great!!! The Bartendress«Hope» was fun and amazing. The show was so much fun and entertaining. We walked right in on a Monday night around 10pm. The drinks were a tad expensive at 14 $ a cocktail but I turned the other cheek as we were having so much fun! We didn’t eat so I can’t comment on the food. Drinks were strong and good tasting! If your on a budget move onward but if you don’t mind spending a lil for a great time come on in!!! The animatronics were a blast and a must see!!! Enjoy the bar chairs. Cheers!!!

I’m giving this place 2 stars because the décor was nice, and the staff was friendly. Aside from that, there was nothing really great about this restaurant. We got the truffle fries and hot wings as an appetizer. The fries were soggy, and not very tasty. The hot wings were still half frozen upon arrival. We returned them and got another order. These wings seemed to be cooked well, but still didn’t have a ton of flavor. I ordered the cheese tortellini with vodka sauce and sausage. This was the best part of the meal, but it did taste as if it had been microwaved hastily before coming to the table. Some bites were piping hot, and others were barely room temperature. At almost $ 20, this pasta was not worth it. My family got the chicken parmesan and a margarita pizza. I did not get to try the chicken parm, but they said it was«ok». This dish was $ 23. The pizza was terrible. The cheese was ok, there was hardly any sauce, and the crust was thin and flavorless. It was worse than a frozen pizza I could get at the store for $ 5. Overall we spent $ 150 on a mediocre meal in a city with some of the best food in the country. If you go here, do not have high expectations, negate chances are they will be crushed. The staff was very friendly and made the meal tolerable, but if you go to restaurants to enjoy the food and not the employees serving it to you, I would not recommend you go here.

I’m only giving Jekyll and Hyde one star because the of the beautiful décor and lighting. Aside from the fact that it is authentically pleasing this place is a nightmare. There is always a long wait outside to get in, if you want to avoid the rush come before dinner. After waiting to get in, the entrance to the place is through a phone booth. You walk in with a group and the small room goes dark and all you hear is creepy music with children singing. After like ten minutes of that you finally walk in and go up 2 flights of stairs and boom that’s the restaurant/bar. As I said the inside is really nice and you’ll be excited about that up until you get seated. There is children everyone and it is some annoying kids birthday every ten minutes and you have to list through obnoxious birthday singing. Also the entertainment is absolute shit. It’s some balding loser doing a lame act of the Frankenstein story. Maybe you’ll enjoy this«entertainment» if you are under 8 and at that age where everything is entertaining. When you get the menu you’ll notice that at the bottom they tell you that they add a $ 3 entertainment fee to your bill. The prices for food are ridiculous here. They know that since it is Jekyll and Hyde and in Times Square that they can get away with making the prices ridiculous. Simple food like a burger is $ 18 and classic pastas are like $ 25. If you’re from NYC you know that you can eat at really nice restaurant for that. Another thing that turned me off from this place is that the NYC health department gave Jekyll and Hyde a B rating and again if you are a local you know that means it’s pretty damn bad. In conclusion if you’re thinking of coming here DONT, it sucks and you’re in NYC there are a zillion better places you can go to.

This place is definitely a tourist location! My co worker wanted to go here for his birthday lunch so we made our way through time square to go there. We were a party of 5(they don’t take reservations) but we were immediately sat in the front lower section near the stage. The décor is great. I would describe it as an amercian horror story type theme. Gargoyles, talking characters, masks, skulls, Siamese twins. etc. They definitely nailed down the ambiance for what they were trying to go for. The food is nothing to write home about. But then again, people go there for the atmosphere/entertainment(FYI they automatically charge each person a $ 3 entertainment fee.) There was a «Doctor» walking around talking to patrons who did two performances in the 1.5 hours we were there. One of the performances was up at the top deck and was with an elephant man character and the other one was on a main stage with a Frankenstein character. Don’t go here if you’re looking for a quiet lunch. Every 15 minutes one of the hanging wall entertainments will light up and start talking… the elephant, gargoyle, and mask like thing talked during our lunch. Kids there seemed to really enjoy the entertainment. Although, if you’re not into that type of thing you will probably find it annoying… The conversation was interrupted the whole lunch. I ordered the cobb salad which was mediocre at best! It was just a regular cobb but the lettuce looked slightly wilted and the portion was rather small for $ 16. We also got avocado egg rolls and chicken wings(couldn’t take pics of those.) I’ve had avocado rolls that were better at the cheesecake factory, the ones here were kinda bland. I included photos of the meals my co workers got and they all said theirs were pretty good… maybe it was just my salad that wasn’t great. The steak sandwich looked bomb! Our service was good… our waitress came around several times to check up on us and fill up drinks. I would recommend this place to someone whose never been there before, it’s a fun experience with groups. Since I’ve been here once, and the prices are«time square» expensive, I probably wouldn’t go back.

As a New Yorker, I have mixed feelings about this tourist-trappy place in Times Square. You have some overpriced generic diner food on the menu, some over the top performers, gimmicks and aged animatronics, overpriced drinks and upsells at every opportunity(«Would you like to enter our haunted house for only x dollars?, you get $ 5 off with your meal»). Service is kinda slow because customers are always out of their seats looking around the restaurant, clogging up the aisles. Portion size is ridiculously large — Texas tourist large even. While I had a two-star experience I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how great of a time my 12-yr old brother had here. All the circus-like gimmicks, costumes, shows and comedic routines — albeit cheesy — were right up his alley. He loved the shows, laughed, engaged with the actors and waitstaff, and loved his food. Making my little brother happy makes me happy :) One thing we both really loved was the hidden passageways to the bathroom. There is a hidden door in the fireplace, and then 2 hidden doors behind bookcases where the bathrooms are tucked away. The place was clean, and spacious, and the staff was all friendly even if a bit on the silly side. I would definitely not come back here alone, on a date or with friends, but I would take my little brother or kids here any time.

Nooooooooo. if you are considering this place, turn yourself right around and go somewhere else. anywhere else. seriously. fast food would be a better choice! and beware the«entertainment fee»… we stopped in for lunch only because it was across from the theatre, and while cheesy for sure, we figured it couldn’t be too bad. oh how wrong we were. horrible food! really really horrible. the food: i got a burger, because really… how can you mess that up? trust me, it can be done, and they accomplished it. i barely managed to choke down half, and only because i was super hungry. weird tasting meat, and incredibly greasy. it came with no condiments, a sad slice of tomato, and a wilty piece of lettuce. my friend ordered the thai chicken wraps. they are ground, flavorless chicken. she said the texture was like eating sand. she also barely ate much of her food. if we’d had time to go somewhere else, we would have. the«entertainment»: not very entertaining. imagine chuck e cheese, but«scary.» it’s pretty lame. and it’s all over the place, so you can’t really see much. they do have a few people who come around to annoy people while they’re eating. we did our best to avoid eye contact, as we didn’t want to be stuck there any longer than necessary. service: oh it’s bad too. very very slow and unenthusiastic. perhaps they should dress the waiters as zombies… then at least their lack of speed would make sense. cost: you have got to be kidding me! they actually add an «entertainment fee» to the check. that part really was irritating. lousy food, some moving halloween decorations, and they want to charge admission without telling you!!! never ever again. no. no no no no no. just… no.

I ended up having a ton of fun here. I usually avoid Times Square but I was in the area for another event and this spot looked intriguing. Getting inside was pretty interesting. The man in the booth out front asked which door we wanted to go into. Naturally, we picked the more interesting looking one. When you go inside, you enter a dark room with mirrors that light up and the ceiling caves in on you. I wasn’t too scared because I knew the ceiling couldn’t go past the mandatory exit sign. THEN a spooky mad scientist-like actor came from behind one of the mirrors and brought us into another room with a fully electronic old man that told us a horror story. We really didn’t pay attention to what he said because we were trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Surprise, surprise, something spooky happened and a camera took our photo. We were then ushered up to the gift shop area where this picture could be purchased for $ 15. This here everyone is just getting into this place! When we finally got into the restaurant area, I really liked the setting. It was like being in the clue game house. One thing I liked, was while it is a restaurant you can have the option of sitting at a table, the bar or a comfy couch. Perfect for the tired tourist. There were lots of spooky decorations that would automatically talk to you. They weren’t just recordings, but actual actors talking through the mummy behind the bar and the shrunken heads. It was pretty funny when the cave man made fun of the couple making out! Speaking of the bar(where we sat), the chairs will mysteriously move up and down! They are suppose to be the ghosts. It was cool but it was annoying when you were so low that you couldn’t eat your food. The food itself was decent and everyone was happy with it. It’s a little overpriced but some things were more reasonable than others. The drinks were pretty fruity and sweet. The staff was all super nice and attentive. This place made for a unique experience and went beyond the typical Times Square BS. I would recommend it for anyone that once something unique and has a fun sense of humor.
