My husband and I order from here often. The food is wonderful, sauces have very well developed flavor. Eggplant appetizer is so amazing I often get it as my meal. Two things we aren’t crazy about: small menu as far as dinner goes, and consistency. Sometimes the 4 cheese gnocchi tastes AMAZING, sometimes, it has bacon/porcetta in it, which totally changes and masks the flavor. It’s a mystery everytime we order it, which is a bummer.

I love this place! The pastas are amazing, the sandwiches are great(and huge), and the service is always quick and friendly. It’s tiny(maybe 5 tables) so be ready for a possible wait, but it is definitely worth it. If you’re looking for great Italian on the UES in a casual setting, this is the place to go.

There is a good reason this place has 4.5 stars(5 in my book). The food is absolutely delicious and at a reasonable price. The antipasti, ricotta and honey with bread and all of the pastas are delicious, as are the Panini’s The red sauce is also top notch. So far every waiter/waitress we’ve had have been exceptional. The restaurant is small, so for a big group a reservation is probably needed. In the summer, the outside seating almost doubles capacity(which is normally about 20 people). I’ll definitely continue to go here and look forward to trying San Matteo(on 91 and 2 and also 81 and 2) which is owned by the same people.

Food was fantastic. Ordered Chicken Parmigiana, which was an absolutely monsters piece of delicious chicken breast. Loaded with sauce and cheese. Came with a side of pacherri noodles(wider rigatoni) Then had a Caesar salad, which was decent. Make sure to shake the dressing around in the container. For a little extra flavor, I added some balsamic vinegar I got in Rome, which made it taste incredible. Lastly has the Pasta Al Forno, which was a baked ziti with salami and little sausage balls. Very good. They also gave me a massive amount of bread, which is great to dip in the Caesar dressing and sauce.

Great little spot for pasta and sandwiches. Friendly, quick service with reasonable prices. A go-to for when I’m craving Italian food.

Average product and severely lacking in hospitality. Arrived well after my Eat24 pickup window to find my sandwich not ready, wine shelves to the gills, TV music videos, and a staffer singing. Huge kitchen crew prepping for the rush yet no one prepping the only patron’s only item. Small space with bright lights throughout, and a tight restroom poorly placed near the coat rack, which had no space left despite no customers. The Salumaio Special(Hot) Panini $ 11.95 was fine, but far from worth the price in terms of quality and quantity. (Prosciutto cotto with herbs, bel paese cream cheese and Sun dried pepper paste. Make it: with Focaccia Bread)

I love this little gem of a place! The prices are reasonable — definitely grab a bottle of wine. My friend got a dish with eggplant that she loved. I had the pasta al forno — so good! You will leave full! Try to sit outside when the weather permits. I plan on returning!

To no one’s surprise, the sister restaurant of the ever lovable San Matteo Pizzeria and Espresso bar is easily the best neighborhood spot for Italian take-out… My partner and I refuse to order Italian food – we grew up in Italian households amongst some of the best home cooking one could imagine and we patronize some fantastic restaurants in the five boroughs – there just seems to be no reason to have the stuff delivered to our door. That changed when a pal of mine crashed for the night and ordered off Seamless from Il Salumaio. We had an the four cheese gnocchi and a side of fresh ricotta with drizzles of truffle oil and honey aside oven baked bread… it was incredible(and as the saying goes, the rest was history). I was blown away by how fresh and flavorful their food was considering what they were charging and the simple fact that it was coming via delivery and not straight from a kitchen. Il Salimaio continued to impress on my second and third orders with the gnocchi sorrentino, prosciutto sandwich, and chicken parm panini. All highly enjoyable. In quick conclusion, if you’re out there wondering if it’s possible to get a real Italian meal without leaving your couch, on the UES it is. Thank you Il Salumaio, it seems as though I’ve been waiting a lifetime for your love…

This is high quality Italian on the UES. I only ordered take out here. The pasta and quite good, fresh and tasty. The sandwiches were also solid. It looks more like a café but don’t be fooled, it’s a stand out Italian restaurant. It also looked like they have a diverse and reasonably priced wine list. One of my favorite places in this neighborhood.

I always walk by Il Salumaio and it’s been one of those places where I always to try it out but never had. Well I finally got to try it because my friend wanted a panini. They have a great selection of paninis(and apps and pastas here). If I can tell you about our appetizer first… you MUST try their MOZZARELLA! The mozzarella caprese was probably one of THEBEST mozzarella I had so far in Manhattan! Wowwwww. This mozzarella was amaaaaazinggggg!!! I asked our waitress if it’s possible to buy the mozzarella balls separately. And you can! I’m definitely discontinuing my mozzarella purchases from Wholefoods and coming here!!! This appetizer was about $ 14. My friend ended up getting an eggplant parmigiano instead, but I got a panini called Fuorni-with roast pork, broccoli rabe and provolone. All paninins and subs give you the options of choosing the bread-hero, ciabatta and foccacia. We both chose the foccacia bread and loved the taste & texture. Crispy on the outside and chewy in the inside! This place apparently used to be a deli before, so I asked if they sold the bread separately too. sadly they do not :(My roast pork was not dripping down oil and therefore my bread stayed crispy and not soggy. This is a huge plus for me. i don’t like my subs/sandwiches that have oil flowing down my fingers when I grab a hold of it. Prices are awesome here, especially compared to all the nearby pricey NY restaurants. Our subs were $ 11 each and they were HUGE. We each had half of our panini/sub and took the rest for to-go. This place is awesome. It’s great for both a quick grab and/or sit-down chill dinner because they have a decent priced wine list as well. It’s small inside and not fancy looking but I definitely had a great satisfying meal. The waitress was really busy dealing with dining customers and delivery phone calls but she was super nice and helpful. I think I found my new go-to /default place in UES when I want a simple and clean meal.

Just what we wanted, real neighborhood Italian. Unpretentious, high quality. Daughter had awesome tortellini with team sauce. Husband had ravioli with mushrooms. Both plates went back empty with everybody mopping up sauce from daughters plate. I had a huge sandwich(took half home) unusual combo of broccoli rabe, chicken and mozzarella on three inch thick ciabatta. Would definitely come back.

Very satisfying Italian cuisine. I ordered delivery from here tonight based on past positive experiences, and it did not disappoint! The menu is expansive, and knowing how good their food is always makes choosing one item a difficult decision. I went with the gnocchi sorrentina, while my girlfriend tried the«mericano» sandwich. The gnocchi was awesome! Nice and fluffy with a good portion of cheese and delicious tomato sauce. The tomato sauce was so good that I used for dipping my bread long after the gnocchi was devoured. My girlfriend couldn’t stop talking about her sandwich either. The pricing is acceptable given the high quality of food. I’ve been very pleased with the consistency of good meals originating from this restaurant. I can’t wait for my next one!

Good food, good wine, reasonably priced for NYC, good happy hour during the week and great service. One of my favorite local spots to relax and drink some wine.

In short — These guys know their business. Simple dishes, fair prices, high quality. My personal favorite is Capri and their Gnocchi dishes. You can’t ask for something better. Great venue of the amazing Upper East Side.

Order delivery. Paid $ 12 for a sandwich with 3 pieces of, what was supposed to be, prosciutto on it, but what actually came closer to regular old ham. How dainty. If you’re looking for a sandwich, do yourself a favor and go to Milano. They have a prosciutto sandwich that is out of this world and, listen to this, actually has prosciutto on it.

Looking at Il Salumaio, you wouldn’t immediately think«very good Italian», as the space is small and, while intimate, is no-where close to a fine-dining establishment. Where it fails in ambiance and design detail, it makes up for in taste. Thanks to Unilocal,we decided to try it out last week on a random Wednesday and it did not disappoint. The caprese salad was fresh and delicious and the pasta entrees that my group ordered were all well-received. I definitely will make it back here at some point as this could become that low-key«let’s eat out local» spot.

So so Salumaio sandwich(prosciutto, red pepper, mozzarella). Overall, the flavors were overpowered by the olive oil on the thick ciabatta bread. Perhaps the sandwich didn’t have enough prosciutto or red pepper because all I could taste was bread. The mozzarella was very fresh though, I could hear it squeak with each bite!

Walking in on a weekend evening, it’s a pretty small«restaurant,» although not exactly with that feeling. The pappardelle bolognese was very good. The pasta was a bit last al dente, but it still was delicious fresh pasta. The meat sauce was spot on. Service was fantastic as the waiter was quite helpful on wine suggestions.

So we went again yesterday and all I wanted to eat was cheese. They had a fantastic antipasta cheese plate that fulfilled all my wishes, and it came with truffle honey which took it over the edge. It was a great selection of premium cheese, might not be everyone’s favorite thing but I loved it. My companion enjoyed his Salumaio sandwich with creamy balsamic(which is large, like two meals). If we lived closer we’d probably go once a week.

MANGIA! This place is crazy good for Italian style hand crafted sandwiches. Started off as an Italian deli and small sandwich nook kind of spot, and now is a tiny sit down wine bar/restaurant. Owned by the same crew a few doors down at San Matteo pizza. The quality at both are terrific and it shows here. The guys who run this place are really friendly, will offer suggestions, and give out samples to try. Amazing cheeses and fresh Italian meat products. Whether you take a table to dine at, pick up to go, or get delivery you can’t go wrong here. The San Matteo, Arthur Ave, Salumaio, Capri, and the Arechi have all found their way into my mouth and are worthy sandwiches. Also, the olive paste on the Monti Special just kills it. Get in my belly! Wow! A real Italian deli sandwich place! There is nothing like this spot around here in old Yorkville where you can sit down with a glass of wine and a tasty Italian sammich. Salumi, speck, provolone, mortadella, ricotta, eggplant, olives, prosciutto and mushrooms — OHMY! ABBONDANZA!
