Oh man IHOP, why are you even in NY? I’m babysitting two drunken fools who can’t handle their liquor, and knowing that most reputable(AHEM– *good*) establishments won’t let them in their current state, we find ourselves here. I’ve always been put off by them because of their free pancake day thing. They lure you in with the promise of free pancakes and then spring the whole, ‘Since you loved those free pancakes so much would you care to donate the money you would have spent on them to charity?!” No, I wouldn’t. The whole reason I came to this godforsaken place was to eat something I wouldn’t want to pay for in the first place. Don’t get my eating confused with my altruism, kthanksbye. Let me say our server was awesome. Brought us everything we needed, was super sweet, and made time to joke around with us. And if you’re going to order anything order the chicken strips. Not fries, not onion rings, not bacon, not hash browns. Obviously the food is horrendous. I don’t need to tell you. I don’t even know why I’m writing this. Maybe in the hopes that everyone will stop going and IHOP will be driven from the city.

According to IHOP’s trusty website, their Original Buttermilk Pancakes(short stack, which is what was gratis*) garnered ~ 4.9 /5 based on 48 ratings *Pancake Day 2014, 8am: The service from Justin was quite good(water emerged after the free short stack for Pancake Day, but both came out quickly, and he didn’t oversell), but the pancakes(insubstantial** and bland, to be generous) and hostess(pushy about requiring Corporate-optional donations as if they were going right into her pocket) were horrendous. Can’t knock ‘em down to a 2 because the trio of weak syrups I tried and the pancakes that fell apart were likely 70% corporate’s fault, and 30% the result of mass production required for this dogshow of an event. FYI this IHOP isn’t 24 hours and goes by multiple addresses(230 Varick elsewhere). If it weren’t for Unilocal and a compulsion to eventually try every establishment, no matter how distinctly un-New York, I wouldn’t subject myself to this kind of thing. **Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe… and to love you

I felt bad for the waitresses here. I came in for the free pancakes. It was mostly high school kids. I saw one guy eating ribs that he purchased elsewhere. He also had a yogurt on the table. So uncouth smh plus I know that mash up ruined his stomach. Ribs and yogurt?! TF??? Basically the plain stack of cakes were free. I ordered a side of fruit and a mango madness drink. It was pretty good. The fruit was awesome but I didn’t finish anything which made me mad about getting extras. I eat like a bird. I didn’t finish the pancakes, didn’t finish the fruit, didn’t finish the drink. My poor waitress. I asked her how were the tips with these young ass kids patronizing the business and it was just as I thought. No tips, ordering just water. I mean I understand it’s free pancake day but if you order a water ATLEAST tip them. They probably didn’t even donate to the charity. That after all was the purpose of the free pancakes. I was always told if you can’t afford to tip then you shouldn’t be receiving the service! I’m saying…

What has happened to IHOP? Why is breakfast sooooo expensive? And why are we giving them our business. People we need to stop. I had the chicken strip with garlic bread and mash potatoes. It was good but not great. I spent $ 15 for that. Smh never again

I was not sure about this place based on the past reviews. We attempted to go to union square and the line was huge so we took our chances and came here, we waited 10 minutes had our orders taken and food was serve at a rational amount of time. The food was warm and it was as good as any other ihop. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. Best part if all is that it was not full and breakfast was enjoyable because it was a quiet and relaxing. I think I will come back here next time I want some IHOP

Pancakes and eggs: An American classic. What could be harder to screw up? Unbelievably, IHOP screwed it up royally. From the moment we walked in for our 1 ½ long lunch ordeal til the moment we left, every aspect of lunch was a disaster. Let’s start with the server. One server took our drinks, then we were approached by another server who tried to take our drink order. A common misunderstanding, and drinks arrived promptly. Then, after having waited for 15 minutes, we had a THIRD server take our food order, who then screwed up BOTH orders. Half an hour later, food began to arrive — I say«began to» because it arrived in stages over a 10 minute period. Every aspect of both orders were wrong AND incomplete: My friend ordered an omelet with hash browns and pancakes he received a different omelet without hash browns OR pancakes. I ordered some whole wheat pancakes with bananas and fresh eggs, I got a small plate of two plain pancakes with blueberries on them. Despite having had to wait for 45 minutes for our plates of food, my friend and endured the server’s corrected orders in even more stages, with long waits in between. My eggs, for example: First my eggs were substitute eggs when I had ordered fresh, then when the eggs were fresh they were cold, then when the eggs were fresh and hot, they were not scrambled — rather, they were reheated pieces of fried eggs chopped up into little pieces and piled on the plate. As we strolled back to work, my friend remarked, «For what you pay at IHOP, any of these places around here would be better.» And he’s right. The $ 20 bucks we paid for such a disappointment was a total waste. Never again, IHOP!

I have never seen a chain restaurant be so unorganized. The fact that there was no hostess around to seat us upon walking in, should have raised a red flag. When were finally met by a waiter, he looked around for a table before tucking us away in the corner because none of the other tables were clean. I don’t think the staff even knew whose table it was. I ordered coffee from one waitress, was asked what I wanted to drink by another waitress, and was brought a soda(which I declined) by a waiter. Five minutes later, the first waitress brought my coffee. The waitress took our orders without writing it down, and(surprise!) managed to bring us both the wrong entrees. My friend had to send hers back three times before they finally got it right, and even then was left unhappy with the results. I decided not to point out yet another mistake to this already harried waitstaff and picked at what I was brought until it was time to leave. We spent over 90 minutes at IHOP for an unsatisfying, misfired, overpriced meal. There are far better choices in this neighborhood, most of which will provide a more enjoyable, less expensive lunch.

Not sure what I was thinking going here in the first place, let alone going more than once. I guess I just wanted some of that classic, chain, «bad-for-you» food. The staff is SUPER nice, I will say this. This is a giant establishment that is never more than 6 tables full. The last time I was there, my party of 2 waited over an hour to get our check, despite asking a couple times. There was maybe one or two other full tables in the entire place. In an attempt to cover up the embarrassment when we FINALLY got the check, we were greeted with a «you guys know you’re family right? hahah»(yes, this is how much I embarrassingly went here for a sad part of my life I’d rather forget). How embarrassing is that? Luckily I came to my senses and decided«never again.» If you want to pay to get the shits over food that doesn’t even taste that good going in, be my guest. It also takes a surprisingly long time for the food to come out when there are only 16 other customers and all they do is reheat the instant eggs and sausage from the day before.

For an IHOP joint, the food is OKAY, but not the BEST. Went here after my nephew’s 5th grade graduation, and quite honestly, I was better off going anywhere else but here. The service was friendly, I won’t front. But they took almost 25 minutes to get us our drinks, and even then half the table received their beverages before the rest received theirs. The food took a lot longer. I had finished my french toast, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and bacon when my sister had JUST received her meal. And their excuse: there’s a table of 30 downstairs. I’ve worked in a restaurant business before. My father owned his own restaurant before he decided to sell it, retire, and spend half the year in Mexico and the other half here in NY. But all the years my sisters and I worked the front, we never used a poor excuse as that. When we would get a big table like that, which my sister’s and I have handled before, we would make sure to get each table their entire order out as closest to each other as possible. And we weren’t flipping pancakes, and frying bacon. Get it together IHOP. Not coming back here. If you have the time, and patience, this is the place for you. Otherwise, hit up Waverly Diner.

I do not know where the bad reviews came from, but the girl waiting on my ex co-worker and I was ONPOINT and QUICK! She even helped my ex co-worker decide on a meal! Actually ALL the servers were on point, fast and courteous. WE even got more pancakes than we ordered. Server mistake! Ha! I got the 2×2×2− The eggs weren’t the greatest– tasted like they were from powder. Turkey bacon was chewy and cold. All I am going to say… Red Velvet Pancakes… CRACK! EXCELLENT! It saved my meal!

It was on a rainy day in the city last week, what else is new, when I noticed this IHOP. So I decided to come in for a break from the nasty downpour and eat a late breakfast. It’s pretty spacious inside. There are two floors, but I opted for a booth on the ground level. For such a large space, I was surprised when I overheard the restroom is single occupancy only(just sayin’). Anyway, there were many available booths, and it wasn’t busy. So I was perplexed as to why I wasn’t handed a menu after a waitress said she’d be back with one. Eventually, another server introduced himself and brought me a menu. Breakfast at IHOP was okay. Besides I really wasn’t expecting much. If this IHOP had been here during the days when I frequented SOBs, perhaps I’d be stumbling(ahem, I mean walking) in more often in the wee hours of the morning. Nothing says soak up the alcohol like pancake stacks. Next time I find myself in the area, I think I’ll head to Hudson diner, which I prefer.

I don’t understand the negative reviews. We had an awesome time. We got a $ 10 for $ 20 of food through Amazon Local. Dined on Sunday at 1pm. No wait. Friendly and attentive server. Remembered our order without writing it down(and not messing anything up — props Erica!). Pancakes were really good, though standard. I was a little surprised at the overall price. For three people, each getting chocolate chip pancakes, a coffee, and a side(bacon or hash browns), the total came to $ 45. Whatever, it was delicious. This place was incredibly clean too.

On a Friday morning around 8am, with no wait and the place only about half-full, why did it take nearly an hour for my meal for one person? Ordered an omelet with hash browns and pancakes, coffee and water. Coffee immediately given. After about 15 minutes of waiting, another server asks what I had ordered. Not a good sign. 2 minutes after that, my original server brings out… my water. 5 minutes later… my pancakes came out. I’m a slow eater but still… takes another 10 minutes for my omelet to come out. Then the server leaves, and I noticed… no hash browns. Had to flag down the other server to get those, which took another 5 minutes. Took another 5 minutes between asking for the check and actually receiving the check. The food was good as usual. And I get that for a lot of the servers that they were just finishing up their overnight shift. But that was pretty bad.

Had an absolutely awful experience at this IHOP. I knew it was coming, too. It’s NYC, we’re going to brunch, and my friends choose IHOP. Surely there’s better options, but they pretty much insisted, so I went along with it. I ordered one dish, my two friends ordered a different dish, but the same one. After waiting for about 20 minutes, our server came over and told us our food would be out really soon. 10 minutes later, the manager came over and told us that they were out of the dish that my friends ordered. How was our food almost ready if they didn’t have it. Clearly there was a major miscommunication somewhere. They re-ordered, and I told the manager how ridiculous it was that we waited this long to re-order. He told us he’d give us our meal 50% off, which seemed fair. I was bemoaning my fate at this point, as I realized my dish would be sitting under the heat lamps while their food was cooked. Little did I realize that this would have been a slightly better result than what actually happened. When the food FINALLY came out, my friends’ food was fresh, and mine was ice cold. I didn’t care at this point, as I wasn’t about to send it back. I ate the worst meal of my life. Getting the check was a nightmare, and I finally had to ask for the manager as the check that came out wasn’t 50% off. I told him how terrible of an experience the whole thing, and how my food was cold. My friends said they’ve come here a few times but wouldn’t anymore. The only positive experience was that they brought me a big pot of coffee so I didn’t have to wait on them for refills. The manager apologized profusely and in the end decided to comp our meal. Definitely the right solution considering how bad our meal was. I definitely appreciate his attitude and it saved this IHOP from getting a 1* review. But I would have much rather paid money to have a meal I didn’t hate. Oh well.

I went here on Sunday for brunch, and I loved it. Finally, a decently priced place in the west village where you dont have to spend $ 15 per person just for some eggs and pancakes. Free coffee refills! It just doesnt get any better than IHOP(unless its IHOP in the suburbs — which tends to be a little cheaper). The service was a little slow, and the servers obviously need a little help(needed to ask for a water refill because no one is going around refilling cups, and then they have me a new cup instead of just refilling my glass…) but I am sure that will all be worked out in a few weeks or months. Plus, there was no wait for a booth even though we get there at a prime time of about 11:30am on a Sunday! Btw — this place is technically on Varick St…

This is a very new IHOP that just opened up in the Village that I came here with Miss Sarit a couple weeks ago. I would never have known about it were it not for the 10 $ for 20 $ Groupon deal. The place is immaculate(read: brand-spanking-new), there is a ground level of seating as well as an underground level of seating. We sat at the ground level, so I cannot speak for the lower level; however the ground level was quite nice. The waiting area is spacious and inside along with the traditional IHOP-style seating, wait times were manageable. We got there without a reservation and waited no more than ten minutes. One thing I will mention is I am not sure where IHOP gets off charging 15 $ for their dinner meals now — and they’ve done away with(at least this location) the 7 $ specials we all know and love. I’m not saying this is pricey, but come on… It’s an IHOP. The hash browns literally come out cut in a square — everything here is mass produced and very little is made to order. Flavor was mediocre, quality sub-par, which is what we all expect from an IHOP right? But come on don’t make me pay 15 $ for pancakes and eggs for one person where I can get it from family restaurants(or ANY other diner) that care about their product for 7 – 8 $ and make it fresh to order. I would up with a total bill of over 35 $ for two people, not ordering anything special. Pancakes, eggs and hash brown combos with coffee. Seriously, from an IHOP? IHOP… You’ve done me wrong. Your one saving grace is the syrup flavors.

Not complete heresy; but let’s have a discussion: Three of my co-workers come back into the office and say: do not go to the new IHOP, we just waited an hour and a half and the food never came and there was no one there. Good way to start a business at a new location. What a waste of time.

YES! Mannn do I love IHOP. I’m originally from Jersey aka the diner capital of USA. So you can imagine just how EXCITED I am about that is opened up near my apt. Before anyone passes some sort of judgement on me because I love IHOP… I’m just letting everyone know that in Jersey, we’d go to IHOP at like 2 or 3am just for kicks. IHOP definitely hits the spot after a night of fist pumping down the shore… so why wouldn’t this be a good idea for lower Manhattan? Hello all day breakfast! I love corned beef hash with sunny side up eggs. Or crepes. Or red velvet pancakes… Yum! Had a great snack time here last night. Everyone who works here was also pretty chill. They say that NYC is the city that never sleeps. However, I always find myself in a jam when I don’t want to travel really far to find food at some random hour of the day. I can only have so much chicken and rice or bonchon. Thankfully I now have IHOP just a few blocks away! I’ll be back again soon. I also told all my doormen that this just opened up nearby and they couldn’t contain their excitement. They already were planning how they would be spending their lunch breaks getting food there. I couldn’t help myself, I had to spread the good news that pancakes and eggs were just a 5 minute walk away!
