It’s not going to win any coffeehouse awards, but I enjoy the chai tea latte there and it’s never that busy. There’s some food available like sandwiches and pastries, but I’ve never tried one. My major beef is that they use mismatched furniture, which sounds cute in theory, but in actuality gives the place the feel of a dingy garage sale instead. Gays also love this place.

Every time I visit New York I come here to spend time looking at the ceiling. No, no, it’s not because I’m doing the horizontal dance with a hohum come-panion. The ceiling in here is truly a work of art. It’s hammered by hand(think that’s the process) tin from the Victorian era and it’s really something to behold. Some of the furniture is also from that era, but has been re-covered with fun faux fur fabrics and bright colors. It’s not a place for incredible foods, but the food is good, nice coffee, tea, espresso selection. This café is, however, the perfect spot to stop in the early afternoon, meet a friend, have a seat and in the middle of the buzz of NYC… just stop a moment. I like to sit in the ornately carved wooden framed cheetah fur chair, and lean back and imagine the day that the artisan began tapping the tin like Fred Astaire to bring us his aria of light lyrical metal. A cup of tea, a ceiling of tin, and thou. heaven, I’m in heaven…

Except for the large cavernous space with cute tables and chairs, this place doesn’t have much to offer. The food is dismal, the coffee and tea selection unexciting, the music is often too loud, and the back room smells like the bathroom due to oddly placed ventilation.
