We stumbled upon Gloo as a spot for a pre-dinner libation. I’m so glad this was the spot we discovered! Very cozy in the bar area-we never made it into the actual dining room area although that looked thoughtfully appointed too. It is a true french establishment as french was the dominant language spoken that we heard. I loved it! Very warm and inviting. Lovely wine menu they even brought over some munchies for us-very sweet.

Had the perfect dinner here! Food is amazing, my friend and I shared the steak tartare to start and for mains he had the scallops and I had the lamb stew. I have to say my lamb was cooked to perfection! Definitely a must try if you’re in the area. Also did I mention the ambiance? The interior is chic bistro the interior, the staff are super friendly and the music was great.

One of the worst restaurants I’ve dine in NY! Ordered the lobster salad is 3 bite size lobster on a bed of coleslaw for $ 16, my friend’s omelette didn’t come with side salad, pâté was plain and the only decent one was the cocotte. And did I tell u they didn’t stop construction until another party arrived. Sorry but never coming back.

The place’s ambiance is a bit too dark and the arts on the wall are a bit too shady and scary. The bathroom is too dark to see anything. It needs more light! For the Entrees it took them 1+ hour to be served for 9 ppl… This is real slow for a restaurant in NYC. Cooking time needs improvement! Someone from our group needed to ask the waiter to bring us breads otherwise they wouldn’t. For the appetizer we had: SALADEDEHOMARD, PATECROUTE, ASSIETTEDECHARCUTERIESMAISON, and BRANDADEDEMORUE. They were ok. Nothing special. For the entrée I had: ONGLET à l’échalote. The potatoes were not tasty. The Beef was ok, but nothing special.

Mmm delicious. The staff is very warm and friendly. The food was equally warm and delectable. My friend and I ordered, the POULET bio VALLEE D’AUGE(Organic chicken sauté, cider, mushrooms, apple, cream, potatoes) & the ONGLET à l’échalote(Hanger Beef, shallots slowly cooked in butter, potatoes gratin and arugula). Both entrees where very rustic and perfectly seasoned… sometimes, food can be overly seasoned and sooner or later you realized you’ve guzzled a whole gallon of water down b/c you are so parched from dinner. The dessert at the end was perfect: Pineapple Panna Cotta & Upside down apple tart. The pineapple cotta was amazing… it was refreshing and not overly sweet. I want 10 more… Will absolutely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Came here with some friends on a cold New York day, I ordered the lamb stew and friend ordered the Steak, and we started with the pâté. The pâté was very good with the bread provided and the lamb stew was well seasoned. The steak was done perfectly juicy. And the waiter was very friendly and great!

This is a really great neighborhood french bistro. The chef/owner and his wife are both French and the food was very good. The restaurant is comfortably large for a west village eatery. The menu is classic French bistro, my hanger steak was exceptionally well cooked and my wife’s lamb stew was traditional and delicious. We started with a tomato patin which had really good tomato flavor and the pastry was well made and a pâté which was also delicious. Dessert of chocolate cake was a perfect finish to the meal. The wine list was affordably priced as well. Service was excellent, both the servers are french and knew the food very well. Overall a great addition, high recommend!

Wow, what a nice surprise. Was in the neighborhood and was looking for a quick bite. Had the skirt steak and potatoes au gratin, which was really good. Wife had salmon tartar which was also good. Chocolate caramel dessert also recommended. All French staff and all very courteous. Definitely worth a revisit

This place was ideal for the kind of night my friend and I wanted to have. We were going to see a burlesque rendition of Cinderella to get us into the Halloween spirit. Gloo is sultry and intimate with a hint of darkness. The backlit, vintage portraits on the walls which I was facing had a hallucinogenic glow. The waiters were lovely eye-candy with swoon worthy accents. The menu has many french bistro staples. We split the beef tartar and roasted chicken. Both were amazing but on the heavier side. None of the appetizers jumped out at me based on their description. I sense that the descriptions lacking esoteric ingredients just doesn’t do the food justice. Such an enigma: French food without pretension.

After I had a appetizer of crudités with anchovy dip, I’ve been looking for places that serves this dish. And this place has it on their menu: Anchoiade provencale: anchovy sauce, carrots, celery, cucumber, radish. The vegetables are finely cut. The sauce is grey, it’s not very salty and has a tangy taste. It’s a small appetizer for one. Dos de cabillaud, creamy green tea sauce and sauteed vegetables(cauliflower, celery, mushrooms, potato purée). The cod was perfectly cooked, a flakiness that breaks easily with a fork. The green tea sauce was interesting with a subtle bitterness. The vegetables were delicious. It’s a beautiful dish and well prepared. They serve Alain Milliat bottled fruit nectar. But to my disappointment, those nectar are not 100% natural. The waitress is friendly and attentive.

Great food. Good atmosphere. Very friendly service. Reasonably priced. I would definitely eat here again. Although the service was friendly they dropped the ball on a few things which made me drop it to 3 – 4 star rating. My martini was delivered just over half full in the glass. I didn’t think twice about it, just figured they mis-measured or something, but then the same thing happened with my 2nd one. The bread was unfortunately stale. Kind of a let down because I love the harder, crusty bread I get over in France. The server never brought back our water pitcher for our table. The server never brought butter for the bread until we reminded him again later. All in all my wife and I enjoyed the food a lot. We had the honey pork for an app and it was delicious. I had the Lamb stew and carrots Vichy. The lamb was very tender and tasty and the carrots reminded me of the kind my mother would make. My wife had the salmon tartare and enjoyed it very much. Fresh and flavorful without being too heavily dressed.

Francophiles and foodies alike should head over to one of the newest spots in the West Village to get their fixes — tout de suite! I passed by this new spot yesterday and made a note to come back. Our dinner last night at Gloo was the perfect followup to a performance of «American in Paris.» I told owners Christophe and Constance that after a few sips of wine, we were transported to the City of Light. But it’s not the city that so many French restaurants would have you envision. This one’s cooler, hipper, and yet more fun and friendly. The owners and Simon were our guides through the wine list and the menu. A bottle of Rosillon was perfect both in taste and price point. My dining partner loved her lamb stew, which was served with mashed potatoes and baby carrots. While the eggplant lasagna is a vegan option, it’s so delicious that even the fiercest omnivore would love it. Vegans note that it’s made with cashew cream and it’s exceptional. We were thrilled with our desserts. The deconstructed lemon tart was phenomenal. It was served in a martini glass filled with so many good flavors: strawberry purée is topped with the lemon crème and covered with a toffee-like crunch. Can I get an Amen? The mini eclairs are charming and include strawberry, coffee nougat, and traditional with outstanding whipped crème in between. One of my baseline tests of a good French restaurants is the bread and Gloo passes with flying colors with a sliced whole grain baguette served in an open paper bag. We did start with the tomato tartine which could used a bit of the bread’s crunch. On top of this wonderful food is an authentic but with a new and cool feel. The wall in the bar has antique English mug shots. The design is different and fun and the staff will speak French with you if you’d like. By the way, Gloo is the French word for the sound of drinking(think glug in English). If you’re ready for some great food and a bit of Gloo, I’d say head down to Carmine Street for the closest thing you’ll find to a chic new Parisian spot around here.

Gloo offers a superb French cuisine, perfectly executed, on par with its excellent service. I am French so I can be very picky about the food, usual when you grew up with your mum cooking amazing French meals everyday. Gloo does not disappoint. My husband and I went there a few days after the opening as we heard the chef was from Lyon, the gastronomy capital of France. I ordered a Pâté en Croute as a starter, dish that is entirely homemade by the Chef. The foie gras shavings in the Pâté were very tasty and the crust was of a perfect size, not too big and stuffy, not too thin and flimsy. For the main part of the meal, my husband and I shared the chicken and the Saint Jacques Carpaccio. Both servings were mouth watering, with very decent portions reasonably priced. The dessert, a tarte citron, was good but, nothing exceptional. The crème Chantilly next to the tarte was on the other hand of the perfect consistence, fluffy and creamy at the same time. We had a few glasses of wine and we ended up by a glass of Calvados, which is always a perfect way to start in the digestive process. The bill came around $ 140 total for two persons, a very good price considering the quality of the cuisine and the quantity of food and alcohol we had. We had the chance to discuss with the maitre d’hotel, Charles, and the chef, Christophe who were keen to get our feedback. They took the time to explain their plans for the restaurant and discuss the menu. We will return with pleasure to Gloo. Merci beaucoup!

I’m always so hesitant to give a restaurant outstanding reviews; purely because I’m selfish and I don’t want to let the hoi polloi in on secret gems. But, I can’t help myself. GLOO, a French vernacular for the sound of wine«glugging» from bottle to maw, is on Carmine St. by 7th ave. Delicious, simple, clean French cuisine and superb staff. Very friendly and attentive. The chef, Christophe Garnier and his staff, Charles, and Ryan encapsulates true old school graciousness and modern feel. The food is truly delicious. We ordered the traditional lardons and pâté to start. Delicious, fatty, and flavorful. The pâté was delicate and the aspic was perfectly formed with a delicious pastry top. We also had the«ice soup» which is completely vegetarian. We were pleasantly surprised to see that Chef Christophe incorporated romanesco, a delicious vegetable related to cauliflower. It was tender, and so delicate. Delicious. For the mains, we had lamb cassoulet, a perfectly balanced stew with really delicious accompaniment of mashed potatoes and stewed carrots. The asparagus risotto is purely vegan, and purely exquisite. The rice was cooked perfectly and not overly sauced. The accompanying parsley pesto paired beautifully. It’s not like an Italian risotto where it’s very sticky with cheese and the rice is «wetter». It’s a very clean, delicious. The portions are impressive for anyone who’s coming with an appetite. The dessert, a panna cotta mango mouse with crème fraîche was sweetened so delicately. Not too sweet. The lemon tarte was equally fantastic. Nice and lemony and very tart. This may not be for people who don’t like things so tart. The takeaway from our experience here is that the food is something you would eat at someone’s home: delicious, unpretentious, clean, fresh, and heartwarming. The service is incredibly attentive and thoughtful. It was one of the better restaurant experiences I’ve had in quite some time. One would be remiss to not come here.

Definitely has the potential for 5 stars which I look forward to giving it. Customer service is spectacular. This was their first weekend open. They opened 3 or 4 days ago and still have some kinks to work out. I met all the staff including the chef. All from Provence except for Ryan the bartender who is from upstate. A couple dishes hit some sour notes but everything else I tried was really good. the raw scallops were fishy and slimy. not good! I need to learn more French in order to read the menu! I’m sure once they get a rhythm of working with each other and fine-tune the menu it will definitely be five star
