After reading the other reviews from others who purchased the Groupon brunch deal, I expected the very worst. When we arrived, the hostess did nothing to ease my fears as when she heard we were there for the Groupon deal her demeanor changed. It ended being the best experience. Really good food and drinks and the service was excellent. I can’t wait to go back!

I’ve only been here once during their happy hour so I don’t know how their food or club scene is like. Please keep this in mind when you read my review. * Great sports bar * Prompt, attentive, and friendly service * Cute front patio seating with pub tables and stools. * Two words: HAPPYHOUR. Three drinks and I’m toasted? Wow! Either I’m a sad light weight or they’re definitely generous with their measurements. I will be back to visit on my next NYC trip. This is one lounge that deserves a nice hype!

I liked this place the first time I went; the food wasn’t going to wow your palate, but it was good, and the happy hour prices and drink selection was good. The second time, several months later, was not nearly as good. First, they changed the menu and took away the vidalia onion rings(fail). Second, our waitress, while nice, made mistake after mistake. We counted nine, and here are the seven I still remember today(we went Friday). 1. Didn’t write down our orders and couldn’t remember who had what side(there were three of us). 2. She asked me how I wanted my chicken cooked. Really? 3. The other two ordered burgers medium and they came well done. 4. They also ordered BBQ burgers and got burgers with mounds of blue cheese instead. 5. I ordered a mojito and got a margarita. 6. Appetizer came out with the main. 7. She charged us full price for drinks before 8pm. Very disappointed that my second experience wasn’t as good as my first. Plenty of better places to grab pub grub in the East Village.

I honestly did not figure Hype to be a sports bar. Sure it had a HD flatscreen or two, but they seem to be going for that faux-upscale lounge look quite a bit. I don’t know. .. When I came, it was pretty empty, so I honestly can’t picture of bunch leatherheads huddled around this place for Monday Night Football. Also, all that ugly steel and modern décor just comes off as cold and pretentious. On the bright side, they do have very attentive servers, and their specials are very cheap. This is especially true when compared to other Manhattan prices. Sadly, their selection of beers were pretty crap, so don’t even bother with asking for anything else cause that might as well be all they serve. As for their food; Who in their right mind would order food from a lounge? You make me sick! *CORRECTION: Their beer selection has purportedly been expanded to about 50 beers!(Gasp) Also, they have 19HD flatscreens, not the mere 2.

to be honest the only reason why i bothered was because of a livingsocial voucher. it was near expiration and i decided to give it a try. i had brunch here and they started with a fruit salad, the entrees were nothing special in particular, eggs and french toasts. it was pretty mediocre. we weren’t greeted at the door when we got there and the waiter was never around although the place was nowhere near full. the place is cutely decorated and the vibe is pretty young and hip. it would be a nice place to book out for a small private event because theres such a large wasted space in the middle. i wouldn’t be coming back only because there are places that do what they do better.

I have gone to Hype Lounge on several different occasions and each one was a positive experience. It is definitely a chill spot to come with a group of friends for reasonably priced drinks and a good crowd. I went on a Saturday night and although there were a lot of people there, i never felt like it was overcrowded and the bartenders were very attentive. They got us our drinks very quickly while never making us feel rushed. The bartender with the long blonde hair(Ally?) made me one of the best dirty martinis i have ever had! I also went here last Sunday to watch the playoff games and have to admit I have never been to a bar as perfect as Hype to watch football. They have numerous HD TVs, great sound, a fun crowd and fantastic food! The mac and cheese is absolutely amazing! I will definitely be going back to Hype and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good time with good people and fantastic service.

The cover for this place is absolutely ridiculous! Of course they keep you standing on line outside until after 12 when the price goes up. I paid 15 $ to get in here and then 5 $ more for the mandatory coat check. That’s 20 $ for those of you that can’t add… which is too friggin much for this place. The bartenders, two young ladies, one angel one extremely extra. It was an 18+ party so I get why she was going so hard but still, once you see a wrist band and the custumer can prove their of legal drinking age, RELAX, put a smile on and friggin serve them! She wasn’t my bar tender but it was so unpleasant watching as she interacted with customers near me. My bartender was an angel and I tipped her well. The music was wonderful. The only problem was it was like a highschool party. All the kids kind of stood around looking at each other when all the real good music was on. I just couldn’t get in to it. Then the young guys were jumping in the air, doing crazy stuff. IDK. I’m all for fun but the crowd was reaaallllyyyy young so it was bringing my spirits down. Usually I can rock witht he kiddies but… it was just off in this place. It was some guys birthday, and his friend invited us over to have cake. That was cool. I love cake. It was delicious. The bouncer was very friendly and had a lovely little chat with me after I was leaving. The bathroom was cute. Small. Like a personal. One for guys one for girls. The kitchen is right next to it. All of the employees(aside for the angry bar tender) were friendly and chatted with me. That was cool. This place could be better on a different night. Hopefully not a 18+ and hopefully that silly cover charge goes ALL the way down.

came here last sunday — plentiful HD screens displaying two games at the bar, huge screens in the back(vital for NFL season — in between an upscale sports bar-lounge feel — clean(doesn’t reek of stale beer) — nice selection of beers, good prices — $ 5 bottles –chill/friendly bartender –decent food –only con is the top 40 music. hate that sh*t.

brunch was gooood~ so much food and so satisfying… we got the omelette and the egg benis … both came with a salad and potatoes on the side~ not too big on the sweet dressing salad but the home fries were alright my omelet was like a double tiered cake! so fluffy and filled with ingredients~ i picked spinach mushroom and bacon, great combo! I enjoyed it a lot. It was so much food i just couldn’t finish it alone. The egg beni was good too. It has the option of smoked salmon or ham. Picked the smoked salmon b/c it seemed a little more special. It was alright but i don’t think it’s something that i can keep eating and munching. so i would still pick the omelet over that. Overall, good experience :) attentive service and lots of food for a decent price($ 13 avg per entrée). If you’re in the area, it’s not a bad spot to check out, but i wouldn’t go all the way for this place… unless u have a groupon: P haha

We came here for brunch on a Sunday. We had a groupon that included an entrée, fresh fruit and 2 drinks x2 Service: Prompt and friendly. We were free to sit anywhere. Ambiance : It was football Sunday so it had a good crowd of sports fans. During commercial breaks they turn down the tv volume and have a live dj spinning dance music. Floors and tables were clean Food: Quantity 5⁄5 Quality 3⁄5 I had an omelette it comes with 3 fillings of your choice. There was a pretty good selection of fillings including asparagus 5 types of cheeses, etc. Comes with home fries and a side salad. The omelette was no joke it was atleast 5 eggs and they didn’t skimp on the fillings. The texture was more like a frittata though, maybe a bit over cooked. It was served hot throughout. Home fries were warm and crispy on the outside. The bloody Mary was sufficiently strong and spicy with horse radish mixed in. The mimosa was equally as strong. The regular brunch menu costs between 9 – 13 $ for one entrée and includes one drink. On another note, Ive been here once before at night for drinks. The music was good, there was a dance area in the back and the crowd was good as well.

As the name unfortunately implies, this place is all hype. Came in with 2 friends on the Snowpocalyse of Halloween weekend and was welcomed with a less-than-skilled bunch of waitresses who couldn’t seem to figure out the head or tail end of being waitresses. Roughly 4 waitresses stood around, looking seemingly lost and confused and flustered. We put in our order — 1 regular burger(they got it wrong, they put blue cheese and bacon on it), wings, and nachos. Mind you, the place wasn’t all that crowded but somehow it still took a solid 45 minutes before we got the burger and wings; and another 20 minutes before the nachos came out. The only thing that came within a reasonable time were the beers, and that’s probably because we were sitting at the bar. Seeing that we were visibly frustrated, our waitress/bartender repeatedly checked on the order of nachos. It finally came out, served to us by a different waitress who attempted to mollify the situation with her ineffective cuteness by saying that the chef put«extra cheese and love.» Sorry lady, no amount of cheese can give me an hour of my life back. How about offering a free round of beers or something for the ridiculous wait? Top it all off, there was a hair in the nachos.

Would have given this place 3 stars for brunch but my husband was served the wrong entrée and my eggs Benedict was so raw that I had to send it back. They need to hire a new chef who knows how to properly make brunch.

We came here with a Groupon. It was the worst service I have ever experienced. The waitress was not even in sight for the majority of the time. She never came by the table to ask if we needed anything. Our food took forever to come out. The eggs were runny and overly cheesy, accompanying salad was completely undressed. They neglected to give us our free fruit plates, and we asked for them to go. The very confused busboy brought us ONE fruit plate in a bag. We asked for another, and found that the fruit plates consisted of nothing but slimy berries. No apologies, no attention at all. The diners next to us leaned over and asked if our service has been as bad. When she totaled up what the bill would have been, I saw that she would have charged us for the drinks you already get free. NEVER go here. They have no respect for their customers.

I am extremely dissapointed in the entire offer. We arrived and there they really werent busy, I had reservation and still had to wait. Our waitress was TERRIBLE!!! She stayed in her own corner most of the time while we waited for water, and then we got up ourselves to get water while the waitress stared at us. She had such a bad attitute. We put in our order only to realize that after 50 minutes it was never put in. They forgot, but the manager told us there was confusion and they thought they already made it. Then my friend had a dirty beer bottle cap in her drink we were disgusted! The manager said it would be complinentary, but it already was!!! I can not believe it! I am so dissapointed as all I wanted to do was take my friend to brunch! The manager did apologize but I did explain that she needed to manager her team better and get a new waitress and then she became our waitress. When our order finally came out-My«mixed greens» for my omlette was just literally 5 pieces of lettuce. Plus My order and my friends order were mixed up… Then the food was horrible. My friend was so disgusted at the raw eggs. Everyone there on a groupon was miserble and no one tipped because of the crappy service… !!! We ended up leaving and ate two gyros from a stand. The 5 dollar GYRO was WAY better than food that they try to push as «brunch» Also the people next to us told us how when they had the kitchen doors open they saw the chefs arguing and cursing at each other… yeah that makes me feel better about the food coming out to be served.

I went here today for the Groupon deal on brunch. It was an excellent deal: two entrees, two fruit salads, and four drinks for $ 19. That is the one redeeming quality of my experience at Hype. I made my reservation on OpenTable, and requested to be sat near a window. We were put at the complete back of the restaurant instead. I shrugged it off, but it was mildly annoying. Our waitress was terrible. She did not refill our waters once, even after I asked twice. She never came by to ask how the food was. She seemed annoyed to have a table of people who had a Groupon, and pretty much ignored us the entire time. I ordered an egg white omelet and the whites were completely raw inside. I literally could not eat it. The«side salad» it comes with consisted of about 4 leaves of lettuce, and I had about 5 home fries on my plate– the sides were honestly more like garnishes. The fruit salad was tiny and lame– watery cantaloupe, a few chunks of watermelon and one strawberry. I can’t believe people pay $ 6 for that. At the end of the meal, the waitress came up and in a loud, annoying voice, announced that bill«would have been $ 158, but is $ 0». I found it an obnoxious and tacky ploy to get tipped on the full amount(which we would have done anyway, without the theatrics). The bloody mary and the mimosa were good, and made me feel okay about the fact that I spent the $ 10 on the Groupon. Had I actually spent $ 48(the pre-Groupon amount for my own brunch), I would have been enraged. This place is a completely over-priced ripoff with horrible service and poor quality food in tiny portions. The Groupon is still worth it because the drinks alone are still a deal(and were fine), but don’t go expecting a pleasant brunch experience, and NEVER go and pay full price.

Threw a surprise brunch for my sister here because it as aycd and can watch sports at the same time. This a pretty large lounge type sports bar. It was pretty empty when we arrived for our 2:30 reservations and I was hungover as hell from the previous night’s debauchery. Our waitress was cheery and accommodating and told me I looked beautiful even though I only got like an hour of sleep and still had remnants of last nights makeup on. We were a pretty loud bunch of girls and started off with bloody marys and mimosas, nothing like double fisting to cure a hangover. I got a ham and two cheese omelet which was super cheesy and delicious and I cleared off my whole plate including home fries. I also stole bites of some of my friends french toast and fruit. The only con was it was so empty but since we were a loud group of girls it was fine.

Checked out this place with a couple friends last week, after walking by for months and anticipating the opening, for the rescheduled Giants game. Very cool vibe: a cross between a sports bar and a lounge. The 2 for 1 happy hour until 8pm is a decent deal when most along 14th street are only till 7. However, the food overall was a little pricey($ 9 for a «small bucket» of 6 wings or $ 13 for dozen). Because they had just opened officially the weekend prior, the staff was very interested to hear our feedback. My friends and I discussed the menu(both food and drink), and they even seemed responsive on my comments about the prices. The food wasn’t bad; I’ll even say almost pretty good, but it’s just hard to justify paying 1.5 times as much as the certified sports bar next door where it is only $ 7.99 for about 10 wings. Same with the burger: $ 15 at Hype, but it’s only $ 9 at the Blind Pig. Understood, Hype is going for a slightly different type of place than the known local sports bar that is the Blind Pig, but when it boils down to it and I need to pick a place to watch a game — most will head to the B.P. That being said, my friends and I split the bigger bucket of wings, fried calamari, and the viadalia onion rings. The wings were solid: not outstanding, but I’d have them again; the calamari could have been a bit crispier but came with good spicy dipping sauce. The orion rings were a surprise: thick cut and stacked in a tower(only about 5 – 6), they certainly were not what I had expected. Although they too could have been a bit crispier, I was pleasantly surprised by the sweetness of the viadalia. Overall, I like the place and will see myself here again, as they have a pretty impressive beer selection and the service was great. With the current prices, I probably wouldn’t target this place for the meal, but would order a little something from the Nibbles/Accessories menu if needed(most around $ 5) while taking advantage of the happy hour. It’ll be interesting to see the type of crowd this places gathers, but a much anticipated and welcomed addition to the EV scene.
