Hinata’s vegan ramen is far superior to Ippudo’s. Get it with vegan noodles, fried tofu, and a $ 1 side of spicy sauce. This place is a hidden gem but I want it to do well in the face of its overrated competition!

Summer is here– my bf and I were excited to see what the new seasonal special is. (My BF was sad to see the Yuzu ramen gone) Hinata now offers Hiyashi Chuka(which is chilled ramen noodles topped off with various veggies and meat, served with a refreshing vinegar-y sauce) and a Cold Spicy Noodle. I tried the hiyashi chuka– served with tomatoes, bean sprouts, egg, cucumber and either shredded pork or chicken, it was a huge meal– their dressing was really refreshing and you don’t get tired of the taste. Perfect for a hot day!(p.s. Hinata was nice and air conditioned :))

I really enjoyed the spicy ramen and pork bun. I was visiting when it was freezing out so it definitely did the trick.

Random pick for dinner tonight. Small space but seating is not cramp. Considering the location, decent value for the price. I got the paitan with straight noodles and chicken. The paitan soup base is nice and thick, flavorful and free of MSG and did live up to expectation — definitely the star of the bowl. Generous topping of veggies, scallion, chicken was alright(roast pork might have been better?) Appetizer of fried chicken skin sounded good, came with spicy ponzu. I prefer it a little less hard crunchy and more melt in the mouth but the sauce complimented it nicely and I actually added them to my ramen soup and that worked out perfectly there. Sesame pudding came in a bowl and a complimentary tea which was a nice surprise. Very delicate flavor and smooth. Right up my alley. For the fact that there wasn’t a big wait(unlike Totto etc) and the quality of food was very good, if I have a craving for Ramen might actually come here instead of waiting an hour on the street to get rush out the door at other places. Service was normal and the servers were all very polite and friendly. No complaints there either. Just remember to bring cash with you — they don’t take cards.

Spring Ramen Special — Yuzu Shio Soba for lunch! Broth — a light shio with a visually appealing drizzle of hot oil on the surface and pleasing chicken taste. Noodles — thin and straight are the way to go. The al dente chewy noodles match perfectly. Chashu — I tried both the chicken and pork on separate visits. The pork belly slices were marbled with fat and had a sweet barbecue flavor. Very good. However, I would recommend the chicken as being the better complement to the delicate shio. Toppings — shavings of yuzu provide a delightful citrus blast. Star shaped tofu, onions, spinach(?) and tart, plentiful bamboo shoots add to the healthy springtime feel of this bowl. First rate and a real winner. Hinata has really raised their game. First the Tsukemen and now this bowl, but hurry the Spring Yuzu Shio is a limited time offering.

Service is mixed here, as someone who walked in after I did, got their food before my friend and I. Hanita Remen is alright, but be advised that I did not order ramen here! The pork, rice bowl was delicious. Juicy pork with seaweed and green onion rice was a really nice addition to the dish. Be sure to try this and then the roast pork buns. Hanita Ramen is well done in the pork department, not the service department. It takes a while for the food to come despite the restaurant only having a few patrons! Be sure, you also have cash, as your wallet will also be lighter too.

Had the Kara Ramen and really enjoyed it. One bowl was satisfying. However, it’s a bit overpriced at $ 14.70, and worse, they don’t take credit cards(so I had to tack on another $ 2 to use their atm). Including tip, a bowl of ramen cost me $ 20. That’s just too much. Your in the epicenter of the western world running a restaurant in 2016 – take credit cards!

Spring is around the corner!(even though it just snowed this morning…) Stopped by Hinata today, found out they have a new spring special(bye bye Black Garlic Ramen, you were awesome…) — Japanese Citrus Ramen!!! Now i’m sure you guys are like«citrus? in ramen? bleh!» but you just gotta try– the citrus used is yuzu, and it was super refreshing against the famous rich and almost creamy chicken broth they use in the soup here. Topped with menma and broccolini, it even has a little ofu shaped like cherry blossoms in it– very cute touch. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

The food looks good, but taste so so… the soup always is cold… which is not people looking for when they choose to eat Ramen soup on winter, it seems like don’t know how long they put on a side… and the worse thing is, here is cash only…

Ordered 2 ramen for take-out. They let me know they ran out of big plastic bowls for take-out at last minute. The Japanese guy in glasses(staff) was very rude, expecting me to have big bowls in the office. Let alone being sorry for their mistakes, he doesn’t have any sort of respect towards the customers. Love the food but that guy, not so much.

I don’t like spicy and I don’t like overly salty broth. I LOVE the Paitan ramen with pork and wavy noodles. I always add a soft boiled egg & bamboo shoots but there are alot of additions to choose from. The pork buns are good, not the best but I really come for the noodles. The staff is nice. Ramen never fails, I feel all warm and cozy whenever I leave. Cash only & they just started doing take out :-)

Not a bad ramen place… definitely not the best I’ve had, but was decently good. I got the Kara(spicy) ramen and pork gyoza. The pork gyoza was actually really delicious and I probably liked it more than the ramen. The noodles were cooked well, but I felt the broth was a little too salty and didn’t really have a lot of other flavor? It also wasn’t spicy at all. However, it was fairly prices, $ 13 – 14(gyoza was $ 5), which is cheaper than places like Ippudo or Momofuku. Service was also friendly and quick, and the décor has a cute rustic look. If I’m ever in the area and want ramen, I might go there again, but probably won’t make the trek up just for that place!

It was very quiet on the night that we came, which was perfect because we were catching up with friends. it’s a cash only place, but they have an ATM in the store, if you’re caught without. We got the lotus chips to start, which we felt were greasy. The crispy chicken skin was also greasy, but duh. Between the four of us we got Yasai, Nikumiso, and Tsukemen ramen. We all enjoyed it and felt that the portions were big. I loved the wavy noodles. My husband got the plum wine, which was delicious. My plum cocktail was also very nice. I will definitely go back.

More like a 3.5 star ramen place, given the fact that there are so many good ramen places around(Totto, hide-chan, Nishidasho-den, etc). We ordered the chicken broth ramen with hard boiled egg added. Their straight noodle was able to absorb the soup base completely so very flavorful there; however I felt like their soup base was less creamy to begin with… Also, expect to add more extra toppings. Cash only place, taking away the 0.5 star. I would only expect an outstanding place to ask for cash-only privilege. Sorry.

I’m glad I gave this place a shot. Recently, I’ve been on a mission to check out the places with«lower» star reviews. At the time of writing this, this place has 3.5 stars. Most Unilocalers, like myself, would definitely overlook these kinds of places. But you shouldn’t! I got the Nikamiso ramen. It was stuffed with bamboo, bean spouts thinly sliced wood ear mushroom and delicate pork belly cuts. The chicken broth is not too oily and doesn’t sit heavy in my stomach. They aim for a «healthier» take on their ramen. You can decide on the type of noodle — I went with the wave. The only mild complaint I would have is the need for more noodles. Yum! I also got the pork gyoza. Pretty good. Reminds me of my friend’s Japanese mother’s cooking. :) Overall, this little ramen joint is perfect for those cold NYC afternoons. Next time I’ll have to try the black garlic ramen.

Non msg filled organic chicken broth ramen!!! Please say I do. Appetizers are on the small side but tasty. The fried chicken, shishito peppers, lotus roots chips were all yummy. In the mood for variety? You have an option for a smaller bowl of ramen along with the side to make a combo. I opted for the large bowl of wavy noodles. Definitely will be returning when I crave a nice warm bowl of tasty ramen.

Here to spread the gospel about their Black Garlic Ramen!(their winter special– $ 14.50) you’re in for a treat– same creamy rich chicken broth but with black garlic oil, crispy roast garlic chips, woodear mushrooms, green onion and chashu(i think they seared it this time? it was extra tasty!) Super rich and extremely satisfying– wish they would keep it on as a regular and not a seasonal ramen!

What a hidden gem! The broth is absolutely delicious! I recommend the paitan pork with wavy noodles! The lotus chips are also pretty good! As for dessert just get the almond pudding it’s yummy! The star deduction is for service, don’t think the server liked us very much… Maybe he was just having a bad day. But we weren’t even rowdy. He also forgot one of our orders when we reminded him twice. All in all I’ll be back for the ramen and broth! It was that good!!!

It’s a small place half-subterranean. The employees here are all Japanese. We ordered two bowls of ramen, both were good. The soups were on the heavier side, but I think it’s just a taste preference people have. I really like to drink all the soup with my ramen without feeling like I have to drink a gallon of water later from the salt. In any case, the ramen is over $ 10 but it’s a good size. You get to choose the type of noodles you want. Straight, wavy, etc. You can also make your own ramen, but all the ingredients add up and you’ll pay a lot more for the bowl. I got one of the ramen that had corn and ground pork and pork belly. Delicious! Also a bit spicy. I also got to try the vegetarian ramen which is not bad either. I suggest not coming during prime lunch hour, as this is an office area. You will be waiting.

So finally I made it to the place which is literally around the corner from my job… very quirky quaint the décor is but decent… as most ramen places I am learning they don’t do take out for the noddles but hey we all need to slow down and smell the roses right. The noddles are really good and the broth is chicken based which I don’t think is traditional. The appetizers are always interesting and delish. And the most important is they are inexpensive. Drawback of things(because electronic everything has made us lazy) you must pay in «Cash», but trust it is worth it. They are in the lunch rotation when I want to smell the roses and actually taste and chew my food lol.

My wife and I were walking down the street and felt a chill. Earlier this morning it was 70 degrees and tonight is probably about 60 degrees and soup was in the air. We Unilocaled for a ramen place and found this one. My wife and I both ordered ramen soup with the squiggly noodles and it was delicious. The broth with piping hot and yummy. It came with a side of seaweed dried seaweed that we added to our soups which game and even more flavor. Then we ordered the pork dumplings which came in a hot sizzling metal plate so when you looked at the dumplings they were crispy on the bottom side excellent taste

3.5 stars, rounding down to 3 bc it’s a bit pricy. My husband and I came for lunch last Friday. The wait here isn’t as bad as Hide-Chan a few blocks way, so you can actually have a sit-down lunch without spending 1.5−2hrs away from the office. I ordered the Mentai Don(baby sardine and spicy cod roe over rice) and he got the spicy Kara Ramen. The spicy Kara Ramen was decent but a little bit bland. The Metai Don was really good, briny and spicy, and the sprinkling of refreshing shiso leaves complemented fishiness of the baby sardines and cod roe. Overall the ramen is ok, but not as good or as cheap as Hide-Chan. I’d come back for the Mentai Don though.

Hinata is a cash only organic chicken broth ramen place in midtown. It is quite unassuming on the 55th Street block. They offer lunch specials and happy hour specials on weekdays and weekends as well. The space is quite small with a modern look to it with an open kitchen area separated by plexiglass. They use organic chicken for their broth and topping, the sliced pork is also berkshire pork and touts no MSG. You can choose thick wavy noodles, thin straight noodles, vegan wavy noodles, or rice noodles. I went with the Kara Ramen $ 13.50 which is spicy with thick wavy noodles and topped with sliced pork, corn, menma, spinach, and seaweed. Since I was there for a weekend lunch, I opted to add the pork gyoza for +$ 5 more. The gyoza was nicely seared and had a tiny bit of this green herbal spiced relish to put on top. They were flavorful and juicy. The ramen broth was nice and rich with a nice heat to it. It was very smooth and had a velvety texture. It doesn’t have as much depth as Totto but still very good. The ingredient toppings mixed in well. Overall the service was nice, friendly, and quick.

First of all — NOMSG concept attracts me! Second, having an all-Japanese staff signals that I am having authentic Japanese ramen soup. Third, the sliced pork on top of my ramen melts in my mouth. Fourth — the ramen noodle is aldente. Fifth, the price is right! The umami? The flavor in the ground pork adds a zing to my soup. I also ordered a pork belly bun for the set menu. Although it was good pork and softest bun you can have, I wish it had scallions, some mayonnaise in it, and siratcha. They did give me some Japanese pepper — it looked like Togarashi. Well, I sure have a new place to go for ramen in this city of food!
