Service is just okay. The ramen at here doesn’t worth it’s price– you can get better ramen at the same price at Nishita shotan and Zundo-Ya.

Hide chan has a ton of competitions in the city, and to be more specific, it has Totto right next door. Overall, hide chan would probably get an C+ overall if we were still in school. Environment — hide chan has an Japanese restaurant feel when you walk in. Clean spot. Japanese sushi bar in the back and plenty of tables. Added bonus — walking up to the restaurant on the 2nd floor, they have posters that show the estimated wait line which is convenient. Service — service was very courtesy as we came here on an Friday night around 10. Place was still bustling with people strolling in from happy hour. We sat at the bar in the back. Waiters were attentive. Filled our water and somehow always showed up when we needed them to order something. — went from 1 to 2 stars here. Food — if this is TL: DR. You can stop here as the food was disappointing. My friend and I ordered: 1. deluxe ramen with wavy and medium firmness. Pretty cool option to choose straight or wavy and firmness of the noodle! However, the broth was way too oily and had an odd tasting pork taste to it. I had to order the hot sauce(1.50 — an ripoff) to cover the taste of the broth. The noodles tasted like Instant ramen noodles and the pork slices were way too salty. Just not an good bowl of ramen — not recommended 2. Fried chicken — this was actually okay. Came out piping hot. However, some pieces were too doughy and actually one piece was all dough and pure fat on the inside. Also, price is an rip off. 6 pieces for 7 dollars 3. Iced Oolong tea — this was an big disappointment as we saw the drink being made. Comes from a store bought bottle with ice. At the price point of 2.50, at least attempt to brew tea and add ice. Lame. Price — ramen prices and appetizers are in line with other ramen shops in midtown east store. Alcoholic and HH specials were pretty good.

One of my top 5 ramen joints in NYC. I’ve tried most(at least 3) types of their ramen noodles. The broth has great flavor and texture. The hakata spicy black garlic isnt really spicy but tastes great. Pro tip: when ordering the black garlic ramen, ask for the black garlic on the side so that way you can share it with others. It’s plenty. It costs $ 1 as an add-on normally. I usually get my noodles firm and wavy, you can choose your preference which is awesome. Another note is that they are moderatly priced, I believe ramen starts from $ 12 and up. I prefer hide chan over ipuddo any day of the week. Last thing: After midnight on Fridays they offer FREE extra noodles(kaedama)

One word: MEH. Ordered the«Classic Ramen» and it comes with two pieces of sliced pork, a lot of scallions, and kikurage mushrooms. I also ordered the poached egg topping since there wasn’t much toppings in the ramen anyway. I picked the wavy noodles in firm texture and was cooked perfectly to my liking. I thought the ramen was OK but it was salty and I didn’t finish the broth. Service was fine. The place was slightly busy when I came on a late Sunday afternoon and waited a bit for a seat. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the ramen selections and the menu was a bit boring.

Obsessed with this place. I bring every guest here now! Think I’ve tried them all and my favorite is still the Classic(with sprouts). Bonito and miso are close seconds. And the bun and gyoza(#3) are a must when you’re here! This place is too good! No reservations, walk in only!

I arrived at 6:20pm on a weekday and was surprised at the short 5 – 10 minutes wait. It’s funny how Hide-Chan is right next to(technically above) Ippudo. The line for Hide-Chan starts to go down the steps at around 6:30pm. This is also when their Happy Hour(50% off drinks and appetizers) end so I would recommend coming here earlier anyway. Our waitress was very sweet and had no problem taking our Happy Hour orders at 6:30 on the dot. The two of us ordered 3 appetizers, 2 drinks, and 2 bowls of ramen(love how we can customize the firmness and shape of the noodles). It came out to around $ 30pp and we left with full stomachs. Hide-Chan is a solid ramen place.

I came here with a few friends for dinner. We shared the takoyaki and it was overly doused in too much sauce. I got the kogashi(Sliced pork(2pcs), cod roe, scallion, onion, boiled egg) with thin firm noodles. I love that they asked how we wanted our noodles. I haven’t really been asked before. The broth was pretty tasty but very very salty. The sliced pork was super dry and almost inedible.

Noodles were al dente and well made but the broth was so oily which downgraded my experience. Is this how they do it in Japan? Not a fan.

I really enjoyed this ramen joing Pork buns were on point, good(wouldn’t say they were the best i’ve had though) Gyoza was great, definitely nice thin skin, would order again. Ordered the spicy garlic ramen. Super flavorful, not that salty initially but its the type of saltiness that sneaks up on you and punches you with desert mouth later on. Added on bamboo shoots and poached egg. Clutch move. The spicy garlic ramen definitely one of the tastiest I’ve had so far in the city, for regular miso I still prefer totto next door. Definitely would come back, great to have two great places side by side.

THEYACCEPTCREDITCARD! When I first had Totto Ramen’s signature Chicken Paitan ramen, I absolutely loved it! But when I found out about THIS spot, I was especially excited because they provided the traditional Pork Broth. I’ve recently discovered that I’m more accepting of different broths, as long as it’s savory. I’m more critical about noodles and how they’re cooked. I ordered the Miso Pork Broth Ramen($ 13) I’ve gotta say, Hide-Chan did a great job with the noodles. As for the pork broth, it WAS delicious, but nothing I haven’t had before. Don’t get me wrong, the broth is top-tier here. #rhymes Chasu pork was tasty, but I prefer a more melt-in-your-mouth sensation #pause when it comes to chasu! We also ordered the Chasu Pork Buns($ 3 each) which were very flavorful and like I said, not my ideal chasu, but they were great nonetheless. I loved the feel of the place and the décor was unique. They’ve got the Japanese frills and a collection of colorful masks hanging up on the wall. I also didn’t feel like I was on top of the other people eating around me. Service was awesome. Our waitress checked on us several times; she and the busser made sure our empty plates were bussed and waters were always filled.

Remember when ramen joints weren’t all about frill? I’m glad to discover the Spicy Garlic isn’t a seasonal item. I’ve always been clingy and it’d particularly bad if I had to break-up with a bowl of ramen. Yes, that was a threat. The broth is darker than black coffee and darker than a moonless night. It makes my heart dense with garlic and joy. I’m still trying to figure out the difference between«heat» and«spice. All I know is this bowl has one but not the other… heat? On Mondays and Tuesdays, their lunch special includes a free topping. ONE! Don’t make the same mistake I did. Go with the extra garlic paste; take my dead dad’s advise«if you’re going to do something, do it right». Get the garlic paste and wear a condom. Side note: The charsiu doesn’t quite have the char in charsiu I’m looking for.

Awesome casual ramen spot. I live near the area and this is my go to spot when I’m craving ramen(which is at least once a week) I usually order spicy pork buns, teriyaki chicken avocado don, and the spicy miso ramen. The spicy pork buns are classic — not spicy at all but always tasty. The teriyaki chicken avocado don is a great side dish with a decent amount of crispy chicken, rice, and avocado. The ramen is very flavorful(although also not spicy at all) and comes with the option to choose your noodle preference. I usually get wavy, firm, and no onions. Hide-Chan is a great ramen spot for a reasonable price and if you don’t go during peak lunch hours, there’s usually no wait.

The vegetarian Ramen was amazing-had lots of veggies in it as well as flavor. I didn’t realize you can choose if you want straight or wavy noodles and the firmness of the noodles so that was kind of cool. The edamame was one of the best I’ve ever had and only $ 4. We were given some trouble for not being able to take Ramen to go but other than that, it was delicious.

The ramen here is pretty good! It’s a flight of stairs up near Totto Ramen and can be a tad confusing to find because of that. But find it. And have the spicy pork buns. And the spicy garlic ramen.

SOLID ramen spot where you can choose between wavy thicker noodles or straight thin noodles AND you can choose your noodle firmness They quoted us a 1 hour wait but it was prob more like 30 min since the turn around time is quick –spicy garlic ramen: good amount of heat and lots of good flavor! The pork belly slices were a little fatty for me and didn’t have that char but it went well with the ramen. I ordered firm noodles but I think I’d go with extra firm next time because I prefer a little more bite NOTE: they now serve rice burgers too

I have been to Hide-Chan a couple of years ago, and had a ramen there. I remember it was good, not sure if it was memorable… This time, we wanted Japanese food, but not really in the mood for ramen that day, and we did not realize they don’t offer other main dish other than ramen… We decided to order few small plates. We ordered Regular Gyoza, Pork Buns, and Fried Chicken. We got our food almost as soon as we put in the order, that led me to believe they were NOT made to order. I rather wait for the food to be prepared fresh, instead of being just sitting around there under the hot heat lamps. Fried Chickens were ok, but not great. Looked a little too fried(charred). I certainly had much better ones elsewhere… The pork buns had a bit too much sauce which was a bit too salty. The gyoza was too sticky, they were completely attached to each other. They came falling apart as we tried to separate them. Overall, we were disappointed with food and service — especially with the service. We did not get refill on water or hot tea. None of the waitress/staff came to check on us, not once, until we finished eating and it was time to pay. We felt like we were not important customers to them, maybe because we didn’t order the main dish(ramen)? I believe every customer is as important, regardless of how much food and drink they order. LEGITRAMENJOINT. The Legit Ramen House Test: Is the joint filled with Japanese natives, slurping up bowl after bowl of luxurious fatty pork based broth?! If yes, you’ve got a legit ramen house! Hide-Chan’s waiting line goes up a 20+ steps, narrow staircase too so it can get tight while you are waiting for your incredible bowl of tonkotsu ramen. But getting intimate with strangers doesn’t stop the constant flow of people waiting for a seat. Even with Totto Ramen opening up in the same building on the 1st floor, people still keep lining up. Wavy or Straight? Extra firm or firm? HideChane offers it’s patrons ultimate noodle control for whatever ramen experience your heart desires. Wavy and Extra Firm alllll dayyyyy for this rameniac! The fried chicken is absolutely amazing too, with this unique fried breading and Japanese-y spice blend, rounded out with this rich mayo sauce. Damn delicious! Goyoza and pork belly bun were solid too, but nothing to write home about. Everyone is here for ramen and the miso ramen star which is filled with floating bits of garlic or fatty globules of deliciousness never disappoints. Personally I’m not a huge fan of these flat wooden spoons, as I prefer the deeper traditional Asian spoon or the oversided one that you get at Ippudo. But damn is the pork-based broth here good. And the noodles! Oh the extra firm, wavy yellow noodles! They have that perfect springyness and snap to them. The perfect kind of wavy noodle. Hide-Chan has been around since the early NYC ramen days and it’s a testament to how good their ramen is. Go give it a taste yourself and you won’t be disappointed!

Great find! It’s upstairs from the famous Totto ramen, and much more spacious. First, go up a small set of stairs, and at the top you’ll find plenty of nice seating, divided into separate areas to give a nice intimate feel. I love the décor. We were here for ramen, which was delicious, but couldn’t help but order some of the other offerings. 1. Takoyaki balls: This was so great. Lightly battered and fried, soft center with a piece of octopus in the middle. Slight drizzle of ponzu sauce. Not too heavy. 2. Teriyaki chicken avocado don: As a Californian, I love avocado. This was ordered to fulfill that craving, and overall, it did a pretty good job. It’s a good bowl of rice for the price, although I wish the avocado were slightly creamier. The teriyaki chicken was good though. It’s a perfect side complement to your main dish. 3. Deluxe ramen: I had to go all out. You can add lots of stuff to it for extra, but I just wanted the soft boiled egg. It was a delicious bowl of ramen, up there with the best. I feel like ramen always tastes better when it’s cold outside! 4. Veggie ramen: I didn’t try this, but it looks really good. My friend loved it, as it had a lot of fresh veggies in it with a nice broth. 5. Almond tofu: I’ve had so much mochi ice cream in life that I just wanted something different. This was different. I love Chinese almond tofu, which is very silky. This has a denser, Euro flan type of texture, but still has a nice almond taste to it. I liked it.

A small little place tucked away in the corner of Manhattan. We dropped in for a quick bite before hitting the City. Wasn’t expecting much but wow did they surprised us! The place was buzzing and packed with people! Lucky we got in early(12pm, 15 minute wait) or else we’ll be lining up for ages! The ramen here is all of the rich, porky, «tonkotsu» variety. My deluxe ramen was a terrific mash-up of textures and flavors: crunchy kikurage mushrooms, fresh bamboo shoots, melting egg, sharp scallions, soft, sweet pork and a tangle of springy noodles. Opaque, thick and almost creamy in texture, the broth is intensely flavorful without relying on a heavy hand with salt(though yes, most ramen is salty). This isn’t refined food. It’s full of life, in-your-face food, and extremely delicious. If the only ramen you’re used to eating is heated in the corporate dining-room microwave, you should get out of that stuffy office building and climb Hide-Chan’s stairs! Besides the slight wait, everything else was perfect: the ramen texture, the balance, the strong flavorsome broth. This little restaurant is a «must visit» place for quality ramen! Thumbs up!
