My absolute favorite bar in the city. Roomy, never crowded, no frills. Great seasonal drinks when they have it(my favorite is a gin martini with a touch of earl grey infused syrup). A must if you just want good drinks and be able to talk with someone. Don’t be intimidated if no one else is there — that’s the beauty of it! This is a cocktail lounge so if you want a beer or a wine, don’t expect much of the selection that they have. The only thing that sucks is that I tried to go there two weekends ago and it was closed — looks like they lost their liquor license and are trying to get it back. Hope they reopen again soon!

Cool space — especially the den-like back rooms but the bar left much to be desired. No draft beer and a weak wine selection. Not a bad place to meet up with a group of friends though.

Very nice upscale lounge that is roomy, classy and hidden. I went on a saturday night for a birthday party and was shocked to discover how large the venue is and how reasonable the drinks are. This would definitely be a great place to either have a birthday party without the crazy bottle service fees you pay in the city or have some type of work event. Everyone seemed like Yuppies on a Saturday night but was there to just have a good time. Trendy place. Good music. Good drinks. Win-Win. I would go back. Period.

alpine themed club(rolls eyes). so was surprised to find a cool mix of after-workers and overflow from Ace Hotel lobby types. no poseurs here, just folks of the chill variety drinking, mingling, romancing to good(mostly) music. okay for a drink if nearby. and frostbit.

This is the perfect place for young urban professionals. One of my girlfriends was on her way to Gstaad for a late night/casual networking event and we followed her like a herd of sheep. Addendum: My decision to put aside my textbooks and go to Gstaad was THE best decision I made in the new year thus far. There is no cover fee. Check. The drinks are cheap. A vodka tonic was $ 9, I think. Check. The music is loud enough so drunk girls could get their groove on. But not too loud that you can’t network/mingle/chat someone up. Check. There are long couches with tables all along the perimeter for bottle service. Check. The people are good looking. Double check. This might be our new Friday night.

Gstaad is a chic setting with an ultra-modern log cabin feel… You can’t miss it with the big Swiss flag outside. Cool bathrooms and apparently the back room with couches is free to reserve… Gstaad’s laid back vibe and trendy setting make it an A in my book. Recommend if… A) You’re gathering with a group of friends and wanting a fun back private room that’s free to reserve. B) You don’t like overcrowded places… just enough people that it was interesting and you could get a drink quickly, but not bare so there’s plenty of people to check out. C) You like hip hop music… went on a Friday night and they played a nice set of smooth, rhythmic rhymes(i.e. A Tribe Called Quest).

This a great bar for young working professionals or group get-togethers. The bar has a chic, candlelit atmosphere and a private room in the back that’s reminiscent of a cozy ski lounge. It’s both modern and comfortable and the bartenders are always fun and willing to party with their customers. My favorite bartenders are Matt, Aaron, and Sarah — they’re always down for a good time! The other barfolk are usually of a younger crowd so it’s an ideal place for a date or hook-up scouting. ;-) A good rotation of bottled beers, a lovely seasonal cocktail menu with bubbly options, and a clean, interesting bar make this a great stop-off before dinner or after work.

I went to a holiday gathering here and it is very nicely set up. The bar is long so you should not have a problem finding space to order a drink! There’s a few seating areas in the front and towards the back. There were a few bridge and tunnel people, but I didnt let that spoil the evening! I even saw a party of asians celebrating a birthday with a 3 tier hello kitty fondant cake!

Came here for a High School reunion. Pretty sure we did not rent out the bar, but the place was essentially just our classmates, granted it was a Wednesday. The bartenders were friendly, but the drinks were pricey. Being fairly drunk, I only remember odds and ends, but I thought I paid $ 10 for two bottled beers before tip(cheap). But my friends said it was about $ 8/shot. HOWEVER, negotiation was on the table. Wish I could remember more, but then again, who wants to remember their high school reunion. They may have had music?

This is a decent bar. For some reason, I had trouble finding it though. Went to support a friend’s fundraiser for BAP — Bicycles Against Poverty. Check it out here: I had a glass of pinot grigio. The bartenders are friendly. They should turn the music down a notch; my friends and I had to yell at the top of our lungs.

I immediately recognized the Alpine theme that Gstaad had going for it. Plus 1 point for showing a snowboarding video on the wall. Subtract 0.5 point for it being on a short loop, and subtract another 0.5 point for low resolution. Price is Average. Crowd is tame. My return would definitely depend on the company of people I would go with there. No one was busting a move so Gstaad moves down on my priority list.

My first impression: wow it’s dark in here. Aside from the lighting of the place I really enjoyed my visit. They had a live DJ spinning when I went in and the selling point was definitely the large open space they had. Surprisingly, no one dancing even though there was a live DJ. Bartenders were pretty cool and the drinks prices were fair. $ 9 for my jack and coke no complaints here. However, I did have to tell them to go easy on the ice bc halfway through my first drink I was drinking water already. Blegh. They also have this nook kind of room that we called«the bunker» because it seriously looks like one. You’ll see what I mean when you get there. Bottom Line: It’s one of those places you’ve heard of where you really can’t see the what the person looks like that you’re talking to. However, if you like to be able to see what the person you’re talking to looks like. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

This was a strange, futuristic style bar with«pods» for bathrooms and designed like a spaceship of sorts. It was eerily empty on a Friday night at around happy hour time with a few Ikea like high tables and seats on the sidelines, onto which we squeezed. Sometimes your heart gives a glad leap at being in a quiet bar with ample space but Gstaad just gives you a disquieting feeling that makes you wonder if it’s empty for a reason. The drinks were expensive($ 9 for a glass of wine at happy hour time?) and the clientele did not improve as the night went on. Hmm, I just had this déjà vu, this flashback memory of having been to Gstaad years ago for some random event that I left in a hurry for. So I might have been there when it was a more happening place, but my latest experience(the one I remember) wasn’t so great.

My rating is really a 2.5 but I decided to round down rather than up. Went here last night for my roommate’s co-worker’s birthday and I must say that my review is on the venue space rather than the people I was with, because I had a nice time and enjoyed meeting everyone. Anyway, Gstaad is really small, which I guess I wasn’t expecting. Luckily we had this hidden back room where there are couches and tables — definitely an improvement from standing in a crowded room right near the bar. I also liked the log cabin feel to the room. Once people started leaving, I enjoyed the space more because it was a comfortable place to sit, sip wine, and talk to friends. The music was not great, but tolerable and I’m not sure what was playing on their large flatscreen TV. I had two glasses of white wine and I’m not sure on the price. My roommate had no cash so she had to pay a $ 30 minimum on her card which was pretty frustrating I can imagine.

Wow, Gstaad, I’ve been here twice, the last time I was here(2007), this place was pretty lame. This time I was invited to celebrate my college buddy’s 27th B-day. It’s definitely a «hit or miss» as Miles H. states. The drinks are expensive, there’s no coat check. I must admit I had fun, because it consisted mostly of old college friends. But this is my main problem, Gstaad would’ve been a lot better, if they had better DJ’s.(For example, how do you play reggaeton, get the crowd mad hype, and then kill it by playing Madonna’s Like a Virgin afterwards, WTF?). The music was OK, the sound quality at times had way too much base. The DJ did this on several occasions causing a mass exodus to flee Gstaad, after doing this more than twice I too ventured off to another spot. Gstaad, I only like you cause you’re spacious, have enough places to sit. I dislike you cause you don’t have a coat check, you have hooks on the sides of the tables, and your DJ’s are slightly below average. Drinks are good!

Interesting décor which changes a lot(one time there was snowboarding videos up on the walls…) It’s literally a big room with the bar on the right and then seating on the left in front of the bar. That’s it. Not too complicated – can be positive(can’t get lost!) or negative(not much to see) It was kind of dead when we were there with a bunch of indian people but then again I was there for my friend’s birthday and she’s indian haha. I got to see a bunch of my friends though! Love that part :) Two stars for good drink prices + clean bathrooms.

Music sucks. How the hell are you supposed to dance to Mariah Carey’s «I’ll be loving you long time»??? It’s too slow. Sound system itself was whack. Ummm…yeah. Enough said.

Hmmm… I’m trying to think of something memorable about this place. And I just went there last night! Oh I know, no drama at the door. Then again, Saturday night, perhaps that should have been a sign… pros: no door drama enough space semi-danceable large bar with easy access cons: B&T above 14th street *NOT* multi-culti or mixed crowd at all very generic layout white walls and bland horrible crackling sound system playing generic hits Ok, I’m done with this review. 2 stars is generous.

I recently co-celebrated my birthday with two other friends on a Saturday night, and the reason we picked Gstaad was due to pure convenience. We were looking to continue the night out after our intimate apartment party, and Gstaad happened to be the one that seemed both close and casual, and one that provided the least weekend door drama. Surprisingly, the place was packed! So much for a relaxing birthday party! Hearsay tells me that before the dampened economy, there was a line to get into this place, so I felt relieved that we all could get in sans problem. I’d like to give Gstaad 4 – 5 stars for the fun I had, but really, that was due to amazing company, rather than the elements of the venue itself. Still, Gstaad is cool and tries to impress upon the visitor a hip, après-ski feel with the loud music, large screen of skiing and snowboarding scenes, and a sleek, lit bar that gives off some winter glow. In the back, there is a makeshift coat check($ 1) and two unisex bathrooms, as well as a cute but doorless lodge room for«private» events. Think«Heidi». Frankly, IMHO, there is no meaning to the word«private room» if it’s doorless since random drunk people could walk in. It’s obvious that exclusivity is not Gstaad’s forte. Overall, the place is spacious, and on one side, there are seats but they seem to be reserved for coats and personal belongings. Be prepared to stand at Gstaad or pounce on an empty bar stool when it becomes free. I’m not sure how Gstaad markets its business during non-winter seasons, but right now in December, the Swiss-Alps theme works in its favor.

I *want* to like this place. The space isn’t bad. Roomy, sleek, and sporting really really cool bathrooms, it’s a decent place to grab a reasonably priced beer or mixed drink. But, this venue is a symphony of ‘so-so’s’ I’ve never had bad service here, but its never been exceptional. The drinks aren’t watered down, but certainly aren’t panty droppers. There’s usually never a line at the door, but sometimes, in a frustrating way, its inexplicably slammed(though usually empty). The crowd is usually cool, unless it sometimes isn’t. Swiss kitsch aside, this place isn’t a bad place to check out, especially if the other Flatiron staples are too slammed to enter. However it’s not particularly great at the same.
