They got evicted! as of 3÷5÷13. Walked by today and saw the sign.

Great neighborhood bar! I needed to plan a big party on a weeknight for over 100 people, and decided to host it at Bar 29. The event was seamless. The management was very eager to help me plan my big event(which involved hijacking all of the TVs for 30 minutes to air my TV show of choice during happy hour). I look forward to hosting another party here in the future.

We were looking for a nice place to go to hang out, talk, and chill with friends on a Friday night. At first, we went to PS450, which was WAY too loud for any conversation. This place was perfect! It’s not too big and not too crowded. We were able to find tables and seats very easily. The bathroom was also pretty clean, which is a huge plus for a bar. They have a single pool table… we had to wait a little while to play but it wasn’t bad. They also have a digital jukebox, which is a nice touch. The only downside was their selection of beer wasn’t the greatest, but that’s just me. :)

4 bottles of beer and 4 car bomb shots = $ 41? I’m a fan. Was there during Santa-con so I can’t give it an appropriate description. Murray Hill location. Syracuse bar. I expect the crowd matches the neighborhood. The place was clean, location right, as was price. Win for the day.

This was a pretty cool, chill place to go during happy hour on a friday night. Bartender was super cool and did awesome drinks for us. The vibe here wasn’t too crazy, but that’s only because everyone was probably still at work. Anyways, definitely a good spot to get some beer, and good beer on tap before 8pm. I won’t reveal too much, you need to get here to find out, it’s definitely worth the trip. Oh and try the jalapeño poppers, freshly made for us when I ordered them.

Met a couple of buddies for drinks after work on a Friday afternoon. They chose the rooftop and it was a great choice. The first and second floors were your typical bar/restaurant layout. The rooftop space was small but roomy. The big screen tv on the wall was a great touch. Good selection of drinks but they didn’t seem to have your run of the mill beers(no Coors light, etc). But the imports didn’t disappoint. Price-wise it’s comparable to the area. Would definitely check it out again when I’m back in the area.

I try to avoid this part of Manhattan when it comes to drinking because 1) I live in the area so why play here, too? And 2) It’s usually frat-boy central. However, I read some decent reviews for Bar 29 and decided to call and reserve a section for my birthday. Making the reservations were simple, however, I had to call 3 separate times to get my confirmation. Once that was straightened out, we arrived a few days later and I told the bartender we were there for my birthday. She quickly let us choose where we wanted to sit(we wound up near the pool table in the back) and gave me 3 drink tickets. I was going to bump my rating for them to 4 stars simply because of the tickets but ehh. The bar didn’t become all too crowded even though it was a Saturday night. It also wasn’t pretentious like the rest of this part of town. Luckily, two of my guy friends raided the jukebox and changed the previously crappy music over to metal, which was much appreciated. There is also a dart board in the back and plenty of tables to sit at so you’re not constantly balancing your drink. I didn’t have much direct interaction with the bartenders but the drinks they made were strong and how can you screw up a shot of Jameson? Overall, this is a decent bar in a part of town that usually makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs out of frustration of being surrounded by frats. Oh, and I hear they show ALL sports games here. This is a perk to me.

solid bar in an area of the city I rarely visit, but swung by for a birthday. nothing extraordinary on tap, but the mixed drinks are pretty good. pool table in the middle of the room is kind of odd — if you stand or sit at the tables behind it, you’re gonna be in the way. oh, fix the ventilation system — it was like a sauna in here! it was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night in a Manhattan bar. not a problem really. you bet your sweet ass that me and Phil loaded the jukebox with metal. bahahaha!

I rarely find myself in this part of Manhattan but a friend’s birthday brought me to this relaxed bar. I was afraid it would be a little get fratty as the night progressed, given the hood it’s in, but it was rather laid back, unpretentious and not packed for a Saturday night. Some bar Bar 29 gave her drink tickets, which although I didn’t ask the deets, I assume meant she got free drinks. That and they also gave us a few on the house! I like that there’s a pool table and darts at the back of the bar but because the bar is a bit narrow, the chance of you hitting someone in the stomach with the cue stick was very likely. Conveniently located a couple blocks away from the 28th St 6th train.

Decent bar in the frat city popped collar land known as Murray Hill. As I work literally a stone’s throw away from this bar I know the area pretty well, but it’s normally a stretch I usually avoid as to not be exposed to the stench of douche that permeates the air around here. The bar itself is nondescript and not much about it really stands out, but they do have about a half dozen beers on tap, the bartenders pour a strong drink, and they are easy on the eyes too. Hey, can’t really screw up shots of Jamesons! Kind of a low key crowd seems to hang out here, which was good as a group of us took over the back half of the bar to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We were all sitting at the tables in the back that surrounds a pool table that centers the room. Problem is, there is not much room around it and you occasionally take a pool stick to the crotch if sitting nearby. Dart board is also hanging on the wall right next to it. They also have a chewing tobacco machine, a digital jukebox, and a free cell phone charging station. Yes, free, and you don’t see that in too many bars! Place was not too crowded for a weekend night which was fine by us. Some yokel put on country music but my boy Mike B and I remedied that pretty quickly punching in about twenty metal tunes in succession. A little Metallica and Iron Maiden livened the mood! Seriously though, this place needs to fix the damn AC, or at least put it on. It was a sweat box in there.

Randomly ended up here after dinner in the area — all we wanted was a spot for the 6 of us to congregate comfortably and without being surrounded by general dooshbagery. What do you know — we found that here at Bar 29! Drinks are pretty damned affordable. Hoegaarden on tap. When is that not great? Someone was obviously on a Hall and Oates jukebox kick, and I was unabashedly enjoying it. Ahhh to be over 30… The Yankees rocked Detroit 9 – 3 in game 1 of the ALDS. Aw yeah. Lots of Yankees fans at Bar 29 to holler when Cano smacked his grand slam. :) Bartenders were quick and friendly. The crowd seemed normal and inoffensive for a Saturday night, and while it was certainly busy, it was by no means overwhelming. I’d stop in here anytime!

Bar 29 is a smallish sports bar in Kips Bay, a part of town you don’t usually go to hang out. The bar menu is pizza(not bad), chicken wings(moderate kick) and a few other things. Brooklyn Lager is on tap. There’s a pool table and a dartboard. The tables are screwed into the floor, so if you’ve got a group and plan to shift furniture… move to plan B. The strangest thing about the place is that three people work there. There’s Anthony, the manager, bartender, organizer, everything guy. He’s super friendly and a lot of the patrons seem to come to the place just for him. It’s easy to see why. He must’ve comped our group a dozen beers! Then there’s the Mexican busboy, hard-working, quiet, not noticeably different from the thousands of other Mexican busboys in NY. Without them, nightlife in this city would grind to a halt! There should be a day celebrating all of ‘em! Then there’s this girl-behind-the-bar. Her job is to entertain the same two customers at the far end of the bar from 9pm until closing at 2 or 3 in the morning. She stands the entire night, her attractive derrière facing the rest of the bar patrons… and chats with these guys. Same place, same people. Once I saw someone ask her for a drink. She smiled at him and went back to her job. –Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers, a different bar every week

A good, casual, neighborhood spot. We stopped for a drink pre-dinner. Just a few people there, but perhaps it’s busier on weekend/happy hour days. Reasonably priced.

Bar 29 reminds me of a Gentleman’s Club for some reason. I’ve only been to this bar on weeknights so I don’t know what the weekend scene is like, but the few times I’ve been here, it was filled with men in suits and women in tight dresses. One time we thought a couple of the women were prostitutes. I always feel out of place as a female wearing just a t-shirt and jeans. There’s a pool table in the back(generally taken over by men with groupie women cheering them on the side) and an arcade game or two(last time a tight-dressed woman was playing Big Buck Hunter as a skeezy man at the bar leered). We didn’t get to partake in any of the happy hour specials when we’ve come. The bartenders were friendly, but they were all females in tight attire too and they were definitely schmoozing with all of the male customers sitting at the bar. It looks like most of the reviews of this place are favorable so maybe I just came on offnights or it’s just not my type of place. C’est la vie.

As a Bay Area native in town for work, it’s great to find a bar that has a great atmosphere, drinks, and good music. A few of my friends invited me to this bar, and I’m glad they did as we had a good time here. Not only are there multiple flatscreen tv’s turned onto the games, but also a pool table in the back. The bartenders ensure that you’re taken care of and not neglected. Prices are reasonable, can’t wait to come back here on my next trip!

This place reminded me of college — what a fun crowd! They’ve got a beer pong table set up in the back, complete with a rowdy encircling group of bros + their corresponding bro chicks. Not that I roll with bros(or the chicks), but having them there in the background was fun — total college party atmosphere. Four of us ladies grabbed a little table and had a good time sipping happy hour specials and chatting for an hour and a half on a Saturday evening before dinner. Drinks were really reasonable. Place is happening enough at that time without being crowded. Good upbeat vibe. Music is groovin’ but not loud enough to have to shout. Casual. Good Saturday afternoon hangin.‘ Solid choice for a fun happy hour.

I had never been to Bar 29 until I was looking for a place to host my birthday party. Joe was great and gave me free open bar for 2 hours during my party. The bartender was amazing and made me feel like I was a regular(which I will now be) and was so much fun. There is a pool table in the back for extra fun. The crowd was mixed and laid back and chill. I usually have pretty terrible birthday’s in the city and always regret the places I pick, but this year was definitely one for the books.

Two things brought me here. a taxi. and a groupon. For had it not been for these two things I would not have ventured over to this awesome bar. It must be said that their sandwich menu is severely overlooked! if you get here before 5 pm you should ask for the sandwich menu! Fresh ingredients. Awesome bread. and stellar combinations. My smoked turkey breast with roasted red peppers, arugula, and herbed mayo on pizza bianco bread is still on my mind and i havent eaten one since August.(sad, I know) The beers on tap are awesome! And the bartender that took care of me was not only friendly but extremely knowledgeable. I scored a high five because I ordered his favorite sandwich. Mr. Bartender, it is now my favorite sandwich too. I have to thank Groupon for that enticing offer! and a special thanks to the cab driver who took a chance picking up a passenger that clearly does not live in Manhattan. I hear the night scene at this place is pretty awesome too!

Based on a few Unilocal reviews and some research, I decided to have my birthday party at Bar 29. It seemed like it was a laid back bar without thumping music and space to socialize. It certainly didn’t hurt that it has a jukebox, pool table, and Buckhunter, either. Bar 29 certainly lived up to my expectations. I had reserved a small space through the bar’s event planner. Even though he never told the bartender that we were coming, she was still very warm and gracious, leaving the bar several times to come over to us and see if any of us needed a drink. It was not crowded at all when we arrived — only 5 or 6 people were sitting at the bar at 10pm on a Saturday. Looking forward to going back in the future. Definitely recommend this chill bar in typically hectic Murray Hill.

Definitely one of the better bars in the area. Less fratty, more of the after work crowd. Yes, the people here have jobs, dress business casual, and do not play beer pong. An instant step up from the rest of Murray Hill’s bar selection. I came here on a Wednesday night to hang with a good college friend. They were having 90’s trivia night, and my night instantly went from good to fucking incredible. We played, and with a little help from the people next to us, we won(yeah, you’re lookin’ at beauty AND brains here, honey… or possibly just a 90’s sitcom addict). I like it here. Definitely a great place for some post work drinks. It’s nice, without being too pretentious. A good escape from the rest of the neighborhood trash. Plus, you may actually meet someone here classy enough to take home. Now that is a true accomplishment in the Murray Hill bar scene.
