Arguably one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in NYC, Almayass is a popular place with world-class food, good service and terrific ambiance. We’ve eaten there several times usually sharing a combination of mezzes and grilled dishes all of which are delightful, tasty and fresh. The food is well seasoned and delicious. The service is smart and well paced but not too intrusive. When we had to wait 20 minutes for our table, they comped us drinks and fell all over themselves in apology; the polar opposite of many trendy NYC restos. At the end of the meal the maitre d’ came over seeking feedback and thanking us for our patronage. Almayass is becoming our go-to Mediterranean place!

I came here on a Sunday and it was very quiet, so the dishes came out quickly. Hummus with Cauliflower: it’s delicious with the fried cauliflower. I like the creamy hummus mixed with the crunchy cauliflower. Moutabbal Almayass: mashed beetroot, fresh lemon, sesame paste, garlic. It’s very citrusy, the lemon juice seems to overpower the sweetness of the beetroot. Spicy Potatoes: fried potato cubes, fresh garlic, cilantro. The potatoes had a nice flavor from the fried garlic. Garlic Paste: it’s has the texture of a buttery garlic purée. It’s quite sour, like it has a lot of lemon juice in it. I enjoyed the hummus and the potatoes contrasting to the tangy flavors of the moutabbal and the garlic paste. The dining room is beautiful, it has a classic décor and ambiance.

It is not often they can make a fillet mignon skewer cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was juicy, tasted fresh and everything on the plate tasted great. We did the lunch special, 2 apps, one entrée for $ 27. It was worth it, they give you a lot of food! Delicious food, really classy ambiance and service was great. I am definitely coming back to try more things on the menu! Many people do not get middle eastern correct. It’s either too much quantity but not enough flavor or good flavor but not enough quantity, This place got it down! Left a happy man!

Pardon my ignorance, but the name sounds like where I end up after slipping on black ice. Arrived at this Lebanese spot to pick up their excellent Moutabbal Almayass $ 10.00(Mashed beetroot, fresh lemon, sesame paste, garlic.) with just enough pita for the dip. Shame they didn’t think the bright pink beet spread warranted napkins. Missed their BBEats deal a while back, and came 3+ years after their NYT1=star review.

Had a very bad restaurant week dinner here. The service was condescending and none of the food was good. It was all below average. Tried 6 different dishes. I was very disappointed. The music and decorations are nice but that doesn’t make it worth it.

This place was the best Lebanese/Armenian food I’ve ever had. We came here for girls night, and the family style ordering was perfect for the four of us. We ordered the Armenian salad, Dolma, meat Mantee, Subereg, and the cube filet minion with rice. Portions are on the smaller side, but we ordered enough to be satisfied. They also have a relatively extensive wine and cocktail menu, so each of us enjoyed a glass. We paid about $ 50 a person for the meal. Definitely an expensive venture, but well worth it. Service was decent. The wait staff was attentive at first, but we got sort of neglected towards the end. Our waiter did give some suggestions though, and they were all helpful. The décor is beautiful with a ton of authentic Armenian paintings around. Overall a great place if you’re willing to break the bank and craving some authentic Middle Eastern cuisine in Flat Iron area.

Just called to ask what the menu is for restaurant week which their participating in. A woman answered, named Pam I asked her, was told to hold on and I was disconnected. Called back and asked what the menu is for restaurant week, same woman answered with a rude«WHAT»? Then slams the phone down. Very unprofessional, would never eat here again. I’ve eaten here a couple of times but after having a phone slammed down for inquiring about their restaurant week menu, I would not spend a dime here.

One of the best Lebanese food in the city. Their yogurt is to die for. And they give a great amount of it, plus they can refill it for you(hint, hint). I was barely moving after a dinner, but it was worth it. Will be back to try every single dish on the menu.

This is probably going to be one of my favorite Lebanese restaurants in the city. I came here tonight(Friday night) and we had a reservation. It wasn’t too busy but there were a good amount of people in the restaurant. It is a pretty high class fancy place. Dishes range from $ 24-$ 40 and the appetizers go from $ 6 – 20. We had the hummus amalayass which was delicious. They gave us pita bread both soft and hard and it was an amazing mix with the hummus. For the entrée, we had the chicken toufta, sweet and sour, and the filet mignon cubed. The chicken toufta was great, the sweet and sour had I believe cranberries or raisin of some sort that blended in very well with the meat. I have got to say my favorite was the filet mignon. There was a spicy kick to it. The owner of the restaurant came to us at the end and asked us how we thought the meal was. I liked that he came to us because it showed that our input is valuable to him. Everything there was amazing and I would definitely come back again.

Food falls just short of justifying the prices, but the service is good, as is the overall experience. Choose a wide range of appetizers to share with others and enjoy the Mint Tea!

Had a wonderful dinner at Almayass on a Friday night. Service was wonderful, and all of the food was amazing. Loved the Salma, Dolma, Bereg cheese, and Mantee spinach. Can’t wait to go back next time I’m in New York.

Overpriced for what is it. The hummus is good, but not extraordinary(try the hummus and pine nuts). We got the subereg(baked layered pastry with cheese, think a dainty piece of cheese lasagna). It’s delicious, but pretty small for $ 11 Overall the food isn’t especially elegant or thoughtful, so it’s hard to justify their prices, particularly for Mediterranean food. Service was good, venue is nice. They’re accommodating to large groups, which is why we went.

Fantastic place to eat. Cannot give it more praise. Their kbbeh nayeh is the best I’ve had(chikefteh). I recommend everyone to go here for very good very authentic Lebanese food. Try every mezze. Try the dinner course. You cannot go wrong with any choice.

NYC Take #2 I found Almayass through Open Table because I was looking for a quick and easy way to make reservations. We were staying in Midtown so Flatiron was just a hop away. Almayass contacted me the day before informing me of a dinner party that had booked the majority of the restaurant. They offered to seat us in the lounge instead. We ordered the Hummus Almayass which came with toasted pita bread as a starter. The wine selections were exotic and included a variety from Armenia. Eventually, we settled on a Cabernet which we thought would pair best with our meal. For our main course we ordered both chicken and lamb kebabs and the shrimp from the hot apps. This is the best lamb I have ever had. Our group mutually agreed too. The seasoning was just right. And finally, dessert! Our server suggested the vermicelli and that’s what we went with. I didn’t like it as much because I prefer something very sweet. Overall, we had a great experience from the staff to the food. I would recommend coming here for anyone looking for amazing food!

This place has really good quality food. I’ve never had this type of cuisine before, so I was really looking forward to trying this. I had the quail egg appetizer over the sausage which was highly recommended. I have to say that it was a bit bland. The egg itself was good, but the sausage and baguette didn’t have much flavor. I split one of the entrée platters with a friend which I really enjoyed. I also ordered the baklava for desert, which was good. At the end of the meal, the waiter brought out a bowl of fresh strawberries. A very nice touch. The space itself is very nice and upscale. Definitely a place to go for special occasions.

We love this place so much, we had our wedding reception there! This is a true hidden gem, serving gourmet lebanese cuisine in an enchanting yet classy décor. My favs are definitely the Mantee, the Soujuk Delight, the Lamb Shish Kebab… Oh who am I kidding, I am still trying to find something I do not like on the menu! The service itself is worth 5 stars(best I had in the city, with attentive, friendly, and very professional hosts) but the jewel of the crown is on the lounge site, where one of the most amazing bartender we met is hiding. Trust him blindly with your drinks, you will be happily surprised. I came here on dates, I came here with my family, I came here on business dinners… Almayass never disappoints. Finally, for those of you looking for a place to organize an event, well… we had a 70 people wedding reception there(can easily support 3 times that number), and you see how many stars I am giving to this place! Our experience was so wonderful that one of our guest decided afterwards to also book it for a christening. That says it all…

Me and my wife went here for dinner with a friend living in NY. The restaurant is nice and cozy with a friendly staff. We ordered the hummus almayass which tasted really great. Their tabbouleh was awesome and really fresh. For entrees we had three different ground beef skewers which all we’re nice. There’s only two things that bothered me and that’s; 1. Why doesn’t this kind of place offer meze plates where you get to choose a couple of different plates with for example hummus, labneh, mhamara and so on? 2. Way to pricey! 200 $ without tip for three meze plates, tabbouleh, three entrees with beef skewers and a bottle of ordinary red wine. We’ve had better food for much less. But still it’s Manhattan so what to expect!

Can we just stop for a second and appreciate that there’s finally a place in Manhattan that makes amazing Mediterranean food? I’m an LA native, but I can’t stop talking about my experience at Almayass. This was a find through a family friend, and I’m so glad I decided to give it a try. For those not super familiar with the Mediterranean style, it starts off with appetizers and then, when you’re super full, they bring you the main course: P I had sooo many great things on the menu, but some of my highlights were: — The Hummus: sounds simple, but making good hummus is no easy task, and this place nails it. — The quail eggs with soujouk or basturma: imagine something like a bruschetta, but sooo much better because there’s egg and delicious cured meats involved. — Fattoush Salad: the perfectly semi-sour salad was just the right amount of crunch #lovedit — Garlic Potatoes: If I had one last meal, these would be included … such a great garlic flavor and crispy potatoes! — Mixed Grill: All of their grilled meats were amazing. Perfectly marinated and cooked. Aside from the food, the drinks were also pretty amazing. They have a list of specialty cocktails(the noor is a standout) — but ask for an old fashioned and you won’t be disappointed(one of the best I’ve had to date). Add the amazing food to great service and ambiance, and you have a can’t beat experience in NYC. This place is always at the top of my recommendations when referring friends to restaurants in the city. Stay Cheerful ;)
