Nice people, great value. Needed a poster framed very quickly and they accommodated me. Got it done within 24 hours and didn’t charge me a rush fee. I would absolutely recommend this store.

Midtown Gallery may be one of the best kept secrets in Nashville. Located right off the Vanderbilt campus, they offer a unique gallery of fine art and more. The owner, Gary Tisdale is one of the kindest men you will ever meet. He immediately makes you feel at home. An added bonus is another gallery right next door. So you get two for one. When you’re thinking about art crawls, crawl on over to Midtown. They also frame art.

Like its neighbor Local Color, Midtown Gallery specializes in work by local artists. According to the lady who runs they place, they carry about 65% local work, while the rest is from all over the world. Unlike Local Color, however, Midtown also carries quite a bit of rugs, sculptures and small pieces rather than just large paintings and photographs. Midtown isn’t too pricey, though they do have a few large, complex or rare pieces that can get especially expensive. Midtown seems to be literally bursting with art, and there are small sculptures, portraits and prints crammed into every available space in the building. There are a lot of modern and very stylized paintings, but they also carry many traditional pieces. There is a series of Vanity Fair cartoons from the late 1800s that I found especially neat(and not as expensive as you might expect). Along the side of the store, Midtown has small sculptures as well as plaques that have things like«We all need thyme in our gardens» carved into them. They also seem to have several series by various artists, including some very cool depictions of the Nashville skyline and surrounding area by artist Tony Teal. Midtown is definitely a cool, low-key place to browse through some art. I recommend checking it out.
