Very fun place to go after recital at Vandy. Able to get cookies, teas and coffees — nice way to wind up the evening.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Nashville, if you don’t like JJ’s then you should leave Nashville.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn which is walking distance from this place. We needed consistent Wifi to study and J & J’s had it. This place has a studying atmosphere, literally everyone here is studying and has a quite voice. They have some instrumental music playing but it’s not blasted(it just adds to the studing mood). They have couches too but they look gross to sit on. My friend got the«James Brown» because the cashier recommended it but didn’t like it. So my friend went back up and told him and he replaced it with«Iced Mocca» for free. My friend rated it 5⁄5. They also have a convenient store attached to the coffee shop. So you can grab snacks, drinks, or ice cream while you study.

I’ve been a regular customer here for over 2 years, however after today I will not ever be coming back… I bought one of my favorite 12 packs today, a mixer of Fort Collins brewery, I was carrying it outside and. Barely made it to the sidewalk when the bottom fell out of the box and beers broke all over the sidewalk, I cleaned up everything and walked into jj’s to exchange my broken 12 pack where beer had spewed out from every bottle… they would not exchange the 12 pack and basically told me tuff«sh*t,» they only exchanged the two bottles that broke, and assumed I’d be happy drinking flat beer that all the other bottles had let beer drain from the top through the caps, horrible customer service, I felt bad for the girl working as her manager on the phone said not to replace them, So I could not blame her. I will not be going back and spending the couple hundred of dollars I usually spent a month there anymore, it’s sad, but what a terrible business model, you’re loss jj’s, I’m completely at loss for words.

An old favorite. My friends and I can’t believe this is getting turned into condos. Go while you can! New Nashville is really blowin it.

I came here during a quick business trip to Nashville, needing a place to hang out and kill an hour. The atmosphere was pretty cool and counterculture, which I found to be a little surprising since I wasn’t specifically looking for it, but the liberals and misfits still exist in the red states, and need a place to be comfortable. I had a medium latte, which I thought was excellent, and a blueberry scone, which I thought was just okay. I made use of the free wifi in order to futz around on Facebook and Buzzfeed. Afterwards I browsed the market section and felt some pangs of beer regret since my hotel room didn’t have a fridge to store anything local and craft brewed. The shelves weren’t as fully stocked as the beer selection, but they had some pretty interesting snacks.

Good coffee with eclectic, chill vibes. Lots of people with Mac books clearly working on homework or projects. Comfy couches. Lots of seating. Great coffee, too. I had the James Brown – chai and iced espresso with chocolate and milk. It’s delicious. If you’re a college student or a fan of the show Portlandia, this coffee shop is for you.

Ah, man; J & J’s. This brings back memories. J & J’s was part of my study session rotation(along with Noshville, Fido and the Med Center cafeteria). It makes me happy to know that things remain the same and those wood tables and odd, over-sized chairs are still helping to fuel vigorous cram sessions and lots of Vandy learnin’. Coming back as a non-student(praise the Lord), the vibe is just as enjoyable… even if I did feel substantially older than the folks studying and working behind the counters. In my previous life, it was all about the coffee and study space. Now, I can appreciate the grocery side of the business. Any place within Nashville at which I can buy single bottle beer is going to make me happy. When you couple that option with chocolate bars, baked goods and pre-made chicken salad sandwiches(that don’t go overboard on the mayo), you have for one happy guy. I think it’s the space. What’s not to like about a well-sized dining room with brick walls and wooden table space? What’s not to like about a wide variety of drink options(both of the coffee drip and refrigerated bottle varieties)? What’s not to like about large chocolate chip cookies that demand closed eyes and no talking? What’s not to like about friendly baristas and clerks who don’t feel the need to talk about how the brewed bean was rescued from an orphanage in Uzbekistan before being read Curious George stories and massaged on the third day of every other month before it wound up in your cup? What’s not to like about a sincere smile, courteous service and a solid product? What’s not to like about free, strong wifi? What I *don’t* like is the parking situation. But this stretch of Broadway has always been somewhat of a struggle. It is what it is. J & J’s, here’s to many years of getting stressed out students through finals. Here’s to many coffees made at all hours of the day. Here’s to staying cool when it could have been so easy to become hip. Here’s to you!

This place reminded me of a bodega/café that you would find in NY. It was small and quaint with just the basics for groceries. We were there strictly to pick up snacks to take back to our hotel. This place will definitely get the job done for your coffee needs too!

JJ’s is home, JJ’s is family. Cue the«Cheers» theme song… I first came across JJ’s in 2007 as a first-year law student needing a good study spot. Sam and his staff provided that and more. With their excellent coffee, cozy atmosphere, and friendly dispositions, I’m convinced that I wouldn’t have made it through school without them. Now that I work down the block, I still frequent JJ’s a few times a week and look forward to my catch-up sessions with Sam and the crew. Nashville’s sudden popularity has brought with it a ton of generic(if nice) new restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. JJ’s is not one of those, and yet it’s one of the first places I recommend for new residents. Come for the awesome coffee and beer selection, stay for the people, the atmosphere, and the feeling of being at home.

BEST place to study in town, hands down!!! I practically live at this coffee shop– it got me through my comprehensive exams and now it is getting me through my dissertation(except when I procrastinate and decide to post reviews on Unilocal instead, but alas…)! Great coffee drinks for those who aren’t super«into» coffee(I will be the first to admit that it is not the most amazing *coffee* – those who are really into espresso will not find it on par with a place like Barista Parlor– but its drinks are tasty and diverse, and for those of us who are coffee wusses and like our drinks sweet, this place is the best in town! The ambiance here is also amazing! It is super quiet and chill in the morning, and then picks up a bit in the afternoon, but there are plenty of outlets, comfortable seats, and great décor. Also, they also serve beer on draft here, so it’s a nice place to have a late afternoon meeting, and/or to reward oneself after a long productive day of writing! Finally, the staff here is AMAZING. I get annoyed by cold or snobby baristas, but here, they are so so so so friendly and warm and helpful! The owner, Sam(he also owns Bobbies Dairy Dip) is wonderful and an all-around great dude, as are the mainstay baristas here – Trevor, Emily, Audra, Timour, Justin!!!

I have visited J&J’s several times during visits to Nashville for an annual academic conference at the Vanderbilt Law School. All I can say is that this place is AWESOME!!! It has great coffee and tea as well as a small(but excellent) choice of craft beers on tap. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious so it’s easy to get work done or to just hang out and chat. Beer + Coffee + A Great Atmosphere? What more could you ever need???

This place was great! When I first read about it, I was highly doubtful about there being a café attached to a local market. I figured there would be a small section in the back that would feel like an attachment. Well, I was wrong. .. JJ’s could easily be described as a Café with a Market attached to it. The café area was spacious, had plenty of tables, power outlets, and good local vibe. I have a few trips coming up in the future an JJ’s will def me one of my stomping grounds.

Stumbled upon this place one late night while looking for a convenience store. I was so surprised to find the gem of a coffee shop inside! I’ve been visiting at least once a week ever since. Their menu is a nice mix of traditional coffee drinks(lattes, cappuccinos), to their own creations(Studying Nietzsche, anyone?), and everything I tried so far was excellent.

J&J’s is a café where you can sit for hours and hours. Whether you’re reading a book, writing a paper, doing research, or just grabbing a cup of coffee with friends, the space is inviting for all situations. When I first got here, I was skeptical. I was only visiting for the weekend and wanted to grab a cup of coffee after dinner, so I popped in. On the outside, the market doesn’t look like much. It’s a little bit run down, a little dirty. But once you walk inside, you realize that, that’s just part of their aesthetic appeal. Sure, they’re a marketplace similar to 7/11, but they aren’t as mainstream. For example: their beer cooler had three panels of craft brews, and only one of major domestics. The most popular brand of cigarettes they sold were American Spirits. For pricing, I got a great cup of coffee for only $ 2(and some change). You walk out of the market and into this café-type seating area with couches and tables. There is framed photography lining the walls, some up for sale. A stage is in the back, presumably for small gatherings and open-mics. A little detail that my girlfriend noticed that I really appreciated is that they encourage recycling the cardboard sleeves from the cups. All in all, I found this place to be amazing. However, it definitely isn’t for everyone. Like I said, it looks a little dirty from the outside which may turn people off. Plus the lack of mainstream products may be a downfall as well.

There’s something so wonderful about a place that provides me with the caffeine and atmosphere I need to accomplish an enormous amount of work, while also letting me to treat myself to a beer after completing said amount of work. Thanks, J&J’s, you’re my favorite place to study in. I have spent hours here on end and was nothing but comfortable. If you’re not studying, this is still a great place to bring friends, play board games, or relax.

If you find yourself in midtown and you need a getaway that’s not Starbucks, this is the place. They even sell beer, you can buy at the shop and sit and chill. They close at 23h and even have a «last call»(LOL) for coffee at around 22h30 I really love the cozy furniture and everything here. They have a book shelf with books you can read!

There’s no question: J&J’s is one of my favorite places to do work in Nashville. If you’re looking for a quiet, cozy venue to study or read, this is the place. Nashville has a lot of cafes, but there are few where the music isn’t too loud, the wi-fi too choppy, or the drinks too over-priced. J&J’s, for me, fills that need — on any afternoon, I can settle in with my laptop and some textbooks for a great study session. If you’re looking for something like Starbucks or ABP, this isn’t it; this is a much more stripped-down, homely place with a unique hipster-y charm to it, and that’s what I love best about it. Also — how many cafes also sell convenience store snacks and draft beers? A+ move.

Came here because I wanted to grab a quick snack for the evening — got a great pumpkin chip muffin from Anne’s Cakes and a cup of JJ’s hot chocolate. Would have gotten a nice cup of coffee had it not been so late in the evening. Hot chocolate was a bit watered down which is a bit disappointing as the market sells a variety of chocolates around the world. The pumpkin chip muffin has an overpowering taste of nutmeg. It sort of lingers in the mouth long after one has eaten it. If you love pumpkin spices, you might really enjoy eating this as it will last for hours after. Inside is a small market section with various snacks, magazines and sundries. The café area is much more spacious and frequented by the patrons. There is plenty of furnishing and large tables for group studies. Location is good as it’s close to the Vanderbilt University. As a tourist staying at a nearby hotel, it’s a great place for getting a decent cup of coffee.
