Great art. Lots of local artists have art for sale here. Lots of pieces were reasonably priced too($ 250 range). They also had a decent clearance art section. The owner seemed friendly and had a fluffy, friendly dog. When I walked in, the lady at the front desk was chatting with a local artist. She was telling us how she comes in fairly often, which is pretty neat. You might be able to meet a local artist and talk with them one-on-one here.

This was one of those places I came to when we were moving down here asking for a job. I guess it’s a good thing a family runs it, so they didn’t need to hire anybody. For that reason, they have local artists galor on display. When I lasted visited, a lot of the place was decked out in landscapes. They were some beautiful pieces, but of course I can’t afford anything like that right now. If you’re looking for a nice local place with some nice local artists though, it’s right there in the name.

Local Color is a large gallery full of paintings, drawing, and photos by local artists. Most of the art for sale there right now is pretty traditional — realisitic or impressionist still lifes, landscapes, and portraits. There were a few more innovative artists on display too, including a multimedia piece of a trumpet made partially from neon, and a series of pictures in mostly primary colors, splattered with drops of paint. The guy behind the counter was friendly, and didn’t seem to having me wander in and browse the gallery.

Local Color is a very cool spot right next store to J & J’s Market that specializes in local artists’ work. While most of their pieces are pretty expensive, they have some very neat work by a lot of local painters, photographers and sculptors. I was especially impressed by the sheer amount of pieces on display in Local Color. While from the outside Local Color looks like a pretty small gallery, inside there are several coves, cubbies and nooks packed with art. Each time I thought I’d viewed the last room Local Color had to offer, I came across another area with at least a dozen pieces. Local Color has a vast assortment of pieces from artists like Vikki Bible and Hank Hewgley. They also have a pretty good selection of photographs and prints as well as a handful of sculptures. There’s one piece(a «sound sculpture») that has a couple of mallets, and you can strike a massive, coiled piece of metal to get different tones out of it. The owner of Local Color is very nice and doesn’t seem to mind people stopping in just to browse. While most of the pieces are pretty pricey(way out of my price range), they’re mostly medium to large portraits and landscapes by pretty recognized Tennesseans that serious collectors would probably be interested in. There’s also a little Cocker Spaniel(I believe named Lola) that likes to hang around there and visit with customers, and I’m always a fan of in-store pets.
