YIKES– Just went here last night, got food poisoning I won’t be coming back… unsanitary! Miso soup tasted like dirty dish water, not sure if it was that or the raw scallop, either way never again. In the future I will spend the extra money and go to Sushi Tomi.

Good service, polite staff. so so miso, horrendous sushi, flat ramen. Not coming back — ever. Go to sushiko two blocks down instead. Way better food, and better atmosphere.

This is my go-to-sushi-spot after my bf and I hit the gym. It’s super close to 24 Hour Super Sport and is one of our healthy alternatives for dinner. I have never tried out their All You Can Eat menu, but I hope to one day for lunch. I usually get the Philadelphia Roll and Sake(salmon nigiri) which are my favorite. They make it well here and the fish is fresh so I have no complaints. My boyfriend always gets the bento box with Chicken Teriyaki and California rolls. Mmm. I also tried their ramen, which is also okay too. I like to support mom and pop restaurants, and this is the main reason why I come here too. I’ll continue to stop by Sushi85 and show my support. We love you Sushi85!

Great place for all you can eat sushi rolls! If you’re a regular their sushi crew will start making your favorite rolls the moment you walk in the door. That’s how well they value their patrons. The ocean rolls are superb, and so are their dynamite rolls. The ramen is really good, but beware of the large serving so you’ll usually end up taking it home! If you’re in the mood for rice, try their bento box with tonkatsu and tempura rolls.

If you want All you can eat Sushi, come here. It’s 24 bucks to start off with 3 Giant Rolls, so beware you may be full by then.

Ohh yess Sushi85. The 85 roll is giant – so much crab meat on top, with salmon on the inside and deep fried. Well, and the jalapeño poppers were really good too… never had sushi in that fashion before. Thanks Alex!!!

Introduced to this place by the co-workers. Decent place for AYCE sushi. You’ll definitely get your money’s worth for the $ 17AYCE sushi lunch. The best roll I had there is the Sex on the Mountain roll(scallops!). Friendly service, good prices, and decent quality sushi. I’ll be back once the the memory of, «OMG I ate too much damn sushi!» leaves my mind.

Gureen Dragan suki deshita. Midori-iro no roru wa abokado to ebi no tenpura tsukimashita. Amari kara jaa arimasendeshita. Oishiideshita kara, tako no sushi to hamachi no sushi mo tabemashita. Resutaran wa futatsu terebi deshita kara, yakyuu o mimashita. Getsuyoobi kara suiyoobi made, sake wa takanai desu. Resutaran wa ii deshita. Sumimasen…for my bad Japanese… but I need to practice somewhere… == I liked their Green Dragon roll. It’s green because of the avocado painted on top of the shrimp tempura sushi. Delicately done, I found that by moderating the amount of wasabi, it wasn’t too hot. I liked this roll so much that I had to pig out further by having even more sushi – the hamachi and the tako was very tasty. I remember this restaurant when it was a Hawaiian BBQ place. It’s high ceiling and purple-bounded color makes an attempt at being cutting edge. Nice try. But I do like the bar area and the two large screen TVs. Baseball was on, so naturally I killed time sipping Miso soup and watching the game while waiting for my order. Service was fast and professional. They do have special pricing for Sake between Monday and Wednesday as promotion. If I didn’t live so far, I’d drop by at this nice little restaurant.

My fiancé was craving some noodle soup and I wanted to swing by Target so we settled for Sushi 85. On a weeknight around 7pm this place was pretty empty with only a couple of tables occupied. They play random lounge-y music and have a sports channel on above the sushi bar(don’t know what channel it was… can you tell I’m a huge sports person? :P) I got the miso ramen and selected the California roll as my side that’s included with the ramen(there are a number of sides to choose from like tempura, chicken teriyaki, other rolls etc.). We also ordered the Cherry Blossom roll in addition to our ramen. The Cherry Blossom roll was great and beautifully presented with tuna around the roll with salmon & avocado inside. Wasabi here is on the weak side. My ramen also came with a small serving of kimchi that unfortunately looked like it has been sitting out all day. It looked dry and unappetizing. My fiancé tried his and told me not to bother trying it. It was left untouched. The ramen’s broth was tasty and it came with a few slices of fatty but delicious pork, fish cake(I never understand why all fish cake slices have the hot pink border around it but whatever), half a boiled egg, corn, scallions and bean sprouts. So fulling. The California rolls were fine — nothing to note. My fiancé ordered chicken katsu with his ramen and was given a generous portion of it. For $ 11.25 per ramen dinner was definitely worth it even if the poorly kept kimchi. I would have given this place 4 stars but the kimchi was just too sad(it’s kimchi — just keep it in a sealed container in the fridge at a minimum…).

Finally went there for all-you-can-eat sushi, after thinking about it for so long!! – The reviews don’t seem to be good, but it’s a convenient location for me, so let’s try! The sushi is not bad, fish is pretty fresh overall, but compared to Satsuma, they put much more rice that fills that stomach pretty fast. But I like that it has handrolls and a pretty big collection of sushi rolls and Nigiri. While unagi hand roll is always my favorite, the roll I like most is Sex on the Mountain, even though I don’t really understand what’s scallop, shrimp and eel have to do with sex on the mountain, but it is really tasty: P The cherry blossom roll on the other hand is quite disappointing – there’s a tiny little bit of salmon inside, and a tiny little piece of tuna outside, with a LOT of rice…:( The service is not bad. We have ordered a good amount of food, they are still happily serving at least :)

2.5 stars. This place serves both sushi and ramen, but neither is done very well. The fish tastes fishy(surprisingly, this isn’t a good thing), and the ramen is just average(though the portion sizes are huge). If you’re craving AYCE sushi and are in the area, I’d recommend the other Sushi 85 on Grant Rd. –L.

The sushi is fine; for the most part I would agree with what everyone else has been saying. It’s not amazing, but it’s not bad either. The interesting thing to talk about is the all-you-can-eat. It’s a good deal if you know what you’re doing. The thing is that they bring out three rolls at a time per person. What they don’t tell you is that if you can’t finish your plate, you get charged an extra $ 10, which turns the all-you-can-eat meal from a pretty good deal to a terrible deal. They didn’t tell us this until my friends and I realized that we couldn’t finish our plate. The policy makes sense; just make sure you don’t get scammed into paying more than you could’ve prevented!

Our friends, after having read Unilocal, warned us not to get anything but the AYCE sushi. Even the waitress recommended going with the sushi saying most patrons come away happy with that option. If you want Ramen, however, she did say the Miso Ramen is the best choice. We started out with all the fried stuff on the menu and our favorites include the Dragon roll, Crispy Spider Roll, and Philadelphia. My favorites were the Traffic Light and Popcorn shrimp rolls. The spiciest item on the menu is the Fire Roll. I couldn’t handle it but husband loved it. In the vegetarian category, I loved almost all the offerings, especially the Wakame roll. The cucumber roll with plum sauce, however, was waaay too salty.

UGH! This place makes me so mad! I love their GREENDRAGON roll but this is the second time they gave me the DRAGON roll which has eel in it and I HATEEEL! If you’re confused about the names why don’t you guys change it so you don’t freakin mess up on it all the time! Green Dragon Roll — Avocado, crab, tempura shrimp Dragon Roll– Avocado, tempura shrimp, eel I should check before I take it togo but I would like to think that they know what their rolls are! Yes I’m mad because I have no dinner! Don’t mess with me when I’m hungry! Gah! Why did I tip?!

We came for lunch yesterday excited to get our sushi on. I was immediately confused by the menu. If it’s all you can eat, why do all the items have prices? Anyway, I digress. 16.95 is pretty cheap for all you eat sushi so we were very excited, and a little bit nervous. The sushi was pretty good, definitely not bad, but not the best either. When they say spicy, they mean SPICY! I regretted my choice of the fire roll after 1 bite. We had a few problems with the service; the waitress disappeared halfway through lunch and never came back, we asked for more ginger which never arrived… All in all, for the price I thought it was ok but I won’t be rushing back.

Had the AYCE sushi with one of my best friends. It was good. Service was fast, sushi rice was a bit hard but well flavored. The cuts of fish were a little slim, but this is AYCE folks. You can’t survive by serving inch thick slices for $ 17 a head. The selection of sushi was tremendous, and for $ 17 its a great deal. My friend and I ate at least $ 60(list price) of sushi and walked away full and happy. *Soap Box* What really irritates me is the reviewers that give this place one star because they didn’t like the ramen. Big deal. Did they spill it on you, talk bad about yo mama, spit in yo face and hand you the bill? Nah! So the ramen wasd less than spectacular, big whoop. If I had a dollar for everytime I spent $ 10 – 12 on food, I’d have enough to buy at least 10 more bad food meals. I don;t give’em 1 star unless they really screw up. Generally if its bad, its 2 stars.

This place looks better than it is. A lot better actually. For example, you walk in and there are 4 waitresses, a hostess, 3 chefs, a busser or two, people in the back… its phenomenally staffed. My diet coke starts to run out? Refilled instantly. Possibly twice over. The interior is another example — this place is beautifully done. Beautifully done across the board actually. From fringe lined receipt pocket folder things, to mirrored black glass, to great use of color… The vibe is really cool, and you really want to like it. And then you eat the sushi, and it just doesn’t hold up. Its not bad, but it isn’t great. The bar is kind of set high because of how great the place looks and feels, and then they disappoint. Perhaps as they get their feet under them(its still new) the sushi will get better… but hey-they do have all you can eat. In fact, they are«Home of the all you can eat.» I find that funny. I’m not quite sure why. But I’m cracking up even as I’m writing this. aaaaand we’re done. Go give it a try — but don’t give up your fave sushi spot.

** Review for Ramen Only ** I’ve been to Sushi 85 for their All-You-Can-Eat sushi and on the right day and in the right mood, it’s a decent experience. Today, I decided to check out their ramen. The full name of the establishment, in contrast to the one on Grant Avenue, is Sushi 85 and Ramen. Given the long lines and ramen craze in the Bay Area, it’s easy to see why they decided to expand their 2nd branch beyond sushi. Nice idea. Poor execution. Ramen is served Monday thru Friday and at lunch. Price is $ 9.25 which includes ramen in one of three broths 1) shoyu 2) miso 3) tonkotsu. Each order also includes a choice of a side dish, which includes such choices as ribeye steak, beef short ribs, and chicken karaage. Sounds like a decent deal, right? My order came out about 5 minutes later on a generous sized tray. A side dish of kim chee, a small plate of ribeye steak, and a large bowl of ramen. I chose Tonkotsu ramen and the bowl included two slices of pork, a few strands of seaweed, corn, a slice of Japanese fish cake, and half a soft boiled egg. Overall, the presentation was solid and everything looked quite nice. 1) Kim chee — I love kim chee and though it was only a side dish, it was the least flavorful and watered down kim chee that I’ve had. I buy store bought kim chee all the time and this may just be a poorly done home made version. They should stick with the store stuff(Mr. Kim’s kimchee from Hankook is great!). 2) Ribeye steak — I debated between this and the beef short ribs, but got the ribeye as it’s fairly hard to cook wrong. Their version was a bit cold in temperature and sliced thinly. The meat wasn’t too fatty or oily. The one problem? Very little flavor. It seems like they just sliced the ribeye and fried it. No salt. No pepper. Nothing. I had to douse it with some soy sauce to make it tasty. 3) Ramen — The broth flavor was the most disappointing and lacked any strong depth or flavor at all. As someone who has bought a ton of store bought ramen packages, I am convinced that the ramen broth and noodles here are similar to the version sold at Ranch 99(available in miso, shoyu, and tonkotsu). Their broth isn’t boiled overnight or made from bone stock like places like Santouka, Orenchi, or Kahoo. It just tastes very artificial. While I appreciated the added toppings(corn, semi-soft boiled egg, two pork slices), I really wish everything had been heated longer. It seems they refrigerate all the items, make the ramen broth/noodle packet, and just add it together. Unlike kimchee, store bought ramen is rarely as good as the kind that’s made in top ramen shops. While I believe Sushi 85 wanted to capture a hot trend in ramen, they really need to execute better and put more into something if they hope it to do well. I left Sushi 85 very disappointed after my ramen meal and I’m pretty sure if I do come back, I’ll just have the sushi rolls. I was on the fence about trying the ramen since I’m such a fanatic of Orenchi and Santouka, but the location was convenient and I really felt a DIY moment(Do It for Unilocal). Now that’s I’ve tried it, I can share my experiences. Here’s hoping Sushi 85 and Ramen can up their game a bit. We deserve good quality ramen in this area. Sushi 85 accepts credit cards, but not American Express.

Better than the Grant Road location in Mtn View. Most sit down restos are closed btwn 2pm-5pm and sushi is almost always closed on Sundays due to temple. Never fear, the Mandarin speaking Chinese at 85 are working hard ALL day on Saturdays and Sundays. They even deliver and cater. We placed a to-go order on our way back up from San Jose and gave them a 20 minute lead time, the rolls and ramen took a TOTAL of 45 minutes. –SKIP the shoyu ramen, the broth is terrible. –Yummy seaweed salad, as always not too oily. –Gyoza, crispy goodness. –Negihama is sorry here. –I’ve had better sashimi salad, I don’t like iceburg. C’mon people gimmie some fiber. Check out: –Kamikaze –Ocean –Spiderman –Wayne –Salmon Deluxe –Hamachi Deluxe –UFO –Lady in Red 3 stars is ranked in comparison to other grossly mayo’d sushi places I have been to. And not overly riced. Some of the aforementioned gives me gas, not a toot in sight.

After a long week of work, I had an intense craving for sushi. I came here for their Friday night dinner sushi buffet. I’ve been to the Sushi 85 by the Ranch 99 in MV a few times but I’ve never had the buffet. But this Sushi 85 is way close to where I live so I had to give it a try! Friday nights are pretty busy — only one or two tables were open for the whole time my friends and I were there. They played a strange mix of house/pop/alternative music but they had the sharks game on! We ordered 3 rolls at a time(recommended by the waitress) and the rounds after the first plate came out pretty fast. There’s not much of a wait if you order more frequently. I gotta agree with the reviewer below, the Wayne Roll was kick ass. We pretty much tried half the menu(i think we ordered like 10 – 12 rolls total?) and the only thing I didnt like very much were the deep fried rolls with cream cheese(who does that!?). Otherwise, the fish was fresh, and the rolls were a good size and there was terrific variety. Although the menu had both a lunch/dinner sides, you can actually order from both sides. If you really want to make it worthwhile, come here for lunch on the weekdays, $ 17 for the buffet! The $ 25 price tag wasnt too bad considering all the food we got. I’ll probably be back again for another round soon.
