I’m new to MH and was talking to a friend I made at the gym. He recommended El Grullo and I thought I’d give it a shot. When we got there the place was empty, aside from the people we saw leaving with to-go orders. One thing you need to understand is that I grew up eating Mexican food. Not so much burritos but plenty of beans, rice and cooked meats. The Food: Although the steak was decent the rice was not even close to the right texture. It had some flavor but it was definitely under cooked. Bits of it were hard and it just made the burrito not that enjoyable. There was little to no sauce on the burrito, although they do give you sauce to go. I tend to like my sauces how I like my women, SPICY. lol. But seriously, the sauce was not that spicy and still lacked some flavor. The one positive about the burrito was its size. It was at least a pound to a pound and a half. The Staff: This is what makes giving a low review hard. The ladies working here were really sweet. You could just tell they have a good heart. So they get a plus 1 for customer service The Price: I know the drought has cause prices of certain good to go up and it has probably cut into this restaurants profits. The super burrito that I got cost me about $ 8. Adding a Vegetarian burrito cost another $ 7. This is way more than we were looking to pay for a basic burrito The Restaurant: The place itself is large with plenty of seating. We happened to stop by around 6 pm one day but the doors were open and there was no AC going which made it feel muggy in there. Chances are I will not come back to this place unless my current burrito shop does me dirty or closes.

Weather you’re just looking for a burrito or some tacos to go, or you want to sit down and grab a plate, this place has something for everyone. The tacos are good. The burritos are good. If I’m sitting down I like to get the tamales or the enchiladas.

Homey little family run Mexican restaurant. Skip the Mexican restaurants downtown and come here instead for something more authentic and less pricey. The chile relleno is pretty good, the tamales are good(not as good as a homemade ones that my husband’s coworker makes) and so are the enchiladas. Definitely try the tacos with lengua and cabeza. Pass on the seafood soup… it tasted like it had been frozen for sometime and defrosted b/c the carrots were spongy and the odor on the fish was terrible. Their torta is better than El Jalicense across the street and La Costa, but not as good as the one from Panaderia Ortiz further down the street, or the tortas you get from Mi Pueblo. Great place for takeout when you’re craving something a bit heavy.
