I’m being hella honest. for those who have put bad reviews about this restaurant yal gotta be haters. the owner is so sweet and the food is so good it makes you wanna move in with her. I’m from the bay area but I live here and this is the best Chinese food I’ve had here in modesto since I’ve lived here(6years now) and I’m mad that I just found out about this wonderful place. Great food please see for yourself. we’ve ordered the beef n broccoli, orange chicken, general chicken, pot stickers, pork chops, bbq pork chow mein, jumbo shrimp fried rice and every single time it was EXCELLENT! !!!

I wish this Chinese restaurant was in San Francisco. I would eat here everyday. The food is always fresh and and never greasy and no MSG, period. The service makes me feel like home. Linda is like a mom to me. If you live within 150 miles from Modesto, come!

Honestly I don’t know what’s more surprising, that this place has good reviews, or at how bad my food was. My coworker and I decided to try a new Chinese place(even though we LOVE Imperial Garden and always order from there) and we found this restaurant. We ordered the egg rolls, «cream cheese» rangoons, honey walnut chicken, and vegetable fried rice. I was told the order would take 20 – 25 minutes and my coworker got there between the 20 – 25 minutes and when he got back(we literally work down the street) the food was cold. All of it. I was surprised by the«cream cheese» rangoons that were very stale and cold. Honestly these were not fresh at all and seemed like they were probably made 5 hours ago, no joke. The embarrassing part is that they hardly even had cream cheese in there! I’ve never eaten food this bad! Our rice and chicken were cold too. The chicken were tiny little pieces of chicken and not fresh at all. The rice had a weird after taste. Very very disappointing. When I called the restaurant the lady on the phone said that they make the food fresh to order and was trying to say that my coworker arrived late(even though she told us 20 – 25 minutes and that’s the time that he was there). For someone to not even apologize about their cold, old, stale food and just say that it’s cold cause we got there late(even those we didn’t) is very disappointing. I didn’t even ask for a refund or anything and obviously can’t expect much from someone with this kind of service. Very disappointing. We had to toss all of our food in the trash.

I used to come to Human Gardens years ago to eat but couldnt remember why i didnt stop goin to it til tday when me and my son stop to eat at the place they had no lunch specials, the. waitress took forever to take our order and the food wasnt very good either. The fried rice was burnt, and so was the sweet and sour pork, my son soda was very watered down and when he askd for another drink the woman looked at him like wtf kid. Which was rude. The pricing is also very high for the portions we wont be coming back. So top this off we were at this place bout noon it is now quarter to 8 at nitr my son and i both have upset stomachs and diarrea all from eating at this place so be forwarned! If you decide to eat here!

cozy interior. genuine friendly service, which is unusual. good selection. sweet sour shrimp was the brightest red i’ve ever seen. shrimp was large and fresh. pineapple was juicy. mushu pork was tender and had a good mix of flavors and textures with shiitake mushrooms and celery. 4.5 stars.

Food is always yummy. Small place though and very quite dining area, make me feel awkward. If u have toddler who probably gets little out of control, u can see the face of owner lady that she probably does not like it at all. Not that she was ever been rude but at the same time she does not even behave to make it comfortable for u to eat there with kids. I would not recommend this place for dine in if u have toddler or small kids, carry out is a good idea.

The thing that makes this place is the service, our waitress was the sweetest and extremely friendly. I believe this is one of the better Chinese food restaurants in town. When we were going to order we asked if she wanted us to wait for her to get her writing pad and the waitress laughed and pointed to her head and said, «Good memory» lol We ordered the orange chicken, combo rice and beef and broccoli. It was tasty and didn’t take too long. Such a cute little place in a convenient location. Worth the try!

My family’s favorite Chinese restaurant for the past 20 years. Linda, the owner, is the sweetest lady in the world. The food is amazing, and worth the wait. This is not your greasy spoon Chinese joint. She runs a great restaurant, with fresh veggies, and quality meat(no stringy, «is that really chicken?» meat here). The ambiance is quiet, with piano music in the background. No loud TV here. This is the Chinese restaurant to go to when you want a sit down dinner. Go with the General Tso’s Chicken, Broccoli Beef, or Moo Shoo Pork. Spring rolls are a great starter.

Best chinese food in the Valley! I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area surrounded by great chinese food. After relocating to the Valley in ’96, I found myself disappointed by the resturants in the area, especially cjinese food! A friend took us out to eat at Hunan Garden, and I was so pleased with the food, we have gone back again and again for the last 10 years. It is a drive for us to get there, but the chicken salad, sweet and sour pork, and prawns with honey walnuts make it all worth the trip. I hope these people stay open another 10 years!

I would give no stars if possible. We stopped by for dinner at 8:05pm and was told by the old lady that take out would be okay. Too late to dine in. Ummmmm, you close at 9(or so the sign says). I told her forget it. I will not ever go there again.

Limited seating area but perfect for intimate setting. The atmosphere was not as loud as normal Chinese restaurants. Instead it’s calming. We ordered Hot & Sour Soup, Sweat & Sour Pork, and Beef Chow Fun. Everything tasted as great and fulfilled my Chinese food appetite, the service was fast, and the prices were at par. This will be one of my 3 go to places for Chinese food in the area.

I am saddened to only give this place 3 stars, because the food is amazing(especially General’s chicken), but I had a very bad service experience this past time of going. Just for some background, I have gone to this place a handful of times(mostly for calling in and take out). I have also dined in once and had no problems. The waitress/greeter is an elderly woman who is friendly and very nice. This past time though, things were different. Perhaps because people are discovering what an amazing place this is, but the little restaurant was packed. I arrived around 7:10pm on a Saturday night. I had my hubby call in to make an order about 15 minutes prior, but he called me and said they put him on hold for 11 minutes and never even came back to him. He hung up to call back but the line was busy(because they just left the phone off the hook). Anyway, because I was already en-route to the place when I got this info, I decided I would just try to order to-go when I arrived. Well there was a woman in front of me who said she had called in at 6:30pm and they said her food would be ready at 7pm, yet here she was still waiting… I see the elderly woman and she puts her finger up to me to indicate to wait(doesn’t even greet me) then goes back to the kitchen and never returns. I mean, I understand, house is packed… probably only one chef, one server, and the elderly woman most likely went back to help… but still, I feel there is no excuse to not even acknowledge someone who comes in for half an hour!!! I mean I would’ve been happy if she just said hello, I’m sorry we are so busy… and give me a wait time… or at least take down what I wanted to go so then I could go run errands and come back… but no… The young server finally came and asked if I was picking up or needed to place an order… and I told her I needed to place an order and she said«Oh ok, let me get the lady…» Keep in mind, the woman who had ordered by phone at 6:30pm was still waiting to pick up as well… At 7:30pm another woman comes in wanting to place an order to go… she stands behind me and I explain how long I’ve been waiting and she said she tried calling in and got put on hold forever as well so she decided to just drive down… Anyway, long story short… I really think this place should hire another helping hand at least for weekends… I ended up giving up and leaving. At least have someone take orders to go and if it’s going to take an hour, just let the person ordering know that… Don’t just ignore customers and not let them know the situation. Would I return here again? I’d probably call first to see how busy they are.

Lovely place and people but the food was an utter disappointment, let me count the ways… 1. ORANGECHICKEN — Neither orangey nor good cuts of chicken. The sauce was more spicy and reddish than sweet and orangish. 2. COMBINATIONCHOWMEIN — Tasteless noodles with the«combination» meats piled on top. I like everything mixed in but apparently that’s not how they roll. 3. COMBINATIONFRIEDRICE — The same setup as the chow mein however the rice had a distinct burned taste to it like it had rested in the pan too long. 4. EGGROLLS — These were actually pretty good! Unfortunately I need to WOK not run away and not look back!

I love Hunan! Ever since I moved to Modesto this has been my favorite Chinese place to go! This place is quite small with maybe 10 tables or so with three people who work there: the cook, the busgirl, and the owner(waitress). Since there are only three people who work there, service can sometimes get a little slow, but the food and service make up for it. I highly recommend this place!

The family that owns the restaurant speaks Mandarin. Mandarin speakers are a rarity in Modesto, and they are a pleasure for me because after four years in China, it’s fun to come home and have someone to talk to. And to have someone who might understand the food you are looking for. Hunan Garden, like many restaurants, has tailored their dishes to the tastes of the locals. The yu hsiang pork, for instance, is made with barbecue pork, not thin slivers of pork as known in China. The twice-cooked pork is also some kind of lean pork, not Chinese fatty pork(imagine bacon, but cut top to bottom in thick chunks, not length-wise like American bacon). I know I just lost some of you to blissful imagination by mentioning bacon. But I digress. After some consultation, I asked what I should order. And what I got was Kung Pao Chicken, with accommodation made for extra spiciness. The result: a very enjoyable stir-fry of chicken, onion, bell pepper, peanuts, and critically: dried red chilies, which packed a punch. Would this get 5 stars in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles? No. But it does for Modesto. Lunch specials range from $ 5.95 to $ 7.25. Enjoy!

I was pleasantly surprised at how great the food tasted. I went with my mom who is a vegetarian, so we ordered mu shu vegetable instead of mu shu pork, but tasted just as good without the pork. The wraps weren’t as great as my favorite chinese restaurant, but the mu shu and plum sauce was so good you couldn’t really tell. Then we ordered the garlic eggplant which was so good, because we asked for it spicy and it was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful paired with some steamed rice. The only thing I would have changed would have been the portion size. I am use to the portions being just a bit larger since it is family style and it was only two of us. But the waitress was so nice and helpful, and the décor was welcoming and beautiful. I will definitely be making this place a regular of mine and will be trying everything on the menu.

Ok my fam and I ate here for the first time. the food is actually really good but what knocked off major points was the soda refills are a dollar and the cup is pretty small. Then the waitress… she was so off, idont know what it was but it was weird she was nice and all she wasnt rude she wasnt nervous I dont know whay it was! But there was something About her and I was just pissed the whole time about the soda thing then at my bill 41.60 for three people… ok no I probobly wont ever eat there again. It over all was just a weird place but the food was good
