My husband and I have visited here on each trip we make to the area, about once a year, for maybe 10 years. The quality of the arts represented is excellent! The range of prices is varied, and we almost always come away with something for ourselves or for gifts. The staff is friendly and helpful, no matter how small the purchase.

If I had less self-control, I would have bought something here. So creative, original and lovely inside. Like a museum with things for sale. Friendly staff who took time to explain pricing of an artist’s bracelets. I love when service staff stop to chat. Woodwork, photographs, watercolor, acrylic, hand made cards, sculpture, etc. A must see.

My favorite shop in Mendocino. Beautiful furniture, art pottery, paintings, jewelery. This isn’t a crafty home spun place — this is beautiful fine art that you can bring home and live with. Beautiful. The staff is always friendly and never snooty.

Amazing art here — some less expensive, some moderate, magnificent higher-end work(especially the handmade furniture), but worth your time just for the joy it will bring your soul. Too much to even describe. Do yourself a favor, stop here and just enjoy the beauty. Fabulous! Friendly staff. Superior art! Many price ranges. I ended up going back a few days later … and … came out with a beautiful print. Do stop at Highlight: it is a gallery of many delights.

When Nina and I were in Mendocino a little more than 3 years ago one of the most memorable galleries to me was the Highlight Gallery. The building used to house the Music Box Theatre and in the late 60s my first husband and I heard a couple of mesmerizing Irish performers there, singer/storytellers, so I have very happy, albeit dim, memories of the building. Its current incarnation is equally entrancing, although the artistic media are different. There is gorgeous handmade furniture, turned wood bowls, paintings and other wall art, ceramics of all sorts, delicate wire sculptures, jewelry, scarves that are wearable art. There were mirrors w/intricate mosaic frames and art glass. If I were to have a gallery it would be full of wonderful objects like this. I didn’t buy anything this time, but I admired extravagantly, climbing the stairs to the upper levels to see everything that was displayed. It saddened me to see signs all over exhorting customers not to place anything on the furniture and not to sit in chairs w/o asking first. It speaks to customer behavior that has been heedless and disrespectful of the treasures contained in this gallery.

I think Highlight Gallery is the best in Mendocino… it has two floors filled with an assortment of quality work from talented artists and craftsmen. You can find gorgeous wood furniture, fine textiles, beautiful kilnformed glass, pretty ceramic wares and lots of paintings and prints. There is also jewelery and sculpture to look at. So, do stop by when in the neighborhood, help support the gallery and its artists and take home(or give as a gift) a little hand-made gem.

This place hands down was my favorite shop in downtown Mendocino. They have a quality, affordable collection of local art work that includes everything from pottery to scarves to furniture, paintings and more. There were some gorgeous preserved leaves mounted in Shadowboxes that were lovely as well as some sand paintings by another local artist. It was nice to see works done in some non-typical media. This place is actually huge too-it goes far back and there is an upstairs that is quite large as well. If you want unique pieces or want to just browse and get ideas for future home decorating this is the place to go. I took down some artist names for future reference and my experience here in this gallery is one of my standouts from my day in the town of Mendocino

If you’re looking for upscale artisan artwork, this is the best store I’ve seen in Mendocino. We purchased a wooden box in Healdsburg and the same artist(shipped from the Heartland of US) has more items at this store, including very large jewelry boxes compared to the Dovetail store in Healdsburg. The boxes were priced the same as in Healdsburg but we could’ve gotten another 10% off non-sale merchandise if we knew in advance that we were visiting Mendo. Pick-up a copy of their«Mendocino Travelers Guide» from the visitor’s info at the Ford House and there are discount coupons in it for many stores and restaurants in town. Some of the jewelry stores may not offer discounts but rather free jewelry inspection and cleaning. There is a lot of wooden furniture, jewelry, paintings, wooden and quartz vases, pottery(recognized pieces from an artist we met at the Sausalito Art Festival). There’s an upstairs with lots more furniture including a lovely camphor chest. The owner is Joanie Ellis and she knew exactly which store I was talking about when I told her we had purchased a wooden box in Healdsburg. A must vist if you’re looking for quality art work.

A gorgeous, gorgeous store with an amazing collection of fantastic furniture pieces, sculptures, pottery, jewelry, etc. «Sumptuous» is the only word I can use to describe the way the unique wood tables and cabinetry feel to the touch and the way they shine with a soft, buttery sheen. Every piece in the store has a very natural, organic feel to it, but in a way that is clean and elegant, as opposed to «rustic.» If you want amazing art pieces and furniture to beautify your home or something unique and top quality to present as a special gift to a special loved one, this is a great place to check out.(I purchased a Louise Reding crystal glaze vase as a gift; it was priced at $ 130.) This is the type of store where even a person like myself who usually abhors latent materialistic urges suddenly wishes for piles and piles of disposable income. The store missed a five-star rating due to the unwelcoming nature of the staff. I’ll never forget the way the lady behind the counter impatiently instructed a customer to lock the front door for her to prevent more people from walking in — apparently she decided arbitrarily that she’d had enough of dealing with customers and was going to take an hour-long break after everyone who had made it in before the lockdown had finished their business.

This gallery in the village has amazing art and crafts from local artisans. Lots of variety too. Wood sculptures, furniture, ceramics, glass, jewelry, and more. Great place to pick up some gifts as they have lots of items across the price spectrum.
