Suzi Marquess Long’s studio is in this Watertower. She is adorably sweet and quiet a character. She’s travelled all over the world and lived in Hawaii, the Bay Area and moved numerous times, making for a colorful personality. She has now settled in Mendocino and loves it there and lives next door to her watertower studio. She adopted a stray cat, Cowboy and he roams the tower but in his prior life was quite the lothario, having caught the feline version of STDs. Suzi has a variety of watercolor prints and painting. We bought a few cards with prints of her watercolors to give as a gift. Such a delightful person. Pop in to say ‘hi” and visit her gallery.

Suzi Long runs not only an artist studio but the reason for this review is the extraordinary experience we had taking her watercolor painting class. As someone who can’t draw the guy on a «hangman game» Suzi took my wife and another student and within two hours explained how to create a watercolor image of her building(the largest water tower in Mendecino) and the results were unbelievable. Not only is Suzy an artist herself but her teaching skills exceeded our expectation. She was patient, charming, like-able and more important not judgmental when we made our inevitable blunders. And he was funny to boot! At the end of the course which ran late(Suzy was so caring she didn’t seem to mind her gallery was closed to help us three struggling artists) we had succeeded beyond our wildest expectations. In fact although there are many wonderful things to see and do in this area, I considered these two hours the highlight of our three day trip. We came back with a renewed sense of optimism and it was all due to Suzy’s fantastic skills. Don’t miss the opportunity to spend a couple of hours flattering yourself with Suzy’s help.
