Very decent burger. Appreciated having non-potato options for sides! Pleasant service and atmosphere.

We had high hopes for a good olé diner in the country, but ended up underwhelmed. The best part of the meal was by far the grits which you would expect from a southern diner located randomly off the highway. The breakfast burrito was recommended by other Unilocalers but we found it pretty blah maybe it was because we substituted the sausage for mushrooms? We got one pancake on the side which was good even without syrup. The sunshine burger was dry and in desperate need of some cheese with some fries that were also nothing to write home about. Overall it’s a roadside diner that we really wanted to like but wasn’t very memorable.

Told about a 10 min wait which was true, food was a little cold others were sat after us and got their food before us. Grits were very tasty. Just received my omelet that was messed up the first time around. I’m assuming she was the manager but a woman came over and said they were giving me 50% off my omelet.

This is an authentic diner, it has what you would expect as well as the unexpected! Fantastic specials for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Kids had breakfast taco with s’more filling and a philly burger. Mom and Dad had grilled shrimp and veggies with lemon basil mayo… mmm. All around great atmosphere and delicious food! We went back for lunch the next day!

This was my first spot after I got to Massanutten and I’d have to say I wasn’t impressed.

My wife and I visited the area we specifically wanted to go here because of the reviews on Unilocal, but when we actually got there the waitress was more preoccupied with a male customer(boyfriend/husband) and was ignoring our table we even had to ask another waitress for napkins and silverware. Then when we actually got the food it was nothing to write home about. I usually tip very well in the 20−30% but this lady needed a wake up call so I paid in cash and she literary got the actual change, and I’ve never done that!!! Very disappointed

We stopped here after hiking in Shenandoah. Glad we did. Fast service with a smile. Place is spotlessly clean. Food options are good and affordable priced. I had the Rueben and my wife a burger and a salad. We would stop here again no doubt.

We had the pleasure of dining at the Thunderbird Café this morning. The food was good and the staff was friendly. I had the blueberry cream cheese French toast which was one of their signature meals. It did not disappoint. Their bacon and sausage were very tasty. I love a place that puts a little pride into their menu. Little man had the chocolate chip pancake and the Mrs. Had the cinnamon French toast. The chocolate milk was a little less chocolatey than I would have preferred but the costs and location to Massanutten were spot on.

They have very good breakfasts here. I have eaten here many times and never disappointed. The omelettes are really good. The blueberry pancakes are simply yummy. They are really busy in the mornings. I recommend having at late breakfast to avoid the crowds. You also can use your receipt to get a discount at their sister restaurant, Hanks!

Food was solid, and the menu was impressive. I ordered an omelette with their house cured ham, and it was very good. My wife got the same, and she talked about it for a few days. Our kids ordered a pancake, with chocolate chips, of course, and the other the pancake taco. Kids! They too loved their meals, esp since we had been camping for the 4 prior days. Service was timely, but not really warm. Seemed most there were not in a great mood. Thankfully, the person that ended up serving up the most, was friendly. We would def be back. Likely a rough day there at the office. :)

My group really enjoyed their dinner here. Simple looking dinner, but the food packed more of a punch then I would have thought. We loved the menu, and thought everything was fresh, tasty, and better then expected! We also had a very kind and friendly waitress who was attentive, and was friendly enough to make lots of conversation with us tourists!

Our group stopped here on our way out of Massanutten. After a short wait on a Saturday morning, we were seated. It took a while for our server to come to our table. She was also the bartender and had a hard time getting out from behind the bar to take care of tables. Maybe not the best service method. I ordered an omelet with BBQ pork(from Hank’s), BBQ sauce, and cheddar cheese with grits as my side. I also asked if they had the Peanut Soup available. The omelet was pretty boring. The pork didn’t really have a lot of sauce and, because of that, was dry. The grits were awesome. Definitely the best part of the meal. I never heard back about the Peanut Soup. She didn’t bring any so I guess they weren’t serving it but an update would have been nice. The prices were reasonable and the décor was like your standard diner.

Recently stayed at the Massanutten Resort, and instead of eating on the resort I took to Unilocal to seek out Massanutten/Harrisonburgs finest. This was maybe the third establishment I had eaten at, and all the other highly rated restaurants turned out to be awesome. Thats why I regretfully say that everything about this café was top notch except the food. The food was just okay. I went for breakfast, and the only thing I truly enjoyed was the Fried Green Tomatoes. The Country Fried Steak to me was a bit over cooked, and I got maybe a spoon worth of dark over cooked potatoes. On a high note the eggs were perfect, but overall not so great of a meal. I wouldn’t be against going back to try the lunch menu, but breakfast won’t happen again for me.

Wow, I’ve eaten here four or five times and it’s always been excellent. Highly recommended for anyone staying at Massenutten resort. Tonight I had the shrimp and grits with turnip greens and Tasso. Now, I had to ask the waitress what Tasso was and it’s a kind of local ham. The grits were creamy with very little cheese(if any) but delicious none the less. The turnip greens ringed half the bowl. Six large grilled shrimp topped the grits, then the diced Tasso topped it all. I have to admit, I don’t know which restaurant does this better — Thunderbird or The Fish House in Pensacola, FL. The entrée was $ 10.99. My husband had an omelette(huge) with grits(also creamy). Our dinner companions had the meatloaf(excellent with mushroom gravy) and a BLT. The BLT was served on homemade bread. Please see pictures of the shrimp ‘n grits and the sandwich. A highly recommended, friendly place.

This place is well worth whatever amount of time you need to drive to get there. I came in from Waynesboro and needed something for breakfast. I stopped here and had the sticky pig with red potatoes and a cup of coffee. The sticky pig is two slices of homemade bread battered as French toast and stuffed with freshly pulled pork seasoned with sriracha sauce and real maple syrup. The red potatoes were lightly spiced and oven fried. Oh my God. DELICIOUS. MINBLOWING. GETINMYBELLY! Even the coffee tasted wonderful. It was freshly brewed and there was a basket of creamer on my table so I could use as much as I wanted without asking for more. The service was friendly and quick. The restaurant was clean and attractive. I could not find one thing wrong so I am giving this five stars!

Stopped in for a hearty breakfast. We had omelets that were pretty good along with potatoes and biscuits. We also shared a short stack. We ordered a side of grits. You should order a side of grits. The grits are fantastic. The food was good and inexpensive. The staff was friendly. I would definitely go back.

Went here with my friends after our snowboarding trip and the breakfast was amazing! It was worth the 45 minute wait after burning all those calories trying not to face plant. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and my fiancé got the chicken fried steak and although the meats were smaller than we were used to, it was GOOD! The macaroni and cheese is awesome and so cheesy. Melts in your mouth. My friend got the Cobb salad and it was a little overloaded with bleu cheese and bacon. Just ask them to cut back of that’s not your cup of tea. Lastly, service was top notch! The server we had was very prompt and was great at taking care of our large group. I will definitely come back next year to rekindle the post snowboarding memories.
