One the reviews below stated that this place was a diner with fine dining on the menu lol. And after I experienced this restaurant for myself, that review is spot on! It looks like they took all the furniture from the diner and mediocre fine dining menu and put it together. I found that menu wasn’t very family friendly and was little expensive. I’m not going to go into a big rant here, but when we were there we experienced horrible service for the first 20 – 30 minutes. I sought out the manager and spoke to her about the issues and they resolved it. The food we did order was pretty good though.

Can’t give any stars since they were not open(again). A great place(historically) to eat at, with a real part time presence. Not open on Mondays, and for now are not open mid-day 4 other days of the week. Wouldn’t mind if the Massanutten Resort had another spot to take guests to tout their upscale presence. Management told me they are getting ready to ramp up their game for the Summer crowd. Small consolation to guests who have a timeshare for one week per year.

Tried very hard not to be a big city snob, but this was a very poor breakfast even by family resort standards. The buffet food is placed out at the beginning of the morning and never changed, resulting in rubbery eggs, dry hash browns, and burned bacon. The coffee came from an urn but tasted suspiciously like instant. I will say that the staff was very nice and attentive, but how hard is it to serve decent breakfast food? A la carte might be better — we had some made to order fried eggs that were the only decent part of the meal. But overall this was a $ 14.95 buffet on par with the free breakfast you get at a rest stop Hampton Inn.

My husband and I eat here last year during our honeymoon and again last night to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, both times was excellent. Last night when we went, our server micha(not sure if spelling her name right) was just excellent, of all the many many many restaurants we have traveled and ate at, she was by far one of the best, making sure our drinks was constantly filled, our meals was to our liking and just a sweet young lady all together, from her excellence service to the quality of the food, to the time we were finished and left, just great service, we will probably come here every year on our anniversary.

I know that people have mixed feelings about this place, but my wife and I had an exceptional meal and dining experience here tonight. I agree with some of the comments about it feeling dated but over all it was clean and I enjoyed the dark ambiance of the place. I would recommend refinishing the booths and changing up the abundance of green in the place but over all it had its own charm. We did not get any adult beverages but were impressed by the beverage selection. I ordered the roast duck and added a Caesar salad. My wife got the sizzling plate. The Caesar salad was fresh and clean with a really tasty dressing. There were hints of horseradish in the dressing and as a fan of horseradish, I found it very appealing. The duck was moist and juicy and cooked wonderfully. The skin had a nice crispness to it and the sauce it was dressed with was a perfect compliment to the dish and the right amount of sauce was included. I hate getting something that is swimming in a sauce and this had the right proportion. The collard greens were cooked perfectly. They were still crunchy while being cooked completely. They were delicate in flavor. My wife had the sizzling plate and oh my was it delicious. All of the proteins were cooked perfectly and the glaze they were cooked in was delicious!!! I’m glad I didn’t let the bad reviews keep me away and will return again on our next visit. As a side note, there was band playing that was really talented. They also were not overbearingly loud. That was very appreciated.

Blech! We went for the breakfast buffet. Two stars because it’s cheap, but you get what you pay for… which is lukewarm, dried out food and very little selection. They can serve whatever they want being only one of two places open for breakfast in the entire resort, but honestly just go out in town. It’s awful.

The restaurant felt dated and the food felt dated as well. It was adequate and frankly the best place for food in all of the resort. I think with some inspiration(and soup that isn’t cold) and a little bit of renovation they could get this place back up the standard of an upscale dining experience. Its not upscale now but tries to be. If they don’t want to upgrade to a higher level — that is fine too. But then bring the dining experience down to a mid-tier(I think Ruby Tuesday, Applebees) type menu that is more kid friendly and less high end. Decide — upgrade to actually being upscale(and innovate a bit more to up the quality) or go to that bar and grill type of venue. Don’t be the in between you are right now that doesn’t impress anyone. Still — best place to eat at Massanutten(but not a high bar to reach). Whoever is in charge of dining for the resort needs to really rethink what they are doing.

We are visiting from DC and after snowing all day decided against driving in town today and decided to eat on the resort. After hearing a lot of negatives about Fareway we still decided to give it a try as we have learned from other eateries here that the people do not necessarily know good food or reasonable pricing. We were told this space was expensive, well coming from DC where one drink is $ 15 to getting a shot and a wine flight for $ 15 this place is a steal to us. First let me start by saying our waiter was awesome. My boyfriend asked for a beer flight and for her to surprise him. She asked a few questions and brought out four beers three of which he loved. I ordered a strawberry sangria which was nice, tasty and refreshing. We both ordered the sizzling skillet which was delicious. It cane with sirloin steak, chicken breast, largo shrimp, red skin potatoes, mushrooms, onions and broccoli. A sherry, worcheshire sauce was put over it and was delicious. The entrée was $ 19 each not bad when we are used to paying around $ 24 for a fajita skillet. For dessert we ordered the brownie sundae to share which was moist, and gooey. Our bill was about $ 70 which was good for all we ordered.

Don’t waste your money. This is a diner with«fine dining» prices. If the food was equivalent of a roadside diner – I think I would have been less disgusted but you know, it wasn’t. The food was horrible. The Specifics: Onion rings– Dry batter was inside of the crust Filet minion — Destroyed a perfect cut of meat – I am upset for the cow who sacrificed its life for that massive disappointment… oh, did I mention they had the gall to charge $ 39 bucks for this cut??? The Fingerling potatoes — over cooked and rubbery/some were completely dried out. The Steamed Broccoli — my god, they couldn’t screw this up, after all its just steam, so they were fine. no seasoning but hey it was the highlight of my meal. Total for two people for this crap(inc. a glass of wine and a flight(the alcohol was also a highlight)) — $ 77.00

Stay away, like everyone else reviews the food is overpriced and not even good quality food. Stay away and if you can go off the property do so please. We went for breakfast figuring that would be fine with the 2 Star reviews and that was an epic fail. The only good thing was our waitress, she was great.

My wife and I had dinner there last night. Our server, Sara, was great… not chatty and got her job done without any complaints from us… two former servers. Our steaks were cooked as we had ordered them and the red wine chased away the cold of the February might.

This place is WAY overpriced. For dinner they charge fine dining prices and the food quality is on par with an Applebee’s, or worse. This place is nothing more than a golf course restaurant that you go to for lunch and get a turkey club. I made the mistake of going for dinner with my family and paid $ 145 for 2 adults and 2 kids! Seriously? The only reason to go here is to get a beer after golfing.

I know this place has had a mix of good and bad reviews; we’ve eaten here many times over the years and while not every experience was four star, I have to say they usually come through pretty well. Today three of us came by Fareways for a Thanksgiving dinner and were not disappointed. In addition to their standard menu they offered some specials including turkey and stuffing, and roasted pheasant. We were all happy with our food, and as usual the staff was very friendly(not necessarily the case with all Massanutten resort employees.) All in all, a nice dining experience.

I wasn’t so sure about this place when we first walked in. The décor and the back room dining has never been my thing. That was quickly turned around once the menu was in front of us. I quickly found some black cherry cider that I fell in love with and decided to try the bison chopped steak. Little man got the grilled cheese, and the Mrs. Got the seafood curry bowl. Good was fantastic. The bison was cooked perfectly and did not taste as gamey as I thought it would. Once we were done dining we indulged in the apple tart. All home made and all delicious. They had a live band come in and really interacted with our little one. They let him dance and even played some songs for him that he knew on the radio. Thanks for the experience.

Looks like they changed the menu since my last visit. Took off many good selections and decided to go upscale. By the looks of it nobody else are the bar area liked it either. Sunday night just wanted appetizers and a drink. Nobody was eating at the bar.

Nice selection of interesting foods. However my Onion Soup was salty, and my Drunken Salmon was very salty and very oil/buttery. The Green Beans were over stewed and salt/greasy. Husband enjoyed his deep Fried Catfish and Corn Bread. This restaurant my cater more to Southern tastes.

I hope the chef/menu designer reads this and makes necessary adjustments. We ordered, to go, the following: «Brioche & Mountain View Farm Cheese — Locally made brioche, local cheese, strawberries, Virginia strawberry bourbon sauce.» What we were expecting: some type of burrata/farm cheese(a serving, a piece, a wedge…), a nice piece of brioche to spread the cheese on, and a small, garnish-size amount of strawberries/strawberry bourbon sauce to add as a complimentary flavor to the cheese. What we got: two fist-sized, mediocre brioche buns with MAYBE a half ounce of some kind of white, melted cheese stuck between the bun. It was odd though, because the buns weren’t toasted or grilled. They appeared to have been microwaved to melt the cheese. Further, THEMOSTHORRENDOUS part of this disgusting appetizer, was the strawberry bourbon sauce, of which there was about a FULLCUP of liquid poured in the container & that the buns were swimming in. This«sauce» tasted EXACTLY like a strawberry daiquiri, sans alcohol. In concept, this appetizer could have been decent, had they presented what was described. Or, it could have been avoided entirely had they correctly described what they were really serving. Fareways needs to stick to simple, country food rather than trying to pretend there is anything even remotely sophisticated about this menu or those who created it. Everything else was also mediocre. Won’t be back.
