Overpriced and the sales clerk who helped me was completely misogynistic and inappropriate. He kept staring at my chest and telling me I needed to learn to «get on my knees» to garden. It was completely inexcusable.

Any locally owned hardware store is going to have amazing service and knowledgeable staff. What I really love about SMH is the expansive selection of fasteners(nuts, bolts, etc.). If this place doesn’t have what you are looking for then you will either have to make it yourself or find it from a specialty fastener company. For the average person though, this place has it all.

This place is just as charming inside as out. The exterior façade is a great addition to the St Matthews«strip» at the intersection of Frankfort/Shelbyville/Chenoweth/Breckenridge. Once you’re inside, the store doesn’t disappoint. I visited recently and had some trouble finding what I needed. While I consider myself to be pretty tool– and hardware-savvy, I needed some help finding the basics in this new store. The employees were all friendly and someone was able to assist me immediately. Even if you don’t need anything in particular, the store itself is kind of fun to visit. Once inside, it has the feel of a rustic neighborhood hardware store, and you get the feeling that there are plenty of regulars who come by to grab things for home improvement projects or just to chew the cud with other people who have popped in to say hello. Checked button-down short-sleeved cotton shirts abound and add to the nostalgic vibe. This is a great asset to the St Matthews neighborhood and may just come in handy if you need something for your next home project!

This place is awesome — a total throwback to an era of mom and pop shops where customer service is the priority. Great selection of products and a knowledgable staff.
