RIP Socko’s. NOOO!!! You were too quick, too cheap, and bike deliverers were too cool. But, I’m in denial. You really aren’t closed! You must have moved to a new, even cooler, location somewhere in Beverly Hills or towards the coast. You’re taking a sabbatical or well-deserved vacation. I’ll miss your fluffy fresh bread, uniquely creative sandwiches, and a place for former Bruins to meet and reunite over. «.almost crashed my car upon hearing this news.» Sincerely, Loyal sandwich eater since you opened.

Tuesday afternoon. After my shift at work, I decided to drop by for a sandwich since it’s finals week and my lazy self is without any groceries or food for the week. HOWSAD I WASTOSEETHE«FORLEASE» SIGN. I knew something was wrong while I was walking on Broxton and DIDN’T see the Socko’s Truck. Originally, I thought, oh cool, it’s on the move now? ANDLITERALLY, SOCKO’S MOVED. ‘Twas the saddest of sad days. The worst part? I was so taken aback I didn’t even know where to go for lunch after. How emotionally stirring. Oh, and now what about the 9 stamps on my stamp card? SOCLOSETOTHATFREESUB. Forever Sad Day.

Update: They are now officially closed. I guess that explains the funny behavior. Wish all the guys the best in their new ventures. I love the food, I love the staff. It’s a quality, flavorful, and fresh sub every single time at an incredibly reasonable price. I give the subs 5 stars. But lately, something strange has been going on. They’ve been closing at odd hours or not opening at all. I came in at 6 the other night and they were in the process of closing up and said they were out of bread, even though there was bread on the rack behind them. I tried to go around noon today, but they never opened. I even went to check again around 6 and the lights were still out. But again, I emphasize, these are great subs. Don’t let my review discourage you from trying them – they’re well worth it. But call before you head over there. And if anyone who works there reads this, hope all gets straightened out soon and everything is alright. I can’t wait to change this to a 5-star review because you guys are truly awesome. Best of luck to you!

Socko’s is a solid, but not overwhelming sub place. I ate here several times during my stay in Westwood. The bread is soft and for the most part, holds up well ever with several ingredients. My favorite sandwich I tried was the gilmore, which has roast beef and BBQ sauce. The lettuce is crispy and shredded, and they have a nice array of peppers and veggies. One annoyance was the pickles. They only have large pickles that they quarter on the side, they wouldn’t put any on the sandwich. I prefer it on the sandwich. It’s next door to Diddy Riese, so if you see a line, it’s for cookies, not for the subs. So, don’t be detered and come to Socko’s.

Solid east coast style sub – the way it should be. I ordered number 11 «The Dom» which is Socko’s take on the traditional Italian Sub. The lettuce was sliced super thin and there was just enough dressing. The meats tasted legit – not precut. It’s about an 8″ sub for $ 5.80. It’s plenty for one person to eat. The service was amazingly fast – I had my sub in less time than it took me to go get my drink. In Westwood – where there is a Deli on every corner, I would easily pick Socko’s over the others next time.

Came once a long time ago and was unimpressed so I totally dismissed them. I’ve been a loyal Sandbags fan ever since. However, my colleagues got me to give Socko’s another try and I’m glad because it was a totally different experience. I had the Big Daddy BLT($ 4.75) and loved the bread! For some reason, it reminds me of the flavor of Cheezits, which is a good thing in my book. :) Will definitely be back for their other subs, since they are so reasonably priced. Their Skinnies are only $ 3 something and Super Subs are $ 4 something! The only downside is that they can’t toast the bread for you and don’t have any hot subs. Of course I still love Sandbags and will always return for the Incredible Sandbags, but at half the price, Socko’s makes a very compelling argument. Need to get one of their stamp cards ASAP…

Great for a quick meal. The variety of sandwiches is pretty awesome, and they have a non-Californian feel which I appreciate. For some reason, the place makes me think more of the midwest or southwest. Maybe it’s the fact that every song they played was either from a playlist I’d made in high school or early college? You know, the popular indie stuff like Scissor Sisters, Spoon, etc. Also, fantastic selection of pungent chips to accompany your sandwich. I“m a big fan of the Dharma Bum, which has cucumber, hummus, and various other healthy ingredients in it.

Okay, I’m sorry, this place is great and I don’t have a good explanation. I get the Dharma Bum. It’s so simple that the first time I ate it, I wondered what I’d paid for. Literally just some lettuce and tomato and the usual nuts and bolts with some hummus and some nothing-special cheese on some nice chewy bread, for like $ 4. I didn’t get it. And, somehow, I thought of nothing but that sandwich for the next week. Next I got some turkey sandwich(service is super fast — we’re talking under a minute sometimes — so it’s not much of a commitment to stop for a quick bite) with some honey mustard and I remember thinking, this isn’t that great. Perfectly edible, but something about it doesn’t go together. And again, it took me DAYS to wrap my mind around ANYTHING but getting more of that sandwich. Is this a good review? I’m literally telling you that I don’t understand why I like it so much but I have a physiological reaction when I think of it. This looks like a review for drugs, doesn’t it. It’s not. Is it?

In residency, we had a Jimmy John’s on campus and that’s what I had for lunch nearly every day. In fellowship, I have far less time to grab lunch but when I do, I head to Socko’s. To me, it’s Westwood’s version of Jimmy John’s — fresh fragrant bread with average deli meats on the inside. The bread really makes the sandwich!!! There are so many options but I usually get #14 — turkey, avocado spread, sprouts, and other goodies. Makes me feel«healthy» even though I’m sure it isn’t. Service is also wicked fast. They are usually rushing you through the ordering process and before you’ve even finished paying, your sandwich is ready. Fresh, fast lunch… exactly what I’m looking for on a work day!

I told myself that I shouldn’t start another stamp card because I was graduating in a course of 3 weeks. But I’ve gotten 3 sandwiches from here since then, so I just did. Now it has two punches on it.

Sockos rocks! If you are in Westwood near UCLA and craving for a good sandwich. I recommend this place and order the roast beef and ham with lettuce and tomato. It’s not on their menu so better ask them to make this one specially for you. Delivery starts early which is a plus!

LOVE this place! This is my favorite sandwich place ever. The Don, BVO Special, TBS, the Sphinx, Jersey Joe, and the Big Daddy BLT are all awesome! The service is extremely speedy — I barely get the order out of my mouth and the sandwich is already made. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for extra sauce like honey mustard and bbq sauce on the sandwich or on the side. If the sandwich I’m getting doesn’t have onions, I also ask them to add some and they do it free of charge. I mostly do take-outs from here but there is inside and outside seating available. TRYTHISPLACE!

I only ever order the #14BVO at Sockos: turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, sprouts, and avocado spread. Simply delicious. But the reason I love Sockos most is that they deliver! It’ll cost you 50 cents(will you really lose sleep over pocket change?) and save you a trip when you want to remain a happy couch potato all day. Sockos supports the laziness of its community and I adore them for it.

Well, it’s official: I’ve become a Socko’s regular. I use the punch card, know the menu by heart, and remember that they don’t take Discover cards… This is embarrassing… But, let me just say, it’s completely worth it! Two words: LETTUCE. WRAP. They lettuce wrap their sandwiches. Amazing. The #14(The BVO) is absolutely fantastic. It’s actually the only sandwich I get. It’s THAT good. I literally come here at least twice a week and I’m still not sick of it. I definitely recommend this place. Plus, they’re super speedy at making their sandwiches and because the building itself is completely overshadowed by the wake of the diddy riese line, there’s basically no one in here(ever) which means no waiting in line. A definite plus.

#14, the BVO, is the only way to go This sammich restaurant is probably my favorite in all of westwood(of the 3 s’s, Sepi’s, sockos, and sandbags) Their bread is delicious, and the sandwiches are long(though skinny) which is perfect because it makes for the perfect bite! The BVO is filled with turkey, avocado, sprouts, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Add an order of jalepeno chips to that for delivery and I am a happy(but lazy) camper.(delivery is $.50 extra I believe, but they deliver to obscure places on campus, which makes it a great food place for long finals week study sessions in the library) You can also add a cookie to your delivery order from diddy riese for $ 1. So, if you’re lazy and want your sweet fix as well you can add that too.

Socko’s is my new go-to place when I am absolutely stuck with tons of work and must eat at my desk. It’s close, ordering is easy, and they make their sandwiches quickly. I have experimented a little, but my current favorite is the Kareem Abdul Jabeef(roast beef) and some chips to go. It comes with lettuce & tomato, which is perfectly fine with me, and there’s only 1 size so there are no difficult decisions. If there’s 1 thing I would change about this place, it’s that the cash register and ordering are in this very tight corner of the store that fills up extremely quickly. However, they do their best to get the line moving as fast as they can. Otherwise, a reliable lunch place that keeps my day moving!

There is no place in Westwood I visited more during my undergraduate time at UCLA than Socko’s sub. Why you ask? 1.) Fresh ingredients — Much better tasting than Subway 2.) Friendly staff — Penny and crew are the isht. 3.) Free Parking — The left side offers a couple parking spots that are perfect for a pick-up order and a quick trip to Diddy Riese. The Don and the Super Socko are staples of their menu along with a couple other sandwiches. The key to Socko’s is that you have to tinker around with the vegetable and condiments combinations to make your own awesome sub. I always ask for Edwin Style: easy mayo, all veggies, and green leaf lettuce(instead of shredded lettuce). This makes for a healthy, tummy-stuffing, easy-to-eat sandwich. Shredded lettuce always ends up all over the place when I eat it. green leaf(unsliced and yummier) for the win. Socko’s is very accommodating when it comes to large orders for non-profit organizations. We gave them a 24 hour notice for a 400-sub order and got free shipping(‘shipping sounds cooler than ‘delivery’). You can bet we stuffed our faces that night. Sure $ 5 will get you an uninspiring foot-long at subway, but paying $ 6 for a high-quality meal that will stuff your belly(make sure you ask for the extra veggies) is well worth it. I’ve never left subway thinking, «man, I can’t wait to come back here. the service here is great.» Man, I can’t wait to go back to Socko’s.

I can’t help but love this place. It isn’t fancy. It’s plain and simple place. Fast service. Every time I’m in the mood for a sandwich, I come here. The best is The Don on their freshly made french bread. I can eat it as lettuce wrap too but it’s the bread. Costs a little more than Subways but the taste is worth it. The place is small with 3 or 4 tables, an eating counter and some tables outside. Their service is fast too. Usually you’ll get your sandwich before you finish signing your credit card receipt.

Ok so here’s the skinny on these subs. They have nice soft bread and the veggies are fresh. Everyone is also prety friendly when you go inside to order as well. That’s the plus side. So why only two stars? Well, for one, the meats are fairly lacking unless you get the«mean one», but it’s almost 9 bucks. The primary reason for the low rating is that we ordered some subs for delivery, and while they food did come fairly fast, the delivery guy walked off with the change, about 6 bucks without a second thought. Pretty dang good tip for a 14 dollar delivery. So the bottom line is, enjoy the subs, but make sure you don’t need to ask for change!
