I took my husband to Sullivan’s for a surprise 60th Birthday party. Stephanie, the person in charge of reservations, was so professional and went above and beyond getting our private room reserved. The wait staff were so attentive and very friendly, making my whole family feel right at home. My husband ordered the Ribeye steak and said it was the best he has had in this area for sure. Everything was excellent. I ordered the KC strip(cooked perfectly) and the Brussels sprouts were delicious. There were 19 of us and everyone had nothing but good to say about their meals. We will definitely be back! Thank you Sullivans for making my Husbands 60th Birthday an enjoyable event!

Very slow service. Potatoes tasted like cafeteria. Steak good to great. Dessert looked and tasted pre packaged.

Alright, I’ve been here a couple times and the last time… I really got to apologize to the waiter who probably had his cheapest check of his entire career from a table of 6. We originally went for the bar and the people I were with were all my younger brother and his friends… all of whom are just finishing up college. However, we would have had to move tables and the only open ones were next to the very loud live music… so we went to the restaurant. Hups. I ended up going for that really damn good $ 42 prix fixe menu with an upgraded 12oz Strip for an added $ 5. I mean, it comes with an appetizer, steak with potatoes and a dessert. Why would you not get that? The standard strip is $ 42. I mean… its not a matter of saving money, it’s just… that’s a damn good deal. Hilariously, two at my table decided on bread and alcohol only, my brother joined in the prix fixe and another only got a crab cake. Boy, did everyone love the bread(I am sitting here shaking my head in embarrassment for taking up the space). Hopefully we tipped well enough to make up for the accidental shenanigans… we’ll stick to the bar next time. Regardless, our waiter was a good dude, stayed positive and the somm gave me a really cool story on some wine they got that had been at the bottom of the ocean. That’s cool. The steak was decent, but being in KC I feel there are other places to get a better steak. I overall enjoyed the place, and you can’t really beat that deal for the caliber of steak. Definitely going back for a proper dinner next time.

Nick did an excellent job with service delivery. He was personable, knowledgeable of the menu, made good recommendations, and paced the experience well. I was impressed not only by the quality of the steak(I had 12 oz NY Strip), but that for Restaurant Week, you didn’t skimp on the size of the steak, I liked that a lot. The size of the sides, however, was a little small, both on the mashed potato and the broccoli. Loved the Caesar salad, the bread was wonderful — delicious and hot. Took issue with the Piper Sonoma Brut being warm. Even after a while in the chiller, it never did get cold. Not good to have it on your menu but not have it already chilled. Absolutely loved the Knockout martini! And crème brûlée was excellent as well, as was the coffee. Overall my wife and I both enjoyed the dining experience very much and will likely return at some point.

I had a 12 oz Filet Mignon steak, which I ordered medium rare. The waiter took the time to describe medium rare as being bright pink, but cooked throughout. First of all let me say I hadn’t had a steak in many years. I was VERY hungry and looking forward to a steak on my birthday. My second bite contained a large piece of gristle. I kept chewing and chewing, but I had to spit it out into my napkin otherwise I would have choked on it had I attempted to swallow it. This was to be the first of many gristly mouthfuls, which I spit into my napkin. The steak in addition to being tough and gristly was blood red and cold throughout. It was«cooked» rare rare not medium rare, which should have been bright pink(not red), but cooked throughout. This was literally just a bright red COLD piece of muscle. It had been slightly browned on the outside but was COLD and BRIGHTRED throughout. I don’t like an over cooked steak, but this was ridiculous. I was starving for a steak hoping it would get better, but the more I ate the blood red colder it was. I must have spit out at least a dozen or more large pieces of gristle I was unable to chew and swallow. This was THE worst steak I’ve ever had. Keep in mind this was a filet not a ribeye or strip steak. It was clearly a tall filet, which is supposed to be the best most tender piece of steak there is. I didn’t want to bum my three companions out or the waiter, Chris Sullivan, as everyone was having such a good time. I didn’t want to make everyone wait the 15 mins it would have likely taken to cook my blood red cold piece of gristly muscle again. I just wanted everyone to be happy. Given that Sullivan’s is a STEAK house I cannot recommend them. Everything else was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere was top notch. But as I said this was THE worse steak I’ve ever had in my 65 years on the planet!

I can’t rave enough about the happy hour that they have at Sullivan’s. Unfortunately I am so spoiled by the happy hour and the bar menu that I still can’t write a review about the restaurant itself! We started out with the tuna tacos; all I can say is AMAZING!!! They are perfectly prepared and served atop large tortilla chips. We then split a burger which was also above par. The drinks were nicely prepared and presented; nice wine pours too! There is live music/jazz in the bar which just adds to the perfect scenario for a great evening in the bar. I’d like to say we will visit the restaurant one day, but they make the bar such an appealing venue that I can’t promise anything!

I had the cowboy ribeye while my wife had the filet. We also had a caesar salad, fries and the creamed spinach. Fries are fries. The spinach was amazing. The ribeye was decent but I expected more flavor and had to add salt and pepper. The Sullivan branded wine was good enough for me. The server was great. The two managers that came by our table were great. Yes, it’s expensive as heck, but you don’t feel like you are getting ripped off. I’d have and will go back.

For being a steakhouse, their steak is awful! There was a group of us and no one’s steak came out as they asked — most of our steaks were too well-done and dry despite ordering them medium. Their mac & cheese and cheese cake was really good though. Service was mediocre at best. If you’re looking for an overall great experience and good steak, I’d definitely go elsewhere in KC.

Nice place to chill, and have a cigar! I was in need of a smoke, I found that Sullivan’s has cigars to choose from. I took them on that offer, I ordered appetizers and a couple of drinks. It was a great time, the food was tasty and the drinks were yummy. Overall if you’re in the neighborhood stop by and get a cigar and cocktail you’ll enjoy it.

I’ve been here twice now, once on Thanksgiving and another time on a regular day. In short, this place is just too pricey for the quality of food. The steak, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and bisque were all good. The turkey and spinach needed work. I think there are just too many other good steakhouses in the area too spend so much money here.

Maddie, our server, was very nice and did a good job. They have a really nice outdoor patio — plenty of ceiling heaters and couches as well as tables. Hubby found out that cigars are allowed outside on the last two rows of the patio, which he appreciated. We had the shrimp appetizer and the loaded potato tot during happy hour. Hubby tried the cocktail special and I had a Manhattan. The appetizers were good. We also split the bar burger which was a good deal during happy hour. It wasn’t my favorite burger and fries but it was solid. It’s a place worth returning to for the patio.

It’s a pretty good steak house, but whoever controls the salt needs to get knocked out every couple of minutes; because that guy is out of control. Delicious, but too salty. Very nice atmosphere, and the wait staff is excellent. I would try it again. Pricey, but they do give Sullivan golf tees out next to the mints, so…

Waiter was attentive but a little pushy on suggestions. As seasoned foodies, we didn’t really need too much direction. Ordered pineapple martini, which was delicious but a little overpriced. Wedge salad was amazing. 8 oz filet was cooked perfectly but arrived after a mixup with another table’s food. Dessert was black bottom peanut butter cake — knockout of flavor and texture. Overall good but seemed pretty pricy when you can get a similar meal at Bristol for less.

I was here Monday as a corporate sponsored buffet dinner. I was told they expected 400 people over a 2-hour time frame. They seemed to accommodate everyone in a timely fashion. The buffet line was long, but it moved. I was very surprised at how good the food was. Among the choices of meat there were sea scallops, not just beef and chicken, and they were delicious. The green beans appeared to be fresh and oven roasted. The mashed potatoes were perfect just like I would make at home with a little bit of the skin in there. No earth shattering desserts, just cookies, but they tasted homemade. A co-worker complained about his drink being expensive. I sat at a high top in the bar area, with the outer wall open to the patio. The atmosphere was upbeat. I did enjoy my food and the atmosphere, I’ll come back again to check out other menu items and I’m looking forward to it.

Average steakhouse that has an upbeat vibe. Good steaks, but not too much on the culinary side that sets it apart or above any of the other local steakhouses.

Went recently with some business folks nice private room. 3 of 10 meals came out wrong. either way under cooked or in one case completely wrong. A medium fillet came out as a well done piece of shoe leather that wasn’t even close to what was ordered. The service was margin. Not a 4 or 5 star. Don’t know if the problem was the waiter or the cooks but this was a sub par performance. The manager did his best to make up for it but the night was toast. Too bad. I came to KC expecting great steak. My bad.

I will say that I’ve been to Sullivan’s for business lunches on two prior occasions and the food was good(not great). My wife and I went to Sullivan’s last night for a postponed Valentine’s Day dinner. I wanted something that was a «step up» for our special dinner, and we wanted to try something new, so I picked Sullivan’s based on my business lunch experiences. We started with the Cheesesteak Eggrolls, which were very good. My wife had a Raspberry Peach Bellini, which she said was good as well. She ordered the bone-in Kansas City Strip while I decided to try the Dry Aged Long Bone Ribeye, both medium-rare. We had the Horseradish Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Three Cheese Mac for sides. Both of the steaks were cooked medium-rare. However, there was too much of a char on the outside for our liking. Also, neither steak was really tender, and both were full of gristle. Instead of slicing through a tender ribeye steak, each bite had to be sawed off. Each time, I hoped the next bite would be better, but it didn’t get any better. Since it was a 26 oz steak for $ 59, I expected much better quality. By no means did I eat the whole thing, and had them wrap the remainder to take home. My wife said her Kansas City Strip was also not tender, but not quite as full of gristle as my own. You might ask why we didn’t send them back and ask for new steaks. I loathe seeing steak go into the trash unless it is utterly inedible. It’s a shame for a steakhouse of this level to serve two steaks of this quality. I’ve had many steaks at Longhorn of much better quality and half the price. Either the pricing is due to self-inflated ego, or the chef picked two bad steaks. Either way, it’s not representative of the prestige that the atmosphere and pricing suggest. The Horseradish Garlic Mashed potatoes were overwhelmed with horseradish. I tasted no garlic. I expected a hint of both flavors, but only tasted the one flavor. The Three Cheese Mac was the best part of the meal, with the Cheesesteak Eggrolls coming in a very close second. The three managers came by early in our stay and were friendly. The staff made sure to keep our glasses full of water. And our waiter was friendly and prompt. I realize that there are many 4– and 5-star reviews for Sullivans. And if I reviewed my business lunches, they would have probably received 4 stars. But last night was a disappointment. At the end of our meal, we questioned whether it was worth anywhere near what they charged. Based on last night alone, I would say they fell far short of my expectations.

We had a nice dinner here! Everything was excellent! Let’s see, we went on a Sunday evening for my husband’s birthday and there were some people in there but not too much, it was our first time here. You walk in and the bar area is the first room you see, it’s nice and lit w/live music(I’d like to come chill in the bar area sometime). We walked in and got seated right away, got our drinks and decided on what to eat. :) I like strait forward and to the point. I picked from the $ 42 Prix Fixe Menu(it’s totally worth it) I started off with the Shanghai Calamari, it was really good, cooked perfectly light and crispy batter tossed in a sweet chili sauce. I got Oysters they were nice and plump and fresh. and a Wedge Salad to start with, It was really good surprisingly… it looked plain and big but it was good I finished it… and I probably could have been done eating now but then my steak came, It was cook perfectly med. on a bed a mashed potatoes. I also got the cream corn which I thought was good as well. My husband got a long bone ribeye and a baked potato, he said it was good and cooked perfectly except there was too much Char on it on other than that it was really good. We shared a warm chocolate cake for dessert and finished that too! We had a great experience and an awesome waiter. I think this place is expensive which we knew going into it. I wouldn’t say it’s on the Morton or 801 Chophouse level but it was good and a nice change up!

Great experience here! It would have been 5 stars except the 1 thing I’ll mention at the end of review My restaurant week dinner selection was: Iceberg Lettuce Wrap Vine Ripe Tomatoes, Crumbled Blue Cheese & Blue Cheese Dressing Hand Cut Filet Mignon 6 oz & Béarnaise sauce Bananas Foster Bread Pudding with caramel sauce & vanilla bean ice cream This is the ONLY place I will order an iceberg wedge because iceberg lettuce is just… well, iceberg lettuce. What prompts me to order it here is their blue cheese dressing. It is house made and excellent! Perfectly blended and flavorful, complimented by pieces of tomatoes. Iceberg lettuce never tasted so good. My filet was flavorful, cooked perfectly and the bernaise sauce sauce was spot on. The dessert was excellent too. While the bananas foster bread pudding was fab, the vanilla bean ice cream was not just a ho-hum topping. It was flavorful in it’s own right. My server, Jamarcus, was a pro. He stayed on top of the details and was attentive but not hovering. Another server(whose name I don’t know) also impressed me when he checked on me & we talked ‘steaks’ for awhile. He was quite knowledgeable and gave me a tip regarding a ribeye w/bone attached. So, the menu, food, presentation and service were five star. Then there was the head line cook. I refuse to refer to a selfish moron as ‘chef’. I assume he was in charge as he was instructing others. Their line/grilling area is open to the dining room. So, while normal conversations probably couldn’t be overheard, loud voices in a relatively empty dining room can be clearly heard. Every other word that came out of this guy’s mouth was«F***» this and«F***ing» that. I could hear the other guys working with him tell him that he was being overheard(they were sheepishly looking out at me) & encouraged him to be more quiet but he didn’t stop. Never even slowed him down. Quite insulting actually which is no doubt what he was hoping for. I mean when someone flat out tells you that you’re out of line & being insulting and you keep it up??? He either didn’t understand or care that his language was a reflection on the entire restaurant. Well, that says a lot. Too bad Sullivan’s keeps this guy on staff. I didn’t leave, but it really marred what would have been a great experience otherwise. I usually hit Sullivan’s a few times a year, but I was really turned off this time.

Great review for restaurant week lunch. I had the Caesar salad with the sliced steak that was all done for perfection. Great service, presentation and cooked perfect. I have to go back more often. Well done!
