I’ve been to numerous chophouses and 5 star steak restaurants in Las Vegas and Los Angeles but this place tops the list on the overall experience, service, extras and food make it one of the best experiences I’ve had, just so pleased I can’t wait to go back! My girlfriend and I were celebrating are anniversary and they were ready for us from the table décor, to the menu title of «Anniversary» titles on the menu, to the maître d’ coming by to offer taking out pics, to them bringing my lady a rose after dinner, just exceptional! And dinner, was outstanding from our filets, to the bread, to the mango strawberry cheesecake, but the star of the night was the lobster MacNcheese, I don’t even like macNcheese and couldn’t stop eating them! Another star was out waitress, Brooke, she made our night from making is feel pampered, not pressured, very informed and extremely helpful. She even told us about a groupon that saved us $ 40 and they comped us our dessert for our anniversary and took off the brussel sprouts Jair because I said they weren’t out favorite, just exceptional service and true customer service excellence! We can’t wait to go back and tell everyone about them!

Expensive, yes. Great steak and seafood, yes. That’s really all there is to say. You pay for what you get and we didn’t leave disappointed.

this is really hard for me because i have had a great time taking my wife here for our last 2 wedding anniversaries. the atmosphere is great, the service is outstanding, and the food taste great. So why the bad review? Because food(no matter how good going down) is not so tasty coming back up… Something wasn’t cooked correctly or wasn’t fresh. I ordered the same thing that i ordered last time, except i opted for the dry aged version of the steak, and a couple of scallops on the side. early in the morning i got woken up out of my sleep with some terrible pain and i won’t go into the rest of the details. All i could think of though was how i was so upset that the most expensive meal i had all year was making me sick because i NEVER get sick from food. I feel this was probably a kitchen problem but its sad for me.

Seriously the best experience I’ve had in a restaurant in a long time. Last night was my first time to try it out and it was amazing all around. Great drinks, great food, great service! You can tell these guys and gals take what they do seriously in every facet of the restaurant. Thank you!

Wow! Just WOW! We had the best experience last night at 801! I made reservations online last week and it was accidentally for the wrong date. Whoops! They texted me asking if I was still planning on joining them for the wrong day but I ask them to change the date and they were very nice and accommodating. We arrived about 10 minutes early to our reservation and our table was ready for us! It was decorated so beautifully! We also received custom menu’s that stated«Happy Birthday» for my husband and a «Congratulations» for myself. What a wonderful surprise and such a great personal touch! The ambiance of the restaurant is very old school luxury! There was also a big gold bull in the middle of the place. It wasn’t busy at all(We went on a Tuesday night at 8pm) so we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Everything was amazing from our server to our food to everything else! Our server was very attentive and checked on us at the most perfect times. We eat out quite a bit and I’d have to say this was the best food I’ve ever had at a restaurant! Our food arrived surprisingly quick!(no complaining from me, I was STARVING) We both started with a salad which was absolutely delicious! Next we both ordered the KC Strip Steak with the Mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes! I’m usually really picky when it comes to steak therefore I don’t eat it that often but oh my goodness! It was the best steak I’ve EVER had! I wanted to try the asparagus as well so my server offered to bring me a couple, which was on the house! To top it off the mango cheesecake was the icing on the cake. Our server explained everything was made from scratch, in house and you can really taste the difference. We usually go to Capital Grille as that used to be my favorite restaurant but I’d have to say, 801 has completely blown Capital Grille out of the water. This is now our new favorite place! Just an FYI — it is pretty pricey! Our total racked up to over $ 200 and that was without any alcohol! However, the food, service and ambiance speaks for itself and is undoubtedly worth every penny! We can’t wait to come back!

Wow, there are better for your $$$$$ I like the 801 in Omaha and downtown KC but I never remember them to be this pricey, I guess I should pay better attention next time We took 2 friends out and I said I would buy. I expected a $ 300 – 400 tab but almost choked when the check came and it was over $ 725 without tip Im not a cheap date but I was taken back a little at the cost, especially when I was not happy with the flavor of their«dry aged» steak that I would not recommend to anyone. We were fortunate to be there when they had fried Morel Mushrooms as an appetizer($ 60) and they were amazing. Should have stopped there LOL Anyway, my wife had a salad and the friends each had a filet and they were all good so would I come back? Maybe so but I am going to look around to see if I can’t find a better dry aged steak at a better value… Good Lord

We came to this location last weekend for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. We started with oysters, split a caesar salad, I had the filet with black truffle butter and he had the prime rib. We split a loaded baked potato and creamed spinach for sides. For dessert, we had a yummy piece of three layer chocolate cake. Our server was very helpful when it came to making decisions on dinner since there were great specials that night and was very amusing and careful while performing emergency surgery on our bottle of wine that the cork was trying to break into. Overall, I think 801 is a pretty quality place for steak in Kansas City. I think I’m a little partial to the fact that we get good meat and grill pretty great steak at home. But it really was a great dinner for a special occasion or if you just really like steak and want to drop a pretty penny!

This was my first time eating at 801 Chophouse but I hope to be able to update this review often. My husband and I went for a Valentine’s Day meal. We started with wine and pancetta wrapped scallops. The scallops were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the sour dough bread and butter that was brought to the table with our appetizers. For our main course, my husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the 8oz filet. Both were perfection! The filet was one of the best I’ve ever had… if not the best! Based on Unilocal reviews we asked for half orders of the sides(asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes) and it was more than enough. We decided to split a dessert since we were celebrating and got the chocolate cake with Bailey’s ice cream. The cake was our least favorite part — a little dry — but the ice cream was tasty. It’s expensive so I won’t be able to come back nearly as often as I’d like. I am already looking forward to my next visit!

So, the rating slipped a bit this year. Once again, we chose 801 Chophouse for our New Year’s Eve dinner. However, things weren’t up to our expectations. I made the reservation several months in advance and asked for a booth in the bar area where we could look out large windows at a scenic view. When we arrived, at least 5 of the 6 booth tables were occupied with people who were just ordering or just received their food. Instead of waiting for those people to vacate a table, we opted for a booth in the main dining area with a less than spectacular view. I would have thought management would have been able to plan a little better and give preference to the people who requested a particular table or inform me ahead of time that the tables had all been spoken for. Our server, Kristen, informed us that Jade had the evening off, so she would be helping us. Kristen did a great job. She was helpful, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Top notch! We ordered the crab cake for appetizer, and it was delicious as usual. They topped it this year with an apple coleslaw. I’m not a fan of apples in general, so I was hesitant to try it, but I did. I was quite pleased with it. The initial flavor was of regular coleslaw. However, after a few moments, a hint of apple flavor came through. I thought it was a good combination with the crab cake. For our entrée, we both ordered the bone-in filet mignon cooked medium rare. We don’t get any sort of topping other than their basic salt and pepper seasoning because we love the flavor of steak as they are. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were melt-in-your-mouth tender. The flavor was exceptional. Ten out of ten stars! The sides, however, were lacking. The garlic potatoes gnocchi were quite bland. They were advertised as being prepared with garlic butter and topped with parmesan cheese. However, the gnocchi themselves were flavorless and some even had the texture and flavor of flour balls or raw dumplings. I had to add salt and pepper to them to give some sort of taste. We also had an order of the green beans. They were advertised as having sauteed onions and bacon chunks, which they did. However, the dish seemed to be over 50% onions and lacking in the green beans. In years past, they have been mostly beans with a few onions for flavoring. This year, the chef went overboard with the onions. So, overall the evening was great. The steaks, crab cake, and Kristen’s attentiveness more than made up for the sub-par sides and failure to seat us where we requested. We’ll definitely be back, though.

Great food! Service was spectacular. We had the pleasure of being served by Lauren. Absolutely top notch. She knew the menu well and made excellent recommendations on wine and drinks. Strip, filet and ribeye were perfect.

Great atmosphere. Birthday dinner. One of the best, well prepared steaks in the city. Check was $ 124 for two, so bring money. They gave me a birthday cheesecake that changed my life. The filet is flawless, at medium rare. And the orange pecan Brussels sprouts were good. Should have been cooked more, as to render them softer; albeit, the steak, the free sourdough, and the cheesecake made the evening. And our terribly tall and beautiful waitress was a delight. Will go back as soon as I make some more steak money. You should try it.

My first time in KC. I was here on business. I’m pretty discerning and I will say that the meal was superb. I’m not a meat eater, so I was a little hesitant about 801 when I learned that’s where we were having dinner. Boy, was I wrong! I had the sea bass that was amazing. But, the real stars were the sides. The scalloped potatoes, spinach, and onion rings were amazing! Although, I was completely full, I couldn’t pass up on dessert. You can’t go wrong with the cheesecake)). The whole evening was made even better with the warm and attentive service by Brooke. Thanks Brooke!

One of my favorite steak restaurants. My go-to special spot for anniversary dinners. Love the green beans! The calamari is amazing too — not rings — tenders! So good. Really everything is delicious and my hubby and I split each item including the steak and they are very nice about it — no upcharge, split it in the kitchen.

Dinner was awesome! They have a fried lobster appetizer that reminds you of the way they prepare and serve popcorn shrimp. It is scrumptious and filling. We ordered the prime rib(to share), broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes. Macaroni and cheese(Gruyère and Parmesan) and warm sourdough bread that came out of the oven. Omg! The food was toolicious! The sides are large enough to share(family style) and you can request a half order and it feeds up to four. I recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for an elegant restaurant for fine dining.

I’m just leaving and I’m so full I feel like I need to be wheeled out! I had the 8oz filet and it was perfect. It’s so hard these days to get a steak cooked exactly how you ask for it and that is exactly what I got! We started out with the pancetta scallops that were soo good. Husband got the strip steak that was equally as good and cooked to perfection. We ordered pan roasted mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes as sides, mushrooms were amazing and potatoes were ok. We barely ate them because we were so full. They decorated table for our anniversary and threw in a free dessert. Our waiter was attentive and great as well. Great restaurant for special occasions.

Where to begin! As part of the Mother’s Day weekend we went to 801 Chophouse in Leawood. I have been to steakhouses throughout the world and 801 Chophouse is in the top five of all time. Although it makes #2 in the KC area for me, it was a perfect evening and the food, wine, atmosphere and waitstaff were tremendous. We were seated by the maître d’ and we we commenting about the beautiful wine cellar at the entrance of the restaurant; he mentioned he was a master sommelier, and even better yet our waiter was also a sommelier! The wine list is vast and wonderful. The only downsize is the prices on wine seem even pricier than other high end restaurants with a similar list. The highlight aside from the food was our waiter Christo — he was knowledgeable, friendly and truly the epitome of a professional; he as integral to our dining experience — truly one of the best servers we have had in 20 years. He is an old school restaurant professional all should strive to emulate. The music was a combination of 30’s — 40’s music — the perfect ambiance. We had steak tartar and seared Ahi tuna appetizers. The steak tartar had capers and some light seasoning mixed in, grilled breads, pickled red onions and stone ground mustard made for a very impressive start. The chef also sent out an amuse-bouche of tuna tartar that was fantastic. Skipped salads as to focus on the meal. My wife had the 8oz filet that was so amazingly tender yet was flavorful. It was simply perfect. There was an option for a bone in flilet which really you do not see often, but it was a full 16 oz and she decided to pass.(One came out it it looked out of this world!) She also had the roasted Brussels sprouts which were frankly«meh». A seasonal special was local morel mushrooms which were tremendous! I had the Shellfish Pan Roast which included Scallops, Shrimp Crab legs and ½ lobster in a butter-white wine sauce, simple mouth watering. The only misstep were the shrimp were a bit overdone; everything else — perfect. We also had hash-browns which were very good, Christo ensured we knew the portions size of the sides, and ensured we ordered full or half orders accordingly. Small details such as that are so important. As we were nearing the end of dinner, Christo stated that of we were thinking of dessert there were some souffles on the menu and they would take 18 minutes if we would be thinking of dessert; we were not buy again love that attention to detail Once we were done, we sat and enjoyed after dinner drinks; the culmination of the evening came with my wife getting a tour of the Wine Cellar and a personal explanation of some of the wines in the cellar. Our anniversary is coming up next week and although we do not normally«back to back’ restaurants, we will be going back to 801 Chophouse. It is a fantastic over all experience.

I don’t live in KC but was meeting 2 people who do. They had not eaten here but heard it was good. Well, it was great and they will return. We dined here on a Friday night and were served by Nick and Jade. They were friendly, fun, and extremely knowledgable of the wines and the menu. My guests had several«special requests» and all of them were met with«no problem». The salads were crisp and fresh, the entries were grilled perfectly, the sides were huge and delicious, and the dessert was to die for. If this were located at home(on St. Simons Island) I would eat there twice a week.

Had a work dinner here last night. Private room in the back, watched the Royals get slaughtered in Game 1 of the World Series, and talked some business with a new customer. Overall, top notch experience from the food to the service. First, there was a mixup on our part, and someone from our company screwed up, and made the reservation for 801 Fish. So Chophouse scrambled and set up a room for us, and a set menu for our customers to choose from. That’s pretty great service. The food was impeccable. I had chicken, most others had the filet, but everyone loved their dish. And they bright our grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes family style for is all to share. Well done Chophouse… would definitely bring customers back again.

My friend and I came here around 7:30pm on a Friday. We originally made reservations for four people but two canceled so it was just the two of us. There weren’t a lot of people here but maybe because not a lot of people wanted to spend $ 40+ on steak or for some other reason. I looked at their menu online before I came here so I had an idea of what to order. Luckily, the menu was the same in the restaurant. My friend and I usually go all out when it came to eating at restaurants. Our waitress was really nice and helpful. She showed us a tray of all the different cuts of meat and I thought she was pretty knowledgeable. The sides were also family-style so usually one item from the potatoes and one item from the vegetables section of the menu would be enough to share for two. We were able to do half of a side so we could get more sides to try. We ordered«Down Home» Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp($ 18) and Steak Tartare($ 18) for the appetizers, Gnocchi($ 12), Macaroni and Cheese($ 10), Roasted Brussels Sprouts($ 10), and Mushroom Pan Roast($ 11) for the sides. I chose the 24 oz. Bone-In Delmonico with Cajun seasoning($ 62) and Cognac Butter — Portabella Mushroom Ragout($ 4) for the preparation. My friend ordered the Kansas City Strip and Bearnaise($ 4) for the preparation. The bread and butter was nothing special in my opinion. The«Down Home» Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp was good and the sauce complemented it great. The mashed potatoes in the middle also was great with everything. The Steak Tartare was good with everything on the plate. The Gnocchi was soft and delicious, the Macaroni and Cheese was creamy, the Roasted Brussels Sprouts were not burnt, and the Mushroom Pan Roast was great. The Mushroom Pan Roast was one of the popular items and it showed in its flavor in my opinion. My 24 oz. Bone-In Delmonico steak with Cajun seasoning, cognac butter — portabella mushroom ragout was very tasty. It had a lot of flavor by itself and I was glad I chose it. We couldn’t finish everything since it was a lot of food, but I would say good leftover food. On the dessert menu, we decided on Key Lime Pie($ 12) and Grand Marnier Soufflé($ 12). The Grand Marnier Soufflé took about 35 minutes to prepare. The Key Lime Pie was good with the pina colata sorbet and not too sweet. The Grand Marnier Soufflé came with vanilla, chocolate, and raspberry sauces to pour into the soufflé. The sauces were extremely sweet(especially the chocolate and raspberry) and the vanilla didn’t taste like vanilla to me. I preferred the Key Lime Pie over the Grand Marnier Soufflé. 801 Chophouse was a great place for a steak dinner and the food was worth the price in my opinion. Sure, it would be pricey for a lot of people but you have to treat yourself out sometimes.

Ok, so 801 Chophouse was phenomenal, hence the timely review! Yay!!! My boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner Sunday evening to celebrate our 2 year anniversary(and there was a awesome Groupon available!) Since it was early Sunday evening that we had our reservations for dinner(6:30pm) the restaurant was fairly empty and we were seated quickly. Our server, Paul, was phenomenal and took very good care of us throughout the night. He made sure to explain the meat cuts, what our options were, and really engaged. We decided on drinks(Stone IPA for him and Park Place Martini for me) then decided to investigate the menu extensively — with comments/suggestions from our server. Finally after much debate and negotiation, we settled on the KC strip for him and the Shellfish Pan Roast for me with Lobster Mac and Cheese and Fried Zucchini to share. Holy crap the food was amazing! His steak came out perfectly cooked and was soo yummy for him that I didn’t even get a taste! I enjoyed myself immensely with my shellfish — crab legs, shrimp, lobster and the most amazing scallops. Once we finished our meal(O.M.G.) we deiced on dessert. Of course, my boyfriend ordered the New York Cheesecake — it’s his standard dessert choice. I had to order the Grand Mariner Soufflé. Since the soufflé’s are made to order there was going to be a 20 minute wait for desserts, so Paul gave us coffee the house. I guess when they show the meat tray they usually advise guests to order to soufflé early but as we choose to forgo the display he forgot to mention it. Granted, once we got our desserts we completely forgot how long it took — they were amazing. In fact, I dreamed about that Soufflé that night after dinner. Overall, this was such an amazing experience that I’d be willing to come back just for the dessert… or the sides… or dinner. I also recommend asking if Paul is working and if you can be seated in his section!
