One of the worst bars in Lancaster. Maybe the worst.

We went for the first time tonight. I was a little concerned that there was almost nobody here. However, we were seated promptly and received good service. My wife ordered potato pancakes, and she enjoyed them. I tried a few bites. Nice and crispy on the outside, and flavorful. I ordered a reuben. The meat and cheese were very good but it was skimpy on the saurkraut and instead of using Russian or thousand island dressing, it tasted like they added maple syrup, or some other syrupy concoction. I didn’t like this overly sweet addition. It would have been great with Russian dressing instead. And a bit more kraut. But I wouldn’t order this again here. We’ll probably try them again, I would like to give them another shot.

A birthday dinner that was awful. Ordered a pot roast dinner, when served the meat smelled awful, totally a bad piece of roast, the server took it back and the birthday boy ordered a turkey sandwich, I guess it was just«ok» the french onion soup… whoa. it was like opening a salt shaker and pouring in your mouth, the server even said«I told the cook the soup is too salty» overall a very disappointed birthday dinner, we will not be eating at this restaurant ever again

I came here for lunch after passing it for 3 years. I was the only person the and chatted with the bartender which I waited for a Sweet Chilli chicken wrap, which was pretty darn good. This place has a lot of character and I can see why people would want to stop by for a quick bite or a drink. in

Just a 6 minute drive away from my Grandma’s house is this place, Smack Dab in the middle of the Village of Lancaster. The reason I came here was cuz of the Beer Cheese Soup that I had at the Taste of Buffalo last year. We walked in and we noticed that there was shamrock wallpaper everywhere, we were sat down and our waitress instantly recognized me(She worked the Taste of Buffalo and I showed her my list of what I was going to eat and she was amazed at what I did). Well for my appetizer I got a bowl of their Beer Cheese Soup(Smooth, Velvety, Creamy, something to enjoy on a cold wintery night) Rick got a cup of French Onion Soup and Grandma got a Salad with Italian Dressing. For our Entrees Grandma got the Beef on Weck with Au Jus, I got the Shepherd’s Pie(It was terrible one of the worst dishes I’ve eaten in a while, it looked and tasted nothing like a Shepherd’s Pie) a Shepherd’s Pie is supposed to be topped with Mashed Potatoes, instead it was topped with Cheddar Cheese and when I stuck my fork in it I was disappointed it was nothing but bland chunks of Lamb as well as undercooked chunks of Carrots, Onions(that was the worst part) I was really unhappy. My Uncle got the Bangers & Mash(Traditional British Dish of Sausages and Mashed Potatoes and it was topped with crispy fried shallots. It looked so much better than what I ordered(I tried some of it and it tasted like Breakfast sausage you get at a Brunch Buffet. Presentation impressed me on that dish but it lacked in taste). Service was Good and the only thing that I enjoyed out of this was the Beer Cheese Soup, Other than that I don’t think I’ll come back for anything else. I’ll think about it

The words«dive bar» would explain this establishment, located in the village of Lancaster, quite well. We stopped in briefly after the Lancaster fireworks on the 4th of July. We really just wanted to wait for the traffic to die down, on the walk back to our vehicles. Its evident this place needs to be majorly re-decorated; it was like strolling into the 90’s. The ugly green carpet stood out the most — yuck! I gathered quickly that this was a watering hole for the locals, who were clearly scattered about. The beer selection was better than I expected. The bartender was a little cocky and aloof. We tried the chicken wings and they were okay; nothing spectacular. I would never go out of my way to come back here, or come here to dine, but if I happened to be strolling by randomly again, I wouldn’t hesitate to grab a beer.

My friends and I had just left the Lancaster theater, across the street after a performance. It was nearly 5:00PM, so we stopped for dinner. I should have known something was wrong, when the restaurant was completely empty. I would have thought it would be packed with theater goers. I guess they knew what I didn’t. Worst waitress ever! She dropped a tray with a glass of ice water on my friend. My friend had broken glass and water every where including inside her purse. Waitress did not not even help clean it all up. She made inappropriate remarks, including how hot she thought Native Americans are. She couldn’t get our orders straight, and when the food arrived(after a loooong wait), mine was wrong. My steak, which I ordered medium rare, was medium well. I ordered mashed potatoes, I got baked. The manager came over to apologize for her, and she was watching the whole time, and knew he was talking about her. After he left, she made remarks about her manager along the lines of «they will never find the body». When the bills came, she said that she had been interrupted while entering our checks, so they were kind of mixed up, but all the items were on the bills some where. We had 4 bills for 5 people. One of my friends had 2 other people’s drink orders. Another friend had my tea. No one had a bill for my steak. I asked the waitress about this, so she went back to the register for a new bill. When I got it, it was for pot roast(I had steak) and tea again! At that point, I was just wanting to leave, so I just paid it. I will never go there again! There was more, but I can’t keep going on forever. Don’t go there!

Ended up here for dinner on New Year’s Eve. It was super quiet. This would be a great venue for a NYE dinner if they wanted to make it an event like the 99 Brick Oven did(over there it was reservations only, and it was hoppin’). Having been here twice I guess I can say that the food is variable. Some things are really amazing and others are mediocre. Duchess of Ireland beer and cheese soup: I expected something thicker. This was a thin cream soup with buttery little rings floating on top. Very flavourful and warming. Horseradish crusted salmon with mustard sauce: says it’s a spicy dish for a spicy dish, but I could barely taste the horseradish or the mustard. Sadface. Scallops Mornay: not bad, scallops were a little soggy, but plentiful and tasty in lots of butter and cheese. Note that the side vegetable with dinner entrees is a little pile of what seems to be frozen California mix(carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower). Come on guys, fresh veggies aren’t that difficult and are way more worth paying for in a restaurant. Dublin potatoes: this seems to be their signature potato side, and it’s amazing. It’s a sort of hashed-up fried potato with onions, cheese, and sour cream. If you don’t want fries but are not a baked potato fan, go for this. Matter of fact, even if you do want fries, go for this, because it’s just as satisfying. Apple pie: looks like it maybe came out of a box rather than being home baked. Irish crème cake: wow. One of the most unique desserts I’ve ever had in this kind of restaurant. Cheesecake/mousse stuff sandwiched between two layers of white cake, with what seemed like a whole ounce of Bailey’s drizzled over it. I think the lesson is, go with anything on the menu that says«Irish» or similar, and avoid the things that do not look like pub food. They could do a whole lot better very easily with the things they aren’t good at yet.

At a much belated return to Eddie Ryan’s on a Wednesday evening(5:00PM) for dinner, I was astonished at the lack of customers — only another table of four were dining. The sign in the foyer said«Seat Yourself» which we did and were greeted by a gentleman I recognized to be the owner. After placing our dinner orders, he returned much to my dismay to inform that they didn’t have the Shepard’s Pie, which was why we decided to go there in the first place. After re-ordering, I noticed that the owner was doing the triple duty of hostess, server, and bartender(two customers at the bar). He wasn’t a happy camper and we couldn’t wait to get out of there(we were now the only occupied table). Sadly, after other so-so visits, I’m done with Eddie Ryans. I’ll travel an equal distance to Williamsville and the Irishman establishment to satisfy my Irish food cravings.
